COVID-19+ Lessons Learned and Still Learning
Analysis by Rantburg’s own NN2N1.
As of Yesterday 10-18-2021
3.35% of the world was claimed to have had COVID-19+.
0.068% of 1% of the world is claimed to have died from Covid-19+.

COVID-19+ LESSONS WE'VE LEARNED,
that Government still does not fully grasp.

1. Know your problem before running off half cocked.

2. Only let the non-politically aligned experts define the problem and make recommendations.

3. After meetings with the experts and congressional leadership, only the President should be making National Level statements and explaining decisions.

4. Indicate whom provided the facts and what and why decisions were based on. Because it tends to keep the experts honest to avoid professional and public embarrassment.

5. Only State Governors, not Mayors, should make State/Local level decisions and then only based on state area data and related issues.

6. Do not use and avoid experts that:
a) previously have a bad track record for accuracy,
b) have only flown a desk and have not been actively hands on with the situation,
c) tend to pander to Politicians and elitists with non-national agendas,
d) rely on anonymously written computer models,
e) love Media Notoriety and run to the cameras every chance they get.

7. Do not use or trust how figures are arrived at by 3rd parties:
a) Establish how official figures will be collected from the start.
b) Establish who is responsible for the figures.
c) Establish a standardized and use a consistent publicly understandable way of presenting figures.
d) If presentation issues change, or issues arise then so state, explain and move on.
e) If any figures were deliberately falsified, then any person(s) involved should be criminally charged.

8. Regarding data figures.
a) Always show weekly Infected, cured and death rate together. Always Put things in proper prospective.
b) Remember Guesstimates only cause Panic.... Never use them.
c) Show which demographic groups are being more seriously affected and factually explain why?
d) Show what environments are causing the most seriously issues.
e) Never allow media, politicians or others to sell panic over Facts for revenue & attention.
f) Any Federal, State or media person spewing hype and panic over facts should be exposed and removed from public media access.

9. Media Updates
a) The Pandemic or its updates should NEVER be allowed to become a Political Circus.
b) Call out all public figures and violators that publish misleading facts.
c) Refuse to answer future questions from such violators and openly explain why.
d) All questions should be related to Current Known Data, no predictive data.
e) Explain how it is being addressed and what the next steps are in the plan..
f) Avoid politics and politically based agendas of those focused on Blame and not solutions.
g) If a reporter presents inaccurate misleading open ended data in a question, point it out BEFORE answering, or rephrase the question to properly answer it.
h) If a media person goes on a blame game agenda, call them out for it.
i) Do NOT feed those 2nd guessing actions for personal or political reasons with answers.
j) Do not tolerate a person or media outlet that is trying use a press briefing to become a celebrity or cause a news worthy political agenda spectacle. Warn them and openly remind them they are there to collect news, not become part of the news. If they continue, terminate the press briefing and post the facts to the official website along with an explanation why.
k) Develop and post a written set of Rules of Decorum expected of all media and persons present. Clearly state if not followed then what action will be taken and have all media sign the agreement.

10. When all is said and done. Hold a Closeout historical briefing of official findings, handling stumbles, issues encountered and mistakes made in handling the emergency. Post this on a publicly accessible website.

NOTE: Your additional suggestions and Lesson Learned are welcomed.

#4  - Do not try to dictate medical care options nationally. Let doctors treat their patients.

- Peer review has issues under normal circumstances. In a crisis it's too slow. Let information flow freely and the marketplace of ideas sort it out.

- Do not censor information.

- Expect facts to change quickly, especially at the start. Be prepared to change policy too. Using the same policies 18+ months later is basically an admission that those things had nothing to do with fighting the disease.

#6  3.35% of the world was claimed to have had COVID-19+.0.068% of 1% of the world is claimed to have died from Covid-19+

13.7% of the US is claimed to have had Covid-19. 0.22% of the US is claimed to have died of it. Lots more Americans seem to catch it but it is slightly less deadly to us when we do.

#7  Ideally, yes, great synopsis, and bonus points for difficulty level.

5. Only State Governors, not Mayors, should make State/Local level decisions and then only based on state area data and related issues.

Kansas governor was doing the Michigan model t+1 week.

Kansas is not Michigan. Kansas is not Topeka. You don't get Topeka without the food producers, that is packing plants, that is by large proportion Latino community who gave the biggest up yours finger to The Covid Protocols. In fact, it was the first time I had seen the Latino community demonized on local wine mom morning TV.

Other groups caught hell on lwmmTV, mostly them damned cross worshipers, but if you recall there was talk about sending the military in to take over processing plants which I readily laughed at, like Private Upham knows how to dress an animal because camouflage.

My point, other than the know nothing decision makers know nothing, is if the locals had done the Capital Ideas, you all would be 12 months into meatless.

#8  this reminds me of the many times my mother asked me "Are you sure you know what you are doing"

I generally answered "No" because we frequently deal with problems that are not completely or even only partially known.

You do not have the luxury of 'know your problem' in the Covid response or in many other things.

#9  Once the vaccines were developed, politicians and bureaucrats should have stepped away from the pandemic and left it up to the actuaries. If the actuaries are right, their companies will profit. If they are wrong the insurance companies will bleed money. Can't have that. Then, if you want to get vaccinated, get vaccinated. If you don't then don't. Just don't come crying to me when your health insurance company jacks up your premiums or if your employer decides he can't afford to keep you on the group policy. That might work differently for different people depending on other risk factors...depending on the actuarial tables. That is my understanding of how America is supposed to work. I believe the market is smarter than #FJB and Fauxi combined. I believe #FJB and Fauxi understand that too. But covid is a valuable tool for them to use to gain and maintain power and so they will not let go of it. That's why we have all this controversy and divisiveness. That's how you know #FJB and Fauxi are evil.

#10  3.35% of the world was claimed to have had COVID-19+.
0.068% of 1% of the world is claimed to have died from Covid-19+.

I don't have the time, patience or the expertise to bother myself with all those numbers. I don't trust them anyway. That's why I say leave it to the actuaries. It's their job and they have a vested interest in getting it right.

9. Media Updates

#14  Before announcing anything, the question must be answered: WHAT IF I AM WRONG?

And the overriding principle MUST be: ALL medical care must be decided in confidentiality by the individual and their treating physician.

Afghanistan
Gen. Keith Kellogg: Our military and the alarming disappearance of accountability
[FOX] Accountability remains one of the most important tenets in leadership and, until recently, was a crucial component to success in the military. Accountability develops trust, demonstrates stewardship, and influences decision-making. By virtue of its necessity, it is interwoven into nearly every aspect of life in uniform. Troop formations, combat success, physical fitness tests, individual performance reports, financial liability investigations for property loss -- all are mechanisms and tools of accountability.

Dangerously, accountability in decision making at the highest levels of the military appears to have all but disappeared. Over the past decade, stars on shoulders became Afghan participation trophies and we all but celebrated mediocrity in our leaders.

As Kabul fell so did our trust and faith in our military senior leaders. The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the ’just-for-show’ hearings in Congress that followed indicate the weakness and inability of our uniformed and elected leaders to accept the most fundamental aspect of their job...accountability.

#1  It predates Kabul by a long run. How many failed programs have they recycled through senior officers all the time giving each departee one of them 'happy - glad' tour medals? That's been going on for decades.

How many officers violated regulations and the result was amending the regulations with another paragraph or paragraphs of instruction rather than hold the miscreant responsible and as an example to others? That has been going on for decades.

Russian historical document node
[ISMATinfo] This is a tremendous resource for historians and historical buffs, such as myself, of Russian/Soviet history.

One example is a list of ships to be built for the Imperial Russian Navy starting in 1905. That document can be seen here.

#2  I am interested in all relations between Fascist Italy and Soviet Union. I know there was some aeronautic cooperation about 1930 and then it seems to have been only naval one in this case one sided with Italians supplying technology and some ships.

Economy
Shortages now being blamed on Americans
[Business Insider] Americans are buying everything they can get their hands on, and they'd be buying even more if it weren't for those pesky supply-chain snarls, the National Retail Federation said.

"Spending might have been higher if not for shortages of items consumers are eager to purchase," Jack Kleinhenz, the NRF's chief economist, said in a statement issued on Friday.

Those shortages seem so ubiquitous that the term "everything shortage" is now being used liberally to describe consumers' frustration as they try to get goods of all sorts: paper towels, milk, toys, and more.

Yet claims that the country is running short on everything miss a key point. America has, in fact, imported an immense amount of stuff in the past eight months. And that's part of the reason we're in the midst of an epic supply-chain congestion.

Iraq
Who will form Iraq’s next government?
[Rudaw] Preliminary results in Iraq’s October 10 election, parallel to all expectations, saw Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
’s party win by a large margin with 72 seats. However they will still need to make deals with other parties in order to appoint a prime minister and form the government.

The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Saturday announced updated preliminary results after completing manual counting. The results give a clear image of who won and who lost, but who will form the next government remains unclear as several parties will need to come to an agreement and election winners could be left out of the government.
