Russia is so short on trained manpower they are grabbing anyone that has or had some military training, or at least know which way the bang end of a gun goes. They have taken horrible losses and unlike Ukraine, they don't have a manpower pool that is willing and able to fill those empty spots. So they are taking anyone they can just to try to hold the line, but as recent events are showing that is no longer enough. They need to withdraw from place, shorten the line and consolidate and try to hold through winter to get men trained up and ready for after the Spring mud. I don't think they will be able to do it though.

Musk offered a Ukraine-Russia peace proposal, and encouraged his followers to vote on whether they think it's a good idea or not, proposing a "redo" of referendums for the four annexed regions of eastern Ukraine which Vladimir Putin declared part of the Russian Federation last week. It would also be conditioned on Ukraine remaining neutral vis-a-vis future NATO membership.
He followed by saying the above conditions for ceasefire and peaceful settlement is "highly likely to be the outcome in the end" anyway regardless of how much it infuriates people ready to back Ukraine at all costs. As Musk noted, it remains "just a question of how many die before then."
Within a couple of hours after the poll going live, which by then reflected almost 40% saying "yes" and just over 60% voting it down, Musk said it is being attacked by bots.
Ukrainian diplomats among others, such as Kiev's ambassador to Germany, lashed out... "Fuck off is my very diplomatic reply to you," said Ambassador Andrij Melnyk.

I think even the other technocrats, globalist putzes really, will be rallied against him for daring to step into the domain of big government. Frankly I don't know if he's bad news in the long run. Governments may feel the same way. If he can supply oomph and muscle to the dominant faction, only then does he survive. Or they come after him.

I get your drift but that’s more than a little exaggerated, Murcek. It’s more complicated than that.
Of course they pursue their own interests, but the UK, France, Germany and Italy have each defined those interests differently from each other — and differently at different times. Adenauer was adamantly pro-US; De Gaulle was not. The socialist Helmut Schmidt was very pro-US, the right-leaning French presidents Giscard and Chirac were not. Kohl and Schroeder went their own way on major issues; Merkel was very pro-American but still pursued her own path.
What’s obvious now is that the German, French and Italian populations at a minimum — probably the Spanish too, and definitely the Hungarians and the Czechs — have soured on NATO and will look to drop out altogether at some point in the near future.
They were already moving that way when the US and it’s proxies blew up German industry’s lifeline. Unbelievably stupid move on Biden’s part — unless of course one of his evil puppet masters is actually trying to destroy Germany and the rest of Western Europe with it….

Nobody can say now with any certainty how this madness will end. Thanks, Joe.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union there has been only one reason for the continued existence of NATO. It's not to keep Russia out of Western Europe. The Russians these days can't even get past Kiev. The real reason for keeping NATO going is to keep the Germans from ever militarizing again. It is most important to keep Germans fat, dumb and happy. If Germany breaks from NATO, all bets are off.

It was never Ukraine's territory until somebody drew a line on a map after the Soviet Union collapsed. Until then Ukraine was never independent. Never. Ukraine existed at Russia's pleasure because it provided a buffer between Western Europe and Russia. The territory Putin has annexed is full of ethnic Russians who want nothing to do with you. And yet, Biden is willing to risk nuclear war for it. Unfuckingbelievable.

[DW] Germany’s most strategically important building site is at the end of a windswept pier on the North Sea coast, where workers are assembling the country’s first terminal for the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Starting this winter, the rig, close to the port of Wilhelmshaven, will be able to supply the equivalent of 20 percent of the gas that was until recently imported from Russia.
Since its invasion of Ukraine, Moscow has throttled gas supplies to Germany, while the Nord Stream pipelines which carried huge volumes under the Baltic Sea to Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... were damaged last week in what a Danish-Swedish report called "a deliberate act." In the search for alternative sources, the German government has splashed billions on five projects like the one in Wilhelmshaven.
Altogether the new fleet should be able to handle around 25 billion cubic metres of gas per year, roughly equivalent to half the capacity of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.
NEW PLATFORM
At the site in Wilhelmshaven, the half-finished concrete platform emerging from the sea sprays workers in fluorescent yellow vests with a fine mist.
Back on solid land, a constant stream of lorries delivers sections of grey pipe, which should relay the terminal to the gas network. LNG terminals allow for the import by sea of natural gas which has been chilled and turned into a liquid to make it easier to transport.
A specialist vessel, known as an FSRU, which can stock the fuel and turn LNG back into a ready-to-use gas, is also hooked up to the platform to complete the installation.
Unlike other countries in Europe, Germany until now did not have an LNG terminal, instead relying on relatively cheap pipeline supplies from Russia. But since the invasion of Ukraine, Germany has set about weaning itself off Moscow’s gas exports, which previously represented 55 percent of its supplies. To diversify its sources, secure enough supplies of the fuel and keep its factories working, Berlin has bet massively on LNG to fill the gap left by Russian imports.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz last week signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates for the supply of LNG, while touring Gulf states in search of new sources. Renting five FSRU ships to plug into the new terminals has also set Berlin back three billion euros ($2.9 billion).
ENVIRONMENT
Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Germany passed a law to drastically speed up the approval process for LNG terminals.
In Wilhelmshaven, the work is coming along rapidly. The terminal should be finished "this winter", says Holger Kreetz, who heads the project for German energy company Uniper.
The strategic importance of the terminal has seen building work advance surprisingly quickly. "Normally, a project like this takes us five to six years," Kreetz said. The arrival of the new terminal has been welcomed by many residents in Wilhelmshaven, where deindustrialisation has pushed the unemployment rate up to 10 percent, almost twice the national average. "It’s good that it’s in Wilhelmshaven... it’ll bring jobs," Ingrid Schon, 55, said.
Opposition comes from groups who fear the accelerated timescales for approval and construction could come at a cost to the environment. Young activist muppets from the group "Ende Gelaende" managed to block the site in Wilhelmshaven for a day in August.
[AlAhram] Italian giant Eni said Monday it is ready to provide a 20-million-euro guarantee to restart deliveries of Russian gas through Austria, after a stoppage blamed on regulatory changes.
The gas delivery was suspended Saturday because Russia's Gazprom failed to provide a newly-imposed guarantee to the carrier transporting it from Austria to Italia, Eni's CEO Claudio Descalzi said.
"We are seeing if we take over" and provide the 20 million euros, he said, adding that he hoped that "the problem can be resolved this week".
"The stoppage is absolutely not due to geopolitical reasons," Descalzi said on the sidelines of a Rome conference.
Speaking about Gazprom, he added that "it is difficult to imagine that a company that wants to pay in rubles can provide guarantees in euros."
Gazprom completely suspended gas deliveries to Eni on Saturday, citing the "impossibility of gas transport through Austria" due to a new regulation that came into force on October 1.
Most of Russian gas delivered to Italia passes via Ukraine through the Trans Austria Gas Pipeline (TAG), to Tarvisio in northern Italia on the border with Austria.
Before Saturday's suspension, Italia received some 20 million cubic metres of Russian gas per day, or "about nine to 10 percent" of its gas imports, Descalzi said.
That compares to 40 percent before Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.
Outgoing Prime Minister Mario Draghi has signed new deals with other gas producers to reduce Italia's reliance on Russia, and has been racing to fill up the country's gas stores before winter.
Italia has already hit its target of filling its stores to 90 percent and is "in the process of increasing it", Ecological Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani said Sunday.
