Explosion outside Spanish court
2003-07-25
A bomb has exploded outside a court house in the northern Spanish province of Navarre injuring one person.
Guess who?
An anonymous warning call made by a man claiming to be from the Basque separatist group ETA was made 15 minutes before the bomb went off in the town of Estella.
Yup, they’re back.
The province of Navarre is claimed by Basque separatists as part of a greater Basque homeland. This new incident will go some way towards confirming the fears of the Spanish authorities that the armed group ETA has started a violent new summer campaign. On Tuesday, two devices went off in the seaside resort towns of Benidorm and Alicante on the Costa Blanca. Before those explosions a warning call had also been made in the name of ETA. Thirteen people were injured, two seriously.

#3  Gee, how come they don't try this crap on the other side of the Pyrennes. Don't they also claim the Southwest of France as their "ancestral homeland"?

#2  I think the idea is that if they have their own little linguistically distinct paradise they can all be Maxists, and they (the ETA bigs) can be in charge.

#1  Why is it that every little lunatic fringe ethnic minority has to have a freaking homeland.......geez louise christmas....
what is the big problem with being part of Spain? Last time I checked, Franco is dead and all of the persecutions of the Basques by the Guardia Nationale were ended by Juan Carlos.

Has anyone explained to these dimwits that if they have their own nation, that it costs a lot of loot to write a constitution, form a police force, hold elections, build a bunch of government buildings, set aside a big bunch of money for pensions, perks and benefits for the elected officials and their drones, not to mention the 30 quadzillion metric tons of paper for all of the laws, rules, regulations and forms for the new government.
Hell, the Spanish will cut these troublemakers free and the next thing you know either Spain or the US has to send in a peacekeeping force or give them a butt load of money to keep their little sniveling fiefdom up and running.

I say Spain should just cut these little suckers loose and see what happens when they figure out being independent is a lot of work.
