PPP rules out electoral alliance with Jamaat |
2002-05-21 |
The People's Party has ruled out electoral alliance with the Jamaat-i-Islami. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Punjab PPP president Qasim Zia said he did not think that any alliance with the Jamaat was possible. He said he had met Qazi Husain Ahmad during the all-parties conference in a routine and nothing was discussed with him except referendum. Qazi's party is so arrogant, and its policies stink so loud, even the Crooks' Party can't bring itself to ally with him. Asked if the party would support the army at a time when the situation on borders was tense, he said the PPP, despite its differences with the government, would be with the armed forces whenever there was a testing time for the country. "Yeah. We'll be right behind you, buddy. Want me to hold your wallet while you're busy?" |
