[Gateway] Last week, hours before the council unanimously voted to pass D.C.’s controversial criminal code reform, a criminal justice policy advocate who helped pass the bill was fatally shot and killed, Washington Post reported.
Kelvin Blowe, 32, was shot dead after a car crash just before 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Washington, DC.
Blowe is a member of DC Justice Lab, an organization that advocates for criminal justice reform in DC’s criminal legal system.
On the same day, the city council unanimously approved a bill he supported that reduced penalties for criminal offenses like robbery, burglary, carjacking, and firearm possession without a license.
The Washington Post reports Blowe had spent over five years in prison for robbery, and the experience "instilled in him a passion to right inequities he believed he encountered."
After getting out, he joined DC Justice Lab, one of the groups that pushed to overhaul the city’s criminal code. He testified in support of the proposed bill in December.
The Marine Corps veteran, who was diagnosed with PTSD, was working as a security guard and was taking coworkers home last week when he was shot and killed when a gunman "emerged from a stolen car after a crash with Blowe. Authorities said they believe Blowe also possessed a weapon, as they recovered a gun next to his body... Blowe’s family said they did not know he had a weapon."
After the crash, Blowe got out, approached the car, and was shot. It is not known if Blowe pointed his firearm at the suspects, who fled the scene and have yet to be found.
The police stated that no arrests have been made and that the investigation is still ongoing.
"There is powerful false narrative in the District that criminal justice reform is fighting for leniency in lieu of safety...It is about freedom and safety," DC Justice Lab wrote on Twitter.

[People] Alandria Worthy was in labor and on her way to the hospital when she asked her fiancé, Deandre Phillips, to pull over so she could go to the bathroom. He stopped at an Atlanta area McDonald's —and instead of leaving with Big Macs, the couple left with a newborn baby girl.
"I went into the bathroom and my water broke immediately," Worthy told local news affiliate 11 Alive in Atlanta. "It was an experience because it happened so fast."

[Free Beacon] The San Francisco Elections Commission is considering terminating its contract with its elections director John Arntz—one of the city's most highly esteemed civil servants—citing concerns about "racial equity." Arntz, who is white, will need to reapply next year if he wants to keep his job.
The commission voted 4-2 last week to "open a competitive search" for Arntz's position, which he has held for two decades, rather than to renew his contract automatically, Cynthia Dai, a member of the commission, told the Washington Free Beacon. That decision, Dai said, was "driven in large part by the city's plan for racial equity," which requires all departments and commissions to address internal racial disparities.
"It's hard to achieve diversity targets if senior roles never open up," said Dai, who voted in favor of the search process. "This has nothing to do with his performance."
The vote by the commission, whose members are appointed rather than elected, sparked pushback from elected officials, who credit Arntz with cleaning up a broken system. Before Arntz took the helm, San Francisco's chief attorney David Chiu (D.) told Mission Local, a San Francisco-based newspaper, the city "had five directors in as many years, ballot boxes floating in the bay, and an intense lack of confidence in city elections."
San Francisco mayor London Breed (D.) went so far as to imply that the commission was putting free and fair elections at risk. The mass firing on Tuesday by United Furniture Industries, which makes budget-friendly sofas and recliners for Simmons Upholstery, left thousands of employees including truck drivers and factory workers in North Carolina, Mississippi and California unemployed just two days before Thanksgiving.
"At the instruction of the board of directors ... we regret to inform you that due to unforeseen business circumstances, the company has been forced to make the difficult decision to terminate the employment of all its employees, effective immediately, on Nov. 21," the company said in messages to employees.
"With the exception of over-the-road drivers that are out on delivery. Your layoff from the company is expected to be permanent and all benefits will be terminated immediately without provision of COBRA."
The privately held, Okolona, Miss.-based company could not be reached for comment.

A top doctor has spoken out to reveal how he was arrested by police and put in a psych ward over allegations that his views about treating COVID-19 constituted "misinformation."
Dr. Thomas Binder, a Swiss cardiologist with a doctorate in immunology and virology, says police forcibly took him to a psychiatric ward to be examined for mental illness.
Authorities determined that Binder, who has held a private practice for 24 years, should be examined for mental illness in response to his public criticism of Covid restrictions, mandates, and testing.
Binder had argued that the methods were unscientific.
On April 9, 2020, Binder published a post on his blog that gave an analysis of Covid and the government’s mitigation efforts.
According to WND, the post received 20,000 views and soon caught the attention of the authorities. OK, I coulda done without WND in this...
He hoped it would prompt action, but two colleagues alerted the chief of state police, claiming Binder was a threat to himself and the government.
On the day before Easter of 2020, he was confronted outside his home by about 60 armed police officers, including 20 with the canton of Aargau’s anti-terrorism unit, ARGUS.
In a recent video interview with independent reporter Taylor Hudak, Binder said that after examining his online posts and messages, police concluded he was not a threat.
However, the officers sent an emergency physician to examine his mental health.
He was then diagnosed with "corona insanity" and placed in a psychiatric unit.
Binder was released on the condition he takes psychiatric medication and continues to practice medicine in Switzerland.
"These are really Soviet-style, [East German]-style psychiatry methods," he said.

Hard collected data had been compromised since day 1. There is no good data.
Technically, since the jabs don't grant immunity, the vaccination rate is 0%. Some people believe on jab is 'vaccinated', while others believe you need a jab for each arm Lakshmi has given you, plus one for your missing tail.
Sort of just leaves us with observational data and social theory. Best number I've heard in USA is 1/3 refused any shot. If, big if, you believe in the Theory of Thirds, that given a large topic, 1/3 actively supports it, 1/3 actively opposes, and the middle 1/3 does the minimum leaning towards the more strongly planted wing. I'm going with if a person gets 3 they get 5 (or whatever is called for now, bi-monthly or whatever). That leaves the middle 1/3 with those who have taken 1 or 2 shots.

[Life Site] After accepting a top award, a retired Canadian general received a standing ovation from senior military officers for giving a rousing speech blasting cancel culture, climate change policies, woke aspects of the armed forces, and leaders who "divide."
The speech was made by retired Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneuve on November 9 in Ottawa at a gala event, at which he accepted the prestigious Vimy Award.
During his speech, Maisonneuve, who is a 35-year Canadian Armed Forces veteran, was direct in his take on the current leadership of Canada under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, without directly naming people.
"Can you imagine a military leader labeling half of his command as deplorables, fringe radicals and less-thans and then expect them to fight as one?" Maisonneuve asked rhetorically.
"Today’s leaders must find a way to unite; not divide."
Maisonneuve’s statement seems to be a reference to a remark made by Trudeau during the anti-mandate Freedom Convoy protest — which featured noticeable support from active and retired members of the nation’s armed forces — in which the prime minister said that those opposing his measures were of a "small, fringe minority" who hold "unacceptable views."
In the speech, Maisonneuve lamented how Canada was once a "great" nation, but in recent years has faltered in being a leader in the world.
"Since this is my speech, I get to share what I believe Canada needs to do to take the world stage again," said Maisonneuve. "What will it take? Well, I believe it will take leadership and service. These two crucial foundations of greatness for any nation have somehow become secondary — lost in these days of entitlement, ’me first’, ’not my problem’ and endless subsidies and handouts."
Maisonneuve noted how leaders "should" take "responsibility" when aspects of a nation fail, and that leaders have used social media as a tool in essence steer clear from being truthful.
He noted how today, "cancel culture still flourishes and there is no call for redaction or amendment even when accusations are proved false. Truth is not a requirement; once cancelled, you are done."
Maisonneuve then took a swipe at today’s mainstream press, saying that "balanced journalism is difficult to find," adding that the practice of presenting the truth or "facts" is "no longer compulsory in mainstream media."
"The line between ’news’ and op-eds has blurred and too often we are subjected to sermons written not by seasoned journalists but by first-year graduates of woke journalism schools," he charged.
Maisonneuve said that when it comes to forms of "extremism" on both the left and right, it seems to be "flourishing."
"Canada’s prosperity is being sacrificed at the altar of climate change as opposed to being used to help the world transition to clean energy. Throwing soup and paint at the world’s art treasures is as heinous as it is useless. The perpetrators should be punished, not celebrated," stated Maisonneuve.
Maisonneuve then noted how cancel culture and entitlement have resulted in one not taking "personal responsibility" for their actions, a phenomenon he says has "disappeared from the landscape while the phenomenon of collective apologies flourishes in our country."
"Individuals and groups fight over who gets to wear the coveted victim’s cloak. But any role they may have played in their own fate or in injuring others is dismissed as learned behaviour, inherited flaws or generational oppression," pressed the veteran.
Maisonneuve said that "enough statues have been toppled," and that "erasing our history is not the solution."
He then gave his thoughts on new military dress codes which allow for those in uniform to color their hair, grow beards, and have more choices in what they wear.
"Today, I see a military woefully underfunded, undermanned and under-appreciated; a force where uniforms have become a means of personal expression rather than a symbol of collective pride and unity: uniforms are no longer uniform," he lamented.
"The idea of serving in our armed forces is getting little traction. Could it be because the moral contract under which our military serve is broken?"
Ending on a positive note, Maisonneuve said that despite all this, he still believes "we can make Canada better."
"We Canadians live in the greatest country in the world with almost unlimited resources, a tolerant and diverse people, and an educated population who can aspire to the greatest heights. We should be prepared to serve our country and be proud to do so. And our leaders must share this vision."

However, Lametti claimed that the use of tanks was meant to be a joke, despite Trudeau declaring martial law at the time.

Doubtful. Getting rid of internal combustion engines seems part of the goal and a shutdown would have provided cover and assigned blame to an opponent. I'll go with 'it was polling too high'.
The shock is seeing this story on an Iraqi news site.
[Shafaq News] The rain beat down relentlessly in the pitch-black night as the five members of Sabah Zubaida’s family emerged from a taxi in an Iraqi Kurdish village. “What are you doing here?” asked a Peshmerga (Kurdish fighter) with a flashlight.
“We are Jews trying to escape,” came the answer.
The year was 1970. Three nights passed until the Peshmergas could drive their unexpected visitors out of Iraq to freedom in Iran, which under the Shah’s rule was friendly to Israel. The Zubaida family eventually made it to the UK.

You're right - sterilizing refugees in camps is totally NOT something that's evil. Hey, it wears off! Eventually. After the woman is out of her prime child-bearing years. And injecting people against their will and lying to them about what's going into their bodies - gosh, didn't we just have a gigantic brouhaha about that here in America? It just screams NOT EVIL in all capital letters.
So not surprising that these blacks are getting a furious reaction from the media. It's in line with what's happened before.

Do stop joining the Ha’aretz reporter in the usual anti-Israel hysteria, Spike the Hairy6811. Depo-Provera shots are good for three months, with normal cycles returning thereafter — not anything like “beyond her prime childbearing years”. Sterilization is permanent.
I suspect the Ethiopian Jews did the same as the rest of the Middle Eastern/North African Jewish populations that made aliya — and the same as the Middle Eastern and North African non-Jewish populations back home — discovering the joys of birth control and dropping their birthrates from 8-9 children per mother to 3-4. Quite possibly they were given an unexplained jump start in the years immediately following arrival — the labour socialists were running things in those days, and we all know what they’re like —but for the rest the Ethiopian Jews are following the assimilation pattern of immigration waves before and since.
In other words, after spending a generation recovering from abruptly moving from the Third World to the First World, the current generation is busily acquiring the skills and mindset to join Israeli society as equals. This explains the current deluge of Ethiop-Israeli Miss Israels, artists and musicians, army officers, students at elite universities, and entrepreneurs. Also the addition of Ethiopian recipes and traditions to those already customary in Israel, following the addition of recipes and traditions from Iraq, Iran, Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, and so forth.
