-Lurid Crime Tales-
Karma is a Bitch
  • Joseph McKinnon, 60, killed Patricia Dent, 65, inside a Trenton home Saturday, the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies responded to the residence over reports of "an unresponsive male lying in his yard," Sheriff Jody Rowland said in a news release.

  • When they arrived, they found McKinnon’s body. Medical crews were called to the scene and tried to revive him, Fox Carolina reported.
    He's dead, Jim.
  • During their investigation, deputies found a second body in a freshly dug pit, Rowland said. The body was identified as Dent, who lived with McKinnon, authorities said.

  • He had a "cardiac event" while covering the pit, authorities said. Investigators believe McKinnon attacked Dent in the home. An autopsy determined she died by strangulation.

Social Justice Warriors Silent After Lufthansa Boots Over 100 Jews From Flight
[PJ] For those who still live in a world of pink unicorns and think that there is no longer mainstream hate and anti-Semitism, I suggest that we present them with the story of the airline Lufthansa’s overt act of anti-Semitism on May 4.

More than 100 Jews, mostly Hasidic (and dressed in typical Hasidic clothing), were on a flight from JFK to Hungary through Frankfurt to observe the memorial of a great rabbi. Apparently, one or two of them did not wear a mask between sips of drinks, which caused great consternation with the flight attendant and pilot as Lufthansa still requires masks. As a result, ALL visible Jews (the ones who "looked Jewish"?) were banned from their connecting flight to Budapest.

To quote the Lufthansa representative, as recorded on video, "Everyone has to pay for a couple. It’s Jews coming from JFK. Jewish people who were the mess, who made the problems."

For a moment, let’s ignore the obvious anti-Semitism, illegalities, and discrimination. Let’s skip over the fact that over 100 people were punished as a group for the questionable actions of one or two people. Instead, we need to look at the reactions and lack of reaction as a result of this overt hate.

Lufthansa issued a qualified apology: "Lufthansa regrets the circumstances surrounding the decision to exclude affected passengers from the flight." This is similar to someone apologizing by saying, "I’m sorry you feel that way." It is simply not an apology for a clear act of hate. Rather than apologizing for their anti-Semitic action, they’re sorry for the circumstances surrounding it? Has the corporate world become so affected and scared by the hate of Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, BLM, and the far left that they can’t even take ownership for the obviously ugly action of discriminating against an entire class of people based on how they look?

Very few people in America had slave prior to 1865. [There was a reason they were called Free States] Yet, if you are white you are automatically a racist.

Josh Hawley moves to strip Disney of special copyright protections under 'Mickey Mouse Protection Act'
[PostMillennial] Senator Josh Hawley has introduced legislation that would strip Disney of it's special long-term copyright protections that had been granted to the entertainment giant by Congress after the company took a stance against Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill.

According to Fox News, the "Copyright Clause Restoration Act of 2022" would cap copyrights granted to corporations by Congress to 56 years, and would retroactively implement this change on corporations, which would include Disney.

Hawley told Fox that "woke corporations" like Disney had raked in billions of dollars due to these special copyright protections.

"The age of Republican handouts to Big Business is over. Thanks to special copyright protections from Congress, woke corporations like Disney have earned billions while increasingly pandering to woke activists. It's time to take away Disney's special privileges and open up a new era of creativity and innovation," Hawley said.

Hawley's office said that Congress had used the "Mickey Mouse Protection Act," which amended the Copyright Act of 1976 in 1998, to extend copyrights for corporations up to 120 years.

The act, officially called the "Copyright Term Extension Act," increased the duration of copyrights by 20 years.

Hawley's action comes as Disney continued to be at odds with the state of Florida, after the company condemned the state's Parental Rights in Education Act.

Opponents of the bill, including Disney, have said that the legislation protecting children from gender identity indoctrination would harm LGBTQ youth.

Army soldier killed in bear attack during training exercise in Alaska
[NEXSTAR] — A U.S. Army soldier stationed at a base in Alaska died after being injured by a bear on Tuesday, officials at the base confirmed.

The soldier, who was stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, was participating in a training exercise in Eagle River, Anchorage, with a small group of other soldiers, according to a news release. Officials at the base did not say if any other trainees had sustained injuries.

The name of the deceased soldier was being held until a next-of-kin was notified.

Wildlife Troopers from Alaska’s Department of Public Safety were dispatched to locate the bear. The area has also been closed off to the public.

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson will provide additional details as they become available, the news release said.

Had a friend tasked to eliminate a dangerous Black Bear in the NGA / WNC area back in the 90's used a Semi-Auto 12ga with 250+ grain deer slugs.

A 5.56mm using 55 grain rounds would not be a caliber of choice for a charging 400+ lbs Male Black Bear.

Applying that info to an Alaska Brown Bear, which generally are around 800lbs or Kodiak's which are near a VW Bug in weight.

A magazine worth of the defender and probably those of his mates would at least slow the beast down. Ripping up tendons and sinew of the limbs would have a tendency to do that.

Minister refuses to rule out that Ukrainian refugees could be deported to Rwanda
[Independent] Tom Pursglove also indicates Afghans who served with British Army could face removal under policy

A Home Office minister has refused to rule out that Ukrainian refugees could be deported to Rwanda under Priti Patel’s new asylum policy.
The lady is an idiot, and ineffective one at that.
Speaking to MPs on Wednesday, immigration minister Tom Pursglove said that decisions to ship asylum seekers to the east African country would be considered on a “case by case basis.”

Russia debuts an ancient weapon - Kh-22
[Tom Cooper]
Point is: yesterday, a video surfaced purportedly shown the release of two Kh-22 (‘AS-4 Kitchen’) missiles from a Tu-22M-3 bomber.

Must admit, had to re-view that video two times just to trust my eyes.

The Kh-22 was originally developed — back in the 1960s — to strike heavily-protected targets on land, like air bases or major air defence installations, or heavily protected naval targets — like aircraft carriers. Developed back in the 1960s, it’s an old weapon: something like ‘1,5 generation’ of Soviet guided missiles. Unsurprisingly, in ‘land attack mode’ it had ‘circular error probable’ of about 3 miles: therefore, back in the 1960s it was usually equipped with a nuclear warhead. Certainly enough, conventional warheads were developed, as was an anti-radar variant, too and during the 1970s — and in conjunction with then brand-new Tu-22M bomber — it was considered the biggest threat for US Navy’s aircraft carriers.

Over the last few years, there were reports about an upgrade to the Kh-32 standard; but, considering the poor state of the Russian high-tech military sector since Moscow lost the contact to over 50 Ukrainian military research and development facilities, in 2014, and how, literally, ‘toxic’ this weapon is (because of its propellant), I have my doubts about that part of the story.

Anyway: apparently, after all these years, the Kh-22 now saw its combat premiere, too. Guess, might explain lots of Ukrainian reports about ‘mysterious detonations’ well away from anything meaningful, which appeared in the last few days.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: May 11th, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 23:13 Finnish President Sauli Niinostiio said that Finland's possible entry into NATO would not pose a threat to Russia, and Moscow should understand that they themselves pushed Helsinki to such a decision after decades of neutrality.

23:09 The mayor of Kherson, Igor Kolykhaev, commenting on the reports of the occupying "power" about the intention to become part of Russia, said that "Kherson residents see themselves exclusively as part of Ukraine." In this regard, he demanded "an official statement from the Ukrainian authorities that Ukraine is fighting for its Ukrainian Kherson and appreciates each of its inhabitants who did not leave the city to be torn to pieces."

23:04 Arestovich said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine approached the borders of Russia in the Kharkov direction, and in some places even reached it. And although this is not a guarantee of the cessation of firing in this direction, Kharkov has been largely secured - now only the MLRS reaches it. Currently, troops from near Kharkov, according to him, are being transferred to the Luhansk region.

22:43 Servicemen of the 126th separate brigade of the Odessa Terrorist Defense Forces found ancient amphoras during fortification works - the finds are dated to around 4-5 century BC. The artifacts were handed over to the staff of the Odessa Archaeological Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, who promised to add them to the museum's collection.

22:28 The damage to Ukraine as a result of a full-scale invasion of Russia is 92.3 billion dollars. This calculation was made by specialists of the Department of Monetary Policy and Economic Analysis of the National Bank.

Real estate ($32.649 billion) and infrastructure ($31.645 billion) suffered the biggest losses. Almost $12 billion of damage falls on mining and processing facilities, and more than $8.5 billion on social facilities.

22:23 As a result of the rocket attack of the Russians on the Lozova community of the Kharkiv region, one person was killed, Lozova Mayor Sergei Zelensky said.

22:19 Andryushchenko posted a video from the center of Mariupol:

22:16 The IAEA denied Russian fakes that Ukraine is developing nuclear weapons: "Of course, the IAEA firmly denies this ... We do this on the basis of facts, since it is possible to conduct inspections and objectively confirm that nuclear materials are not modified."

22:14 The Times, citing representatives of the space forces of Western countries, reports that Russia is attacking satellites in Earth orbit - this can jam the GPS signals used by planes, ships, cars and ordinary smartphones. American intelligence noticed significant glitches in GPS signals when the Russians deployed their equipment around Chernihiv.

21:59 In the Luhansk region, the Russians have become more active, they are trying to break into Severodonetsk, capture Rubizhne, cut off the Luhansk region from the "mainland", taking control of the Lisichansk-Bakhmut highway. The shelling is super-powerful, said the head of the OVA, Sergei Gaidai.

According to him, Bialogorivka is now an "outpost of the Luhansk region", where the occupiers are trying to cross the river, "but they only feed the fish themselves." The humanitarian situation is on the brink, evacuation is not yet possible.

Gaidai also confirmed that the Russians pumped out gas at the distribution station in Novopskov, turned off the taps - in a few days the entire region would be left without gas.

21:56 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that today, near the village of Dolgenkoye, Kharkiv region, "in order to accuse the Russian army of using chemical weapons, nationalists blew up a tank with fertilizers, presumably with ammonium nitrate." As a result, a cloud of orange smoke was formed, which dissipated after a while.

21:54 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that in densely populated areas of the Kramatorsk-Slavyansk agglomeration, "Ukrainian militants have placed heavy weapons and equipment, residents are kept in basements; in residential areas and more than 10 enterprises of Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, nationalists are holding over 90 thousand residents, using them like a living shield." Also in Kramatorsk and Slavyansk allegedly "there is a real threat of a humanitarian catastrophe, the Russian Federation calls on the UN, OSCE, ICRC to take measures to evacuate residents."

21:50 The head of the Poltava OVA, Dmitry Lunin, announced a missile strike in the Karlovskaya community on an infrastructure facility. Rescuers extinguish the fire, information about the victims and damage is being specified.

21:48 Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that the German gas company VNG has already transferred euros to Gazprombank for conversion into rubles and subsequent payment for gas, writes Newsunrolled. "No one has ever said whether the ruble payments violate the sanctions. This is such a gray area. Germany, the largest gas importer, has already paid in rubles, and most importers have opened accounts in rubles," Draghi said.

21:46 Zelensky said that he had spoken with Scholz: "We talked about defense assistance, cooperation in the energy sector, increased sanctions pressure on the Russian aggressor. We appreciate the high level of dialogue with Germany and support in our struggle."

21:44 Russia's attack on Ukraine put an end to the post-Cold War period, Johnson said during a visit to Finland. He added that Russian aggression "rewrote our reality" and "reformatted our future" - a new section of history began.

‘We know everything about Russians.’ How Western intelligence helps the Ukrainian army
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Andrey Kots

[RIA Novosti] Political, diplomatic and economic pressure on Moscow, the supply of weapons and military equipment - NATO countries continue to defiantly help Ukraine. However, support of a different kind remains behind the scenes: from the very beginning of the conflict, Western intelligence services have been continuously supplying Kyiv with intelligence. What exactly - in the material RIA Novosti.

Back in 2014, the Americans began to transfer satellite images of the Donbass and border areas to Ukraine. However, at first, they kept the appearance of decorum - they blacked out Russian military facilities and reduced the clarity of images.

Canada has granted the Armed Forces limited access to the RADARSAT-2 satellite. And in 2015, the State Space Agency of Ukraine signed a contract with the European company Airbus Defense and Space on the use of data from the Pleiades-1 and Pleiades-2 spacecraft.
Representatives of the OSCE monitoring mission in Donetsk - RIA Novosti,

All eight years of the war in the Donbass, it was not so important. The positional nature of the armed conflict did not imply a sharp change in the operational situation. Now, however, all conventions are thrown aside. Intelligence from orbit arrives in Kyiv daily, in fact, in real time.
NATO does not even think to hide the fact that their devices are constantly hanging over the combat zone. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, just hours after the fire on the missile cruiser Moskva, said the agency already had satellite images of the sinking ship.

And in early April, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin publicly acknowledged the transfer of intelligence to Ukraine. According to him, the Pentagon provides information to Kyiv in order to "help the Armed Forces of Ukraine attack enemy troops in the Donbass."

Private entrepreneurs are not far behind. The American company SpaceX sent more than five thousand Starlink satellite Internet terminals to Ukraine for the rapid exchange of intelligence information.

The Ukrainians can use the information received, in particular, when planning attacks on Russian settlements.

“The border regions of Russia, like the Donbass, are also under constant surveillance from orbit,” says military expert Alexei Leonkov. “The West regularly informs Ukraine about the location of our troops: where they are moving, where they are attacking or defending. the operation of radio equipment in close proximity to the line of contact, especially about the electronic warfare systems that jam Ukrainian drones. Western specialists also designate targets for strikes."

According to the expert, Earth remote sensing satellites are now the main source of information for the Western military. Prior to the Russian special operation, American drones, including RQ-4 Global Hawk heavy strategic drones, were constantly flying along the contact line in Donbass. And the coast of Crimea and the airspace of Ukraine were regularly flown by NATO spy planes U-2SDragon Lady, RC-135W Rivet Joit and P-8A Poseidon.

It is easy to guess what their goals were. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes: Ukraine was going to return by force the uncontrolled areas of Donbass in early March. Kyiv was pushing the West to do this, transmitting to the Armed Forces of Ukraine the coordinates of the positions of the armies of the DPR, LPR and Russia, the locations of military units, air defense systems, and maps of field fortifications. However, Russia now controls the skies over the war zone. And NATO is unlikely to dare to risk the lives of pilots and expensive equipment.

NATO ground infrastructure is also used. In particular, at the Polish airfield near the city of Rzeszow, 70 kilometers from the eastern border, American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems are deployed. They not only guard this important transit point, from where convoys with weapons leave, but also monitor the airspace over Western Ukraine.

The target detection range of standard AN / MPQ-65 radars is up to 180 kilometers. This allows you to view the sky of the entire Lviv region and notify the Ukrainian General Staff in a timely manner about the approach of Russian cruise missiles to military infrastructure facilities.
Western specialists are also working directly in the combat zone. It is no secret that foreigners are fighting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine - both mercenaries and military personnel. It is they who, according to the DPR and LPR, act as operators of American-made counter-battery radars, helping Ukrainians to identify the positions of Russian artillery.

The other day, the British media reported the arrival in Lviv of about two dozen fighters of the elite SAS special forces, specializing, among other things, in deep reconnaissance. It is not excluded their direct participation in hostilities.

It is important to understand that NATO countries are helping Ukraine with military supplies and intelligence information not out of great love for the Kyiv regime. Observing the actions of Russian troops, tactics, peculiarities of the use of weapons, strengths and weaknesses, generals in Brussels and Washington carefully analyze how a potential enemy fights. And there is no doubt: according to their findings, dozens of textbooks for Western military schools and academies will be written.

#1  Some of the commercial small sat constellations are getting quite dense and quick. One has a complete new multi-spectral (and side-band radar) image of the complete earth in 3 meter detail every hour. As their network gets bigger they are hoping for a complete earth image every 15 mins. by next year.

#2  Those are very small sats at most 2 kg. They would be easy to attach to the much larger communications sats like Starlink or Amazons. StarLink has too many up to modify right now but Amazon hasn't started launching yet. 2kg would not effect those sats one bit.

China ‘Deeply Alarmed’ By SpaceX’s Starlink Capabilities That Is Helping US Military Achieve Total Space Dominance

“SpaceX has decided to increase the number of Starlink satellites from 12,000 to 42,000 – the program’s unchecked expansion and the company’s ambition to use it for military purposes should put the international community on high alert,” said the article on China Military Online, the official news website affiliated with the Central Military Commission (CMC), China’s highest national defense organization headed by President Xi Jinping himself.

Here is the referenced China Military Online article (in English). Note that apparently the CCCP does not countenance TLS encryption. Perhaps they know something we don't:

ChinaMil: Starlink's expansion, military ambitions alert world

Also note the .htm extension on the web page filename. Hopefully they have been keeping that ancient Windows NT server patched up. And I'm starting to suspect their lack of standard website encryption is not indicative of a beyond pedestrian understanding of such matters. Rather, I now suspect that China Military Online is really just someone with English skills at a desk in an office in Beijing.

#6  The ChiComs are just pissy because all their anti-satellite weapons are designed for single large satellites. Blowing up one of those makes a difference. The Starlink birds are small and distributed. Losing a handful of them would not matter much.

Source reports the desertion of militants of the Odessa local levies
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] Most of the militants of the territorial defense in the Odessa region deserted after learning about the plans to send them to the front after a two-week exercise, a source in the Russian law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti, citing his own informant in the Ukrainian army.

"For territorial defense in the Odessa region , two-week courses of enhanced combat training were formed, followed by sending to the combat zone from the last group (about 300 people), more than 70 percent of the militants deserted," the agency's interlocutor said.

According to the source, the escaped militants hid in villages in the Odessa region and some were able to cross the border and go to Moldova.

"They joined the territorial defense in order to avoid service. They found out the real goals of their training and fled. The Armed Forces of Ukraine, in turn, are trying to replenish the group of troops in the south-east of the country due to the lack of trained personnel reserves," the agency's interlocutor noted.

More InfoOps bullshit from the resident Shitposter.

Here's reality, not your pathetic and stupid MI6 spin: the ruble has soared to a five year high against the dollar.

Even pro-US governments across the industrial world are starting to reduce their dollar holdings. The US economy is facing stagflation, the US stock markets are crashing, the US president is a deranged and demented clown.

#8  "Seen the elephant", nice historic touch Steve!

Wiki: The phrase seeing the elephant is an Americanism which refers to gaining experience of the world at a significant cost. It was a popular expression of the mid to late 19th century throughout the United States in the Mexican–American War, the Texan Santa Fe Expedition, the American Civil War, the 1849 Gold Rush, and the Westward Expansion Trails (Oregon Trail, California Trail, Mormon Trail).[1]

I'll repeat. Sometime before this war, well before, we found that the Daily Mail covered many domestic news stories that few national publications do. They occasionally have some international stories presented in the tabloid style they are known for.

#23  I loved the story about the brave bold "Canadian Sniper" named "Wali" who just returned home to Canada, sneering at the absolute shitshow of the foreign mercenaries like himself. Some juicy quotes, translated from his interview in French with his Montreal hometown newspaper, La Presse.

Overall, "This war is terribly disappointing"

"Wali," on trying to simply get a gun to fire:
"You had to know someone who knew someone who told you that in some old barbershop they would give you an AK-47. You had to tinker with a soldier's kit like that by picking up pieces and ammunition left and right, in many cases with weapons in more or less good condition."

On the BS about Ukraine "winning" the war:
In the end, Wali said he only fired two bullets into windows “to scare people” and never really came within enemy firing range.

"It's a war of machines", where the "extremely brave" Ukrainian soldiers suffer very heavy losses from shelling, but "miss many opportunities" to weaken the enemy because they lack knowledge technical military, he summarizes.

On his fellow big-talking western mercenary morons, most of whom have thrown in the towel and returned home:
"They arrive in Ukraine with their chests bulging, but they leave with their tails between their legs"

#27  Some how though, the war has not seemed to go your way. Biden offered Zelensky safe passage to leave the country so that your guy could walk in unopposed.
He hinted early in February that he wouldn't object to snipping off a bit more of Ukraine territory.
But Zelensky wouldn't leave, and the attack on Kyev was an embarrassing fiasco for you guys. It was the Europeans who stiffened up to oppose you, and Biden merely jumped on the bandwagon.
There is the psychological term called projection: it means accusing your enemy of your own failings. Do you remember that it saw the Molotov Ribbentrop Treaty that began WW2, and you guys were as guilty as the Nazis for that.

And your judges got to s3entence Germans for their part in starting it!.
Perhaps you guys are the Nazis in this war.
The problem you have this that every small country in the world now fears that if they cannot pay some debt you are likely to invade and claiim the right to rule there. They now feel the same way about China, your buddy. How do yope hope to remove that fear which can leave you total;ly isolated.
Paradoxically, the only way you can do that is by losing the war! And the sooner you do so the better for you and yours as well as everyone else.
By the way Biden was all for your pipeline, and dead against ours, and has done his best to raise gas and oil prices. With enemies like him who needs friends?

We are well aware of this, Albemarle Ulease2342. Sadly, if there are no hard consequences for the foolish and venal among America’s politicians and the voters — both real and imaginary — who put them in office, they will never learn. Let us hope that the rest of the world, which generally gets a bad case of Covid whenever America has a slight cold, does not pay too high a price while our idiots learn it.

#35  Let's look at the scorecard, shall we?
Losers: Ukraine (biggest loser by far), Russia, US
Winner: can you guess? (see below)

- total devastation, in every sense. Tens of thousands of innocents killed. Every major city in ruins. Economy and infrastructure trashed for at least a decade. Democratic freedoms are gone. Its politics were a corrupt shitshow before the invasion; now it's literally a one-party dictatorship in which minority rights have been extinguished. Ukraine was the poorest, most corrupt and backward country in Europe before the invasion; now it's Europe's Gaza Strip.

Then again, the Euro-Gazan leader has a large following on Instagram and in Hollywood. Nancy Pelosi and Lindsay Graham praise him.

Russia: Russia's economy will shrink by 10% - a much smaller amount than Ukraine's which will shrink by more than 50%, but a not insignificant price to pay. Russia will now orient itself East and South. The US and Western Europe hate the Russians and vice-versa, and the world will be poorer in every sense due to the Western effort to "cancel" Russia as if it were a MAGA supporter in Manhattan.

But Russian control of the real prize, the southern coast and the Donbas, is now assured. In Russian eyes, keeping NATO off its front porch is probably worth the steep cost.

The United States: the US will in the near and medium term be the biggest loser from this war. Ukraine went from the cellar to the dungeon but the US is going from the penthouse to the ground floor. US hegemony is finished. The dollar's reserve currency is certain to disappear within a few years. Biden has saddled America with another multi-year idiotic foreign intervention that will cost the US hundreds of billions, if not trillions, and result in Americans becoming poorer, less secure and less free. And the WINNER is...

CHINA. Is this by accident, or by (the BidenFreaks') design?

Ukrainian counter-attack drives Russian troops back to their own border near Kharkiv as Kyiv shuts off pipeline carrying up to a THIRD of Russia's gas into Europe
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Ukraine counter-attack north of Kyiv has pushed Russian troops back to border

  • Attack puts key highway and train line into Donbas within range of Kyiv's artillery

  • Meanwhile, Ukraine cut off a gas pipe which carries a third of Europe's supply

  • Comes as the EU drags its feet on a gas embargo, which would cut off a lifeline of the Russian economy which is key to funding its war effort

The suburban Kharkiv counteroffensive is trivial. It will no more halt the inevitable Russian completion of domination of the Donbas and the entire Black Sea coastline than the earlier Nazi breakout in the Korsun pocket did in 1944.

It was Zelensky who "tied" himself to SS regalia. Zelensky chose, on the day commemorating the defeat of the Nazi war machine, to proudly post his Totenkopf-warrior. Nice.

Hong Kong cardinal Joseph Zen arrested under China's security law

[BBC News] One of the Catholic Church's most senior members has been arrested in Hong Kong for breaking China's national security law, police have confirmed.

Cardinal Joseph Zen, 90, is one of four people detained for being associated with a now-defunct organisation that helped protesters in financial need.

The others are a Cantopop singer and actor Denise Ho, ex-legislator Margaret Ng, and academic Dr Hui Po Keung.

They are accused of colluding with foreign forces.

If found guilty, they could face life in prison.

Human Rights Watch called it a "shocking new low for Hong Kong."

Latest Inflation Numbers Released, Surprising Economists
[Townhall] Consumer inflation — once dubbed "transitory" by the White House — has stuck around four-decade highs in recent months after surging upward after President Biden took office, and April's year-over-year increase is nearly double last April's reading. Here's a quick look at the YOY inflation data for each month since Biden took office in January 2021:

  • January 2021 - 1.4%
  • February 2021 - 1.7%
  • March 2021 - 2.6%
  • April 2021 - 4.2%
  • May 2021 - 5.0%
  • June 2021 - 5.4%
  • July 2021 - 5.4%
  • August 2021 - 5.3%
  • September 2021 - 5.4%
  • October 2021 - 6.2%
  • November 2021 - 6.8%
  • December 2021 - 7.0%
  • January 2022 - 7.5%
  • February 2022 - 7.9%
  • March 2022 - 8.5%
  • April 2022 - 8.3%

President Biden, however, continues to refuse any accountability for the pain being felt by Americans under the crunch of rising prices and lower real wages. Instead, he has attempted to blame Putin's invasion of Ukraine (which came after YOY inflation had hit >7% for multiple months) and the COVID-19 pandemic (a virus which candidate Biden promised he would "shut down" instead of the U.S. economy).

Sweden and Finland sign mutal defense treaty with UK before NATO decision.
[Yahoo] Sweden and Finland are one step closer to joining NATO after signing a mutual defense treaty with the United Kingdom on Wednesday.

The treaties were announced by British prime minister Boris Johnson during his visit to Stockholm and meeting with Swedish prime minister Magdalena Andersson. Formally termed “A Political Declaration of Solidarity,” the treaty pledges that the United Kingdom – a nuclear-armed state and NATO founding member – will intervene to defend Sweden if it “suffers disaster or an attack,” said Andersson.

Johnson signed the treaty with Andersson during his visit and is expected to sign an identical instrument in Helsinki later today, during his bilateral meetings with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and PM Sanna Martin.

The agreements come as Finland and Sweden telegraph an impending decision to join the NATO, which currently has thirty members across Europe and North America. Though a public debate on membership has been ongoing in both countries for years, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has jolted public opinion in support of NATO. A recent poll by Sweden’s Aftonbladet newspaper showed that 57 percent of Swedes supported joining the military alliance, a jump from 37 percent in January of this year. In Finland, the figures were even more lopsided: soaring to 76 percent in support of membership from 28 percent in January.

In the peace treaty of 1948/9 the Russians said that Finland must remain Neutral in perpetuity or else the Russians would annihilate them. The Finns were very happy to sign that agreement under those terms. However we see that once a group of Nazi's reappear in Ukraine the Finns rush to their aid.

So, for the Finns it seems to be once a Nazi lover always a Nazi lover.

Baby Formula Shortage ‐ Biden Administration, ‘We Have Seen No Plan'
[Breitbart] Wednesday on FNC’s "Fox & Friends," Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) demanded action from President Joe Biden and the Food and Drug Administration to solve the nationwide baby formula shortage crisis.

Stefanik, noting the importance of formula access for babies, called the shortage "harrowing." She lamented there was "no plan from Joe Biden."

"This is a crisis across America," Stefanik advised. "I can think of no more harrowing just crisis for parents as they are desperately trying to find access to baby formula. [My son] Sam is nine months. He is formula-fed. We are lucky in the sense that there is not a particular brand of formula, but for health issues, some babies only take a certain type of formula. The shelves have been fairly empty in upstate New York, and I’m hearing from parents all across America. We are demanding action."

"I actually saw this crisis coming and demanded FDA respond in February of this year when there was the recall of the Sturgiss, Michigan plant, so this is a huge crisis," she added. "We want to make sure that there is a plan. And we have seen no plan from Joe Biden or the FDA."

Virus found in pig heart used in human transplant
[Al Ahram] Researchers trying to learn what killed the first person to receive a heart transplant from a pig have discovered the organ harbored an animal virus but cannot yet say if it played any role in the man’s death.

A Maryland man, 57-year-old David Bennett Sr., died in March, two months after the groundbreaking experimental transplant. University of Maryland doctors said Thursday they found an unwelcome surprise — viral DNA inside the pig heart. They did not find signs that this bug, called porcine cytomegalovirus, was causing an active infection.

But a major worry about animal-to-human transplants is the risk that it could introduce new kinds of infections to people.

Because some viruses are "latent," meaning they lurk without causing disease, "it could be a hitchhiker," Dr. Bartley Griffith, the surgeon who performed Bennett’s transplant, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Still, development is under way of more sophisticated tests to "make sure that we don’t miss these kinds of viruses," added Dr. Muhammad Mohiuddin, scientific director of the university’s xenotransplant program.

The animal virus was first reported by MIT Technology Review, citing a scientific presentation Griffith gave to the American Society of Transplantation last month.

For decades, doctors have tried using animal organs to save human lives without success. Bennett, who was dying and ineligible for a human heart transplant, underwent the last-ditch operation using a heart from a pig genetically modified to lower the risk that his immune system would rapidly reject such a foreign organ.

The Maryland team said the donor pig was healthy, had passed testing required by the Food and Drug Administration to check for infections, and was raised in a facility designed to prevent animals from spreading infections. Revivicor, the company that provided the animal, declined to comment.

Griffith said his patient, while very ill, had been recovering fairly well from the transplant when one morning he woke up worse, with symptoms similar to an infection. Doctors ran numerous tests to try to understand the cause, and gave Bennett a variety of antibiotics, antiviral medication and an immune-boosting treatment. But the pig heart became swollen, filled with fluid and eventually quit functioning.

"What was the virus doing, if anything, that might have caused the swelling in his heart?" Griffith asked. "Honestly we don’t know."

The reaction also didn't appear to be a typical organ rejection, he said, noting the investigation still is underway.

Meanwhile doctors at other medical centers around the country have been experimenting with animal organs in donated human bodies and are anxious to attempt formal studies in living patients soon. It’s not clear how the pig virus will affect those plans.

Sarin gas blamed for Gulf War syndrome
[BBC] US scientists say they have discovered what caused thousands of soldiers who served in the 1991 Gulf War to fall sick with mysterious symptoms.

They have pinned the blame on the nerve agent sarin, which was released into the air when caches of Iraqi chemical weapons were bombed.

Many veterans have complained of a range of debilitating symptoms which developed after their service.

But for decades the cause of Gulf War Syndrome has remained elusive.

Sarin is usually deadly, but lead researcher Dr Robert Haley said the gas that soldiers were exposed to in Iraq was diluted, and so not fatal.

"But it was enough to make people ill if they were genetically predisposed to illness from it."

Dr Haley said the key to whether somebody fell ill was a gene known as PON1, which plays an important role in breaking down toxic chemicals in the body.

His team found veterans with a less effective version of the PON1 gene were more likely to become sick.

The latest study - largely funded by the US government - involved more than 1,000 randomly-selected American Gulf War veterans.

Dr Haley, of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, said: "This is the most definitive study.

"We believe it will stand up to any criticism. And we hope our findings will lead to treatment that will relieve some of the symptoms."

More than 50,000 British troops served in the war which followed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.

The Royal British Legion said research suggests up to 33,000 UK Gulf War veterans could be living with the syndrome, with 1,300 claiming a war pension for conditions connected to their service in the Gulf.
Courtesy of Skidmark, the Daily Mail has more, including:
A quarter of veterans who served in Gulf War are suffering unexplained symptoms.

Soldiers' samples were tested for a gene called PON1, which break down chemicals in the body.

One variant — called PON1Q — generates an enzyme that breaks down sarin.

Another variant — called PON1R — helps the body break down other chemicals but is not efficient at destroying sarin.

Everyone carries two copies of PON1, giving them either a QQ, RR or QR genotype.

The findings, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, show Gulf War veterans with the QQ genotype who heard nerve agent alarms – a proxy for chemical exposure – were 3.75-times more likely to have the syndrome than those who had not heard the alarm.

For those who had a QR genotype, hearing the alarms raised their chance of having Gulf War syndrome by 4.43 times.

And for those with two copies of the R gene — which is inefficient at breaking down sarin — the chance of the condition increased by 8.91 times.
