In the process, cars were stopped and thoroughly searched for firearms and other weapons that might be used against Israel. The measure, aimed at appeasing Israel and the United States, was severely criticized by Hamas leader Dr. Abdul Aziz Rantisi. âThe weapons of the resistance is not illegal. This is a weapon with which we defend our homes, children and women and ourselves,â he said in a press interview.

It is believed though that the campaign will succeed in decommissioning only a few weapons since the vast bulk of the resistance weapons are thoroughly hidden. |
