Turncoat Brock Now Supports Censorship and One-Party State in US

MMFA sends letter to Wal-Mart, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble asking these top booksellers to review policies on selling Unfit for Command

Dear CEO:

In light of an August 19 report in The Washington Post (titled "Records Counter a Critic of Kerry") proving that a key allegation in the new book Unfit for Command by John E. O'Neill and Jerome R. Corsi is fraudulent, I'm writing to express my concern that by continuing to sell Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry as a work of nonfiction, prominent book retailers are complicit in a literary hoax.
Not to mention a threat to Kerry's electoral prospects
The Post reported on August 19 that "[n]ewly obtained military records of one of Sen. John F. Kerry's most vocal critics, who has accused the Democratic presidential candidate of lying about his wartime record to win medals, contradict his own version of events." This is but the latest in a long line of evidence that Unfit for Command is a fraud, with no basis in reality and no attempt to convey the truth. Slate.com editor Jacob Weisberg has described the book as a "scurrilous book accusing Kerry of being a war criminal and faking his injuries in Vietnam"; it's important to keep in mind that official military records (as well as the statements of all but one of Kerry's crewmates) flatly contradict the lies in Unfit for Command.

Which? Who? Apparently Kerry's bronze star and Bronze Stars awarded others are based in part or Kerry's narrative, according to the unnamed slandered fellow soldier (Mr Thurlow)

With the revelations of August 19, it's clear that Unfit for Command is the Hitler Diaries of the current political season -- a complete fraud. As you know, and as Salon.com reported on August 19, "[T]here is a long-standing tradition by reputable publishers of withdrawing titles that prove to be hoaxes or frauds." I would hope that in the case of Unfit for Command, Regnery, the book's publisher, would do the right thing and withdraw it from publication. However, given Regnery's history as an irresponsible publisher, I have no expectation, nor should you, that it will act responsibly with respect to this deeply flawed book.
Hitler Diaries? Like the moveon.org ad comparing Pres Bush to Hitler?

#17  Bear in mind that liberals are simply neofascists. It is hardly astounding that they are reacting this way. Accuracy In Academia has long documented the political bias and censorship of liberals against conservatives on the university campuses. Check out the website of Accuracy In Academia, and you are treated to the following interesting treatises that the MSM would just like to keep hushed up:
• Racism is Not the Problem: Why Martin Luther King Got it Half Right
• Whither the Old Conservatism?
• Conservative University: An Education Civilization Cannot Do Without
• Campus Report 2000: Perversion & Censorship
• The Origins of Political Correctness

#16  Ah, the smell of liberal pig roasting on a hot summer night. Honey, grab the fork, we'll poke it and see if its done yet.

#15  I can't wait until payday so I can get my copy! Assuming it hasn't banned and burned by the under-fuher. Doesn't he realize that he just sold another 500k copies by calling for it to be banned? It's like when they try to censor a radio or TV show. The day they ban a book (any book) is the day I start stocking ammo and rations, because it's a quick slide down from there.

#12  "As the president and CEO of Media Matters for America, a nonprofit organization that seeks to rid the U.S. media (including book publishing) of conservative misinformation, I ask you to consider taking some action on Unfit for Command"

David Brock, in his sly, weaselly way, is trying to classify conservative views as a thought crime.

Don't go down that road, David. Don't even think of going down it. Because at the end of that road lie Treblinka, Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, and Babi Yar.

Got damn, these assholes are getting scarier by the day. They are becoming so brazen and daring, so power-hungry, and so utterly without principle that I really wonder whether they have sense enough to stop short of doing something so heinous that we'll end up in a civil war.

I fear they do not.

#9  And all those books about Bush and F9-11 were an honest portrayal of the facts. I better make an investment in the Tissue Manufactures because the Kerry Kamp is sure doing a lot of CRYING

The 'crying' they are doing is nothing compared the the crying they will be doing 3 Nov. of this year.

#7  This is TOOOOO GOOOD! By trying to censor a book that s critical of Kerry, he has shown that Kerry IS "Unfit For Command!" This is a desperate attempt to muzzle a critic. Can you imagine the outrage if Bush/Rove/Cheney/etc. tried to stop any one of the Anti-Bush books or stop the showing of 9/11? Stick a fork in these guys they are done!

#6  Just what I thought - lotsa bullshit.

Elliott also says in that second affidavit, "Had I known the facts, I would not have recommended Kerry for the Silver Star for simply pursuing and dispatching a single, wounded, fleeing Viet Cong." That statement is misleading, however. It mischaracterizes the actual basis on which Kerry received his decoration.

The official citations show Kerry was not awarded the Silver Star "for simply pursuing and dispatching" the Viet Cong. In fact, the killing is not even mentioned in two of the three versions of the official citation (see "supporting documents" at right.) The citations - based on what Elliott wrote up at the time - dwell mostly on Kerry's decision to attack rather than flee from two ambushes, including one in which he led a landing party.

Well, genius - when you're attacking, by definition you're attacking someone or something, right? Also note that Elliot claimed later in the day that the Globe mischaracterized what he sais in the 8/6/04 article; it doesn't look like that was disclosed in this article.

I think the Bronze Star issue comes down to whether there was enemy fire in the area when Rassman was dumped from JFK's boat and in the subsequent pickup. At least two people don't recall / remember there being enemy fire at the time, the prerequisite for the award. Neither person is quoted in this article.

My conclusion - FactCheck doesn't live up to its name here.

#3  More like David Crock.

Lots of assertions, what little 'evidence' of misinformation & lies that they allude to that's presented here is the 'unnamed critic' whose sole crime is that of contradiction (I think this is over the Bronze Star dispute when Kerry's boat picked up Rassmann). Guess I'll go soil myself and see what Media Matters has for convincing proof...
