U.S. warplanes continued to strike Taliban positions around Kabul. The Taliban soldiers fought back with anti-aircraft fire after several days of holding their fire. An opposition commander said the enemy had reinforced the front line with about 2,000 troops, mostly Arab and Pakistani volunteers, and have also brought in ammunition, tanks and other vehicles. Hundreds of troops of the Alliance, backed by tanks, massed at the front line just north of the city and commanders said they expected to advance within hours. |
