-Lurid Crime Tales-
Farzad Fazeli
Follow-up from Weds. submission:
Here’s what you need to know:

California man is accused of attacking a Republican politician at a fair during an anti-Trump and anti-GOP rant. Farzad Fazeli
Nota bene: Farzad is a Persian name. Fazeli may also be Persian — the internet is unsure, but that seems to be the background of famous people with that name. That does not necessarily mean our Mr. Fazeli is a Moslem colonist, though.
was arrested after police say he threatened Rudy Peters, who is running for Congress against Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell

The 35-year-old Fazeli pulled out a "switchblade," during the incident and tried to stab Peters, but the knife did not work, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The incident occurred as Peters campaigned on September 9 at the Castro Valley Fall Festival, the sheriff’s office said.

"The knife malfunctioned and the victim became involved in a physical struggle with Fazeli," Sergeant Ray Kelly said in a statement. Fazeli fled the scene but was detained a short time later by deputies. A switchblade knife was located on his person. ... No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney." Fazeli has been charged with felony assault, criminal threats, brandishing a weapon and possession of a switchblade knife.

Peters, a 56-year-old businessman running for California’s 15th Congressional District seat, told the San Francisco Chronicle, "It’s a shame. People are just polarized right now, and this country’s divided and it’s just a mess. It shouldn’t be that way."

Swalwell, his Democratic opponent, tweeted, "On Sunday, my opponent @PetersCongress was attacked at his campaign booth in Castro Valley. I’m glad to hear Mr. Peters is okay. But it’s NEVER okay to use violence to settle political disagreements (or any disagreement). Fortunately, @ACSOSheriffs arrested the suspect."

#2  What an idiot - my brothers used to solder a small round steel piece along the top edge of a 6" buck knife, so when you're pulling it out, you'd just flick it with your thumb to make the blade lock in place. Worked 100% of the time, sounded just like a switchblade and was great for fending off gay guys who picked you up hitchhiking and thought you were fresh meat.

So much for... 'a few bad FBI apples'
[PJ] Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed on Fox News Wednesday that as many as thirteen different FBI officials were leaking to one reporter, according to the Department of Justice inspector general’s report on the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email investigation.

He presented that information to push back against spin from fired FBI Agent Peter Strzok’s lawyer, who claimed that an April 2017 text message referring to the FBI's "media strategy" was about combating leaks.

"The argument that Mr. Strzok’s making just doesn’t hold water, doesn’t pass the smell test," Jordan said.

Newly revealed text messages show Strzok discussing media leaks with his paramour, former FBI attorney Lisa Page. "I had literally just gone to find this phone to tell you I want to talk to you about media leak strategy with DOJ before you go," one of the texts reads.

#2  Its in the FBI culture. They leak to the press on just about every level. We had issues with it on a job I had. Our leaders put out false information and by the next day the FBI had leaked it across the wire.

Caribbean-Latin America
Bolivia is following Venezuela and Nicaragua - and that’s toward totalitarian rule
[MiamiHerald] While the mass exodus of more than 2.3 million Venezuelans and the murder of more than 300 anti-government protesters in Nicaragua are making big headlines, it may be time to pay attention to another country in the region that is also moving rapidly toward totalitarian rule: Bolivia.

Bolivian President Evo Morales announced last week that he will submit to his country’s Congress - where he enjoys a comfortable majority - a “law against lies,” which would penalize news about his government that he doesn’t like.

In several statements in recent weeks, Morales said he will propose a law to “punish liars” in the media and to “moralize” independent news organizations. The Inter-American Press Association has denounced that the proposed law would impose an all-out censorship on the media.

It’s ironic that Morales does even dare to publicly bring up the issue of lying. He has repeatedly promised to retire after finishing his constitutionally-allowed term, only to circumvent the rule of law to re-elect himself several times.

It’s time for the region’s diplomatic community to speak out about the slow-motion coup d’etat that’s taking place in Bolivia before it escalates into a Venezuela or Nicaraguan-style crisis.

Europe
EU to give internet firms 1 hour to remove extremist content
[ABCnews] European authorities are planning to slap internet companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook with big fines if they don't take down extremist content within one hour.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said in a speech Wednesday that the Commission is proposing the new rules as part of efforts to step up the bloc's security.

He said that removing material within an hour is important because it's "the critical window in which the greatest damage is done."

Why should the US defend an imperialist peoples trying to make a paying colony out of the world's internet that bows to the EU? Pull out of NATO NOW!
[BoingBoing] Lobbyists for "creators" threw their lot in with the giant entertainment companies and the newspaper proprietors and managed to pass the new EU Copyright Directive by a hair's-breadth this morning, in an act of colossal malpractice to harm to working artists will only be exceeded by the harm to everyone who uses the internet for everything else.

Here's what the EU voted in favour of this morning:

* Upload filters: Everything you post, from short text snippets to stills, audio, video, code, etc will be surveilled by copyright bots run by the big platforms. They'll compare your posts to databases of "copyrighted works" that will be compiled by allowing anyone to claim copyright on anything, uploading thousands of works at a time. Anything that appears to match the "copyright database" is blocked on sight, and you have to beg the platform's human moderators to review your case to get your work reinstated.

Feinstein accuses Kavanaugh of sexual mis-behavior with a girl when in high school
WASHINGTON — The senior Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee referred information involving Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, to federal investigators on Thursday, but the senator declined to make public what the matter involved.

Two officials familiar with the matter say the incident involved possible sexual misconduct between Judge Kavanaugh and a woman when they were both in high school. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

#9  Explanation of a tragedy

Chuck Schumer was visiting a Washington D.C. primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings.

The teacher asked Mr Schumer if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'Tragedy'. So Mr Schumer asked the class for an example of a 'Tragedy'

A little boy stood up and offered: 'If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing' in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy.'
'Incorrect,' said Schumer. 'That would be an accident.'

A little girl raised her hand: 'If a school bus carrying fifty children drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.'

'I'm afraid not',explained Schumer, 'that's what we would refer to as a great loss'.

The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Schumer searched the room.

'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'

Finally, at the back of the room, little Johnny raised his hand and said: 'If a plane carrying you, Mrs. Feinstein, and Mrs. Pelosi, the Obama’s and Mrs. Clinton was struck by a 'friendly fire' missile & blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.'

'Fantastic' exclaimed Schumer, 'and can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'

'Well', said Johnny, 'it has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be a f**king accident either!'

#13  The Guardian has a scoop on the letter and yes, it is even dumber than we thought it would be:

A source who said they were briefed on the contents of the letter said it described an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman that took place when both were 17 years old and at a party. According to the source, Kavanaugh and a male friend had locked her in a room against her will, making her feel threatened, but she was able to get out of the room. The Guardian has not verified the apparent claims in the letter. It is not yet clear who wrote it.

If true, then that means we have really hit rock bottom on how partisan and pathetic that these proceedings are.

No more public hearings and no cameras in the future. Will stop a lot of this bullshit.

#14  ...This one's easy: Grassley and McConnell need to stand up today and say, "Hmm. In that case, she needs to be on the Hill Monday morning at 8AM, ready to testify. If not, we're going to assume that this is just another game."

#15  the senator declined to make public what the matter involved.

They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

“I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,”

“That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further

That's in just the first few paragraphs. High School? Doesn't Feinstein have something better to do? Feinstein's response is very high school. This is like Romney leaving the dog on top of the car during a road trip.

Attempted murder of a nominee by 1000 innuendo cuts? For crying out loud, have the Dems stooped this low? (Rhetorical question). It's not going to happen. He will be confirmed.

#28  Kavanaugh and a male friend had locked her in a room against her will, making her feel threatened.

This describes a classic bar exam kidnapping (see e.g., Justia's description). Feinstein doesn't expect this to delay Kavanaugh's confirmation, she expects Democrats to utilize it at a later time as a basis for his impeachment and removal.

Michelle Obama Re-Emerges, Announces Major Plans Ahead of 2020 Election
h/t Instapundit
[Lifezette] Michelle Obama announced a 10-city speaking tour to dovetail with the release of her upcoming memoir, "Becoming," in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

The post, hashtagged "#IAmBecoming," has since been viewed nearly 2 million times on Instagram.

The accompanying video, also released on Twitter, boasts over a million views in less than a day.

"It’s the story of my humdrum plainness, my tiny victories, my lasting bruises, my ordinary hopes and worries. It’s the story of who I am, truly, and I’m proud of it ‐ blemishes and all," said Obama in the post describing the book.

She also invited fans to get tickets for the tour.
Well, given the surprising success of (totally brainless bints) Alexandria & Julia, I wouldn't be surprised if she tries.

#1  Seriously? "#IAmBecoming"? Admitting he was already in transition, and letting us know he's finishing the process?

Keep that in mind.

#8  Plans for the next Obama/ValJar presidency with more Iranian meddling already being plotted in the compound in DC. The preening windbag spend a lot of his time basking in the adoration, while ValJsar ran the white house. The Wookie, has a much meaner, more vengeful nature, waiting to be uncorked.

Whoever came up with that line should be fired. And the editor in charge.

#10  Yeah - God that's a terrible blurb. Here, of the top of my head:

"An intimate look at the life of the first African American First Lady, beginning with her struggles as a young working mother, her husband's political rise, and her time in the White House."

And that's off the top of my head!

Democratic socialist Julia Salazar beats incumbent in N.Y. senate primary
h/t Instapundit
[WashingtonTimes] Julia Salazar, a democratic socialist, overcame intense scrutiny of her personal life and questions about her truthfulness Thursday to win the Democratic primary for a state Senate seat in Brooklyn.

The 27-year-old, first-time candidate defeated Sen. Martin Dilan in New York’s 18th Senate District, joining the ranks of leftist insurgents nationwide who have knocked out mainstream Democrats.

There is no Republican candidate running in the district in the general election, virtually guaranteeing her win.

Dilan, 67, was a 16-year incumbent representing a district that has gone through major changes, with longtime residents being pushed out by rising rents and an influx of mostly white, wealthier newcomers.
I guess, for Yuppies, living in a fantasy world is a plus.

Government
It's not a tax problem, It's a spending problem
[CNS] Feds Collect Record Individual Income Taxes Through August; Still Run $898b Deficit.
How much of that is interest on current debt, and how much of that interest payment is higher than in previous years simply due to the interest rate having increased, as President Obama intended? And how much of the remaining is non-discretionary spending over which neither President Trump nor Congress has any say unless Social Security and Medicare payments to our retired citizens are cut?

#1  The average term of US federal debt is around 70 months. Assuming an average interest rate increase of 1% across those 11 months (which probably overstates the case), a debt of $22T & 11/70 of said debt having been refinanced at the higher rate a decent back-of-the-envelope number would be $35B in additional interest costs attributable to said 1% increase in interest rates. Significant but it's still a spending problem.
