What the President Might Say - It is about more than just Fallujah.

"To the degree that we seek to lead the world into the 21st century, bin Laden, al Qaeda, their kindred terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, and their sympathetic supporters residing in Syria, Iran, and Lebanon kill to bring us all back to the 8th." Victor Davis Hanson, April 30, 2004, NRO

On Sept. 11, 2001, there were 19,000 Muslim Brotherhood terrorists and extremists in Egyptian prisons. Bush-Powell's acceptance of "political Islam" put half of those animals back on the streets.

Whatever you say, MBD.

#7  Hanson's piece is so good, I wish I could believe it, especially the last part, where he talks about sacrifice and our will to see this through to victory. I don't see anything like that. To most Americans, "sacrifice" means missing the last episode of "Friends." I believe it will take another 9/11--only on a far greater scale--before people here wake up. I also think it would help immensely if GWB would stop calling this a war on "Terror" and tell people what it really is -- a war against Islam. These people don't hate us because "we're free," as Dubya likes to say, they hate us because we're not Moslems, and they want to kill us all. You'd be surprised how few people understand that. Then again, if you follow the mainstream media, maybe you wouldn't.

#3  MBD: interesting screed but not sure where you're at. I can argue specifics with you -- we worked with the Northern Alliance to kick Taliban butt after 9/11. Jihad-terror in Iraq has not been made worse by De-Ba'athization in iraq. There's been a lot of quiet, behind the scenes scrutiny of the Soodis.

But more importantly: you seem impatient. There's a plan unfolding, Grasshopper, and you need to step back to see it. It isn't perfect, it's had some hitches, but the plan is there. The Soodis, the Syrians, the Iranians, the Nkors, they're all going to get what they deserve. Hanson sees that and sees the need for it, and his own impatience is that he wants to get on with it.

Watch and see.

#2  MBD - when you start a comment with "More Hanson BS," I doubt if most Rantburgers will read much further. VDH is one of the most thoughtful and articulate anti-idiotarians writing today. In other words, blow it out your ass.

#1  More Hanson BS. On Sept. 11, 2001, there were 19,000 Muslim Brotherhood terrorists and extremists in Egyptian prisons. Bush-Powell's acceptance of "political Islam" put half of those animals back on the streets. In fact, Egyptian seculars were pressured to treat subjective renunciations of terror, as gospel. Am I the only one who remembers that Bush-Powell forced Afghanistan's Northern Alliance to accept status quo armistice arrangements with Taliban? Did not Bush-Bremer make "De-Baathization" (read: Anti-Secularism) order #1 in nation-building in Iraq, with predictible jihad-terror consequences? Did Bush not engineer the squelching of the "9-11 lawsuit" by having his Justice Dept. serve as an Amicus party with Saudi terrorist defenders? Name a single act of scrutiny of Saud-Wahabi terrorism, done by Bush-Powell. Victor Davis Hanson is a pathological liar, and a slavish supporter of a lifelong crook.
