Bush-Schroeder declare rift over
2003-09-24
US President George Bush and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder have promised to work together in bringing stability to Iraq by burying their past differences. In their first substantive meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly after 16 months of intense feuding, the two leaders announced on Wednesday their rift was finally over. With the German Chancellor sitting by his side, Bush told reporters he had told Schroeder "look, we have had differences, and they are over, and we are going to work together."
Toldja this would eventually patch up. There's a difference in motivation between Jacques and Gerhard. Not that Bush is going to rely too heavily on Schroeder...
Schroeder agreed, saying: " indeed we very much feel that the differences
have been left behind."
"If I can't go to the ranch, can I go to Disneyland?"
Their ''reconciliation'' ends months of strained ties between the US and Germany over the war on Iraq. Though not repentant for the war that Germany bitterly opposed, Bush is now seeking German support for creating a multinational force in Iraq. Schroeder said he had offered some assistance. "I have told the president how very much we would like to come in and help with the resources that we do have. We very much envisage that we will assist and supply training for the security forces and police functions or be it some form of military function," he said.
Both sides need the other at the moment. It's a marriage of convenience and there won't be any children...

#9  However, Chirac didn't "run against" the US to get elected unlike Schroeder--so I consider him the bigger hypocrite! And after working for German companies for 10 years and interfacing with their management--if you Rantbourgeois think they have a higher opinion of us than the French do I got some bad news!

#8  We never ceased to be friends. We just have stupid politicians from time to time.

That's what elections are here for.

#5  Reality struck me about our need for Germany when I noticed that all the wounded were going to Ramstein. I've seen there and been to Sigonella, Sicily. Some bases will stay no matter how many small quasi bases are built. Too much infrastructure to be rebuilt in Poland. Although many would ahve said the same about Subic Bay.

#4  This is good to hear. I hope the Germans can become good friends with us again. Let bygones be bygones. Germany is much better than France in every way I can think of. Nicer people, prettier country, better soccer teams, better leadership... Time to get some German beer and celebrate. Viva la Germans! (or however you say that Viva thing in German).

#3  You're right, OP. I forgot about the flounder in the closet. My mistake. LOL!

#2  AP - actually, Jacques keeps bringing the same dead fish to the table, smell and all. No one likes to smell two-year-old dead fish, nor a Frenchman carrying one. Chiraq at least knows where to look for his number one enemy - in the mirror.

#1  However, France is another story. How can one climb into bed with someone from La-La Land? Chiraq also brings nothing to the table. So he is out.
