"Bottom" story of the day -- literally!
Police say woman pinned boyfriend to wall with buttocks

A Nitro woman was arrested for allegedly fighting with her boyfriend and keeping him against his will. Constance Ann Hertel, 48, of Kanawha Avenue, had been arguing with her boyfriend for several hours Friday, and when the man tried to leave she wouldn't let him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

According to the complaint, when the man tried to pack his belongings, Hertel came into his bedroom and threw a screwdriver at him, hitting him in the back. She also struck him in the torso with a plastic cup, the complaint said.
Gee, that must have hurt. Hrrrrmph.
Nitro Police Patrolman T.A. Fouch said in the report that Hertel then pinned the man against the wall with her buttocks, and as he tried to free himself, she grabbed him around the head and scratched him across the chest.

She was charged with domestic battery.
Shouldn't that be "domestic butt-ery"?

Mafia museum to open in Vegas
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas is building a museum about some of its founding fathers and most influential figures — guys with names like Bugsy, Lefty and Lansky.

The mob museum will stand as frank acknowledgment of the major role mobsters played in developing Las Vegas into the gambling capital of America and giving the city its rakish glamour during the 1940s and '50s.

"Let's be brutally honest, warts and all. This is more than legend. It's fact," said Mayor Oscar Goodman, a former defense attorney whose clients once included mobsters Meyer Lansky and Anthony "Tony the Ant" Spilotro. "This is something that differentiates us from other cities."

The project has gained the support of the FBI and is guided by a retired FBI agent. They say they are involved because you can't tell the stories of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, his banker, Lansky, casino boss Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal and others without telling the story of the lawmen who pursued them.

"This is a way to connect with the public and show the results of our work," said Dan McCarron, a spokesman for the FBI in Washington. . . .

Just remember: what happens in the museum stays in the museum.

#3  The Mafias, etc were weakened vv RICO Act which gener put the burden on personages to prove they were NOT mafiosi nor engaged in illegal or criminal acts, RICO also gave the Feds, etc. wider powers + longer lead times to investigate and confiscate any and all assets, direct or indirect, used in mafia activities = being investigated for mafia activties. It doesn't matter anymore under RICO how many times an asset is legally or deceptively sold or resold to avoid investigation = prosecution - RICO gives the Feds authority to confiscate it anyway. "I HAVE A LAWYER(S)" may no longer matter becuz, broadly-speaking, RICO > the Feds may assume that one's attorneys are part of the mafia activity, and not just a narrow-scope legal defender. THE FEDS EXPECT MAFIOSI, ETC. TO DO ANYTHING, EVERYTHING TO PROTECT THEMSELVES LEGALLY = USE LEGAL COVER.

Lastly, it didn't help the Mafias that the younger generations seemingly don't have the patience, extensive networks, personal and other group skills or protective "ethics" that their predecessors did, i.e. prefer to betray, destroy, or otherwise sell each other out than work together or protect each other???

THE MSM, POLS, AND ACTIVISTS, INCLUDING MANY LEFTIES, WILL PC RAIL IN ANGER AT ELEX TIME AGZ RICO IN THE NAME OF NATURAL/CIVIL RIGHTS BUT IN REALITY DO LITTLE OR ANYTHING TO STOP IT. Iff anything, RICO and related legislations have been EMPOWERED, NOT WEAKENED.

Man Dressed as Robot Heckles Bill Clinton. Then it Gets Weird....
OWA CITY -- Former Presidents are used to hecklers, but a robot? Bill Clinton was speaking in Iowa City Monday when a man dressed in a silver metallic suit made a scene.
"Gort! Klaatu barada nicto!"
The protester said he wanted Clinton to apologize for a comment he made in 1992 about a rapper named Sister Souljah and then threw colored cards of color into the air. As the protester was being escorted out of the room,
"Don't tase me, bro!"
Clinton told him he needed to find a more environmentally-friendly way to protest.
Bill clearly got the best of that exchange.

2 hurt in Las Vegas bus shooting
Two students were critically injured and four others hurt when they came under fire as they left a school bus in Las Vegas, US police say. The six were all either middle or high school students and were shot just before 1400 (2200 GMT), the Associated Press news agency reports. At least two people are believed to have taken part in the shootings, a police officer said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Dummy of the Day submission
BERLIN - A man nearly died from alcohol poisoning after quaffing two pints of vodka at an airport security check instead of handing it over to comply with new rules about carrying liquids aboard a plane, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred Tuesday at the Nuremberg airport, where the 64-year-old man was switching planes on his way home to Dresden from a vacation in Egypt. New airport rules prohibit passengers from carrying larger quantities of liquid onto planes, and he was told at a security check he would have to either throw out the bottle of vodka or pay a fee to have his carry-on bag checked. Instead, he chugged the vodka — and was quickly unable to stand or otherwise function, police said.

A doctor called to the scene determined he had possibly life-threatening alcohol poisoning, and he was sent to a Nuremberg clinic for treatment. The man, whose name was not released, is expected to be able to go home in a few days.

Great moments in Human Resources #26
A soon-to-be former AOL employee confirms the rumors of mid-December layoff. The holidays are always an embarrassing time to let employees go, but what's worse is the way management delivered the bad news. Our source tells us that "when the brain trusts sent out the holiday party email they only sent it to people who would still be here -- even though some of us hadn't been notified we were on the block yet." Dear employee, you're not invited to continue working at the company. Yours cordially

#3  Geez, laying off people at Christmas....

A couple of jobs ago, I (along with several others) had a job that was going to be eliminated at the end of the budget year. Upper management decided this around May or June - just a cost-savings measure, nothing personal.

Of course, the end of the budget year was also the end of the year - and they intended to wait until December to tell us. Two problems with that: One was the middle managers told them that since they'd already made the decision, it was rotten of them not to tell us right away so we could look for other jobs within the company, and if upper management didn't tell us soon, middle management would.

The other problem, which they didn't know about, was we already knew about it (one of our group had a friend in the right place). So I started planning long before I was officially told (they looked truly puzzled that I wasn't upset when they did tell me - in August).

I can't tell you how grateful I was not to be able to find a job within the company. :-D

We got a severance package, of course, which helped, and there were some lean years ahead, but the free-lance work I did in the ensuing years eventually helped me land my present job - which I LOVE.

So it can be a blessing - or a curse - depending on your attitude and your skills. I wish the AOL layoff-ees the best.

#4  Lucky for you, Barb! (Waves across the room - how's the industrial-capacity popcorn-popper holding up!)
I had one company close, out from under me, but I was a trusted employee and knew right away. Closed the books, cleaned out the office, worked from home at 3/4th pay to meet the client obligations. The CEO did define "until August" to mean the first of the month, whereas I am sure he had originally said until the end of the month, but no biggie. The next place I worked for full-time, the usual warning of a case of unemployment was an abrupt and mysterious change in the combination to the employee enterance.

I have had friends who had places of employment fold between one day and the next and owing several weeks of pay to legitimatly surprised employees, so in the grand scheme of things, AOL is a couple of steps up.

Thank god for a military pension...

After a Window Washer’s 47-Floor Plunge, the Big Question Is: How Did He Survive?
By JAMES BARRON and AL BAKER
A 29-year-old man plunges 17 stories in the atrium of a hotel in Minneapolis, landing on an overhang.

A 22-year-old amateur sky diver goes into free fall more than a mile above the earth when his main parachute and reserve chute fail to open. He lands in a three-foot-deep duck pond.

#9  There are lots of variables to falling. The most important is if it is a free fall, or if your way down in blocked en route, bouncing off of things, and slowing you down.

The next most important thing is what you land on, as a tree or bush could act like a spring and absorb a lot of momentum.

After that, is your position when you hit. There is a group of natives that regularly jump off of high waterfalls to land in only a foot or so of water. While falling, they look like they are praying, with their knees bent under themselves and their toes pointed down, with their hands together in front of them.

They discovered that this posture is the best way of absorbing impact in those circumstances, without injury or with minimal injury.

However, in other circumstances, landing spread eagled, face first, might result in *least* injury, though you will be injured, and *least* possibility of lethal internal injuries. But you will often have a broken nose, jaw, ribs, hips, knees and feet. But alive.

Parachutists have noted the rather gruesome bit that when someone free falls from a high aircraft, often on the first bounce they momentarily look okay, even though they are thoroughly busted up inside, then with the second bounce, their body flies apart.

#14  It is important to remember the tale of the man named "Tougher than Airborne". He was going through the Airborne school at Ft. Benning, when he had both a primary and reserve chute failure. Everybody saw him plummet to Earth, and all the black hat instructors and emergency personnel went out to where he had landed.

He actually left most of a full body indentation in the ground, and as they reached him, he rolled over onto his back. Blood was running out both nostrils. He opened his eyes and said to them:

"If this Airborne shit gets any harder, I don't think I'm going to make it." Then he passed out.

He woke up wearing his wings, and for the rest of his military career was immortalized as "Tougher than Airborne".

#15  "Blood on the Risers"

He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright
He checked all his equipment and made sure his pack was tight;
He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar,
"You ain't gonna jump no more!"
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!
"Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant looking up,
Our Hero feebly answered "Yes," and then they stood him up;''
He jumped into the icy blast, his static line unhooked,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock,
He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the awful drop,
The silk from his reserve spilled out and wrapped around his legs,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
The risers swung around his neck, connectors cracked his dome,
Suspension lines were tied in knots around his skinny bones;
The canopy became his shroud; he hurtled to the ground.
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind,
He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind;
He thought about the medicos and wondered what they'd find,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
The ambulance was on the spot, the jeeps were running wild,
The medics jumped and screamed with glee, rolled up their sleeves and smiled,
For it had been a week or more since last a 'chute had failed,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
He hit the ground, the sound was "Splatt," his blood went spurting high,
His comrades then were heard to say: "A helluva way to die!"
He lay there rolling round in the welter of his gore,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
There was blood upon the risers, there were brains upon the chute,
Intestines were a'dangling from his Paratrooper suit,
He was a mess; they picked him up, and poured him from his boots,
And he ain't gonna jump no more
(CHORUS — slowly, solemnly)
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
Gory, gory, what a helluva way to die,
He ain't gonna jump no more!

Blasphemy convict acquitted by LHC
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday acquitted a blasphemy convict, Muhammad Sharif, and observed that the police should not register such cases without checking veracity of the facts. The LHC accepted Sharif’s appeal against his conviction and acquitted him from the charge. On June 23, 2005, an additional sessions judge had sentenced Sharif to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50,000. The LHC stated that the legal requirements of lodging such a case had not been fulfilled and the prosecution had also failed to prove the allegation. The Gujranwala police had lodged a case against Sharif for allegedly uttering derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
