Nine more terrorists killed as operation Days of Penitence continues
2004-10-03
Nine Palestinian terrorists have been killed in today's fighting in Gaza, bringing the total number of terrorists killed to 55 since the IDF launched operation Days of Penitence. Four of the terrorists were killed just inside the Israelis side of the border with Gaza. They were en route to attack Kibbutz Nahal Oz; an established (founded early fifties) kibbutz located a few hundred meters from the border. Since the operation began, Israeli forces have killed 55 terrorists. These include gunmen, Kassam squads preparing launches and units planting mines and roadside explosive charges. Kassam activity has been reduced, over the past three days only 5 rockets have been launched.

#7  Sorry, I was looking at another source (about the egyptian New Kingdom) and that mentioned Syria - I guess I didn't read it closely enough ;)

Nope I didn't - it was Thothmes III who fought the Kings of Palestine and Syria at Meggido. (learn something new every day on Rantburg!)

I thought the ultimate Israeli operation is the Samson option? I agree though, that an operation called Armageddon would be bad enough.

#5  I have a feeling Israel has the name Armageddon tagged onto some future operation they'd rather they never had to put into action.

We used Operation Gomorrah for RAF air raids of Hamburg in '43, which at the time were the biggest ever undertaken. Don't know what happened to Soddom...

PS Tony, Miggido's actually in Israel.

#4  I like Operation Vengeance is Ours. Or Operation Our God is mightier than Yours. That'll get 'em going.

#3  Those buggers must be reeling at the moment.

Armageddon is also a good name for an operation, and it's uniquely middle eastern, being named after a town in Syria called Meggido.

#2  The Arab controlled areas of the Gaza Strip is a shmutzik place infested with creeping, slithering terrorists. Operation Clean Up 100%

#1  Love these Israel Defense Forces operational names. Operation Days of Penitence. How about Operation Old Testament? Operation Atonement? Operation Kill the Shlemazels?

Personally, I like Operation Whup Ass. Oh, well what's in a name, the outcome was good.
