Kerry takes legal action against Vietnam critics
2004-08-20
This is going to get good! Bring lots of popcorn....
Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry's campaign formally alleged that a group attacking his Vietnam war record had illegal ties to US President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s reelection bid.
Evidence? What Evidence? You want me to produce Evidence? Do you KNOW WHO I AM?
In a statement released to reporters, Kerry's campaign announced it had "filed a legal complaint against Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) before the Federal Election Commission (news - web sites) (FEC) for violating the law with inaccurate ads that are illegally coordinated with the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign."
Any way we can get a look at the complaint? I would like to see the evidence they claim....
The move by the Kerry campaign came shortly after the Swift Boat group released a second ad attacking the Democratic presidential candidate, who was wounded three times while serving on a Swift Boat in Vietnam and decorated twice for valor. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth have accused Kerry of lying about one of the wounds he suffered and of embellishing his acts of heroism during his four months in Vietnam, charges strongly rejected by the senator from Massachusetts. Kerry on Thursday accused the Bush administration of using the Swift Boat veterans as a front group to do the "dirty work" of attacking his Vietnam War record. The New York Times on Friday reported that there is a "web of connections"
What the hell is that?
between the Swift Boat group and the "Bush family, high-profile Texas political figures and President Bush (news - web sites)'s chief political aide, Karl Rove."
They live on the SAME PLANET! There must be a connection. Its different with Soros and Moore [with Moveon.org and Fart-911] since they don't live in this (or any known) reality.....

#24  His ego was gigantic
Quite as large as the Titantic
And like that famed vessel
He felt so very special
And til the very end . . . ?

#22  The Republicans are getting mad and the Dem's are getting embarrassed. I noticed that my normally verbose Dem friends are mum on Kerry. They talk about what they don't like about Bush, and about issues that the Evil-Right-Wing-Republican-Cabal just doesn't care about...but they don't talk about Kerry.

#21  Michael Moore gets a fucking award. The vets get pissed on. Unmitigated bullshit.

#20  I know one thing for sure: The Republicans where I work are getting pissed at the lack of fair treatment.

This "Attack the Veterans" instead of "Investigate the Claims" is hitting home. Republicans are getting pissed off enough at the blatant unfairness of the press (investigate the crap out of bush and give Kerry a free pass) to get active. I've gotten calls from several people forming campaign support groups, getting ready to work the phones and door-to-door for Bush now.

Kerry, you and your liberal press buddies keep attacking instead of answering the questions, you'll motivate the Republicans to turn out, work hard and drive up their votes like nobody since Billary.

#19  B, and instead the Dimocrats should have.....

They were never going to win this election. They know that. That's why they ran sacrificial lambs. They never have to listen to Kerry again, just like Mondale or Gore. And maybe Edwards has a future. Give him exposure and find out.

Bush has to lose it for a Demcrat to get in. And if Bush is dumb enough to lose it, it doesn't matter who the Democrats nominated.

#18  This is nothing less than a naked attempt to impose a censorship regime through legal maneuvering and the application of outrageously obvious hypocrisy in standards.
As such it represents a coup d'etat by big media and the rest of the power-freak lobby; the activist legal industry, academic authoritarians, and their legions of dupes, shills, and allies. It is the final power-grab by these loathesome elements that has building for 40 years.
Any government elected under such unconstitutional restrictions on free speech is illegitimate on its face and is not entitled to the Constitutional exercise of authority. Any attempt by such a government to exercise such authority may lawfully and morally be resisted by force.
This is it, guys.
Molon Labe, lawyer-media devils!

#17  This is strange! It's not like they didn't know the Swift Vets were out there, and yet they made his Vet service the central part of his campaign.

Now ...if they any brains at all, they'd be aware that e-larson is spot on about this calling attention to Edwards least likeable quality - that he's a trail lawyer! It's just plain stoooopid.

These guys smoked way too much dope in the 60's. They've really lost touch with reality.

#16  Here's hoping that the FEC *is* too slow to "do a damn thing" about either MoveOn's ads or Swift Vet for Truth ...

Official Mascot of the Democrat Party & The Official Pose

Posted by: BigEd   2004-08-20 7:47:46 PM

#13  If she is, she's a fool. Kerry is taking the Democrat propaganda organ, otherwise known as the Main Stream Media, and flushing its credibility down a toilet. By the time this is over, blogs will be given notariety in Peoria and people will recognize they have an alternative that presents the truth. The only thing worse for the Democrats would be a major increase in homeschoolers to over 10% of the school age population.

#11  Launching a lawsuit is gasoline on the fire. It can't help but excite the Republican base (as well as people who are not necessarily Republican partisans but that have had it up to HERE with frivolous lawsuits), and it will guarantee that Unfit for Command is the talk of all the Sunday shows.

#10  Kerry never scream foul when $62 million went into 527 groups that bashed Bush for last eight months. I guess they have a flexible concept of the first amendement.

#9  This is the crowd that's always screaming about Freedom of Speech, too and how important "dissent" and "opposition" in the political arena is supposed to be!
We have to listen to them pee on our shoes and tell us it's raining 24/7 and say "Thank you, sir. May I have another?"
This lawsuit better go nowhere or I will be even more PISSED than I am right now!
sKerry is lawyer scum and so's his boyfriend Edwards!

#8  .com: time to bring back The Official Seal of the Demcocratic Party of the United States. But even more than displaying intellectual maturity of spoiled brats, it shows a very frightening readiness to use any and all means to silence all opposition regardless of what is contained in the Constitution, and is exactly the kind of thing that will turn an undecided voter against them.

It SHOULD be public record. Somehow, though, I doubt it is.
