Turkey will open military base in Somalia in April
According to the Yeni Safak newspaper, the Turkish Army will train Somalia troops and troops from other African countries at the base, which has been under construction near Somalia’s airport in Mogadishu since March 2015. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and General Staff’s Chief Gen. Hulusi Akar are expected to take part in the official opening ceremony, which is due to take place in April.

The construction costs reportedly make up $50 million. About 500 soldiers will be able to train at the same time, the base occupies 400 hectares and includes three military schools, dormitories and depots.

Somalia has been mired in an armed conflict with Islamist militants for about two decades. The crisis has significantly undermined the positions of the country’s government within the country’s territory and made it rely on foreign assistance, with Turkey being one of the main investors and aid providers.

Hezbollah Financier Arrested In Morocco Following US Request
An alleged financier of the terrorist group Hezbollah was arrested in Morocco Thursday at the behest of US authorities, according to South African online publication News 24. Lebanese businessman Kassim Tajeddine was reportedly detained in Casablanca on Sunday while on his way from Guinea to Beirut, his lawyer said in a brief statement.

“We now know there is an extradition order from the US authorities,” the lawyer added.

According to News 24, US Treasury officials believe Tajeddine is “an important financial contributor to Hezbollah," being listed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist since 2009.

The US Treasury Department claims that Tajeddine, through a multinational business venture, used a money laundering scheme to funnel cash to the Shi'te militant organization.

Will Daesh threat cause China to revise terror response?
[VOA] Daesh released a video earlier this month explicitly threatening China with attacks on its soil. Analysts say that as China seeks to expand influence its nationals are being exposed to a greater terror threat — and Beijing is having to adapt. The video purports to show Chinese ethnic Uighurs fighting for Daesh in Iraq who threaten to return home and shed "rivers of blood."

The video invokes the persecution by Beijing of majority-Muslim Uighurs in Xinjiang. China tightly controls access to the region and verifying reports of attacks there is difficult.

Analyst Raffaello Pantucci of Britain's Royal United Services Institute said, "This year at least two potential attacks so far and a number of other odd incidents taking place. And we've seen the governor in Xinjiang province actually having a very heavy clampdown and a very visible escalation of the security presence in the region, all of which suggests that China is increasingly concerned about the problems related to terrorism and extremism, and clearly IS is part of that picture."

Daesh may be a common enemy, but there has been little coordination between China and the global coalition fighting the group, says Mathieu Duchatel of the European Council on Foreign Relations. He said, "China wants support from Western states on its policies in Xinjiang. China considers that the anti-terror efforts that it is leading in Xinjiang are not being endorsed by countries in the West and the response in Europe at least is that there is a lack of transparency."

"China has a category which it calls the three evils. Terrorism, extremism and separatism are put together in the same basket," Duchatel said.

China adopted a law in 2015 allowing military deployment overseas on anti-terror missions. But Duchatel says working alongside Western or Russian forces against Daesh remains unlikely. He said, "The long-standing approach to terrorist risks for China has been to avoid attracting too much attention and becoming a target."

Erdogan urges Turks to Outbreed Whites in Europe
[AP] ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Turks living in Europe to have at least five children, saying it would be the best response to Europe's "injustices."

Erdogan made the comments Friday while campaigning in the city of Eskisehir for a referendum that would usher in a presidential system and enhance his powers.

The Turkish leader has unleashed scathing rhetoric toward European nations -- especially the Netherlands -- after Turkish ministers were prevented from carrying out campaign meetings there.

On Friday, Erdogan told Turks in Europe: "Go live in better neighborhoods. Drive the best cars. Live in the best houses. Make not three, but five children. Because you are the future of Europe. That will be the best response to the injustices against you."

Canada: Invaders from 13 Countries "Can't Be Deported"
[The New Observer] Illegal invaders pretending to be refugees from 13 Third World states who cross into Canada from the U.S. cannot be deported, no matter how flimsy their "asylum" claims might be.

According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), invaders claiming to be from Somalia, the Gaza Strip, Syria, Mali, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Burundi, Haiti, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Iraq, will not be deported from Canada no matter what their personal circumstances might be.

The CBSA has two categories of non-deportation countries. The first, "Administrative deferral of removals" (ADR), is "meant to be a temporary measure when immediate action is needed to temporarily defer removals in situations of humanitarian crisis."

According to the CBSA, once the "situation in a country stabilizes the ADR is lifted and the CBSA resumes removals for individuals who are inadmissible to Canada and have a removal order in effect. "

However, as most invaders already know, once they have been granted any sort of legal status in Canada, it becomes almost impossible to remove them once again.

#8  Don't fall for the usual news type thinking. When all the legal paths have been exhausted there are deportations for sure . . . . . . and quite a few of them are not nice at all, sometimes involving blindfolds, handcuffs and more. It just takes time, but when it had been done, it is final.

Turkish Amb to Israel: Iran's Regional Ambitions Must Be Contained
Turkey shares Jerusalem’s concern about Iran’s regional ambitions and nuclear potential but differ when it comes to strategy, the country’s new ambassador to Israel, Kemal Okem, told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.

Iran’s “nuclear file is a concern for everyone,” said Okem, speaking briefly to the Post after delivering a wide ranging policy speech at Tel Aviv University that was followed by a question and answer session.

Ankara, he said, believes the best way forward is through containment not isolation.

“We have had a common border [with Iran] for hundreds of years which remains unchanged. They see us as a strategic competitor... We saw the need for engaging and containing their ambitions,” he said.

With regard to Iran in Syria, he said he sees a “little bit” of progress in that Iran had assumed some kind of responsibility, while on the topic of Russia in Syria, he said to the Israelis in the room: “Good luck, you have a new neighbor.”

The ambassador said the threat from terrorism and Islamic State can be found in Berlin and Istanbul and that Turkey is part of the international battle against extremism and ISIS. Both Muslims and Jews should be fighting this battle, he said.

“Terrorism is a global phenomenon it is always there and it won’t go away without a global fight,” which is one of the reasons, he said, Turkey must continue its cooperation with Europe.

“There are some misperceptions about Turkey’s role and policies and this should be corrected,” Okem said, explaining that his country was not shifting away form the Western World.

On the issue of Gaza, he said Turkey supported its people but not Hamas.

“We do not accept the linear analogy that is trying to be established that every one living in Gaza belongs to Hamas and is a terrorist. We do not accept this. We have to distinguish between people who are suffering and people who happen to be members of Hamas as a political party,” he said.

It is important for Turkey, he said, that it is providing financial assistance to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza as part of its return to normalized diplomatic ties with Israel following a five-year freeze, and is thankful to Israel for the help and cooperation it has shown in helping Ankara with this mission, which includes support for an industrial park in Jenin and a hospital in Gaza.

#3  If the Turks shade toward Israel, it is because they are very wise. Once various Jihad groups, Syria & Hezbollah exhaust themselves killing one another, they can roll them up in a mutually beneficial exercise. Iran is too far away to help and US is no longer in their corner.

#4  "..Iran's Regional Ambitions Must Be Contained.."

Which is one reason why Turkey has troops in Iraq even though the Iraqis say it is a violation of sovereignty.

#5  Which is one reason why Turkey has troops in Iraq

That and keeping an eye on the Kurds.

#6  Kurds also a big reason why Iran has their folks in Iraq.
Posted by: Mullah Richard || 03/19/2017 10:40 Comments || Top||

#7  yes the Kurds are a second reason for Turkey's interest

the third reason is history - Ottoman empire occupied Iraq for three hundred years (in two separate occupations interrupted by a Mamluk occupation) and it was sometimes pretty brutal and always favored the Sunni - a fair number of Iraqis speak turkish

#8  The Turks are crazy but not stupid, the Mullahs are just flat crazy.

The Turks know a nuclear strike on Israel will pollute large areas of southeast Turkey with radioactive fallout...the Mullahs don't seem to give a shit if the prevailing winds blow fallout all over Jordan, Iraq and Southwestern Iran.

I guess all of those genius nuke scientists in Soddy and Iran didn't study the effects of nuclear weapons quite as thoroughly as US educated physicists.
