| Palestinians continued on Saturday to reject Israeli claims that al-Qaida members were operating in Israel, saying however, that they had uncovered Israeli collaborators calling themselves al-Qaida. "Yeah! It wuz them Jews!" Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (1929-2002?) called Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's claim of al-Quaida agents operating in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon "a big, big, big, big lie to cover his attacks and his [Sharon's] crimes against our people everywhere, from Rafah to Jenin and in between." "Yeah. An' they doctored that website, too!" Senior Palestinian official Saeb Erekat said it was part of Sharon's campaign to sway left-wing voters before the Jan. 28 elections. Erekat said Sharon's comments were "unfounded and baseless... There is no such thing as al-Qaida in Gaza and the West Bank, there are 3.3 million Palestinians who are living under the Israeli occupation seeking their freedom and independence." "And turbans. They want turbans, too." Rashid Abu Shbak, the Palestinian chief of preventive security in Gaza, said his forces had discovered Palestinian "collaborators" who had been ordered by Israeli security agencies to "work in the Gaza Strip under the name of al-Qaida." He said the investigation was ongoing and evidence would be presented soon. "Y'see, if you beat 'em long enough, they'll say anything you want 'em to. But y'gotta keep working on them, or it'll wear off..." |
