One person was killed and seven others were injured in bomb blasts and brickbatting in front of three mosques during Friday prayers triggering tension at Chandernagore in West Bengal's Hooghly district on today. IGP (Law and Order) Chayan Mukherjee said the bombs went off while prayers were being offered in the mosques. Policemen arrived on the scene and chased away the miscreants who hurled brickbats and bombs while retreating, the IGP said. Official sources said one of the miscreants, who was critically injured when a bomb he was carrying in his trouser pocket went off, died at Chinsurah hospital. Seven others suffered minor injuries. The Rapid Action Force and the Eastern Frontier Rifles were deployed in Chandanagore police station area as tension ran high. A report from Hooghly district said 30 people were arrested.
