‘Can’t debate so change numbers’: Critics attack pro-Obama job data
A strong U.S. jobs report has been met with skepticism today as critics questioned whether a substantial unemployment-rate drop was perhaps too conveniently timed for Barack Obama after the president’s widely panned debate performance on Wednesday.

The jobs numbers give Obama an upbeat end to a startling week for both campaigns, while Republican challenger Mitt Romney finally addressed his secretly taped disparaging remarks about the 47% of Americans who don’t pay federal income taxes, calling his words “just completely wrong.”

The government’s new jobs report showed that the unemployment rate fell to 7.8% last month, dropping below 8% for the first time in nearly four years. It’s now at the level it was when Obama took office. Unemployment had been at 8.1% before Friday’s report, and economists had expected the number to edge up instead.

The report broke an important psychological barrier before the Nov. 6 election. No president has been re-elected with unemployment above 8% since the Great Depression.

The report also had the potential to swing momentum back to Obama after he suffered through a weak first debate against Romney on Wednesday night.

Romney said shortly after the jobs report that 7.8 unemployment “is not what a real recovery looks like.”

The final monthly jobs report before the election will come just days before Nov. 6.

The surprising report so soon before the election brought skepticism from some — “can’t debate so change numbers,” former General Electric CEO Jack Welch tweeted — and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis found herself defending her work from suspicions that the Obama administration might have skewed the jobs numbers.

#4  You're quibbling...
Posted by: Steve White || 10/05/2012 17:43 Comments || Top||

#5  It's not a quibble. It's a meaningful distinction.

If Obama put in a really bad performance (which he did), then it really doesn't matter what Romney did. The whole idea of cheating becomes a non-starter.

Also, the idea of Romney as some kind of giant slayer is not supportable. There was no giant on stage to slay.

I've watched Romney debate many times. He is generally competent, and that's about it. He's also thin skinned and prone to exaggerate, even lie. He lied, for example, about editing the paperback version of his book to exclude the line about rolling our Romneycare nationwide. Flat out lied his ass off. Or, is that also a mere quibble?

Point is that Romney had the good fortune to be on stage when his opponent dropped dead of self inflicted wounds. That's about it.

White House Authorizes Search for President's Mojo
The White House today announced that it was offering a “substantial cash reward” for information leading to “the location and safe return of President Obama’s mojo.”

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced the search with an air of urgency: “We will use every resource at our disposal to ensure the return of the President’s mojo, and that goes double for his groove.”

Mr. Carney said that as of late Wednesday afternoon no one at the White House knew the President’s mojo was missing, but minutes into last night’s televised debate “it became clear that something was terribly, horribly wrong.”

Even if the White House is successful in locating Mr. Obama’s mojo, Mr. Carney acknowledged, it could take days or even weeks to get it working.

In an effort to reboot his campaign, President Obama plans to announce some bold initiatives for his second term, including killing Osama bin Laden again.

Obama camp promises tougher response to Romney in next debate
Reeling from a debate performance where President B.O. often seemed listless and subdued relative to his Republican opponent, the Obama campaign's top strategist said Thursday they would more aggressively challenge Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the Publican nominee for president. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. More to the point, he isn't President B.O...
on alleged inconsistencies in his policies.

"You know, you can't tell the American people up is down and down is up and ignore your history and ignore your statements," Obama senior adviser David Axelrod
...a Chicago-based political hack, political adviser to Barack B.O. Obama since 2004. Following the 2008 election, he was appointed as Senior Advisor to Obama and we all see how well that worked out....
said Thursday on MSNBC. "You can't square the circle, and Gov. Romney is going to be held accountable for that."

Axelrod went on to accuse Romney of playing "a shell game" at the debate and said the Republican nominee deserved "an 'F' for being honest with the American people."
In an earlier interview on NBC's "Today Show," Axelrod added that the president was "looking very much forward" to his next chance to debate Romney on Oct. 16.

"I know this, he will come, he will make an honest argument with the American people about how to rebuild the economy and the middle class and he'll hold Gov. Romney to account for these big gaps in the truth we saw last night," Axelrod said.

Stoopid format-"How do your policies differ?" encouraged lying/spinning about the other guy's policies.

Then the first three rounds went like this:

O: Gov Romney's $5 trillion tax cut, plus $2T the military doesn't want...

R: That's not my plan.

O: [Same as above.]

R: That's NOT my plan!

Repeat (at least) one more time before the moderator got them to move on.

I thought the Empty Suit shone through the pretty smile.

#4  I'm hopeful for R&R, but none of this will matter to the 95 percenters, millions of Food Stamp, housing subsidy and free Telephone recipients. Abe Lincoln could be running against the Champ and they'd still vote for the Champ. It's much, much deeper than the economy or job performance.

#5  Count Besoeker as one of the ones who gets it.

A method must be found to wean people away from the notion of government as provider of money, and security about an uninterrupted supply of said money, or America ends.

Inherent in this is a reversal of the trend here in the U.S. towards the European redefinition of family. Family should be defined as husband, wife, and children. The Euro definition has become state, woman, child.

With the predictable results.

Can Romney do it, if elected? We'll see.

Romney/Ryan will have to be on top of their game in the rest of the debates. Obama Team will not stop at anything. Their method of winning is to destroy opponents at any cost. These are not nice people. Think of Al Capone and you will come close to their MO.

CNN Poll: Most watchers say Romney debate winner
(CNN) -- Two-thirds of people who watched the first presidential debate think that Republican nominee Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the Publican nominee for president.

According to a CNN/ORC International survey conducted right after the debate, 67% of debate watchers questioned said that the Republican nominee won the faceoff, with one in four saying that President Barack Obama
If you have a small business, you didn't build that...
was victorious.

"No presidential candidate has topped 60% in that question since it was first asked in 1984," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

AARP to Obama: Don't mention us again
President Obama invoked AARP to defend his health care law last night, prompting the influential group to release a statement telling him not to do that again.

"While we respect the rights of each campaign to make its case to voters, AARP has never consented to the use of its name by any candidate or political campaign," the group posted in a statement. "AARP is a nonpartisan organization and we do not endorse political candidates nor coordinate with any candidate or political party."

Obama can perhaps be forgiven for thinking he could mention AARP given how they coordinated with him to pass Obamacare, which is a golden goose for the organization.

"Thanks to its cuts to Medicare Advantage, Obamacare is expected to expand the number of seniors buying "medigap" supplemental insurance plans," The Washington Examiner explained in an editorial. "AARP controls 34 percent of the market for such plans. According to a 2011 House Ways and Means Committee report, AARP stands to make between $55 million and $166 million from Obamacare in 2014 alone."

Biden: 'Yes, We Do' Want to Raise Taxes By a Trillion Dollars
"On top of the trillions of dollars of spending that we have already cut, we're gonna ask -- yes -- we're gonna ask the wealthy to pay more," said Biden. "My heart breaks, come on man. You know the phrase they always use? Obama and Biden want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars. Guess what? Yes we do in one regard. We want to let that trillion dollar tax cut expire so the middle class doesn't have to bear the burden of all that money going to the super wealthy. That's not a tax raise, that's called fairness where I come from."

Second, he is an idiot. So I don't want to credit him with some secret master plan.

What I will believe is that the Obama people have been treating Biden like an idiot step child for the last 4 years. That works on many levels. And Joe is a small, bitter man who knows this is it for him. He will never be president. So his choices are 4 more years with Obama or take the bastard out with him.

No, that's not quite it. The Dems are the party that believes the state has first call on all labor and all wealth. That is why they view taking less out of your paycheck as a COST to government. That's why they were shocked at the reaction to "you didn't build that".

#14  Joe's primary mission is to give old white men a bad name, and he's accomplishing his mission.

#15  Mr. Biden's primary mission at this point is to send up trial balloons.

If this line works, it'll be implemented by the President.

If it doesn't, well it's "that crazy but lovable Uncle Joe Biden" schtick - again.

#16  Joe plays well with some blue collar people. That's why he's off leash.

#17  I wish one Repub would say to this moron - "okay, Mr. Biden - you're gonna ask the wealthy to pay more for what exactly? If you tax the top-1% more (or anyone else for that matter) what are you going to do w/that money? Are you going to pay down the deficit w/that money? What exactly do you think the middle class will endure? We'd like to see your plan for "all that money". BTW - This is not Sherwood Forest and the wealthy in this country are not the Sheriff of Nottingham and you Sir are no Robin Hood. Taking money from people who earned it in the guise of "fairness" is called theft where I come from."

#18  ...yeah, the self identified Robin Hood types seem to forget it was Prince John and the Sheriff [ie THE GOVERNMENT!] who were extracting TAXES from the humble working folk.
