-Lurid Crime Tales-
Canadian Islamic cockroach Father Murders Daughter
TORONTO - A Mississauga, Ont. man will be formally charged on Tuesday with murder in connection with the death of his 16-year-old daughter.

The girl, Aqsa Parvez, was in critical condition on Monday after being strangled, apparently after a dispute with her family over her refusal to wear the hijab, the Islamic headscarf worn by some Muslim women.

However Peel Regional Police said Tuesday the girl died late Monday night.

Police arrested the victim's 57-year-old father, Muhammad Parvez on Monday morning after receiving a 911 call from a Mississauga home from a man saying he had killed his daughter. He is due to appear on Tuesday in a Brampton, Ont. court.

The victim's 26-year-old brother, Waqas Parvez, was also charged with obstructing police.

Friends of the teenager, a Grade 11 student at Applewood Heights high school, said Monday they were shocked by the attack on the outgoing, likeable girl, but said she had been threatened by her strictly religious family before.

Ebonie Mitchell, 16, a friend of the victim, said the conflict with her father over wearing Islamic dress came to a head at the beginning of this school year. "She just wanted to dress like we do," she said. "Last year, she wore like the Islamic stuff and everything, the hijab, and this year she's all western. She just wanted to look like everyone else."

Woman Church Security Gaurd who "took down" the Gunman
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Jeanne Assam appeared before the news media for the first time Monday and said she "did not think for a minute to run away" when a gunman entered the New Life Church in Colorado Springs and started shooting. There was applause as Assam spoke to reporters and TV cameras saying, "God guided me and protected me."

New Life's Senior Pastor Brady Boyd called Assam "a real hero" because Murray "had enough ammunition on him to cause a lot of damage."

When asked by a reporter if she felt like a hero, Assam said, "I wasn't just going to wait for him to do further damage."

"I give credit to God," she said.

Assam described how the gunman, Matthew Murray, entered the east entrance of the church firing his rifle. "There was chaos," Assam said, as parishioners ran away, "I will never forget the gunshots. They were so loud."

"I saw him coming through the doors" and took cover, Assam said. "I came out of cover and identified myself and engaged him and took him down."

#1  It remains to be seen if Assam's weapon fired the fatal shots. A unarmed male vet attempted to confront the gunman, but was shot for his trouble. Two armed male security guards did not use their weapons.
Posted by: Anguper Hupomosing9418 || 12/11/2007 0:41 Comments || Top||

#2  I heard an unarmed male vet pleaded with one of the guards to give him his gun because he was a vet so he could take the a$$hole out. The only response he got was "Get behind me!". The vet had to give up and ended up insulting the guy to draw his fire while the gal got into position to take care of the aforementioned a$$hole (whose name I shall never utter or seek out) in a way that saved a whole lot of people a whole lot of wasted time and money.

I wonder if this vet is the same one who got shot.

While it is nice to act as a human shield, it is not any kind of solution. It would have been nicer if he had been willing to use his weapon as he was obligated to do being a security guard and all, or at least have the sense to give the vet his gun.

Anybody know why someone would be trained and certified as the kind of guard that carries a weapon and yet not be at least able to draw that weapon? It seems like at least two of these folks had never even addressed the basic issues of what it meant to be entrusted with a weapon and told to protect those around them. You'd think that for a large part only combat experienced vets would hold this kind of job these days, or people who had been through live-fire training and at least had a rough idea which end was up! Any ideas?

The name Assam sounds Muslim. Is she?

#4  Dude, she was a member of a fundamentalist Christian church who was so involved in her congregation that she went to early services then volunteered to work security for the later services. Prolly not a muslim.

The good news was that there were multiple armed parishioners there. Thank God. A lesson was learned from VA Tech, where there were no guns but those brought in by the twisted asshole murderer.

#5  If she is, does that change anything?

Not for the folks at the church, either way.

But reading stories where Muslims do good deeds makes me feel more optimistic about individual muslims and resultantly less pessimistic/negative about Islam.

#6  The good news was that there were multiple armed parishioners there.

It's good they were there, but did they contribute to taking the guy out? I don't know. I suspect they didn't because the hired guard did all that. I suspect that had she not been there, then they may have well been the salvation of quite a few more people because the guy had all kinds of weapons and ammo. I don't know if he had them on him or not, but I heard he shot up the parking lot pretty good before entering the church.

#11  Don't know about the law in Colorado or how the courts in the Springs would rule vs. the state courts.

IIUC Assam has some law enforcement background. Her actions suggest it. One difference between LE and military training is that the former stresses avoiding collateral casualties more strongly than the latter. Assam showed cool and professional discipline in her choice of place and line of fire.

#12  OK, backgroun on Assam:

She worked in law enforcement in the 1990s in North Michigan. She is licensed to carry a concealed weapon. She actually put in place the security plan for the church.

As for the law:

Fourth Judicial District Attorney John Newsome, in a statement released Monday, said that Assam’s actions appeared to “not only be appropriate, but also justified under Colorado law.”

I don't know about her ethnic background, but she doesn't look Middle Eastern. Maybe Greek.

#13  "The name Assam sounds Muslim. Is she?"

The security guard is not Muslim. She mentioned being guided by God and the Holy Spirit therefore she believes in the Trinity, which Muslims do not recognize. She is a solid "old school" Christian. She is employed by an Evangelical Christian organization.

#16  from the Denver Post:

Larry Bourbonnais, a combat-tested Vietnam veteran, said it was the bravest thing he's ever seen.

Bourbonnais, who was among those shot by a gunman Sunday at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, watched as a security guard, later identified as Jeanne Assam, calmly returned fire and killed the shooter.

"She just started walking toward the gunman, firing the whole way," said Bourbonnais, who was shot in the arm. "She was just yelling 'Surrender!' walking and shooting the whole time."

Bourbonnais, 59, had just finished a hamburger in the cafeteria on the sprawling church campus when he heard gunfire, he recalled.

He headed in the direction of the shots as frightened people ran past him looking to escape to safety.

"Where's the shooter? Where's the shooter?" Bourbonnais kept yelling, he recalled.

Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman and an armed male church security guard, who was there with his gun drawn but not firing, he said.

Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his weapon. "Give me your handgun. I've been in combat, and I'm going to take this guy out," Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard.

"He kept yelling, 'Get behind me! Get behind me!' He wouldn't hand me his weapon, but he wouldn't do anything."

There was an additional armed security guard there, another man, who also didn't fire, Bourbonnais said.

Bourbonnais yelled at the gunman to draw his attention, he said.

"First, I called him 'Coward,' then I called him 'S—head' " Bourbonnais said. "I probably shouldn't have been saying that in church."

That's when the shooter pointed one of his guns at Bourbonnais and fired, he said. Bourbonnais ducked behind a hollow, decorative pillar and was hit in the arm by a bullet and fragments of the pillar.

At about that moment, Assam, 42, turned a corner with a drawn handgun, walked toward the gunman and yelled "Surrender!" Bourbonnais said.

The gunman pointed a handgun at Assam and fired three shots, Bourbonnais said. She returned fire and just kept walking toward the gunman, pressing off round after round.

After the gunman went down, Bourbonnais asked Assam, a volunteer security guard with the church, how she remained so calm and focused.

Bourbonnais said she replied: "I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time."

#17  "I'm coming for EVERYONE soon and I WILL be armed to the @#%$ teeth and I WILL shoot to kill.

"Feel no remorse, no sense of shame, I don't care if I live or die in the shoot-out. All I want to do is kill and injure as many of you as I can especially Christians who are to blame for most of the problems in the world."
Murray's posting at a web site Sunday morning between the time he had killed two people at a Missionary Campus and when he attacked New Life Church later that same morning. Same wording as was used by Harris, one of the shooters at Columbine, except that Christians was exchanged for the intended victims of the shooter.

Murray placed smoke canisters at two of the three entrances to the New Life complex (the South and North entrance) to trap the congregation in the complex, then proceeded to the third and final entrance, the East entrance, where he shot several people near the entrance, entered and was taken down by Jeanne Assam after she saw the smoke canisters and saw him enter. They were both going towards each other firing at each other down a long corridor. He fired three shots at Jeanne and missed all three times, her shots were on target.

This is the link to a graphic of events at New Life Church.

Jeanne Assam? Jeanne D'Arc! Bravo!

Posted by: Ptah || 12/11/2007 12:51 Comments || Top||

#24  Well, if Assam is a volunteer, she is technically not a security guard. She is a citizen with a concealed carry permit. Of course the MSM will not bring that up.

It sounds like she did all the right things. First she went for cover, then she acquired her target, making sure that she did not send stray bullets into innocents. Then she kept up a train of disciplined fire until the threat was eliminated. She fought like she trained, and that saved her and many other parisioners. Pretty inspiring.

#25  Since Ms. Assam is (a) an American (b) who had a gun and (c) who used a gun to shoot somebody and then (d) spoke on TV about -- oh no!-- her religious faith, I expected to see the European press torque itself like a pretzel today, but a quick look doesn't show anything. Maybe Der Spiegel hasn't gotten the word, or maybe they make an exception for good shots.

#26  New updates state that while the perp was wounded by Assam, he saved us taxpayers a lot of cash and bother with a self-administered coup de grace.

I'm pleased to hear that. Assam certainly had her act together and seems to have accepted that she did the right thing given the circumstances, but she can also breathe a little easier knowing it wasn't her bullets that finished the job. After all, few people want a death on their conscience, no matter how badly the P.O.S. deserved it.
Posted by: Dar || 12/11/2007 15:06 Comments || Top||

#27  Indeed, her shots hit the shooter and then the shooter inflicted the mortal shot to himself.

Mineapolas Police say that Assam was fired for lying to internal investigators about cussing out a bus driver during a response involving an incident on the bus. That is interesting, I hear transit cops in my city cussing out unruly riders all the time when they are called to a situation now a days. They don't get fired.

#8  The Jewish sages note that the word “ratsakh” applies only to illegal killing (e.g., premeditated murder or manslaughter) — and was never used in the administration of justice or for killing in war. Hence the KJV translation as “thou shalt not kill” is too broad.

Note that it does not have any conection to animals, which were ritually slaughtered as ablution for God.

#1  The levels of lead are not to be taken lightly this article suggests.

For heavens sake, it's from CNN. MSM is in the business of generating crisis and fear otherwise who'd pay attention to them. That doesn't imply NOT taking reasonable precautions but this is just degenerating to the level of irrational panic. It's a repeat of the 70's when every week, the every day the news media trumpeted another 'agent' responsible for causing cancer in lab rats, even though the rats were feed or injected with amounts that no human [heck, no city of humans] consumed in years or that the 'experiment' was to induce cancer rather to see what happens in natural environments/populations. The madness went on till some Colorado researchers duplicated the experiments using small bits of coins and bills. Getting the same results, they pressed for the same protocol to be employed to recall all currancy from circulation. That put a break on the circus.

Hell, people die of water poisoning. Let's recall water. Or let us understand, life is about trade offs and there are a lot that are conceptually scary but practically are really insignificant. Just think about natural gas being pumped into your house. Some do go 'boom' every year, but it is extremely rare. We do a rational trade off. Let's get back to that.

#7  Ice, lead's cheap, does the trick (preventing the plastic wire coating from degradation--there are other methods but the keyword here is cheap/i>). As Gorb says, Beat the kids if they get near them. or show 'em the washroom door.
Posted by: twobyfour || 12/11/2007 18:32 Comments || Top||

#8  Procopius: Personally, I never even thought there was any kind of panic or breathlessness in the article. CNN reported, people read, and now they keep their kids away from an unnecessary source of lead. Simple, orderly, effective. Seems good to me! I can't imagine a significantly better way to do this.

Water poisoning and lead poisoning are two different things. Water poisoning will kill you or it won't. Lead poisoning erodes your brain. And it stays that way permanently. How much and what your child loses only God knows. But I do know if I keep them away from products that contain lead, they don't stand the increased risk. If such a simple action as keeping your kid away from electrical cords can save your kids five points on their IQ score, would you do it? How about one point? Would it be the straw that breaks the camels back and tips your kid over the brink into the autistic spectrum? Hmm. It's easy to manage so it's a tragedy if you don't. Did you benefit from your parents' knowledge that lead-based cold remedies are not good for kids (or even adults, for that matter)? Car exhaust? Diesel exhaust? Mercury or TCE exposure? PCBs? A zillion other things they were made aware of through mass media and they weren't even aware of it? What if you had all of these bombs dropped on you? And there are certainly a lot more today in the plastics we have for starters. Gotta start somewhere.

And no, the folks at CNN are not sitting around a conference table trying to drum up things like lead poisoning to panic about. Instead, they are trying to get Hillary elected so they can rule the world! :-)

Now that I think about it, it's contradictory. Wouldn't CNN want to keep quiet about this so that more people would get all kinds of lead poisoning so their brain function was diminished to the point that they could get the Dems into power? Hmm . . . .

Britain
Death threats can’t stop me being a Christian, says imam’s daughter
An imam’s daughter whose family threatened to kill her after she converted to Christianity at the age of 16 has told The Times that, because of her faith, she is not afraid to die.

But Hannah, now 32, has been forced to live under police protection for the past month since her brother told her that he could not be responsible for his actions if she did not return to Islam. Hannah, who hopes to marry a fellow Christian next year, uses a pseudonym and has moved house 45 times since her conversion.

She said: “Yes, there is a possibility I will be killed, just as there is for anyone that they can get run over by a bus. My faith means that I am not afraid to die. If I was to focus on that, I would spend my life at home, trapped. I am not going to let it stop me being who I am, from being a Christian.” She said that her freedom was made possible by living in Britain. “We are protected by the law in this country, which means I should be free to live the life God has called me to live.”

#4  "You are my Mothers, Brothers and Sisters", Jesus. When someone said that His family was outside a building wanting to see Him while he was teaching. This was before they were converted. In other words, your immediate family are your fellow Christians who are closer to you and far more supportive of you, than your unbelieving biological family, especially if the biological family is Islamic.

#5  her brother told her that he could not be responsible for his actions if she did not return to Islam

Seethe.

Meat, meet cat. Makes sense to a muslim. I'll bet all her family was moderate before this gal became a Christian.

This is how things are even though they are a minority. They are just local majorities. What will things be like if they grow to make up a larger portion of the population or woven throughout the entire country? What if they develop a beef with you for whatever reason? Are you going to put up with that $hit? You can't trust your own government to do its job so you'll have to it for them, which means you will have to go on a suicide mission just to make a point and hope somebody with some balls and authority picks up where you left off. But the chances of that happening are getting dimmer with each passing year. Is that what the Magna Carta and England is all about? Or any derived countries, for that matter, including my own?

Of course the only reasonable reactive solution would be to deport the whole family and be done with it. Anyone else screws with her or even looks at her sideways, then deport them and their families too.

From the sounds of things, before you know it they would all be gone! :-) But if they aren't, it's just because they are biding their time for the day when they will be a majority or close enough to it.

Happy Christmas, Brown. Your war has just begun.

#6  Muhammad's call for conversion, death or Dhimmitude is clear. Which makes the point, Islam is not a religion of peace. Examples such as Hannah simply puntuate the point.

#8  The flip side to this story is rarely heard, when a Muslim leaves Islam and becomes a Christian, and nobody does anything about it. And this is happening a lot. Islam is hemorrhaging followers.

If this girl gets away clean, her family will turn on itself in hatred. They will lean on each other to find out who was "responsible" for her leaving. They will suspect everyone else of also wanting to jump ship. They will oppress each other so much that others will consider what she considered.

Living in a western country and being a prisoner while surrounded by freedom has an erosive effect on their ability to control, to dominate. Over time, they adjust or they lose.

#4  Air combat in the future is going to be strange. Between drones and lasers, the skies could be full of air armadas or almost empty.

GPS may become outmoded in several ways, and might have be replaced by artificial intelligence that computes location based on geographical features and electronic signatures.

Spacewar may be independent of the air war, just provide support operations, or be an active participant with defensive and offensive weaponry.

A critical factor will be if someone can innovate anti-laser shielding, passive or electronic.

If too many electronic systems are involved in the battlefield, one side or the other may decide to create a low-blast EMP generating atmospheric nuke to neutralize much of the enemies electronic systems, while shielding its own. The Russians planned for this in the last 20 years of the Cold War. And it might be small enough to avoid nuclear retaliation.

Endless possibilities.

#8  Crack the mirror by some type of round fired from the C130, then commense melting the target.
Posted by: www || 12/11/2007 18:27 Comments || Top||

#9  Mirrors are pretty ineffective against high power lasers. The most effective thing is obscuration. After that, perhaps a nano-coating of some very heat conductive substance like diamond, on top of a powerful insulator, as well as sensors that would cause rapid course corrections when they detected more than normal heat. And yes, the sensors might even cause the target to start giving off a "refractive smoke" to shield its body.

Lasers must fix on targets for quite a while before they will damage them. So it might be possible to use a combination of things to prevent it from doing its job.

#11  "Next year, we will fire the laser at ground targets, demonstrating the military utility of this transformational directed energy weapon."

Make them black turbans and you'll have me sold!

As for mirrors, if you pulse the laser beam it will drill through the mirror in much the same way that lasers are used to drill steel. On for a zillionth of a second to heat up the steel, it splatters out of the way, then repeat the process deeper and deeper until you have drilled a hole. I don't think there is anything that can stand up to this kind of attack.
