China Says Taiwan President's U.S. Stop 'A Trick'

BEIJING (Reuters) - China urged the United States on Thursday not to allow Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian to set foot on U.S. soil, describing his stopovers en route to Latin America as a trick to sabotage Sino-U.S. relations.
Yes indeed. Such a visit runs the terrible risk that someone in the White House might finally see through the smoke and mirrors of China's plans for world domination.
Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian is to stop briefly in the United States on his trip to and from Latin America from late August, further angering China at a time of high tension between the arch-rivals.
Doesn't this seem to have a lot in common with the Middle East? Here's this tiny little country somehow managing to antagonize a region many times its size, merely by being successful and democratic. Too bad no one in America's government has the least clue of how to foster this island of democracy in the far east.
"The use of 'stopovers' by the Taiwan authorities as an excuse to conduct activities splitting China and sabotaging China-U.S. relations is a trick they have consistently been using," a Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement.
What, no "Yankee running dog?" No "lackey of the imperialistic capitalist hegemony?" It's no fun without the spittle.
