Arabia
Hamas criticizes Saudi trials of members, backers
Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, criticizes the secretive criminal trials in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
of dozens of members and supporters of the Paleostinian terror group.

The group, which rules the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, says Saudi authorities detained dozens of "the best of and the most elite of the Paleostinian people residing in Saudi Arabia."
That's damning with faint praise
A popular account on Twitter which focuses on the arrests and trials of dissidents reports that the Saudi government is conducting the trials before the Specialized Criminal Court, a secretive tribunal established to try terrorism cases.

The arrests intensified in 2019 and there has been no official comment from the Saudi government on either the arrests or the trials.

Hamas says the detainees, among them some Jordanians, were held for "supporting the Paleostinian cause." Earlier, a Hamas official explained that this means raising funds and soliciting donations.

Britain
Almost 19,000 children identified as sexual exploitation victims in England
A tip of the hat to Matt. This article is from the end of last year, but a useful summary of the current situation.
[Independent] Campaigners call for action as Sajid Javid’s promised review of grooming gang ’characteristics’ absent from Queen's Speech.

Almost 19,000 children have been sexually groomed in England in the past year, according to official figures that have prompted warnings of an "epidemic".

Campaigners say the true figure is far higher and accused the government of failing to tackle child sexual exploitation, despite promises made after high-profile cases in Rotherham and Rochdale.

#1  Horrific.

Shame on the English for permitting this. Still more shame for surrounding it with denial and lies and bullshit, for years.

Nothing better exemplifies the decadence of our PC-obsessed culture than this atrocity unfolding in plain view of the authorities.

#6  Well under $2 here already. And my oil company based retirement income is looking shaky...
Posted by: Glenmore || 03/10/2020 10:20 Comments || Top||

#7  Why is it that when oil prices fall, it takes a while for the prices at the pump to drop? The explanation is usually that those are the prices at the well, and it takes a while for the crude to be shipped, refined, and finally delivered to the pump.
On the other hand, if prices rise suddenly, prices at the pump go up immediately.
Posted by: Rambler in Virginia || 03/10/2020 10:24 Comments || Top||

#8  Prices at the pump are responsive to market forces on the upside and hence nimble, but slow on the downside as long as elasticity of the storage capacity for products has room.
The huge decline in demand currently will make even California see under $2 buck prices shortly.
Posted by: NoMoreBS || 03/10/2020 11:15 Comments || Top||

#9  For gas to go under $2 in California, I think the per barrel price would have to go to about $25 or so.

California has about a 50 cent per gallon tax and a sales tax and various fees on top of that and most of the counties have their own piggyback sales tax (and the federal tax is about 19 cents per gallon). Also the cost of doing business is high so gas stations get hit with high property taxes, etc.

Posted by: Alaska Paul || 03/10/2020 15:51 Comments || Top||

#14  When M'Lady and I drove down to Carson City from Issaquah WA a couple of years ago, we drove our diesel Ram 2500 down. Got south of Portland OR and filled up and topped off aux tank. Did not stop in CA for diesel. Saved $1 per gallon over California taxes.
Posted by: Alaska Paul || 03/10/2020 15:54 Comments || Top||

#15  Forgas to go under $2 in California, I think the per barrel price would have to go to about $25
Probably below $10 per barrel, due to higher refining costs in addition to higher taxes.
Posted by: Glenmore || 03/10/2020 16:06 Comments || Top||

#16  So when will we see lower prices at the pump? Never?
Most retail gas is not sold by producers or even refiners, but by independent marketers. They buy at $x per gallon, then resell to you - they can't lower prices until they recoup their cost or they are out of business (as it is, their profit is all from the retail market sales associated with the gas station - 50 cent mark-up on that bottle of coke or water, vs maybe 5 cents on that gallon of gas, at most.)
Posted by: Glenmore || 03/10/2020 16:11 Comments || Top||

#17  50 cent mark-up on that bottle of coke or water

Buy a 6 pack of the old style plastic bottle coke at Wally's for 2.50 or one for 1.90 at the station. Gas stations are right up there with movie theaters and airports for incredible markups.

FIR registered against JUI-F leader, 10 others for disrupting Aurat March in Islamabad
[DAWN] Islamabad's Kohsar Police on Monday registered a case against 12 individuals – including local religious leaders and JUI-F's Maulana Abdul Majeed Hizravi – for trying to disrupt yesterday's Aurat March in the capital.

On Sunday, one person was injured after participants of the march in Islamabad were attacked by some men who shouted slogans and pelted stones at them.

The rally was being held in a designated area outside the National Press Club when the incident happened. Police had to intervene to control the the situation before it escalated.

The FIR names 11 leaders – and 300 to 400 unidentified persons – including Maulana Shabir Ahmed Usmani, Maulana Hafiz Maqsood Ahmed, Maulana Rizwan Makki, Mufti Abdullah, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qasmi, Maulana Abdul Rasheed Tauheedi, Maulana Liaquat Ali Turabi, Maulana Nasir Ahmed, Maulana Asadullah Abbasi, Maulana Abdul Majeed Hizravi and Maulana Abdul Razzaq Haidri.

According to the FIR, the leaders incited violence against participants of Aurat March, after which some people pelted stones at the marchers. The miscreants had illegally occupied the road across the National Press Club, the FIR reads, adding that they also tried to enter the premises of the march by using force against security officials present there.

Hamas condemns continued detention of Palestinian officials in #SaudiArabia
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
A Saudi court on Sunday held the first hearing in the case of 68 Palestinian and Jordanian detainees. According to al-Mayadeen, the detainees are charged with “supporting terrorism and financing it” and belonging to “a criminal terrorist entity”.

Senior Hamas official Muhammad al-Khudari and his son Hani, who were arrested last April, were among those who stood trial on Sunday. Al-Khudari represented Hamas in Saudi Arabia between the mid-1990s and 2003. He has held other important positions in the Palestinian resistance movement as well.

Last month, Saudi authorities launched a new campaign of "arbitrary" arrests against Palestinian expatriates on charges of supporting Hamas. The Prisoners of Conscience, a non-governmental organization advocating human rights in Saudi Arabia, announced on February 12 that the kingdom had detained a number of Palestinians, including the relatives or children of those imprisoned last April for the same reason.

Over the past two years, Saudi authorities have deported more than 100 Palestinians from the kingdom, mostly on charges of supporting Hamas financially, politically, or through social networking sites.

Iran hit hardest as oil price war, cornavirus cripples nation
[FOXNEWS] The one-two punch of coronavirus and an escalating oil price war that is roiling world markets is hurting one country more than any other: Iran.

Already dealing with a deadly outbreak, the Islamic Theocratic Republic, heavily dependent on oil revenues, is in no position to deal with the lowest per-barrel prices seen in decades.

"$20 oil in 2020 is coming," tweeted Ali Khedery, a former U.S. official in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. and onetime Middle East expert with Exxon. "Huge geopolitical implications. Timely stimulus for net consumers. Catastrophic for failed/failing petro-kleptocracies Iraq, Iran, etc. - may prove existential 1-2 punch when paired with COVID19."

Iran's oil exports, its main economic lifeline, have been under siege for quite some time. Experts say the escalation of the global price war between Soddy Arabia

, the world's top exporter, and Russia could cripple many nations outside Saudi Arabia, with Iran topping the list.

Oil prices have plunged 30 percent, the largest one-time drop since the 1991 Gulf War. Now, with oil trading around $30 a barrel, many experts say the price isn't one Iran can survive on.

Iran furloughs 70,000 prisoners as it battles virus
[PRESSTV] Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeisi says Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. has temporarily released around 70,000 prisoners in order to prevent a further spread of the new coronavirus.

"Prisoners will continue to be furloughed as long as [this measure] does not interfere with the society’s security," Raeisi told judicial authorities on Monday. "The priority lies with those who have underlying health conditions," he added.

The chief justice said Iran’s judicial apparatus has also prioritized processing the cases of individuals charged with hoarding hygiene products and other medical requirements amid the country’s efforts to curb the outbreak.

"The hoarders will be tried earlier than they are due in open courts, and the hoarded items will soon be distributed throughout the nation," he said.

The novel coronavirus, which first emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, has killed more than 3,800 people and infected over 108,000 others in at least 95 countries.
