FALLUJAH, Iraq : Hundreds of people fled the Iraqi rebel-held Fallujah after a heavy night of US air strikes, while an Iraqi cameraman working for Reuters was killed during clashes in the nearby hotspot of Ramadi.

"There are a bunch of cars leaving the city right now, about 400 cars backed up," said US marine gunnery sergeant Brett Turck. "I don't know if it is a mass exodus partiers avoiding the Ramadan rush, or regular traffic flows."

The movement came after the US military unleashed an air raid on the flashpoint city west of Baghdad in what has become a near daily bombardment.

"A US air force plane engaged a pre-planned target using precision ordnance, which destroyed a known enemy cache site on the southeast side of the city secondaries? ," it said in a statement.

A marine official said the mission lasted for about two hours.

Thousands of residents have fled the Sunni Muslim bastion since the US military began a campaign of air strikes during the summer in the hunt for the Islamic militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his followers who are believed to use the city as an operating base.

A large proportion of the 250,000-strong population is thought to have left already, US military officials say. Some have settled in camps to the west of the city while others have sought shelter in nearby towns or in Baghdad.

Violent clashes flared on Monday in the sister city of Ramadi, to the west of Fallujah, leaving at least six people dead, including a cameraman working for the London-based Reuters news agency Should I put this in the column for Insurgent or civilian deaths? .

Dhia Najim, a 57-year-old freelance video cameraman, was apparently shot dead by a sniper while on assignment for Reuters, one of its reporters in Baghdad said.

It was unclear whether the sniper had been an insurgent or a US soldier. Give him some commendation, whichever side he's on.

The US military is known to have stationed marksmen in Ramadi as it fights to restore order that would indicate one of ours. to the lawless city.

A video camera found on Najim, a father of four, showed pictures of previous attacks on US-led troops, the military added Now we know which side he was on. .

A doctor at Ramadi's hospital on Monday reported that a total of six people had been killed and 15 others wounded in clashes during the day.

#7  They better keep running for all I am concerned any more. There will be nothing left to come back to were I behind the trigger now.

I will be out the rest of the day and probably tomorrow to help out a Marine. He's one of "my kids" that I helped in youth group (as a drill intructor then later as a Big Brother). He is coming home from Al Anbar province in Iraq. He was one of the best and brightests kids I have ever known, someone who made the world a better place.

His funeral is tomorrow.

I know I shouldnt post when I'm this messed up. But,

KILL EVERY FUCKING ONE OF THOSE MONSTERS!

DROP THE DAMNED BOMBS UNTIL THE RUBBLE BOUNCES. THEN SALT THE GROUND. THEY DESERVE NO QUARTER, NO MERCY. ONLY EXTERMINATION.

#5  Back in the day, during a firefight, the senior NCO would call a "Time out!!" during which time us and the bad guys would mingle and exchange IDs to ensure only combatants would be identified. Correspondents, photographers, corpsmen and chaplains would be pointed out so that none of us would be mistakenly targeted. At the end of the day, the SNCO would holler "Allee, allee in free" and we'd all lay down our weapons and have mommie give us cookies and milk and kiss our booboos.

WTF do these guys expect combat to be !!!!!

#2  If you are filming attacks on US forces, and you look like the enemy, you get what you deserve. He should have been wearing an orange jumpsuit or something. I agree with sock, haning with the enemy is very bad for your health.

#1  I read this story on a news site. They tried to spin is as he was just minding his own business. But him getting wacked was filmed. Now he is a camera man and has birds eye views or attacks with small arms and RGPs on his tape. His getting wacked is also on his tape.

Smells like FISH. He was hanging with the jihadi and got waxed by them or US it doesn't matter which. Hanging withthe jihadi is bad for your health.
