| S’pore JI chief gets 18 months’ jail |

| A man accused by Singapore of plotting to crash a plane into Changi Airport has been jailed for 18 months in Indonesia for immigration offences, the state Antara news agency reported on Tuesday. A court in the town of Dumai on Sumatra island on Monday ruled that Mas Selamat Kastari, 42, was guilty of falsifying immigration documents and Indonesian ID cards, Antara reported. The court could not immediately be reached for confirmation. Police arrested Kastari, a Singaporean aviation technician, on Indonesia's Bintan island south of Singapore in January. Police said he was the chief in Singapore of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) extremist network. The Government says Kastari had plotted to crash a plane into Changi airport there. 18 months is a start, gives you time to dig up more evidence on him. |
