Reports now that the shooter was allowed 45 minutes unimpeded in the school before he was stopped. Most of the sources I saw i would not rely upon or pass on. However, the Dallas Morning News seems to be saying something similar.

There are times when the strongest part a facade is the door. None of defeating even a decent deadbolt is stealth ninja work.
With all considered pros and cons of this age of electronics and remote access, a 'master circuit key' is now a possibility.

Columbine Redux - a lot of analysis produced a policy assessment that in school shootings that are active, active assault/engagement tactics, ad hoc if SWAT response is not timely, is essential to neutralize the ongoing threat and reduce overall loss of life. Can't determine yet if it was cowardice, poor leadership, or some as yet unknown that caused the apparent delay. In any case, after the grieving, some ruthless honesty is required.

Today, DPS officials said there was no officer at the school and that the shooter walked through an unlocked back door without being confronted by anybody.

No, there is a huge difference in manipulating a controller or keyboard and mouse to line up a shot and doing it with a 6-10 lb rifle. I enjoy shooting games and find very little cross over. It may let them see sight picture but in the game it's always nice and in focus and easy to see and it's not that way in real life. Certainly shooters didn't in any way count as practice when I was doing competition shooting in Service rifle matches. No, I suspect the fact that most of these shots they take are under 50' with a rifle is what makes a huge difference. Even if your 2" off at 50 yards with your zero, at 50' that isn't going to mean much. I also think the biggest factor is the sheer amount of time these guys seem to get.
