Florida police seize enough fentanyl to kill almost half a million people during Palm Coast drug bust

#1  There appears to be an increasing number of coastal (Hollywood) and urban young and middle aged people dying of...let's say unknown causes.
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/10/2021 10:14 Comments || Top||

#2  Media always leave out the manufacturer and the method of getting the drug from the factory into the USA. As best I can tell, China is still manufacturing fentanyl and carfentanil for export to the USA, and the USPS carries a great deal of the traffic. Can't discuss this, oh no. The USPS can't possibly screen packages from China to the USA for these drugs, oh no.

#3  It isn't an "unknown cause" when someone dies after taking a street drug (by definition, always of "unknown provenance"). The cause of death can be summarized as "stupidity", i.e. doing something highly risky when you already know better.

#4  As far as I am concerned, this could be classified as good! Do drugs and die before killing others for money.

Death threats leveled at Justice for J6 rally organizers, won't back down
[Washington Examiner] Organizers of the Capitol rally for hundreds of Jan. 6 protesters charged and held in jails around the nation have been threatened with multiple death threats, all turned over to U.S. Capitol Police to investigate.
I figured the Capitol Police issued the threats
Matt Braynard, executive director of Look Ahead America, the organizer, said left-leaning activists have threatened him and the group over its continued plan to demand that the protesters are treated as least as well as antifa, Black Lives Matter, and Trump inauguration protesters, most of whom saw charges of violence dropped.

Six hit by gunfire near MLK Drive in scenic East St. Louis, Illinois
[USA Today] Authorities in East St. Louis, Illinois, are searching for several suspects who they say shot six people before crashing into a commuter train in a dangerous getaway attempt Thursday.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. local time in the city's downtown area, near 6th Street and Martin Luther King Drive, Illinois State Police said in a statement. Six were hit with bullets and another person, a juvenile, was also injured.

All seven were hospitalized. Their conditions were not immediately available, police spokeswoman Beth Hundsdorfer said.

The St. Louis Metro said on Twitter that service had been disrupted due to a car on the tracks and told riders to expect delays.

The three suspects were on the run in a nearby wooded area, according to reports.

According to KMOV-4, about 10 train passengers were being treated for injuries on the scene. The station said the suspects tried to outrun the train at a nearby crossing with their getaway car.

Baltimore feral yoots charged with stealing Highlands man's car, dragging him to his death will be tried as adults
[BALTIMORESUN] Two Baltimore teens charged with murder for a fatal carjacking in the Highlands neighborhood in April will be tried as adults, according to Maryland court records.

Baltimore Police said they had identified three teenagers shortly after Fabian Mendez, 41, was run over and dragged with his own car during a carjacking in the 100 block of N. Conkling St. around 9:30 on April 2. One was captured at the scene and confessed, a second was arrested days later and also confessed, according to police charging documents.

A 13-year-old girl was identified in the records as being an accomplice, but she has not been charged as an adult, according to an online records search.

Donyea Witherspoon, who turned 17 days after the assault, and Terrance Wilbon, 16, are charged with murder, carjacking and conspiracy, according to court records. They are being held at a youth detention center in Baltimore, according to state department of corrections records.

According to the records, Mendez was on his way to work around 9:30 a.m. when a police officer who was in the area saw him being assaulted. The three suspects jumped into his 2010 Toyota Camry and attempted to flee, striking and dragging Mendez several blocks to the 3400 block of E. Fayette St.

Witherspoon confessed to being the driver, according to charging documents.

Baltimore police had been called to a Highlands gas station about 4:50 that morning and kicked the three teenagers out of the business after they were acting suspiciously, records show. The officer who removed the teens recognized one of them when Witherspoon was caught at the scene, police said.

Witherspoon, captured after a quick foot chase, identified himself, the girl and the boy as the people involved when officers presented him photos captured from video at the BP gas station, according to the charging documents.

Witherspoon also confessed to police after his mother arrived and sat in on an interview, police said.

Polar bears are inbreeding due to melting sea ice, posing risk to survival of the species, scientists say
[ABCNEWS.GO] The outlook for the survival of polar bears appears precarious as scientists learn more about factors induced by climate change that are affecting the long-term health of the species.

Polar bear populations studied in Svalbard, the Norwegian archipelago on the Barents Sea, were found to have up to a 10% loss in genetic diversity over a 20-year period, which correlated with a "rapid disappearance of Arctic sea ice," according to a study published Wednesday in the Royal Society Journals. As the ice melted, the polar bears' habitat became fragmented, resulting in a rapid increase in genetic isolation and inbreeding among regions due to reduced contact with polar bears from the outside, scientists said.

Note: Some may remember the article of a man accused of shooting a Poplar Bear about 4 or 5 years back? He was found INNOCENT because on doing a requested Genetic test they found the bear was a grizzly–polar bear. A massive and very aggressive hybrid called a Grolar bear.

#15  they found the bear was a grizzly–polar bear. A massive and very aggressive hybrid called a Grolar bear.

Some call them pizzlies. Grolar is better. They exist because the expanding polar bear population has spread south into grizzly territory. Polar bears are reportedly a fairly new sub-species of Ursus arctos (brown bears), which includes grizzly bears. That’s why they can interbreed and produce viable offspring.

Armed robber shot in face by armed victim in Texas just days after permitless carry begins
[MSN] An armed robber was shot in the face in Texas when his victim pulled out his own gun and shot at him, just days after a Texas law went into effect allowing residents to carry handguns without permits.

"He was shot in the face one time. He's at the hospital. He's going to live. He's conscious and breathing right now," Houston Police Department Lieutenant R. Willkens said.
"breathing through a hole in his forehead"
The suspect in the case was dropped off around the same time, and approached the victim by lifting his shirt to expose a gun and demanded he fork over any valuables.

The victim, however, was also armed and pulled out his weapon and shot the suspect in the face. The suspect is in the hospital and in police custody.

Additionally, no charges are expected to be brought against the victim, as he was defending himself.

"He's being extremely cooperative. He has no criminal history whatsoever," Willkens said of the victim.

The incident comes after Gov. Greg Abbott signed a "constitutional carry" bill into law this summer allowing Texans to carry handguns in public without going through training or obtaining permits.

"You could say that I signed into law today some laws that protect gun rights," Abbott said at the bill signing in June. "But today, I signed documents that instilled freedom in the Lone Star State."

The law went into effect on Sept. 1.

Ethiopia says Tigrayan forces beaten in Afar, Tigrayans say they redeployed
[REUTERS] Ethiopia said on Thursday that rebellious forces from the Tigray region had been defeated in the adjacent Afar region and had withdrawn, but the Tigrayan forces said they had merely shifted troops to neighbouring Amhara for an offensive there.

"The TPLF force has left Afar (region)," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dina Mufti told reporters at a news conference in Addis Ababa.

"According to a military information, they were defeated and they left," he said.

Tigrayan spokesperson Getachew Reda, speaking to Reuters by satellite phone from an undisclosed location, said the Ethiopian authorities had only now realised Tigrayan forces had withdrawn.

Putin and Lukashenko move to integrate economies of Russia and Belarus
[THEGUARDIAN] Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said they had made progress toward integrating the two countries’ economies during a summit on Thursday evening in advance of massive joint military exercises.

Speaking late on Thursday, Putin said the two leaders had agreed to coordinate the countries’ macroeconomic policies, institute common tax and customs measures, and harmonise other financial controls as part of a 28-point roadmap that is expected to increase Russia’s influence over its neighbour.

The countries will move to integrate their energy markets while maintaining steeply discounted supplies of natural gas to Belarus, and Russia will provide a further $630m in loans to the cash-strapped Belarusian government, Putin said.

The texts of the agreements were not made available and the leaders did not sign any documents publicly. While the two sides announced new economic agreements, they stopped short of introducing a common currency or going into detail on any defence or political agreements, signalling a limit to the extent of the negotiations.

Lukashenko, who has been sanctioned by the west for a brutal crackdown on the country’s opposition, has been seen as resisting pressure from Moscow to concede control over government policy in exchange for Russian support.

PM orders criminal proceedings against pilgrims entering Israel with fake tests
[YNet] - Prime Minister Naftali Bennett ordered on Thursday to take harsh punitive measures against Israelis returning from the Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage in Ukraine using forged COVID-19 tests, including criminal proceedings and possible incarceration.

Ultra-orthodox consider secular rules to be irrelevant - cause the (hereditary) leader of each sect gets instructions directly from G*d. However, unlike Bibi, Bennett is genuinely religious. So, he (probably) hates these faux-Jewish cultists more than I do.

Bishop quits church after falling in love with satanic erotica writer
[FOXNEWS] This church official has chosen corsets over crucibles.

A Spanish bishop, known for supporting gay conversion therapy and performing exorcisms, has left the Roman Catholic Church after becoming smitten with a writer of Satanic erotic fiction, Silvia Caballol.

"I have fallen in love and want to do things properly," said the now-ex-bishop, Xavier Novell, according to a report by BBC, which picked up the story from Spanish media outlets after the news of why Novell quit broke last month.

In addition to widespread media attention, the 52-year-old’s decision has also led to much internal criticism within the church. Some of his former colleagues told the Spanish media that they believed Novell to be possessed by demons. The situation is "not a problem of celibacy but rather of infestation," one said, as reported by the National Post.

Before his scandalous resignation from the church, Novell was considered one of its rising stars, having become Spain’s youngest bishop in 2010 at the age of 41. His August departure reportedly shocked the religious community, although BBC reported that he had met multiple times with Vatican officials — even the Pope himself — ahead of his resignation.

Now in love but out of work, Novell is now looking for employment as a crop expert or agronomist in the Barcelona area, Religión Digital reported.

The woman he broke his vow of celibacy and commitment to Christ to be with, Silvia Caballol, is a divorced psychologist and erotic novelist whose titles include "The Hell of Gabriel’s Lust" and a trilogy called "Amnesia." Caballol’s work has explored themes of madness, lust, sadism, God and Satan. Her publisher describes her as a "dynamic and transgressive author [who] turns upside down our ideas of morality and ethics," according to the National Post.

Novell has admitted in previous interviews that his infatuation with Caballol is not his first: Before becoming a man of God, he fell in love with and for a time wanted to marry and have children with an 18-year-old girl.

The 'Frey Effect' not such a huge mystery after all
Another perspective on this story from yesterday.
BLUF:
"This is not Havana syndrome. It's a misnomer," argues Mr Zaid, whose clients were affected in many locations. "What's been going on has been known by the United States government probably, based on evidence that I have seen, since the late 1960s."

Since 2013, Mr Zaid has represented one employee of the US National Security Agency who believed they were damaged in 1996 in a location which remains classified.

Mr Zaid questions why the US government has been so unwilling to acknowledge a longer history. One possibility, he says, is because it might open a Pandora's Box of incidents that have been ignored over the years. Another is because the US, too, has developed and perhaps even deployed microwaves itself and wants to keep it secret.
You mean like...'gain of function'?
The  country's interest in weaponising microwaves extended beyond the end of the Cold War. Reports say from the 1990s, the US Air Force had a project codenamed "Hello" to see if microwaves could create disturbing sounds in people's heads, one called "Goodbye" to test their use for crowd control, and one codenamed "Goodnight" to see if they could be used to kill people. Reports from a decade ago suggested these had not proved successful.

#1  Because it's a useful casus belli against our "enemies". Moreover if they admitted it was coming from an anti-surveillance weapon, a whole lot of people would be in bureaucratic hot water. Careers are at stake here. This is important.

#5  And maybe the affected parties were actually nailed by backscatter from their own poorly shielded devices? Intensity is an inverse square relationship. That's why these microwave rigs in general use are mounted on towers.

World's biggest 'carbon-sucking' machine is switched on in Iceland: $15 million device will capture 4,000 TONS of CO2 per year and could help 'reverse climate change'

#5  i think there's something about the volcanic soil in iceland being difficult for trees to grow. but yes, all these doom and gloom stories about CO2 killing everyone sidestep the fact that plants love CO2, and planting trees is the quickest and easiest way to 'sequester' CO2

it's like the (apocryphal?) story of the US space race that spent millions on developing a pen that could function well in zero gravity while the Soviets just used a pencil

#8  RS -- the Soviet pencil story leaves out that graphite dust is bad for electronics, especially those from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Plus, NASA paid nothing for the "space pen" -- the pressurized ink capsule pen had already been developed, but didn't have a solid market until someone needed to write in free fall.

#9  re: trees in Iceland

about 10 million years ago, Iceland was covered with forests with lots of species now common in midlatitudes, e.g., oak, sumac, maple

after the multiple glaciations of the ice ages, the only tree species flourishing was birch and some aspen

but then as human habitation spread in the 11th to 14th centuries, trees were cut down for fuel and sheep began grazing cut areas preventing new growth

it is a sad story

#10  4000 TONS of CO2/year? Whoop de do. Get back to me when they start pulling 4 million tons/day or so. 4000 tons isn't even a blip in the total CO2 in the atmosphere. Even 4 million tons isn't very much.
Posted by: Rambler in Virginia || 09/10/2021 13:18 Comments || Top||

#11  I think the volcanos in Iceland probably put out a thousand times more carbon than this machine sucks up.

US Navy helicopter that crashed killing five crew and injuring five aboard aircraft carrier 'was vibrating side-to-side causing the main rotor to hit the deck' while landing
Posted by: Skidmark || 09/10/2021 00:00 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Not saying this is the cause, but when stationed in a H-60 ASW squadron, we were witness to a Japanese Self-Defense Force H-60 shed a rotor blade upon touchdown at Barber’s Point: a/c immediately turned on its side and disintegrated. All survived. Shortly thereafter all -60s were downed for ndt inspections of rotor heads; records indicated there were 6 potentially bad units ( manufacturing flaws) out there. We were blessed with 4. Microscopic cold shut when forged.
Nobody injured this time, condolences to families and shipmates of these fine Sailors.
