Iran sez terror war should be a UN concern. Really.
2002-07-17
Iran's national security chief Hassan Rowhani said any further anti-terror measures, notbaly against Iraq, should be headed by the United Nations. Rowhani insisted on the UN-led mission when asked a question on a possible US military attack against neighbouring Iraq. "The Islamic republic of Iran does not consider attacks and wars a solution to problems," he said Wednesday.
That's right. Maintaining and financing an extensive network of terrorist organizations is the solution to problems.
Iran "believes that if terrorism is to be fought seriously, then this fight should be headed by the United Nations," said the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) during talks with journalists in Tehran, state radio reported.
The most effective thing a state (possibly within a state) that drives terrorism can do to protect itself is to ensure that the fight against it is led by the most ineffectual organization possible. If there was any serious intent behind the periodic efforts of Iran to take control of the war against the machinery of terror out of American hands, they'd be pushing for the establishment of an international force with cross-border police powers — kind of like Interpol with teeth — to track down and arrest those controlling the operation. There ain't no sech critter, and there won't be, because Iran and Saudi Arabia would have too much to lose if there were.
