-War on Police-
Day 10: The Chauvin Trial So Far
A very long article on the Derek Chauvin trial by Powerline's John Hinderaker, a lawyer who lives in Minnesota and has been following the story. He relates that the trial is nearing the end of the prosecution's case and, after a number of astute observations, concludes as follows:
Again, the jury is likely to be surprised. Far from claiming that the officers’ kneeling on Floyd—entirely proper, at least for the first five minutes or so—killed him outright, I expect the prosecution will argue that the officers’ restraint was a contributing factor in the larger context of Floyd’s drug overdose and other health issues. Minnesota law says that a defendant can be guilty of manslaughter or murder if his wrongful conduct was a "substantial causal factor" in the decedent’s death.

When this trial began, I doubt that any juror expected the prosecution to argue that whatever Derek Chauvin did was not the sole cause, or the primary cause, of George Floyd’s death, but rather a "substantial causal factor" along with a fentanyl overdose and other serious health issues. Will the jury be willing to destroy Derek Chauvin’s life and send him to prison on this theory?

That raises, once again, the question of whether Derek Chauvin can possibly get a fair trial. Everyone knows that if the jury doesn’t convict, and probably if it doesn’t convict Chauvin of murder, the city of Minneapolis will go up in flames. This is why the power of the state is arrayed so unanimously against him. Chauvin may have misjudged, may have screwed up, for four minutes on May 25, 2020. But he is being sacrificed to raisons d’État.

Everyone is against him, including his own police department. The three officers who were with Chauvin on May 25, and who also have been charged, presumably won’t testify. Their lawyers will insist that they take the 5th—as, by the way, Floyd’s drug dealer did yesterday. The dealer was with Floyd on May 25 and pled the 5th on the ground that he may be prosecuted for supplying Floyd with the overdose of fentanyl that killed him. But the jury won’t see that.

The trial so far as been the world vs. Derek Chauvin and Eric Nelson. While the "dream team" prosecution has rotated counsel from the Attorney General’s office and various high-priced lawyers from Minnesota and D.C. who are working for free, Eric Nelson, outmanned and outgunned, has stood up alone for his client. Over the last two weeks, he has grown visibly tired and yesterday he lost control over some exhibits through sheer exhaustion. (No one who hasn’t tried a jury case, even one of relatively modest length like the Chauvin trial, can understand what hard work it is.) Maybe the jury will look down on him, compared with the well-heeled prosecution team. Then again, maybe they will relate to a classic underdog story.

The trial’s result likely will come down to the medical testimony on both sides that we have not yet seen. But so far, I think Chauvin’s defense has held its own, and probably has surprised most members of the jury. The political class may have expected to usher Derek Chauvin off to a speedy oblivion for the sake of a greater good, but instead, they have a fight on their hands.
Courtesy of Mercutio, the local independent news site Alpha News liveblog of week 1 (week 2 can be seen here):
Dr. Andrew Baker says medical examiners do not see pressure to the back of the neck in cases of asphyxiation or strangulation.

Medical examiner testifies that it appears Chauvin's knee was on George Floyd's back and not on his neck. Even if it was on Floyd's neck, blocking an artery, Floyd's other artery "would continue to supply blood to the brain," he says.

Medical examiner Dr. Andrew Baker says George Floyd had "very severe underlying heart disease" and that his "heart weighed more than it should."

Because of these "heart conditions," the law enforcement subdual was "more than Mr. Floyd could take," he adds.

I predict a either a mistrial,
or a "Mob Acceptable" applied Guilty verdict that will be appealed in 2 to 4 years and then won.

BTW:
Watched the Boob-Tube video of a medical examiners testimony ...

It all ame off as looking like the medical examiners were guarded and/or almost in fear. Carefully picking the words they should use to keep a job, a family and themself safe.

One of the medical examiners came off as practicing WOKE Speech and persona.

#4  All they need to do is convince the jury that that would be DOXed [and then torn limb from limb by the mostly peaceful protesters] unless they convict.

#5  After this many days of trial even the most conscientious jurors would rather be watching the Lithuanian National Curling Team than more testimony. So they're looking all over the courtroom for anything that catches their eye. They've seen all of Eric Nelson's suits, and some of them are hoping that for God's sake Prosecutor No. 2 would stop wearing that puke-green tie. One thing I haven't read anything about is the eyeballing between the jurors and Chauvin. (They can't talk to each other but they can and do look at each other.) The prosecution wants the jury to think that Chauvin is a heartless killer, but the longer the prosecution stretches out the trial the more the jury gets accustomed to Chauvin sitting there like a normal human being.

#6  I cannot imagine anywhere post conviction that won't see Chauvin in imminent danger from the wide selection of inmates and guards who will see him as the devil incarnate. His life is over effectively, but more importantly, its a purposeful cautionary tale for everyone in law enforcement to consider how much risk to take to effect an arrest. Not a good thing since it teaches clearly not to trust your own agency when POC arrests are involved. More proof of the two tier justice system blossoming that won't preserve the rule of law for much longer.

Afghanistan
Al Qaeda Operates in 18 Afghan Provinces: Report
[ToloNews] Al Qaeda and its regional affiliate, al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, continue to operate across Afghanistan despite repeated Taliban
...Arabic for students...
claims by the Taliban that the group is no longer present in the country, according to a report by Long War Journal.

Based on the report, al Qaeda and other groups associated with it have been involved in perpetrating dozens of attacks across Afghanistan following the US-Taliban peace agreement last February.

"Al Qaeda’s enduring presence in Afghanistan is visible both through press reporting on Coalition operations against the terror group, and Thabat, al Qaeda’s own media arm that has noted the groups operate in 18 provinces," said the report.

The report states that Thabat, a weekly Al Qaeda newsletter that covers its operations across the globe and is analogous to ISIS’s Al Naba news service, has noted multiple reports of Al Qaeda’s activities in Afghanistan.

"Afghan press reports from Sept. 2020 to present confirm that al Qaeda and its allies are operating in seven of the provinces noted by Thabat," according to the report by Long War Journal.

Badakhshan, Balkh, Faryab, Farah, Ghazni, Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Jawzjan, Kapisa, Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
, Takhar, Urozgan, Zabul and Khost are the among those provinces where Al Qaeda has continues its foothold.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch shot Black Bart's other gun out of his other hand......
the Afghan Ministry of Defense also confirmed that Taliban still has ties with al Qaeda despite its commitments to US to severe ties with all krazed killer groups in Afghanistan, including al Qaeda.

"Relations between al Qaeda and the Taliban have been so close. Our security forces have targeted key al Qaeda members in various regions," said Rohullah Ahmadzai, a front man for the Ministry of Defense.

Afghan authorities said that they have conducted an operation against al Qaeda in Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province.

"The hard boyz are present there and they have close ties with international terrorist groups and are posing serious threats to the Afghan people and the entire world," said Zakaria Sawda, the governor of Badakhshan.

"Our security forces have seen foreigners who are helping them (Taliban). Al Qaeda is also present there and is helping the Taliban in the fight and planting landmines," said Jamal Barakzai, a front man for Kandahar police headquarters.

"They see their strength in their unity with religious snuffies like al Qaeda and other fundamentalist groups," said military analyst Mohammad Ishaq Rahguzar.

The UN sanctions committee has previously estimated the number of al Qaeda operatives in Afghanistan 400 to 600.

Taliban has denied these reports saying that the group has no ties with al Qaeda.

Neighbouring States to Send Troops to Mozambique
[All Africa] With the lives of an estimated 50,000 people in Mozambique's northern province of Cabo Delgado disrupted by recent holy warrior attacks, the country's neighbours are reported to be planning to send troops to the province.Five heads of state who met in Maputo on Thursday limited themselves in a communique issued afterwards to saying that their summit had "directed an immediate SADC... technical deployment" to Mozambique, followed by further summits at the end of April.

But according to Zim-bob-we's President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the regional grouping, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), is planning to send troops from its "Force Intervention Brigade" to Mozambique.

Quoted on Friday in the state-controlled Herald newspaper in Harare, Mnangagwa said the SADC force "should be resuscitated and capacitated immediately so that it can intervene" in Mozambique. The summit was chaired by President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique and also attended by presidents Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.

In an update on the festivities in the Palma district of Cabo Delgado which began on March 24, the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
World Food Programme (WFP) said 50,000 people impacted by the attacks needed emergency food aid.

When the attacks began, the WFP said, more than 70,000 civilians were estimated to be living in Palma — half of them having already fled previous violence in other parts of the province. As of April 3, 10,000 people who fled Palma after March 24 had arrived in other districts of Cabo Delgado by foot, bus, boat and air.

"The recent episodes of violence in Palma contribute to WFP's growing concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian and food security situation brought on by escalating insecurity and displacement in Cabo Delgado," the WFP added. "More than 950,000 people in Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Nampula [other northern provinces of Mozambique] are now facing severe hunger, while 53 percent of children suffer from chronic malnutrition in Cabo Delgado."

The United Nations Refugee Agency has reported that more than 670,000 people have been displaced in Cabo Delgado since the insurgency began in 2017.

In another development, the state-owned Notícias newspaper in Maputo has quoted a victim of the Palma festivities as saying the attackers included armed children between the ages of nine and 12. "If confirmed," reports the monitoring agency Cabo Ligado, "his report would be the first confirmed instance of Cabo Delgado holy warriors utilizing child soldiers in an attack."

Ethiopia: 1,900 people killed in massacres in Tigray identified
Almost 2,000 people killed in more than 150 massacres by soldiers, paramilitaries and Death Eaters in Tigray have been identified by researchers studying the conflict. The oldest victims were in their 90s and the youngest were infants.

The identifications are based on reports from a network of informants in the northern Æthiopian province run by a team at the University of Ghent in Belgium. The team, which has been studying the conflict in Tigray since it broke out last year, has crosschecked reports with testimony from family members and friends, media reports and other sources.

The list is one of the most complete public records of the mass killing of civilians during the war, and will increase international pressure on Æthiopia’s prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, who has claimed that many reports of atrocities are exaggerated or fabricated.

Arabia
Yemen reopens main airport after 6-year suspension due to al-Qaeda
[AlAhram] The Civil Aviation Authority of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
said in a brief press statement on Friday that it was pleased to fully resume air navigation at al-Rayyan International Airport located in the country's oil-rich province of Hadramout
...the formerly independent Qu'aiti state and sultanate, annexed by Communist South Yemen in 1968, encompassing a region along the Gulf of Aden, extending eastwards to the borders of the Dhofar region of Oman. The people are called Hadhramis and speak Hadhrami Arabic. The city Tarimis is estimated to contain the highest concentration of descendants of the Prophet Muhammad (PTUI) anywhere in the world, approximately seven in every square yard...
Yemen's government has announced reopening a main airport for domestic flights in the country's southeastern province of Hadramout after being suspended for nearly six years.

It said that a flight operated by government-owned Yemenia airline was the first to land at the airport coming from the southern port city of Aden.

Al-Rayyan airport, Yemen's third-largest airport, was closed in 2015 when turbans of the Yemen-based al-Qaeda branch took advantage of the ongoing civil war and completely captured the strategic Yemeni city.

The terror elements were heavily deployed across Hadramout after overrunning all the state offices and government institutions including al-Rayyan airport that was partially burned.

An official of Hadramout's local government confirmed to Xinhua that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has largely participated in reopening the al-Rayyan airport through financing and overseeing all the rehabilitation operations.

"The UAE trained hundreds of local Yemeni fighters and played a significant military role in pushing the al-Qaeda turbans out from different areas in Hadramout and recapturing all the government facilities including the airport," the official said anonymously.

He indicated that the UAE began in 2016 with rebuilding the destroyed state facilities instantly after ending the anti-terror military campaign carried out against the al-Qaeda turbans in Hadramout.

Since 2015, the UAE has provided more than 6 billion US dollars in foreign assistance to the war-torn Yemeni regions, according to UAE officials.

The sum was used to help rebuild various sectors in the country, including vital infrastructure, and to restore health and social services.

The UAE is still an active member of the Saudi-led Arab military coalition that has been fighting the Iran-allied Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels in Yemen since March 2015.

The impoverished Arab country has been locked in a civil war since late 2014, when the Houthis overran much of the country and seized all northern provinces including the capital Sanaa.

Greek crime journalist shot dead in Athens in execution-style murder
A prominent Greek crime journalist has been rubbed out in what was described as an "execution-style" murder near his home in Athens.

Giorgos Karaivaz, who sought to illuminate Greece’s seamier underside with his coverage of law and order stories on the private Star TV channel, died of gunshot wounds outside his home in the south of the city.

According to media reports, two men on a cycle of violence drew up beside him and the passenger shot up the journalist as he drove back from work.

Twelve bullet casings were found at the scene and police said Karaivaz was hit at least six times with shots from a 9mm pistol. The weapon was probably muffled with a silencer.

Aristotelia Peloni, a spokesperson for the centre-right government, said the murder had "shocked us all".

“Authorities are already investigating in order to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” she said.

Since the Biden FBI is leading the investigation. If when the whole story behind the shooting is ever told it should be a surprise.

Curious why the ATF got involved in a "claimed" run of the mill shooting?

As we are told the shooters service record listed four awards which included a medal usually awarded for overseas deployment... WHICH he NOT had.

On a side note: Searching "FACTS & DETAILS" is becoming a real challenge. As NEWS Conglomerates owning 200 to 400+ outlets use the same look and feel, and publish the same "canned" usually "Agenda" supporting narrative.

. Then the Base / Community Protectors using "Good" firearms should be credited as heroes for stopping the Murdering "Bad" firearm attempting to kill others.

Summary: Good People with Good Firearms neutralize Bad firearms. If Good People are banned from owning Good Firearms. Then only criminals, loony tunes and Dictatorship forces will have firearms.

Lebanon: Forensic Audit Sparks Internal Dispute
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
’s recent criticism of Banque du Liban’s delay in launching a forensic audit has sparked political controversy.

In a televised speech on Wednesday evening, Aoun said that the political parties "provided cover to the Central Bank, private banks and the Ministry of Finance," pointing to "the responsibility of all governments, departments, ministries, councils and agencies for every penny wasted over the years."

"All of them must be included in the forensic audit," he stated.

"The issue of forensic auditing is at the forefront of the priorities for the reform of the financial and economic situation. It is a battle that deserves and requires the support of all the forces," Hezbollah MP Ibrahim Mousawi stated.

"Banque du Liban has the duty to abide by the law issued for this purpose," he added.

For his part, the head of the Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
, Samir Geagea
...Geagea was imprisoned by the Syrians and their puppets for 11 years in a dungeon in the third basement level of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. He was released after the Cedar Revolution in 2005...
, said that forensic audit was "not a slogan that is occasionally brought up, nor a means to attack a political opponent, but rather a sacred act aimed at reform."

Referring implicitly to Aoun, Geagea asked: "Why haven’t you supported the idea of forensic auditing since the beginning of this tenure despite the majority that you have in the cabinet or in the parliament?"

The political parties believe the Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
(FPM) is holding onto the forensic audit in "an attempt to target its political opponents and conceal its responsibility for the crisis."

Deputy leader of al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
Movement, Mustafa Alloush, emphasized that a forensic audit needed "a government that would be able to take over the task."

A member of the Development and Liberation bloc, MP Ali Bazzi, noted that Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
wanted a complete and comprehensive audit, in line with the law approved by the parliament, starting with the Central Bank.

"We have carried out our legislative duties and now we must see the implementation of the law," he said, referring to a bill passed by the parliament in December to lift banking secrecy on the accounts of officials for a year, and to expand the request for forensic audit in all state institutions, ministries and departments.

Washington's Conditions for Normalizing Ties with Damascus Vs. Criteria for Lifting Sanctions on Syria
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Washington has set seven conditions for lifting sanctions imposed under the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act of 2019. But to normalize ties with Damascus, the US is demanding authorities in the Levantine country to first meet six conditions, four of which have been set before civil war breaking out in 2011.

With nearly three months having passed since the Biden administration took over in Washington, it is becoming more and more evident that Syria is not an immediate priority for the new US leadership.

The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. amid a dispute over billions of dollars seized by Seoul was freed and sailed away early Friday, just hours ahead of further talks between Tehran and world powers over its tattered nuclear deal.

MarineTraffic.com data showed the MT Hankuk Chemi leaving Bandar Abbas in the early morning hours.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry said Iran released the tanker and its captain after seizing the vessel in January. The ministry says the Hankuk Chemi left an Iranian port at around 6 a.m. local time after completing an administrative process.

Iran did not immediately acknowledge the ship had been freed. The ship's owner, DM Shipping Co. Ltd. of Busan, South Korea, could not be immediately reached for comment.

The Hankuk Chemi had been traveling from a petrochemicals facility in Jubail, Soddy Arabia

, to Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates when armed Revolutionary Guard troops stormed the vessel in January and forced the ship to change course and travel to Iran.

Iran had accused the MT Hankuk Chemi of polluting the waters in the crucial Strait of Hormuz. But the seizure was widely seen as an attempt to pressure Seoul to release billions of dollars in Iranian assets tied up in South Korean banks amid heavy American sanctions on Iran.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry did not elaborate on the terms of the ship's release. Iran in February released much of the ship's crew.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency, quoting an anonymous Foreign Ministry official, suggested Seoul may pay off Iran's United Nations

dues that had been in arrears. In January, the U.N. said Iran topped a list of countries owing money to the world body with a minimum bill of over $16 million. If unpaid, Iran could lose its voting rights as required under the U.N. Charter.

"We're expecting to make a considerable progress in terms of paying the U.N. dues," the official said. "We have also exported some $30 million worth of medical equipment since we resumed the humanitarian trade with Iran last April."

The development came as Iran and world powers were set to resume negotiations in Vienna on Friday to break the standoff over U.S. sanctions against Iran and Iranian breaches of the nuclear agreement. The 2015 nuclear accord, which then-President Donald Trump

abandoned three years later, offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.

UN atomic watchdog reports new Iranian breach of nuclear deal
At what point do blinders become treason?
[JPost] While the amount of enriched uranium extracted is small, it amounts to a fresh breach at a delicate stage, as the US and Iran hold indirect talks in Vienna regarding a renegotiation of the deal.

The UN atomic watchdog on Friday flagged a new breach by Iran of its nuclear deal with major powers on the day those powers met to revive the agreement , a report by the agency seen by Reuters showed, likely raising tensions with Western powers.

The International Atomic Energy Agency avoids saying Iran has breached the deal. At the same time, it generally only issues such ad hoc reports to member states in the event of a breach. Two diplomats told Reuters what the report described amounted to a fresh breach.

The breach has to do with what counts officially towards Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium, a highly sensitive issue since that stockpile could be enriched further to weapons-grade material suitable for nuclear bombs if Iran chose to do so. It denies seeking such weapons and says its aims are entirely peaceful.

After the deal was reached in 2015 the parties to it defined what should count towards the stockpile, and excluded items such as scrap fuel plates with uranium enriched to near 20% fissile purity, which were deemed "unrecoverable." Friday's report, however, said Iran had recovered some of that material.

"On 7 April 2021, the Agency verified at the Fuel Plate Fabrication Plant at Esfahan that Iran had dissolved six unirradiated scrap fuel plates for the TRR (Tehran Research Reactor) containing 0.43 kg of uranium enriched up to 20% U-235," the report said.

"A uranyl nitrate solution was extracted and converted into ammonium uranyl carbonate," the report said, adding that Iran aimed to process that further to produce molybdenum, which has many civilian uses including in medical imaging.

While the amount of enriched uranium extracted is small, it amounts to a fresh breach at a delicate stage, since Tehran and the United States are holding indirect talks in Vienna on how they could fully return to the deal.
