Afghanistan
International Olympic Committee announces $560 thousand in aid to Afghan athletes
[KhaamaPress] Chief of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach announced that they will give up to 33 Afghan athletes $560 thousand in coming months as part of their humanitarian aids to the athletes.

Thomas Bach at the end of a two-day meeting of the committee’s executive board said, the amount of money that is allocated to both the athletes of the Olympics and Paralympics will be distributed through United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The chief also thanked the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
for supporting all sports administrations that are still active in Afghanistan and that the Taliban allowed IOC’s humanitarian aids to reach Afghan athletes.

International Olympic Committee has so far evacuated up to 300 Afghan athletes, coaches, and Afghanistan’s Olympic staff.

Bach said that their process of taking out Afghan athletes will continue but added that it has now become difficult without evacuation operations.

He acknowledged that they are in contact with a number of countries to provide them with humanitarian visas for Afghan athletes.

The humanitarian aids with Afghan athletes come as a sport is a sector that affected the most after the Taliban’s takeover.

Most Afghan athletes have ended their career as there is no more sponsors and income through sport.

Taliban’s provincial governors directed to resolve problems of those seeking asylum abroad
Revealing the iron fist in the iron glove.
[KhaamaPress] In a recent decree, supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Mullah Hebtullah Akhund directed all the provincial governors of Afghanistan to solve the problems of those who are fleeing Afghanistan and seeking asylum elsewhere.

A statement released by the spokesperson’s office of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan reads that people who are going abroad are facing various problems both on the way and in refugee camps.

The statement further reads that Afghan refugees confront the problems of security, ethical degeneration, and other humanitarian issues.

"Some inflammatory programs endanger belief, ethics, and spiritual values. Afghans are mostly made to fabricate anti-Islam documents to gain citizenship. People who must utilize their ability and professionalism inside Afghanistan, go abroad and do some inferior jobs." Reads the statement.

Hence, the statement directed all provincial governors and religious scholars to meet these people and resolve their problems.

Heads of the provinces were also asked to escalate efforts for the security of people especially the security of businessmen, investors, and specialists in order to convince them to stay in their country and work.

It comes as hundreds of thousands of Afghans are still finding ways to flee Afghanistan and seek asylum abroad.

Anas Haggani: World's Terms for Govt Recognition 'Unjust'
No taqqiya, for once.
[ToloNews] The international community's lack of recognition for the current Afghan government is unjust, an official of the Islamic Emirate said on Wednesday.

After nearly four months have passed since the fall of the country to the Islamic Emirate, foreign countries have yet to recognize the current Afghan government.

The UN General Assembly voted to defer a decision on Afghanistan's representation at the world body, meaning that the ambassador from the former government will retain his seat for the time being. The Islamic Emirate had proposed Suhail Shaheen as the new representative.

Anas Haqqani, a member of the Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, said that imposing conditions and applying force would not pave the way for resolving Afghan problems.

"This is the injustice of the world toward Afghanistan. Earlier they talked about (called for) peace and security and now they have imposed new conditions and say that these should be accepted," he said.

In the wake of a political changes that took place in mid-August, Afghanistan has plunged into an economic and humanitarian crisis. There are also serious concerns about an imminent collapse of Afghanistan's economy and banking system.

Political analysts say that Afghanistan is in grave need of engagement with the international community, warning that if the current crisis remains unsolved, the people will be severely damaged.

"The international community doesn’t have a particular responsibility to recognize Afghanistan. This situation may last for years but the sanctions put on Afghanistan affects the people," said Toreq Farhadi, a political analyst.

"The world has turned into a shared home today (an interrelated community). A country without international relations and contacts is unable to make progress," said Imran Afghan, a political analyst.

To recognize the Afghan government, the international community has demanded that the Islamic Emirate remain committed to the formation of an inclusive government, the rights of women, and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
As the existing crisis has engulfed the country in a variety of ways, a big part of the country’s population has been scrambling with severe poverty. Over $9 billion of Afghanistan’s central bank assets have remained frozen.

"The international community should not leave the nation because the nation has this government," said Noor Zaman, a resident of Kabul.

"The international community and Islamic Emirate should reach an agreement, so the Afghanistan economic problems will be solved," said Mohammad Hussain, another resident.

Africa Subsaharan
I'll No Longer Mediate For Bandits— Sheikh Gumi
[SAHARAREPORTERS] Controversial Islamic holy man, Ahmad Gumi, says he has quit mediating for armed bandidos following their declaration as murderous Moslems by the court.

Gumi had visited bandidos in the forests in Zamfara and Niger states, taken medical services to them and has been urging the Nigerian government to grant them a general amnesty as was done for gunnies in the Niger Delta.

Before he started his campaign, the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, and his counterparts in Katsina, Aminu Masari, had engaged bandidos in their state in dialogue.

But after the approach failed to end the menace, the governors endorsed military actions against the bandidos.
Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his Niger State counterpart, Abubakar Sani, have consistently opposed negotiating with the outlaws.

Gumi had said his efforts in that campaign were for the sake of peace and economic prosperity of Nigeria, but lamented that the efforts have been sabotaged

Caribbean-Latin America
Guatemalan president says he's had no direct contact with White House since border czar Kamala Harris' June meeting
But now she has a new omelet pan!
[FoxNews] Alejandro Giammattei says US appears more interested in new left-wing president-elect of Honduras.

Giammattei said that there is "much to be done" to fix the migration crisis affecting both nations, as Guatemalans flee, often illegally, into the United States.

On Harris' stated focus on "root causes" of migration in Central America, Giammattei suggested on "America Reports" that the crisis is not a single-faceted issue.

"First of all, migration can’t be stopped on the basis of circumstantial causes. It needs to be stopped on the basis of structural causes," he said, pointing to the drug cartels that are largely in Mexico who also smuggle Guatemalans and other humans into the U.S.

"It’s a big business to run trafficking-person schemes. It’s a $4 billion business for these criminals. And therefore we need to address structural causes," Giammattei added.

Giammattei recalled telling Harris that as a former prosecutor in California, she likely understands the U.S. criminal code can be strengthened to better eradicate the problems.

He told Roberts that the federal government could better enforce and strengthen federal crime statutes against coyotes or the individual human traffickers themselves.

"Then the U.S. can ask us to expand our extradition conditions -- and with that, these coyotes would land in a federal prison with very severe penalties. This is something that drug traffickers fear," Giammattei said.

#3  I’m not sure what differentiates an omelette pan from other small, fast-heating pans, but the nice people at Cooks Illustrated/America’s Test Kitchen recommend Matfer Bourgeat’s Black Carbon Steel Fry Pan. It is a French brand, but can be ordered inexpensively from Amazon. They prefer the hand-forged pans from Blu Skillet Ironware, but their stuff sells out as fast as it’s made despite costing six times as much.

Italy welcoming Afghan Refugees
[KhaamaPress] Italia’s local media have reported that the country is welcoming Afghan refugees to the country who have been granted refugee status.

Along with other European countries, the US, and the UK, Italia is one of these countries where a large number of Afghans are finding ways to, seeking asylum.

Among others, Prato which is an industrialized province of Italia has been welcoming a large number of Afghan refugees.

The province has been welcoming Afghan asylum seekers since September this year and is estimated to welcome up to three thousand people.

As per the reports, specific reception paths have been set up where women with children will be welcomed in apartments to preserve their unity.

In the meantime, the University of Florence that is one of the prominent universities in Italia has allocated 26 scholarships for Afghan students to complete their education.

Italia was one of the key countries that contributed well during the Kabul evacuation both in taking it’s national and Afghans out of Afghanistan.

France frees Saudi man mistakenly held over Khashoggi killing
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[Jpost] France on Wednesday released a Saudi national arrested at a Paris airport over suspected links to the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi after officials concluded it was a case of mistaken identity.

French law enforcement sources had identified the man in detention as Khaled Aedh Al-Otaibi, the same name as a former member of the Saudi Royal Guard listed in U.S. and British sanctions documents and a UN-commissioned report as having been involved in Khashoggi's killing in Turkey.

The Saudi Embassy in Paris had said late on Tuesday the arrested person "has nothing to do with the case in question."

Prosecutors said checks had shown that an arrest warrant issued by Turkey did not apply to the man. Earlier, a police source said he had been detained when a scan of his passport triggered an alert.

"Extensive checks on the identity of this person showed that the warrant did not apply to him... he was released," the statement from the prosecutor's office said.

The Saudi national had been visiting Paris with a friend and held a valid visa for France, a source familiar with the matter said after the man's release. He shared the same first name and family name as al-Otaibi, but not the same patronymic name. Nor did his passport number match the wanted suspect's passport number, the source added.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post journalist and critic of Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was last seen entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, 2018. Turkish officials believe his body was dismembered and removed. His remains have not been found.

CONFUSION
A senior French police official said he was baffled by events. The man held overnight had made several European trips in past months and entered France in November without issue, he added, requesting anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

When news of the arrest in Paris first broke, rights groups and Khashoggi's fiancee had expressed relief that such a high-profile suspect had been caught.

A 2019 UN investigation report said Al-Otaibi was a member of a 15-man Saudi team involved in killing Khashoggi after the journalist went to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to obtain a document to allow him to marry his fiancee.

The arrest had come at a sensitive time for the countries involved.

President Emmanuel Macron had days earlier become the first major Western leader to hold face-to-face talks with Prince Mohammed in the kingdom, a major buyer of French arms, since Khashoggi's murder.

Macron considers Saudi Arabia vital to help forge a region-wide peace deal with Iran, as well as an ally in the fight against Islamist militants from the Middle East to West Africa, and a rampart against the Muslim Brotherhood.

Turkey initially sought to pile international pressure on Prince Mohammed after Khashoggi's murder, saying the order had come from the highest level of the Saudi government, but Ankara has recently appeared to favor mending relations.
