| If President Bush launches military strikes against terrorist bases, he will have the support of most Americans. In a NEWSWEEK poll released today, 71 percent of 1,001 adults surveyed by telephone said they favored such attacks, even with civilian casualties. And 54 percent favored attacking those suspected of terrorism, even if it hasn't been proved that they are responsible for last week's attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
