Christopher Johnson notes that the Statue of Liberty sits upon Fort Wood, in New York Harbor. He points to this picture, circa 1890, of Lady Liberty, when she was still defended by cannon pointing in every direction. Seems appropriate, doesn't it?

#6  It's the same Lady Liberty.......but sitting down on the job, "steering with the left hand a rudder which displays a gallic cockerel, its foot on a globe." Gallic cockerel! I know a moonbat when I see one.

#5  It's the same Lady Liberty. Here, we'll try and defend her.

#4  I got to thinking that the picture of the Statue with the cannon around it might make a good national symbol. Maybe we could replace that pyramid on the Great Seal(and shut up all the conspiracy theorists going on about the Masons). We are a free people and we'll defend that freedom fiercely. Only downside of that is the Statue's association with France. The Statue does bear an uncomfortable resemblance to the French national seal.

#3  The second that President Bush expressed his delusion that "islam is peace" before American Muslim leaders, some of whom are connected to al-Qaeda, after stating that the counter-terror war could last "ten years," I knew that Americans were being set up for unnecessary losses (economic losses alone since 911 have been estimated at over a trillion dollars). Someday the children of the current supporters of Bush's laughably protracted, limited-war/civil-policing methodology will ask their parents why they could not recognize the existence of a mortal enemy, which should have been annihilated only days after 911.

Watching the serial international-diplomatic, military-strategic, follies of the U.S. administration is like reading an annex to Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire." Islam is war.

#2  Pretty soon, maybe Phalanxes? One on each side? Sure would do a number on the harbor traffic if they opened up though.
