2003-07-28

#8  Bob Hope was a true patriot and a real mensch. The contrast with today's radical and self-absorbed celebrities is truly depressing.

#7  When you compare the life of this American hero to the faux "Man from Hope", you realize who the REAL man from Hope was.

#6  As usual, Mark Steyn put it best.

#5  About the last representative of an era when comedians were funny...

#4  Damn--this man was truly the last of his kind. I miss him and so many other class acts from my parents' generation (Dean Martin, Frank, Red Skelton, etc.). Dames, drinks, cigars, bowties and laughs aplenty, and all without uttering four-letter words in every sentence. Truly a great era is passed.

#3  Put him on the dollar coin! Kind of off subject but the best comedian of that era for my money was Jack Benny.

#2  Keep Hope Alive...
(Sorry, could not resist)

The amazing thing about Bob Hope was his ability to be relevent to soldiers 2 generations younger than himself, particularly during the cynical 60's. He deserves big honors this week.

#1  Never a foul word in public other than some really biting satirical comments, mostly about him self
