[Reuters] Nearly three-quarters of Americans say that the United States should continue to support Ukraine, despite Russian threats that it could use nuclear weapons to protect its territory, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Wednesday.
The polling suggested continuing backing for President Joe Biden's provision of weapons systems, training and other military assistance for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's government, despite concerns that the war might escalate if Ukraine is provided longer-range weapons that could hit Russia.
The online poll of 1,005 Americans showed that 73% agreed that the United States should continue to support Ukraine, despite Russian warnings that it could make use of its nuclear arsenal. Both Democrats and Republicans agreed, although there was more support among Biden's fellow Democrats - 81% - than Republicans - at 66%.
And in the most recent poll, conducted Oct. 4-5, 66% of respondents said Washington specifically should continue providing weapons to Ukraine, up from 51% in a similar poll in August.
It shows that US likely voters oppose continuing the war and favor negotiations by a margin of two to one. Even if it means Ukraine gives up a sizeable chunk of territory.

Likely voters provide the best estimate of election outcomes. The worst estimates come from surveys of random individuals who, in many or even most cases, are not even registered to vote — let alone actually going to vote. Only about 60% or so of registered voters actually show up and vote in US elections.

The Quincy Institute poll’s results make sense when you consider how batshit crazy and corrupt the Washington foreign policy Blob is. They’re completely out of touch with the American people on this issue… as they are on so many issues. They’ve lied so much, and spun the truth so much, that they’ve convinced themselves the people support them when the truth is that Americans want negotiations now.
Marcus Stanley of the Quincy Institute explains the disconnect between the public’s appetite for negotiations and Washington’s appetite for escalation and warmongering:
“Polls have been consistent in finding that people faulted Russia for what are some pretty outrageous and illegal actions, and that they support assistance to Ukraine," Marcus Stanley, Quincy's advocacy director, told Newsweek. "But what people have not been asking about is whether people favored seeking a diplomatic or negotiated solution to the war."
He noted that while people try to pit diplomacy strategies and support for Ukraine as mutually exclusive approaches, he doesn't believe that to be the case. Stanley said that the poll, which has a margin of error of 3 points, was not asking people to choose between one or the other, but questioning if there was broad support for combining the current support for Ukraine's sovereignty with peace talks.
“We found quite strong public support for the idea of pairing our assistance to Ukraine with a diplomatic or negotiation track," Stanley said. However, he noted, "In Washington, D.C., it would be considered almost a radical perspective to say that we should even be talking to Russia at all."

It's possible to support Ukraine and support the idea of diplomacy at the same time. Everybody supports the idea of diplomacy as long as they get what they want out of it. And diplomacy works for absolutely nobody that doesn't have other means at their disposal.

But with regard to polls like this, it seems to me America is a democratic republic instead of a direct democracy for a reason. If changing our involvement in Ukraine is that important to those who actually vote, as opposed to thinking that going the negotiation route would be awfully nice but other concerns are more urgent, we’ll see the result in the election only a month away. Polling only indicates how things probably will go — like so much else, until it happens in real life we can’t know how factors we didn’t think to measure and calculate in the model will effect the outcome.

Over the past day, during the active offensive operations of the units of the People's Militia of the LPR, the enemy suffered heavy losses in manpower and military equipment. Destroyed:

Peaceful life is being restored in the territories of the Lugansk People's Republic liberated from Ukrainian nationalists: engineering and sapper units of the People's Militia of the LPR continue demining. During October 5, they cleared more than seven hectares of territory from explosive objects left by Ukrainian nationalists in the areas of the settlements of Novoaleksandrovka and Volkodaevo.

Commentary by Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have completed the regrouping and concentrated their forces in the area of the village of Pershotravnee. Forces from Kupyansk approached there and united with those troops that were operating in the Liman area. The forces are large, a lot of equipment, including Caesars. The bulk of the equipment is new armored vehicles of Western and Turkish production.
The main goal is a concentrated strike on Svatovo, with the designation of actions on Kremennaya. There will be embarrassment if everything turns out like this, and the military will shrug their shoulders: but how could we assume this? We did not know! Or rather, not embarrassment, but "regrouping". And it will be another tragedy for the people living there.
It is clearly seen that the RF Ministry of Defense lacks a limited grouping to conduct a military defense. But why did the generals not insist on partial mobilization at least in April, but took care only in September, after several waves passed in Ukraine and the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine increased by 4 times?

I'm not convinced. Svotove isn't exactly on the way to anywhere in particular other than Staroblisk which is likewise on the way to nowhere in particular other than the border.
And the UA have been mostly very task- and goal-oriented, going in more or less direct envelopment arcs during the whole of the Kharkiv campaign. And the goal is taking back Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, not another expanse of empty northern Luhansk countryside.
I'd expect them to do another left hook north of Kreminna, which means, say, Ploschenka and Holykove. Nasty marsh country east of there, though.

[ColonelCassad] 1. Near Svatovo and Kreminnaya, the RF Armed Forces continue to hold the line against the backdrop of the accumulation of forces by the enemy for strikes to the north and south of Svatovo.
A frontal assault on Svatovo and Kremennaya is unlikely.
It is also unlikely that the Armed Forces will attack Krasny Liman at the current stage.
2. Near Artemovsk, our troops made progress in Otradovka and Zaitsevo. Otradovka was taken, Zaitsevo will be taken tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. After that, the direct assault on Artemovsk will become relevant.
3. In the Nikopol direction, the enemy is probing a new line of defense in order to continue the offensive on Berislav. We can expect the continuation of active offensive operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the next few days, plus auxiliary strikes in the Posad-Pokrovsky direction.

By shutting down the pipelines, the Russians were in breach of the gas delivery contracts on Nord Stream 1. They were liable for gas not delivered. The amount was growing each day and already reached billions of Euros.
The destruction of the pipelines invalidated the contracts (Force Majeure clause). How fortuitous for the Russians.
Then the Russians tried the "You want candy little girl?" ploy with the undamaged half of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The Germans told the Russians, "Buzz off creep."

Let me get this straight. The Russians designed, built and operate the pipelines - they presumably are subject matter expert’s on the technical aspects of them. Yet they are not permitted to provide input / insight on what happened and are actively excluded from the incident site. That doesn’t inspire confidence in the folks conducting an impartial investigation into the situation.
