As Sarah Kreager, 26, tried to sit down on a Baltimore City bus Tuesday, police say, a middle-schooler told her she couldnt. When she attempted to take another seat, a middle-schooler wouldnt let her. Finally, according to police, Kreager just sat down.
She was immediately attacked by nine students three females and six males from Robert Poole Middle School. They punched and kicked her at 2:59 p.m. at the intersection of 33rd Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to Maryland Transit Administration police.
Kreager was dragged off the bus and her boyfriend, Troy Ennis, attempted to get her back on, police said.
She sustained serious injuries and had to be transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to a police report. Kreager suffered two broken bones in her left eye socket, police said.
She had eye muscles that were damaged, a police report states. She had deep lacerations on the top of her head and another above her neck.
Two seats and the bus rear glass were destroyed during the attack, police said.
The bus driver on the No. 27 line quickly called police, who responded and arrested the nine juveniles, said Jawauna Greene, an MTA police spokeswoman. All nine suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Their bus tickets provided by the school have been revoked, Greene said. Riding the bus is a privilege, she said. Public safety is our primary concern.
Greene said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and she didnt know whether the attack had anything to do with the victims race. The suspects in the incident are black. The victim is white, according to the police report.
Baltimore resident David Briggs, who lives near the crime scene, said the incident underscores Baltimores pervasive crime. Now, I can't even ride the bus, he said.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharktown will get involved if the Baltimore 9 are charged with a hate crime. If a white 7 year old is charged with a hate crime for calling some people "Brown People", a term the school councilor taught him to say and not what his family taught him, then a white person beat up for being white will not be able to charge the attackers with a hate crime.
And if the boy friend fought the middle schoolers, he would have been charged with striking a child.

Sadly, the fury will probably be indiscriminate against the Blacks, and not against those that enable and encourage the sort of behavior displayed by the juveniles on the bus.
And yes, Troy should have put a beat down on as many of those little animals as he could. I know if anyone messed with my wife like that, it would be all over with.

Up here, we had this last Sunday...
A Boston firefighter is mending from what could have been deadly stab wounds he suffered early yesterday morning when he was allegedly jumped in East Boston while off duty by a group of Hispanic males who told him they dont want any gringo here.
Though police are not classifying the incident as racially fueled, the Boston Police Departments Community Disorders Unit is investigating. The 32-year-old jake, whose name officials were not releasing, is white.
Ironically, the firefighters life was likely saved because he sought refuge from his alleged assailants at Engine 5 on Saratoga Street - the station house hes assigned to.Fortunately, those firefighters were not out on a call, said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald.
MacDonald said the firefighter had gone to Chivas Restaurant in Day Square to grab takeout when six guys started exchanging words with him. He indicated he was just there to get a sandwich and that he was a firefighter. They pushed him.
Hoping to avoid a confrontation, MacDonald said the firefighter got into his car and headed for his station for safetys sake, but the pack followed him on foot. It was shortly before 2:45 a.m. As soon as he got out of his car, six guys jumped him and started kicking and punching him, MacDonald said. He felt two sharp pains in his chest and knew he had been stabbed.
The firefighter summoned the help of fellow jakes by ringing the station doorbell and his alleged attackers fled. MacDonald said his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Hes more upset about the fact that hes going to miss several shifts, MacDonald said.
Not a word from the city. Their opinion would probably be that it's the gringo's fault. For going where he wasn't wanted...

Treat them as adults in the court system. I don't care if she used the N word or not (I doubt it when surrounded). This is aggravated assault and the aggressors should be taken out of society before they kill someone and until they learn to behave like civilized people.

Kreager could not be reached for comment. Court records show Kreager is awaiting trial on drug-related charges.
Doesn't appear as though we are dealing with Mother Teresa here. She could very well be some nasty crack whore who was throwing around the n-word. Need more time to get the facts.

Michelle Malkin is all over this... An elderly man and the black bus driver were also assulted. Police are calling it a Hate Crime.

He probably saved this gentlemans life, Marzola said of the operator. The MTA declined to identify the driver, saying they consider him a witness to a crime.
Police said no evidence had been found to back up the claims of suspects parents that Kreager or Ellis had provoked the incident by spitting or displaying a knife.
Greene said that at the time the incident reports were taken, no child reported any spitting or knife being pulled. Gavrilis said the operator hadnt mentioned any provocation.

I don't care if she is a crack whore and called everybody on the bus a n*gger. I remember once in kindergarten (& over subsequent years at many martial arts and self-def training sessions) somebody told me that "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." Time for a lot of people of all backgrounds to re-learn that stoicism.

Crystal Drive is one of those suburban streets that seem so new as to have no history at all. But the suicide of a teenage girl and allegations she had been tormented by a neighbor over the Internet have brought a reaction that is old, almost tribal, in its nature.
Residents of the middle-class subdivision have turned against the neighbor, Lori Drew, and her family, demanding the Drews move out. In interviews, they have warned darkly that someone might be tempted to "take matters into their own hands."
"It's like they used to do in the 1700s and 1800s. If you wronged a community, you were basically shunned. That's basically what happened to her," said Trever Buckles, a 40-year-old who lives next door to the Drews.

It sounds like the daughter and "Ashley" were the ones doing the deed. That doesn't excuse the mother but it sounds like she is getting all the blame for the actions of others.. The mother "enabled" but did not execute action.
These girls are an example of why the Indians gave prisoners to the women for torture.

This was on one of the many talk shows - the mom actually invented the "josh" character and was emailing the the other girl. Apparently the Drew girl and Megan Meier had been friends and then had a falling out. Then Mrs. Drew got involved and along w/her daughter led Megan to believe "josh" was very interested in her - this went on a couple months and then "josh" told Megan he heard she was a slut or very fat or some such and broke off their cyber courting. I guess the Meier girl had a history of depression or some such. The Drews have not been charged w/anything as there is nothing under the state of MO. statute entailing these types of situations - so the police can't do anything - hence, the community is apparently going after them in their own way.

The author of this piece needs to look up the definitions of shunning and harassing. It doesn't appear that the community is deliberately staying away from Drews.

This crazy drama is playing out a few miles away, and, just as Broadhead6 implied, since the law won't do anything, the people are stepping up.
While we don't usually think of it this way, the rule of law protects not just the innocent from the state, but the guilty from their outraged neighbors. These perps fell through cracks in the law and so are getting street justice instead.

Writer Aleza Goldsmith (Jewish News Weekly) wrote on September 21, 2001, "During his program on Wednesday, Sept. 12 -- the day after the terror attacks -- Ward compared the tactics of religious fundamentalists to those used by Nazis. Fundamentalists, he said, included 'the ultra-Orthodox' in Israel." He also alleges that the beliefs of Muslim, Jewish and Christian Fundamentalists are similarly dangerous in character.
Ward has also has made controversial comments regarding the Catholic Church. On March 16, 1996, Ward charged that the "right wing fascist" who ran the Catholic Church during the Vietnam war did not allow opposition to the war.
On March 24, 2006, Ward criticized the confrontational antics of the gay group ACT-UP. Ward was upset with the recent invasion of a mosque, but justified the 1989 invasion of a Catholic church (St. Patrick's Cathedral). According to The Catalyst, Ward said that "homosexuals had a good case to make (against the Catholic Church). He explained his answer by arguing that the Church 'has encouraged homophobia and homophobic actions.' He even went so far as to say that the Roman Catholic Church 'is encouraging people to be violent against gays, that is justifying the violence against gays, and that is taking a position that will spread a fatal disease, then you can understand why people would be upset by that and would consider the need to do some kind of form of public protest'."

Ah, there ya go. "Research"! I knew he had a good reason. And when he was done, I'll bet he was gonna help the cops do one of those internet stings too, right?
Every journalist knows that if you're going to do this kind of research, or any kind that involves something that could be construed as criminal activity, you need to get legal advice and the cooperation of law enforcement in advance. If your project is legitimate, and not too much trouble for them, the cops will usually go along with it.

A CYPRIOT woman was jailed for 20 days today after being found guilty of practicing sorcery using a pair of underpants and raw eggs to break a "lethal curse".
The court said the 69-year-old woman tried to convince her male victim that a death wish had been placed upon him and that payment of 5,000 Cypriot pounds ($A14,570) would help her break the deadly spell. Apart from a cash down payment, the man was requested to bring a spoon, one egg, a plate, a urine sample and a pair of underpants.
"Once 500 pounds exchanged hands, some kind of ceremony took place using the specific objects mentioned," the court ruling said. "According to the plaintiff, at the end of it, hairs wrapped around a nail were found inside an egg to prove a spell had been cast against him."
The woman then demanded 5,000 pounds, saying the man would die in his sleep within 22 days if the spell, supposedly cast on him by his mother-in-law and estranged wife, were not lifted. "It was then the plaintiff was rudely awakened and realised he was being made a fool of and filed a complaint to police," the ruling said.

The hapless inhabitants of Fjuckby have lost the last chance they had of changing the name of their village to something less suggestive of sexual intercourse. On Thursday, the National Land Survey of Sweden - the government agency responsible for the handling of place names - announced that it was following the recommendation of the Institute of Language and Folklore to preserve the name Fjuckby.
A delegation of residents applied in December of last year to have the old name Fjukeby reinstated, a variant in common usage until the 1930s. "There should not be any doubt at all that, as a result of relatively new associations, the pronunciation and spelling of the place name 'Fjuckby', today arouses ridicule, teasing and hilarity from members of the general public," wrote inhabitant Katriina Flensburg on behalf of her fellow villagers.
Fjuckby is saddled with the dual misfortune of containing both the rude Swedish word 'juck' and its more internationally recognizable English equivalent. Speaking to The Local in February, Flensburg said she was surprised by the folklore institute's resistance to a name change since the alternative, Fjukeby, was "pretty and nice". Fjuckby and Fjukeby both translate roughly as 'Windy Village'.
A posh food store in New York's Greenwich Village has found itself red faced after offering hams for sale with the slogan "Delicious for Hanukkah," the current Jewish religious holiday. The non-kosher labelling was spotted at the weekend by Manhattan novelist Nancy Kay Shapiro, 46, who decided instead of alerting management to take a picture of the unorthodox sign and post it on the Internet. "I just thought it was funny," Shapiro, who described herself as an unobservant Jew, told the New York Post. "I wasn't offended in any way. I just thought, here's somebody who knows nothing about what Jews eat."
By the time Shapiro returned to the store on Tuesday, the first night of Hanukkah, the signs had vanished, the newspaper reported. A manager at the Balducci's gourmet grocery store told the newspaper that the sign was a mistake and blamed it on a stock clerk.

The father of a Chinese man who died from the H5N1 strain of bird flu last week has also been diagnosed with the disease, authorities said on Friday. The National Disease Authority has confirmed that a 52-year-old man surnamed Lu from the Nanjing, capital of the eastern province Jiangsu, was feverish with the H5N1 strain on Thursday, the Ministry of Health reported on its Web site (www.moh.gov.cn).
This latest case raises troublesome questions about how the man was infected. Humans can contract H5N1 from close contact with infected birds, but scientists fear the disease could mutate into a version that spreads from person-to-person, risking wider outbreaks or even a global pandemic.
Lu's son died on Sunday from the same disease, making the question of how these two infections occurred especially important.
The Xinhua news agency had earlier reported that the son had had no contact with dead poultry and there had been no reported poultry outbreak in the province. The latest report did not say whether contact with infected poultry had been confirmed in either of the infections.
With the world's biggest poultry population and millions of backyard birds roaming free, China is at the centre of the fight against bird flu.
This latest case brings the number of confirmed human infections of bird flu in China to 27. The Ministry of Health said the World Health Organisation had been notified of this latest case.

The incubation period for avian flu still isn't known. Somewhere between 2 and 17 days. However, if there is another outbreak in that province within that time, not traced to a bird, there is a good chance that Mr. Lu, Sr., may indeed be patient zero.
From that point, a pandemic is just a matter of about a dozen more incubation periods. Each outbreak will reflect two incubation cycles before it, which means that its geographical range may have doubled twice in that time.

There is some good news, however. Just a day or two ago they announced the discovery of the optimum air transfer of influenza: cold and dry.
Optimally, 41F and below 20% humidity. At higher temperatures and humidities, influenza is increasingly limited to contact contamination. At room temperature and 80% humidity, there is almost zero air transfer.
This also means that disease spread can be limited with higher temperatures and humidities in closed environments. Influenza wards should be kept warm and humid instead of cool and dry.

A Pakistani-American is in big trouble with the law after his son informed the police that his father carried credit cards that did not bear his name. Saarum Sodagar, 22, of Chicago went to the police after his father, Afzal Sodagar, threatened to kill him following an argument. He said later, I wanted (police) to catch him red-handed. Police noticed several thick envelopes stuffed with $100 bills, as well as many credit cards in a briefcase during a search of his home. They returned with a warrant and confiscated a room full of evidence.
Sodagar did not work and had been abusive to his family in the past, his son said. He has portrayed himself as CEO of Eye-TV and as a contact for two prominent Chicago Muslim groups. Officials at the Muslim Community Centre told the Chicago Trinbune that Sodagar was a volunteer but had no corporate responsibilities.

The specific location of what Ms. Tauyan calls the "sacred relics" is a closely guarded secret. The Navy will acknowledge for the record only that sections of the Arizona are on Waipio Peninsula, strictly off limits to the public and safely guarded in a storage area on a military reservation, but it granted access for this article to further tell the story of the famed battleship and its continuing contribution today. . . .

I saw this wreckage on a National Geographic special the other night. If they plan on doing anything with it they better hustle it up as it's rusting away and falling apart.
It was powerful enough just seeing it on TV. I can only what it's like to see it for real.

A visit to the memorial is well worht the time; i have been a coule of times and it is always a heart-wrenching event.
I also have a flag that has been flown over the Arizona and it someday will be handed down to my son.

...What is kind of interesting is that until the early 90s the USN denied any of that material was even there, though there were some excellent pictures of it available. Now questions are being asked about any remains from the battleships Oklahoma, West Virginia, California and Utah, all of which were sunk at Pearl and had large chunks removed to facilitate salvage efforts.

Here on Guam, I think it would be great iff the local National Park Service - WAR IN THE PACIFIC NATIONAL PARK would create replicas of ships based on Guam before WW2, or present on Guam on December 8-10, 1941 during the post-Pearl Japanese attack on Guam, and to include WW1. *E.g. USS PENGUIN gunboat, USS SUPPLY, USS YOSEMITE, German ship CORMORAN/KORMORAN [WW1]. Pehaps even models of Guam's pre-war OROTE PENINSULA including the CLIPPER LANDING + PAN AMERICAN HOTEL, + NAME OF LOCALS WHOM WERE ON WAKE, MIDWAY, etc. AIR REPLICAS/ORIGINALS? > include US-Japn. fighter-attack and ideally a B29.
Iff I were working for the Guam NPS. I would be recomm these + related/other to my higher-ups becuz Guam's younger generations need to know what their elders went thru - moreso iff Guam hopes to attract more tourism.

The Battle Of Niihau
Sunday, December 7, 1941, was like any other Sunday on Niihau (Nee-ee-hau), the oldest and farthest northwest of the major Hawaiian islands. Niihau had no radios then. Even if they had had them, the English-language broadcasts from Oahu would have been meaningless to most Niihauans, who spoke Hawaiian, not English. Niihau's owners the Robinsons, made weekly visits by sampan from Kauai. It was Niihau's only connection with the outside world. And after the Japanese attack, the Army forbade the weekly sampan visit -- all of which was unknown to the isolated Niihauans.
One Japanese plane, damaged and unable to return to its carrier, landed in a plowed field on Niihau. The pilot gave his papers to a Niihauan, Hawila Kaleohano --in effect surrendering. And then it seemed, there was nothing else to do except to wait for the sampan to come. A week passed. No sampan. No news.
The pilot went on the offensive. There were two other Japanese people on Niihau. The pilot appealed to their patriotism, sure that they would help him. One refused, the other, Yoshio Harada, agreed and helped the pilot take the machine guns from the crippled plane so the guns could be used to control the island. But he never got to use the guns because Benehakaka ("Benny") Kanahele stole the guns' ammunition, rendering them useless.
Now the pilot wanted his papers back, but Hawila Kaleohano had disappeared with them. So the pilot burned down his house, took Benny Kanahele and his wife hostage, and sent Benny to look for Hawila. When Benny returned without Hawila, the pilot tried to shoot Benny and his wife. Benny, then fifty-one, jumped the pilot, taking three bullets in the stomach as he seized the pilot and dashed his brains out against a stone wall. Yoshio Harada shot himself. The Battle of Niihau was over.
The indestructible Benny Kanahele became one of Hawaii's heroes. Many years later, our friend Dan Masaki, then a kid, worked in a grocery store with Benny. He remembers Benny as a cheerful, hardworking, massive man with a huge bald head and huge hands. Benny would say of the Battle Of Niihau, "When he shot me the second time, I got really angry!" And then he got even.

Roughly/Broadly speaking, in case of war agz Japan. the US plan was for MacArthur to hold out in the Philippines while awaiting the arrival of the US fleet and air forces. Japan destroyed this scenario by attacking Pearl Harbor, i.e. sinking the US fleet first.
