German press reports that at least two people have been killed after gunmen opened fire outside a synagogue in Germany on Yom Kippur. Two attackers, believed to be wearing a military-style uniforms, opened fire with a submachine gun. A grenade was also thrown into the Jewish cemetery before the attackers fled. Man hunt under way.

My prediction, and this is a long shot, is that regardless, Turkey will initiate the journey of some 20,000 refugees, or even as few at 5,000, enough to be large enough to not be bothered as they walk to a major European city, preferably with some symbolism. Say, Vienna. Only instead of Kara Mustafa Pasha and a dredge of wailing imams leading the horde, it will be Doctors without Borders, the video production arm of Red Crescent, and the fokkin Pope, and everyone who asks where the food and winter clothing is coming from gets branded a white nationalist or Nazi.

[BBC] A Pakistani court is due to hear an appeal to free a doctor accused of helping the US track down al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.
The Peshawar High Court will hear Shakil Afridi's case on Wednesday, the first time it will be heard in an open court in Pakistan.
He was never formally charged for his role in the 2011 operation to hunt down and kill the world's most-wanted man.
Dr Afridi has always argued that he was denied a fair trial.
His imprisonment caused outrage and saw the US cut federal aid to Pakistan by $33m (£27m) - $1m for every year of his jail sentence.

Iran is sending these forces to provide security for the Arbaeen Pilgrimage, a Shia religious ceremony, claimed the commander of the "special unit law enforcement force" Gen. Hassan Karami, reported the semi-official Mehr news agency on Monday.

Responding in parliament to criticism of the French government from some opposition politicians for not publicly defending Kurdish forces in the face of a possible Ottoman Turkish offensive, Edouard Philippe said Gay Paree had not wavered on its policy unlike Washington.
"The fight against ISIS (ISIS) is not over and continues alongside the (Kurdish-led) Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)," Phillipe told politicians.
"Saying things with constancy and coherence is preferable to reacting to obvious hesitations from certain players notably our American friends," Philippe said, alluding to differences in the US administration.

"We are now looking into all options to deter a Ottoman Turkish attack, including communicating with Moscow and Damascus in the event that there is an American void," said a Syrian Kurdish official in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya English.
A potential collaboration between the SDF and al-Assad would be an alliance of convenience against Ankara. The two parties are not allied but have previously cooperated in the fight against ISIS ...embracing their inner Islamic Brute... in SDF-controlled northeast Syria.
The possible cooperation follows US President Donald Trump ...His ancestors didn't own any slaves... ’s order on Sunday for American troops to withdraw from northern Syria, a decision that enables Turkey to attack Kurdish forces inside Syria.
Turkey considers the SDF as an enemy due to its links with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a Kurdish organization based in Turkey which has fought the Ankara government for Kurdish independence.
Trump’s order will remove the buffer of US troops preventing a Ottoman Turkish assault on SDF-controlled territory. The order came into effect Monday with about 50 to 100 US special operators pulling out of the area.
The Ottoman Turkish military carried out strikes overnight on Monday, targeting the Syrian-Iraqi border to prevent Kurdish forces using the route to reinforce northeast Syria, according to two unnamed Ottoman Turkish officials cited by Rooters.
According to Rooters, Ankara aims to drive out Kurdish forces from northeastern Syria and create a space to resettle the two million Syrian refugees currently in Turkey.
The SDF, with help of the US-led coalition, has spent years gaining ground in northern and eastern Syria against ISIS.
American political and military experts have expressed fear that pulling out troops would mean a possible resurgence of ISIS and would be a betrayal to the Kurds.
"We [The US] want to prevent an attack on the Kurds, who have fought against ISIS and now face the possibility of Ottoman Turkish incursion or perhaps an attack by the regime," International Crisis Group CEO Rob Malley told Al Arabiya English in an interview last month.

Initial reporting on the US decision to leave two observation posts and so abandon the Kurds to a Ottoman Turkish invasion was highly exaggerated due to diverse ‐ often competing ‐ motives. Those two posts on the Ottoman Turkish border are not located in Kurdish territory. For now, there is no sign of the bulk of US forces quitting their air and other bases in Syria. Neither are Ottoman Turkish forces seen to be preparing to attack Kurdish towns in northern Syria. American training and its flow of equipment continue uninterrupted for the Syrian Defense Forces, of which the Kurdish YPG is the backbone.
As an added deterrent, President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... warned Turkey on Monday night if it "goes too far" ‐ meaning that if President Recep Erdogan carries out his repeated threats to attack the Syrian Kurds to clear them out of the regions abutting on the Ottoman Turkish border ‐ the Turks "would suffer the wrath of an extremely decimated economy" which is already in a very bad way.
