Three killed as French army convoy runs into fresh trouble in Niger: Mayor
[AlAhram] A French military convoy heading to Mali on Saturday ran into more trouble in a town in Niger after being delayed for more than a week by protests in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, with the local mayor reporting three deaths and 18 maimed.

The supply convoy, which arrived in Africa in Ivory Coast last week, has crossed Burkina Faso and on Friday entered Niger on its way to central Mali.

Its destination is a base at Gao -- a hub of La Belle France's Barkhane operation, which is shoring up allies in the Sahel against a jihadist insurgency that began in northern Mali nearly a decade ago.

But festivities reportedly broke out at Tera in western Niger on Saturday which the mayor said left "three people dead and 18 maimed," including four who had to be evacuated for treatment in the capital Niamey, 200 kilometres (120 miles) away.

The French army said it was in contact with the Nigerien authorities, but was "not in a position to confirm this toll at this stage".

"No French soldier was maimed," French army front man Pascal Ianni told AFP. But "two civilian drivers in the convoy were hurt by stones and some civilian trucks were damaged."

"The convoy halted last night at Tera. This morning, when they wanted to continue the road to Niamey, they were stopped by 1,000 demonstrators and a violent mostly peaceful group among them tried to take over the trucks," he said.

WARNING SHOTS
Niger gendarmes fired teargas to disperse the protesters, he added.

Later, mid-morning, "tensions soared again" and the gendarmes and French soldiers "fired warning shots", Ianni said before the more than 100-vehicle convoy was able to move off.

He denied "false information" posted on social networks that the French army had killed dozens of civilians at Tera.

After entering Burkina Faso last week, the convoy was slowed by protesters at Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second largest city, and then in Ouagadougou, the capital.

On November 19, several thousand demonstrators blocked the convoy at Kaya, about 100 km north of Ouagadougou.

The following day, local sources said four people had suffered gunshot wounds in Kaya, in circumstances that remain unclear -- French and Burkinabe soldiers fired warning shots and tear gas to disperse demonstrators.

Protest organisers said they wanted to expose flaws in Burkina Faso's security accords with former colonial ruler La Belle France.

But rumours have also spread on social media -- which were recounted by protesters in Kaya -- claiming the convoy was in fact carrying weapons for the jihadists.

Burkinabe Foreign Minister Alpha Barry dismissed the rumours on Wednesday and pointed to what he said was La Belle France's long history of help at times of crisis.

On Friday Niger President Mohammed Bazoum had expressed his "gratitude" to La Belle France and applauded its "sacrifices" in the Sahel.

Knife attacker known extremist: Tunisia's interior ministry
More on this story from yesterday.
[AlAhram] Tunisia's Interior Ministry has said that a man who attempted to attack security officials in central Tunis was a known Death Eater.

The 31-year-old man previously studied abroad and is on a list of Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
s, an Death Eater group that views other Moslems or certain groups as apostates, according to a statement released late Friday on the ministry's Facebook page.

Local media reports that the man is from Monastir, an affluent coastal town 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of Tunis. The suspect hasn't been officially named.

Video from the scene that circulated on social media shows a bearded man walking up and down Habib Bourguiba Avenue, Tunis' central thoroughfare, carrying a long knife and an ax. The man then heads towards the Interior Ministry, chased by a group of men in civilian clothing, and jumps the barriers that surround the building. Video footage then shows chaos break out as the man runs at coppers while swinging his weapons before a volley of shots is fired.

The attack began after coppers noticed the individual carrying a large bag walking on the avenue and asked him for his ID. The man reportedly took out a large knife and tried to attack anyone who approached him. After he was chased along the avenue by security agents and civilians, the man jumped over the ministry's barriers.

"He was repeatedly asked to surrender and throw down what he had, but he continued to confront all those who approached him, brandishing a big knife and chanting, "Oh tyrant, God is the greatest, you infidels,'' reads the statement.

A security officer then shot the man, reportedly in the legs, and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Europe
Austrian police arrest 15 suspected people smugglers
[DW] The Syrians, Lebanese, and Egyptian migrants colonists had planned to reach Germany after being dropped off in Austria, police said. Hundreds of migrants colonists paid up to €5,000 each ($5,600) for the ride.
Where are these people getting the money to pay for this?
Austrian police have arrested 15 people accused of being part of a criminal group that made €2.5 million ($2.8 million) for smuggling 700 migrants colonists into the country.

The group allegedly drove the migrants colonists from the Serbian-Hungarian border to the north of Vienna from where they could travel onward to Germany.

HOW WERE THE SMUGGLERS DISCOVERED?
Austrian authorities first opened an investigation into the criminal network last month.

Police said they arrested the 15 smugglers on November 16 when 25 vehicles carrying 200 to 300 migrants colonists were intercepted in vehicle checks in Lower Austria and at a Vienna hotel. Police seized 14 vehicles in the operation.

The investigation found the ring removed the back seats and sprayed over the back windows to conceal the 12 to 15 people they carried in each car or van.

Drivers were recruited in Moldova, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan through social media ads offering up to €3,000 (about $4,000) in monthly wages. The drivers were all said to have tried to escape upon capture.

The Syrian, Lebanese and Egyptian migrants colonists each paid €4,000-€5,000 (about $4,500 to $5,600) to be driven from the Serbian-Hungarian border through Slovakia and the Czech Republic to northeastern Austria.

WHERE DID THE MIGRANTS COLONISTS WANT TO GO?
Most of the migrants colonists said they intended to then travel to Germany.

A third of them decided to apply for asylum in Austria, police front man Johann Baumschlager told the German press agency. The rest had probably traveled to Germany already, he added.

The EU introduced a new migration pact in October that tightens up on illegal entry into the bloc while allowing skilled workers greater access to the job market.

Authorities have arrested over 330 people for trafficking people in Austria this year.

To fund terror, Pak pushing larger quantity of drugs: J&K Police
[OneIndia] Pakistain is pushing a huge quantity of drugs into Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
for funding terror here in a planned manner and getting our youths falling prey to the menace, Jammu and Kashmir police chief Dilbag Singh said, PTI reported.

The J&K director general of police made the remark while presiding over a specialised training programme for J&K Police officers held in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau in Jammu.

Referring to the seizure of 52 kg of heroin on Thursday at Jajar Kotli and huge quantities of various drugs earlier in Poonch, Baramulla, Kupwara and other border areas, the DGP said, "Pakistain is pushing huge quantities of drugs for terror funding in a planned manner and getting our youths involved in the menace to satisfy its evil intentions."

I have often wondered in cases like this.
Is it the Citizens of the Country?
Or just the Leadership shoving them in to a confrontational direction to either trim population or provide deflection from other issues.

Because if its Leadership?
Why not just use surgical strike teams and eliminate the Rabid Leadership and restore peace saving $,$$$,$$$,$$$,$$$'s and countless lives?

[Shafaq News] On Saturday, ISIS gunnies attacked the Peshmerga forces in the Kifri district of the Garmyan administration in the Kurdistan Region.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that ISIS attacked the Peshmerga positions from two axes in the Koljo district of Kifri, which resulted in two Peshmerga members being injured.

The source added that the confrontations continue at the Peshmerga positions, indicating that the Kurdish forces are repelling the terrorist attack.

He pointed out that military reinforcements from the Peshmerga forces headed to the site.

Turkish forces, PKK clash in Erbil's Sidakan area: mayor
[Rudaw] Clashes broke out between Turkish forces and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) within the borders of Erbil province on Saturday morning, a local mayor said. The skirmish comes as the Kurdistan Region is seeing thousands of its citizens, mainly the youth, take risky journeys to Europe and recent student protests that shook the streets.

Turkey and the PKK clashed in the mountainous area of Lelkan in Sidakan sub-district, Sidakan mayor Ihsan Chalabi told Rudaw.

The fight started at 10:00 am and lasted for one hour. According to Chalabi, Turkey also bombed the Lelkan heights.

There are no reports of injuries or casualties.

The PKK is an armed group fighting for greater rights for Kurds in Turkey, with several bases in the Kurdistan Region. Turkey frequently carries out cross-border ground and air offensives against alleged locations of the PKK, which Ankara considers to be a terrorist organization. In April, Turkey launched the twin operations Claw-Lightning and Claw-Thunderbolt in northern Duhok province.

Sidakan, 90 kilometers northeast of Erbil city, is in Kurdistan Region’s mountains with Iran to the east and Turkey to the north. The area is frequently bombarded by Turkey and Iran due to the presence of PKK fighters and Kurdish opposition groups from Iran.

Last month, a suspected Turkish drone struck Bradost mountain range, targeting PKK’s activities in Sidakan. In September, Iran attacked the border areas of Choman, Sidakan, and Haji Omran, targeting alleged bases of Kurdish opposition groups.

Civilian populations and the environment have been severely damaged by the Turkey-PKK conflict. Several people have been killed, thousands of acres of land have been scorched, and people’s houses and livestock have been hit. There have been over 400 military incursions into the Kurdistan Region in the first nine months of this year, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The KRG has repeatedly called on both Iran and Turkey to respect its sovereignty and for the Kurdish groups to stop using its territory to launch attacks on neighbors.

Jihadist jailbreak in Iraq foiled, one prisoner killed
[AlAhram] Iraqi security forces said they rubbed out a convicted jihadist on Saturday as he tried to escape from a prison with two accomplices.

The three prisoners, all members of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, were serving life sentences at the Taji penitentiary north of Baghdad, the security services said in a statement.

They were spotted as they tried to break out of jail by climbing over an external wall, the statement said.

Guards opened fire "when they refused to heed warnings", it said, adding one prisoner was killed while the two others "surrendered".

"The three bully boyz had been sentenced to life in jail," the statement said without identifying them.

After the demise of IS in Iraq, courts in the country have sentenced hundreds to death for crimes perpetrated by the jihadists.

Only a small proportion of the sentences have been carried out, as they must be approved by the president.

Barham Saleh, who has held the post since 2018, is known to be against capital punishment.

(ISIS) and al-Qaeda. The Iraqi government has repeatedly refused to reveal the exact number of ISIS members and terror offenders held in its prisons, what proportion are women and minors, or the nature of the charges against them.

There have been multiple prison breaks by terror convicts across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. In August 2019, ISIS murderous Moslems were among 15 prisoners who broke out of Rusafa prison in Baghdad. In December 2018, 21 prisoners, including ISIS members, reportedly beat feet from a detention facility in Sulaimani. In May 2018, seven inmates died and several more were maimed in a fire following an attempted prison break in Duhok.

Iraqi forces launch large-scale security operation in Anbar
[AlAhram] The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced on Saturday, launching a large-scale security operation to eliminate the terrorist remnants of ISIS on Al Khalidiya Island in Anbar province.

"The Eastern Anbar Operations Command at PMF, represented by brigades (2-7-27), and with the support of the Directorate of Medicine and Military Engineering, launched a wide inspection operation to pursue ISIS remnants in Al Khalidiya Island and its surrounding areas," PMF said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia recruits former Syrian fighters loyal to Iran in Aleppo
[NPASYRIA] Muhammad Ajib, a pseudonym for an IDP from al-Fou’ah town in Idlib countryside and lives in northern Aleppo, north Syria, is awaiting a Russian security company to inform him of the date of his flight to the city of Benghazi in Libya to guard oil companies there, after he quit fighting alongside an Iranian-backed faction and joined the Russian forces.

Other 17 fighters also quit Iranian-backed militias and joined the Russian forces, a step described by Ajib as "necessary."

By the time military positions of Iranian-backed factions are endangered, Russian forces in Syria attract the youths to recruit in their own forces.

RISKS OF BEING THE TARGET
Ajib joined the Local Defense Forces loyal to Iran
...The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both...
in al-Fou’ah, Idlib, when he was 18.

"We fought alongside Iran in all the battles that took place there before we get out following the Four Towns Agreement in 2017," Ajib said.

According to the agreement, locals from the predominantly Shia towns of al-Fou’ah and Kafriya were evacuated to Aleppo city, in turn, the Syrian government forces broke the siege imposed on Zabadani and Madaya towns in Rif Dimashq.

In the same year, Ajib and other young men joined an Iranian-backed faction in al-Bukamal city in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

"In al-Bukamal-based stronghold, there was constant fear Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s and others suspected to be American would target our positions because the strikes used to be accurate and abrupt," Ajib added.
Damn those Joos and their deadly accuracy! (And also the Americans!)
"Damn the Big Satan and Little Satan!"
The Russian firm that offered the Syrian youths ’tempting offers’ refrains from saying its real name, instead it says it will settle the security status of the wanted people, according to Ajib.

By joining the Russian forces, Ajib could escape the danger of fighting with Iranian-backed militias and solve the problem of defaulting the reserve and mandatory service of the Syrian army.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
Nawar al-Ali, 30, is a pseudonym for a mechanic young man in Aleppo, started his first job with the Russian forces in Libya six months ago.

He was sent to Libya for three months during which he earned $3,600, "a high salary" he says compared to the worse living conditions the Syrians live.

Al-Ali signed a new contract with the Russian forces and is awaiting to be sent to Libya again as a mechanic.

Financial incentives push many youths to join Russian-sponsored forces, al-Ali said.

Before joining Russian forces, al-Ali used to be an employee in Iranian sites in Sheikh Najjar area, northeast Aleppo. He would stay there twenty days in a month and earn only 100,000 SYP ($35).

"Working with Iranian forces was perilous. Israeli airstrikes targeted sites close to my place of work several times and destroyed them completely. Some of my colleagues even passed away," al-Ali added.

"Low salaries and lack of incentives make fighting alongside Iranian factions unavailing. Working with the Russian forces is like a life preserver for me," he noted.

Assaf Hussein, 34, a pseudonym for a young man who hails from the Shiite town of Nubl, in Aleppo northern countryside, said when he first joined an Iranian-backed faction five years ago, he used to earn well. He and other young men were also motivated by religious propaganda the Iranian factions continue to use to attract the youths.

"It turned out later that recruiting the young men through usage of religious motivation was the only pretext Iran used to gain interests in Syria. Plus, the low salaries it offers are not enough to sustain," Hussein said.

Many fighters quit Iranian-backed militias and join the Russian forces because of tempting salaries and safer work conditions.

Turkish forces, Turkish-backed factions carry out attack on Syria’s Ain Issa: SDF
[NPASYRIA] On Friday, Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that the Ottoman Turkish forces and the Syrian factions affiliated with them conducted an attack north of Ain Issa, northeast Syria.

"The Ottoman Turkish occupation and its mercenaries conducted a ground attack on the village of Sayda, north of Ain Issa," the center added.

"Our fighters countered the attack leading to violent mostly peaceful festivities that are still ongoing," the center noted.

On Saturday, SDF said that the Ottoman Turkish forces and the Ottoman Turkish-backed armed factions are continuing their provocative moves in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad using heavy weapons and drones.

The Ottoman Turkish occupation shelled the villages of Tel Amir, north the town of Zergan, with heavy weapons, forcing villagers to stop working in their agricultural fields," the SDF Media Center said on November 15.

Government, Turkey-backed opposition exchange sporadic clashes in Syria’s northwest
[NPASYRIA] On Saturday, different areas of the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, amid intense flight of Russian drones over the region.

The government forces bombed the villages and towns of al-Fatirah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rockets, North Press reported military sources of the opposition.

The villages of al-Enkawi and Khirbet al-Naqus in the Ghab Plain, west of Hama, were hit by the government’s shelling. The outskirts of Tedil, Kafr Ta’al and Sheikh Aqil, west of Aleppo, were also bombed. No casualties were reported though, the sources added.

al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room bombed the government forces’ positions in the towns of Kafranbel, Ma’arat al-Numan and the villages of al-Dar al-Kabira and al-Malaja, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rockets, a military source of the National Front for Liberation told North Press.

The government forces’ sites near Besatroun, Quptan al-Jabal and the Regiment 46, west of Aleppo, were also hit by al-Fateh al-Mubin, according to the same sources.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

Two dead, five injured in Manbij car explosion
[Rudaw] Two people, including a child, were killed and five others were maimed in a car explosion in Manbij, in Syria’s north Aleppo province on Saturday.

"A woman and a child were killed" and five others were maimed, including two members of the National Defense forces, when a car went kaboom!, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

Manbij Military Council called it a "terrorist bombing."

Three women were among the maimed and taken to hospital for treatment, according to Hawar News Agency.

No group has immediately grabbed credit.

Manbij was liberated from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) nearly five years ago by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), after which the locally-established Manbij Military Council assumed responsibility for security. The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
threatened several times threatened to attack Manbij to force Kurdish forces out of the ethnically diverse city. In 2018, Ankara and Washington struck a deal that saw the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) leave and control handed over to local councils. Ankara claims that the Kurdish fighters are affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Manbij borders areas controlled by Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian militias.

Previous explosions and suicide kabooms in Manbij have either been claimed by Islamic State (ISIS) or blamed on the group. ISIS continues to "operate across rural areas of Iraq and Syria as a well-entrenched, low-level insurgency," the Pentagon stated in its latest report on anti-ISIS operations.
