DeWayne Craddock was violent with co-workers before Virginia Beach shooting: report
[NYP] The gunman who shot dead 12 people at a Virginia Beach municipal building had been facing disciplinary action for a violent fight at work, according to a report.

DeWayne Craddock, 40, was still employed as an engineer with the Department of Public Utilities when he went on his shooting rampage Friday, killing 12 and injuring several others, including a cop.

But he recently started showing serious behavioral problems and got into physical "scuffles" with other city workers, a source told The New York Times.

The source told the paper that the troubles had escalated in the week leading up to the mass shooting ‐ and Craddock was involved in what it called "a violent altercation on city grounds."

Craddock reportedly knew he was facing disciplinary action for the fight when he went into the municipal building with two .45-caliber handguns, at least one of which was equipped with a sound suppressor ‐ and both of which were purchased legally.

Russia has pulled several hundred advisors from Venezuela
[WSJ] MOSCOW‐Russia has withdrawn key defense advisers from Venezuela, an embarrassment for President Nicolás Maduro.
These are contract employees, not official Russian government or military personnel. However, the withdrawal of several hundred personnel is significant. Maybe Russia thinks Maduro is now secure or maybe they think it is cheaper to protect Maduro with Cuban or maybe they think he is a lost cause or maybe some combination.

Sen. Gillibrand, Polling at About One Percent, Rips into Fox News and President Donald Trump
[Political Insider] Things got heated at a Fox News town hall in Iowa Sunday when Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) used the platform to blame the network for allowing discussions of infanticide in debates about abortion and women’s reproductive rights.

When asked by a retired pediatric nurse named Susan about her stance on late-term abortions, Gillibrand pivoted to an attack on Fox News.

Gillibrand accused Fox of fueling what she called the infanticide "red herring" by devoting 6.5 hours of coverage to the debate, including comments from guests on the network.

"What we have created, unfortunately, is a false choice and a false narrative," Gillibrand said of the climate surrounding the issue. "And Chris, I want to talk about the role that Fox News plays in this because it’s a problem. I can tell you before President Trump gave his State of the Union, Fox News talked about infanticide."

"Infanticide doesn’t exist," she said ‐ at which point "Fox News Sunday" host and town hall moderator Chris Wallace cut her off.

"Senator, I just want to say, we’ve brought you here for an hour," Wallace said. "We’ve treated you very fairly. I understand that maybe to make your credentials with the Democrats who are not appearing on Fox News, you want to attack us. I’m not sure it’s frankly very polite when we’ve invited you to be here."

Gillibrand, who is polling at around one percent, according to most national and early voting state polls, has yet to secure the 65,000 individual donor campaign contributions necessary to qualify her for the late June and July primary debates and hoped to use her platform on Fox to bolster support.

"I’ll do it in a polite way," Gillibrand countered.

Posting of minister’s sister in Nacta draws flak
[DAWN] Appointment of a Lahore College for Women University’s assistant professor, who happens to be the sister of Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul, in the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) has generated a debate about meritocracy of the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

(PTI) government.

Shabnam Gul, a BPS-18, was serving as assistant professor in the International Relations Department of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and was appointed as director (BPS-19) in Nacta, Islamabad, on deputation for three years.

According to a notification of Nacta, "The services of Ms Shabnam Gul, Assistant Professor, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) are required for her posting against an available vacant post of Director (BS-19) in NACTA in Islamabad on a deputation basis".

Responding to criticism in the mainstream as well as social media, Federal Information and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry defended the appointment. In a tweet, he said Ms Gul held a PhD in terrorism and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and she was selected for the Nacta post after an interview.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the media reports claimed that Ms Gul had yet to complete her PhD.

LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Farkhanda Manzoor confirmed to Dawn that Nacta had requisitioned that the services of Ms Gul be placed at its disposal.

Franklin Graham, James Dobson and Others Faith Leaders to Pray for President Donald Trump This Sunday
[Political Insider] Prayer fills scores of American churches on Sundays and countless other days, but an organized group of faith leaders has pledged to take part in a specially designated day of prayer for President Donald Trump on Sunday, June 2.

"We the undersigned are calling for June 2 to be a SPECIAL Day of Prayer for the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, that God would protect, strengthen, embolden, and direct him," the faith leaders have shared across the internet and with their followers and many other faithful," they wrote in their message, distributed widely online.

"We believe our nation is at a crossroads, at a dangerous precipice," they also said. "The only one who can fix our country’s problems is God Himself, and we pray that God will bless our president and our nation for His glory."

Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, came up with the idea several weeks ago while on a preaching tour in Vermont.

Rodrigo Duterte says meeting ex-wife ‘cured' him of being gay
[NY Post] Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte told a crowd in Japan that he was once gay but "cured" himself of homosexuality when he married his first wife.

Duterte, 74, made the remarks on Thursday during a speech in Tokyo after he accused his political opponent and critic Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV of being gay.

"I said, ‘Are you sure?' They said, ‘You ask any gay person who sees Trillanes move, they'll say he's gay.' No wonder. Good thing Trillanes and I are similar. But I cured myself," Duterte said, according to the Rappler news site.

"Duterte is gay. So I am gay, I don't care if I'm gay or not," the president later said.

The controversial leader has a history of making controversial remarks about the LGBT community.

In 2016, he called the US ambassador to his country a "gay son of a bitch" in a speech.

A year later, he said that under Philippine law marriage was only for a man and a woman but later backtracked to say he believes the law can be changed to allow same-sex marriage.

In Tokyo, Duterte said when he began a relationship with his ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman, "I became a man again."

The president also added that he was cured by "beautiful women" before he invited several women on stage and kissed them on the cheek.

Duterte and Zimmerman were married for nearly three decades before their marriage was annulled in 2000.

Swalwell says CNN may have to move Atlanta headquarters over anti-abortion law
I was tempted to file this under 'Orbits'.
[Fox News] Rep. Eric Swalwell, the Democratic presidential hopeful, said in a town hall Sunday that CNN might have to consider moving its headquarters from Atlanta over Georgia’s new abortion law that would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

Swalwell, who has been working on separating himself from a crowded Democratic field, was greeted by applause during the CNN town hall when he said that women's reproductive rights would be a top priority as president. He said he would appoint justices who uphold the law and he would work to repeal the 1976 Hyde Amendment, which blocks federal Medicare funding for abortion services.

Jim Sciutto, the CNN moderator, asked about companies threatening to halt business in the state known as "Hollywood of the South" or "Y'allywood" due to its attractive tax incentives for production.

"Yeah, if that law goes into effect and CNN might have to move," he said. "There's a lot of young women who work at CNN who’ll be affected."

Swallwell, a vocal critic of President Trump, has had a challenging time attracting momentum early on in the 2020 contest.

Netflix blinked first and now other major Hollywood studios say they may reevaluate filming in Georgia if the state's abortion law goes into effect.

WarnerMedia, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment and the Walt Disney Co. followed the streaming service's lead last week with a deluge of statements, breaking a three-week silence from the big players in entertainment on the controversial law that would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks.

"If the new law holds we will reconsider Georgia as the home to any new productions," read a statement from WarnerMedia Thursday.

The subsidiary of AT&T also oversees TBS, TNT and CNN.

May I suggest St Louis, or maybe Detroit? I've heard that office rent in Baltimore is expectantly cheap there.
