BLM protester, 29, sues LAPD after bodycam footage shows cop firing foam-covered round at his groin 'causing grapefruit-size swelling'
Lawfare. Yay.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Ben Montemayor, now 29, named the city and LAPD Chief Michael Moore as defendants in the suit

  • He is seeking unspecified damages for the incident that unfolded last June

  • Montemayor hopes the case will help hold the LAPD accountable and protect future protesters from the dangers of the projectiles

  • 'They're used irresponsibly. They're overused,' he said. 'I don't want them to be downplayed'

  • Body-cam footage shows Montemayor being shot by a 40mm foam pellet gun along Hollywood Boulevard on June 20

Chauvin Trial - Day 12 Wrap-up
See also here. Yesterday’s reports can be seen here and here.
[Legal Insurrection] Today started off with a major shift in the court’s proceedings, with the state resting its presentation of its case in chief, and the defense beginning its presentation of its own case in chief to the jury.

Throughout the day the defense moved speedily through six witnesses, including retired MPD Officer Scott Creighton, involved in Floyd’s year-earlier arrest-related drug ingestion event, and whose testimony included body camera footage of that event; retired paramedic and nurse Michelle Moseng, involved at the same event and the person who had observed Floyd’s sky-high blood pressure of 200/160 [!]; Shawanda Hill, the woman in Floyd’s SUV on May 25, 2020, the date of Floyd’s death; Minneapolis Parks Police Officer Peter Chang, who was present on duty at Floyd’s May 25,2020 arrest, and whose testimony included his body camera footage of that event; Minneapolis Police Department medical training coordinator Nicole MacKenzie, recalled as a defense witness after testifying for the state earlier in the trial; and finally Barry Brodd, the use-of-force expert witness retained by the defense for this trial.

I’ll state up front that all of those witnesses were helpful to the defense narrative of innocence in this case to at least some degree, really without exception. In my view, however, the three most important, at least in the context of the defense case in chief we’ve seen so far, were use-of-force expert Brodd, Parks Officer Chang, and Floyd ex-girlfriend Shawanda Hill, as well as the body camera footage of Officer Creighton.

The witness I’ll focus on the most here, however, is use-of-force expert witness Barry Brodd, and that’s not because he did a great job on the witness stand for the defense. Indeed, I found Brodd’s performance to fall astonishingly short of what the defense needed in this case, particularly in the specific context of use-of-force expertise.

Will Derek Chauvin take the stand? Ex-cop's defense opens its case with video of George Floyd 'feigning medical distress and swallowing pills' in never-before-seen 2019 arrest
See also here.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The prosecution rested its case-in-chief on Tuesday morning after 11 days of testimony from 38 witnesses

  • All eyes are now on Derek Chauvin's defense attorney Eric Nelson

  • Nelson is expected to present a much more succinct case for his acquittal based on the assertion that Floyd's death was caused by his drug use and underlying health problems, not the police restraint

  • It remains unclear whether Chauvin will be called as a witness in his own defense

  • The defense opened on Tuesday with video from Floyd's arrest on May 6, 2019

  • Nelson sought to show that Floyd had a history of feigning medical distress and swallowing drugs when approached by police

  • On Monday Judge Peter Cahill told jurors to expect to hear closing statements at the start of next week

  • The third week of Chauvin's trial kicked off amid protests over the police shooting of a black man in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center

1. ...was actively resisting arrest

2. ...was 90 lbs bigger and almost a foot taller than he

3. ...was delirious and foaming at the mouth

4. ...had just stuffed still more pills in his mouth while inside the police car

5. ...had attracted an angry, screaming, threatening mob that surrounded and was beginning to approach the police

6. ...was exhibiting the routine Assholery of the sort that American police encounter when dealing with lowlifes -- lying and absurd histrionics alternating with violent resistance, generally deluded and depraved behavior

#4  Normally only a foolish lawyer would put their defendant on the stand but in this case I think the verdict was pre-determined so they have nothing to lose.

It'll probably play out like the end of To Kill a Mockingbird in which the lawyer proves his clients innocence and he gets a guilty verdict anyway. Then in a few decades he might have a chance at a fair trial but probably not.

Then the blue flu and early retirement will really hit the city.

Afghanistan
US Troops to Leave Afghanistan by Sept. 11, 2021: Washington Post
[ToloNews] "President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body.......
will withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan over the coming months, people familiar with the plans said, completing the military exit by the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that first drew the United States into its longest war," the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, Biden is expected to announce his decision on Wednesday.

"This is the immediate, practical reality that our policy review discovered," the person familiar with the deliberations said. "If we break the May 1st deadline negotiated by the previous administration with no clear plan to exit, we will be back at war with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, and that was not something President Biden believed was in the national interest."

In early March, Blinken made a diplomatic effort to bring the Taliban and the Afghan government together to end the war with an interim power-sharing arrangement. He warned Ghani in a letter that time was growing short and said that the May 1 option was still on the table. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
since taking office, Biden has repeatedly mentioned the logistical difficulty of meeting the May 1 deadline for logistical reasons, and his administration has said the Trump-brokered agreement was under review.

Under the US-Taliban peace agreement signed on February 2020, all US forces stationed in Afghanistan must leave the country by May 1. But sources close to the Taliban have said that the Biden administration has asked the Taliban to agree on the presence of the US forces for another three or six months.

This comes as an UN-led conference on Afghanistan is expected to be held in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
on April 24.
Khaama Press adds:
There are 2,500 U.S troops stationed in Afghanistan, the statistical figure of the residing troops is not exact, but there are additional 7,000 Coalition and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
troops in the country.

US Army Chief: 'Multiple Contingencies' for Afghanistan Policy

[ToloNews] US Army Chief of Staff General McConville, in response to questions from the Washington Post about the US involvement in Afghanistan, said: "I know there’s a lot of interest in what is happening in Afghanistan. And you know, the administration is leading with policy. They’re going to shape it with diplomacy, and then the military will execute those orders. They’re in the process right now. There’s multiple contingencies. And once those decisions are made at the highest level, we’ll be ready to execute."

Asked about the practical ability of the US military to rapidly withdraw troops, Gen. McConville said it all comes down to "physics," in terms of moving troops and equipment, adding that "the commanders in the field have those type of contingency plans" to advise big shots in the administration. He said "those plans were available right now."

In response to a question about whether US General Scott Miller, commander of US and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
forces in Afghanistan, and other leaders were preparing for the possibility that they could come under significant attack over the next weeks and months, Gen. McConville praised General Miller—"I don’t think there’s any finer combat leader in the United States Army"--and said "we’re all going to make sure that our troops are taken care of and have the proper defense mechanisms in place..."

Asked about the meaning of the war in Afghanistan and the service of US soldiers, Gen. McConville framed it as having successfully prevented further terrorism in the US from Al Qaeda: "They’ve basically prevented al-Qaeda from attacking our country again. But there’s much, much more work that’s going to be needed to be done in Afghanistan, and we’ve given the Afghan a start in doing that. And it’s going to end with some type of political agreement."

General McConville added: "When we take a look at it, our country was attacked on 9/11, and we knew who did it. We knew where they were. And by going to Afghanistan, we had--we were able to hold those who did it accountable. We were also able to prevent al-Qaeda from being operational from that sanctuary over the last 20 years. And that’s the contribution (US troops) made to world security by going and volunteering to serve. And I’m very, very proud of this generation, of how they continue to raise their right hands and say send me. So, I’m extremely proud of the young men and women today.

Speaking in broader terms, the general said "when we take a look at what’s going around the world, many of these conflicts are going to continue until we get the appropriate political solution. And you know, one of the big takeaways is just how important security provided by the country, it is."

Taliban unwilling to attend the ‘Peace Conference’ on Afghanistan in Turkey until Americans gone
[KhaamaPress] Soon after the US forces’ withdrawal timeline from Afghanistan was leaked through the US media channels, the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
announced they will not attend any conference on Afghanistan until the full withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan is completed.

According to sources close to the Biden administration who have spoken to the US media channels, the US forces withdrawal from Afghanistan will be completed by 9/11, 2021 which will be officially announced by the Biden administration on Wednesday.

Dr. Mohammad Naeem Wardak, a spokesperson to the Taliban group in Qatar

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
in a tweet has said that until the full foreign forces withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban group will not participate in any conference on Afghanistan.

The IEA performs its works with consultations according to the guidance of the noble religion of Islam and then adopts the stance whatsoever is decided in the result of the consultation, Wardak has said.

This comes as the Foreign Ministry of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
announced the date of a ’Peace Conference’ on Afghanistan which is set to be held in Istanbul from 24th of April until 4th of May.

The Istanbul conference is hosted by the Ottoman Turkish government with the UN and Qatar government as co-conveners.

Africa Subsaharan
Nigerians 'Besiege' U.S. Embassy Over Communications Minister's Alleged Link to Boko Haram
It’s not clear to me whether this is a real problem or if this is just rumour-driven hysteria.
[AllAfrica] Nigerians yesterday sent a deluge of requests to the Embassy of the United States of America in Abuja, trying to get more information and clarification on the alleged links of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Isa Pantami, to Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations around the world.

There was outrage over the alleged links of the minister to the holy warriors when it was reported on Sunday that he was on the watch list of America's Intelligence Service. Pantami quickly denied the allegation and threatened to initiate legal action against those who reported the alleged links.

French court upholds decision not to try Muslim man who killed Jewish woman Sarah Halimi
[IsraelNationalNews] Relatives of a Paris woman who was killed by her neighbor while he spewed anti-Semitic slurs and was high on marijuana have lost their final appeal to have the killer tried.

In its decision Wednesday, the Court of Cassation’s Supreme Court of Appeals upheld rulings by lower tribunals that Kobili Traore cannot stand trial in the 2017 killing of Sarah Halimi because he was too high on marijuana to be criminally responsible for his actions.

Fifth Column
BLM says story about co-founder's new multi-million dollar home are fueled by 'white supremacy'
She collected a lot of returnable bottles and cans?
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Black Lives Matter put out a statement on Tuesday in reaction to the revelations that co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors
...her married name as of 2016, she is also known by her maiden name: Patrisse Cullors. The “queer” artist and art professor with a fondness for overly revealing clothing was mentored in her youth by Black Panther/SDS Weatherman/Red Diaper baby Eric Mann, which explains a great deal...
purchased a multi-million dollar home, and questions as to whether BLM was the source of the funding that enabled that real estate buy.

The statement claims that the source of the revelations about the home buy, which were first reported in Dirt, are from conservatives who seek to do Khan-Cullors and her mission harm. Many conservatives, including Candace Owens and Jason Whitlock, were simply horrified that an avowed Marxist would be indulging in capitalistic luxuries.

The statement reads that:

"Patrisse Cullors is the Executive Director of Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF). She serves in this role in a volunteer capacity and does not receive a salary or benefits.

"Patrisse has received a total of $120,000 since the organization's inception in 2013, for duties such as serving as spokesperson and engaging in political education work. Patrisse did not receive any compensation after 2019.

"To be abundantly clear, as a registered 501c3, BLMGNF cannot and did not commit any organizational resources toward the purchase of personal property by any employee or volunteer. Any insinuation or assertion to the contrary is categorically false.

The Grand Turk
Top European Court Rules Turkish Writer Altan's Rights Were Violated
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Europe's top human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
court ruled on Tuesday that the right to liberty and freedom of expression of Ottoman Turkish journalist and author Ahmet Altan had been violated due to his detention and imprisonment on charges related to a 2016 coup attempt.

Altan, 71, has been in prison since September 2016, when he was detained over allegations that he disseminated subliminal messages related to the coup attempt during a TV program, as well as articles he had written criticizing the government.

He was sentenced to life in jail in 2018 without parole for attempting to overthrow the constitutional order but the ruling was later overturned by the top appeals court.

Altan was then re-tried and sentenced to more than 10 years for aiding a terrorist organization. He was briefly released due to time served but re-arrested a day later after the prosecutor objected. The top appeals court is still reviewing the case.

The European Court of Human Rights ruled that Altan's right to liberty and security had been violated since he was accused without reasonable suspicion.

"The Court found that the applicant's criticisms of the President's political approach could not be seen as an indication that he had prior knowledge of the attempted coup," the court said.

"Therefore the logic applied in the present case by the authorities — equating those activities to the offences with which the applicant had been charged — could not be regarded as an acceptable assessment of the facts," it said.

The court said Altan's freedom of expression was violated because his detention could not be justified by law. But it ruled it could not be established beyond doubt that Altan's detention had served an ulterior purpose.

Veysel Ok, one of the lawyers who applied to the ECHR, said it was obvious that Altan's detention was political and that the court should have found a violation in that regard.

"Ahmet Altan was arrested because he was targeted by the political power and media close to the government. The court ruled that his detention was not political. The ruling is lacking in this regard," he told Rooters.

While ECHR decisions are binding, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
has ignored several recent rulings, including calls to release philanthropist Osman Kavala and pro-Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas.

Government Corruption
Huge 'no bid' Gov't money to be made in kid trafficking
How many of those “children” are actually adults? How many, no matter the age, are narco gang members or mules?
[Washington Examiner] An organization with ties to the Biden administration was awarded a $530 million no-bid federal contract to care for unaccompanied migrant children after they have come across the southern border, a person familiar with the contract confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

The Biden administration has, for the second time in a month, awarded a massive federal contract to the group without allowing other businesses and nonprofit groups to submit their proposals and bids for the job, Axios reported late Tuesday. Family Endeavors, a Texas-based nonprofit organization whose leadership has close ties back to the White House, was awarded an $87 million no-bid contract in March.

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded Family Endeavors the $530 million contract to help with the "emergency intake" and "wrap-around care" of children once they are transferred from Border Patrol facilities to Pecos, Texas, for longer-term care. There, social workers will search for an adult sponsor in the United States to release the child to. Children are in HHS custody for roughly one month.

The contract is the second-largest ever to be awarded by ACF and the second from HHS to go to Family Endeavors. Already, HHS has opened more than a dozen emergency facilities in southern border states, as well as Michigan and Pennsylvania, to hold the more than 18,000 children in its care as of Monday.

But Family Endeavors does have a former senior official on the Biden transition team in its leadership: former ICE official Andrew Lorenzen-Strait, identified as a potential broker in the deal by Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia, who is tracking the ICE contract, as well as two others with knowledge of the situation.

On Jan. 20, Inauguration Day, Family Endeavors announced that Lorenzen-Strait would become its senior director for migrant services and federal affairs, meaning that he would be the organization’s liaison to the federal government. Within two months, Lorenzen-Strait secured the contract, and now, a second larger one.

Iraq
A special force from Baghdad arrests Babel's Governor
That was fast. We only found out he’d disappeared yesterday.
[SHAFAQ] A security source reported on Tuesday that a special force had arrested Babel's Governor, Hassan Mandil al-Sariawi.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that a special security force coming from Baghdad managed to arrest al-Sarayawi, after a series of raids in several places.

According to the source, the security forces transferred al-Sarayawi to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, after he was arrested on corruption charges.

On March 24, a security force raided the homes of relatives of the governor of Babel and other officials, hours after the issuance of an arrest warrant against al-Sariawi, for "tampering with the record of land distribution".

Courted by Likud, Ra’am adamant it will not back away from anti-Zionist charter
Honesty is always helpful, even if not approved of by the King of Lies.
[IsraelTimes] The Islamist Ra’am political party, positioned as a likely linchpin for any prospective governing coalition, is standing by its foundational charter, which forbids any allegiance to Israel and deems Zionism a "racist, occupying project," a senior party official told The Times of Israel this week.

The faction is being wooed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who needs the support of Ra’am to pass the 61-seat threshold for forming a majority coalition, or the party’s outside backing for a minority coalition. The party could also help an anti-Netanyahu bloc led by Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid. But some right-wing politicians, both in the pro- and anti-Netanyahu camps, have ruled out basing a coalition on the party’s support, due to what they say is an anti-Zionist stance; others, like the far-right Religious Zionism, have accused Ra’am of supporting terrorists.

Ra’am is the political wing of the Southern Islamic Movement, an organization inspired by the Moslem Brüderbund.

Swiss Money Laundering Probe Eyes Lebanon Central Bank Chief

Lebanon Opposition Wants Joint Election Push to Oust Elite
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] A coalition of Lebanese civil society groups and parties called Tuesday for a unified electoral bloc to try to defeat traditional leaders in 2022 polls.

The joint appeal by 16 groups, including the National Bloc, Beirut Madinati and Mintishreen, marks the most concerted effort yet towards forming an opposition umbrella to take on the ruling elite in parliamentary elections scheduled for May 2022.

"We are calling on all forces of change and the different revolutionary groups... to unify their ranks and work together towards forming the widest possible opposition bloc," spokesperson Nada Sehnaoui said.

"Together, we will develop a joint plan for our participation in parliamentary polls through joint opposition lists," she told a Beirut presser held at the National Bloc's headquarters.

The groups taking part so far have mostly coalesced around a 2019 protest movement demanding the wholesale removal of politicians widely deemed inept and corrupt.

They will run against established parties, many of which have been in power since the 1975-1990 civil war.

The coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)

's revolutionary momentum.

But anger is still rife over an economic crisis that has left more than 50 percent of the population below the poverty line.

The Lebanese pound has lost more than 85 percent of its value against the dollar in a devaluation that has eaten away at salaries and savings.

Consumer prices have skyrocketed and more people now depend on handouts and aid deliveries to survive.

"We don't have time to waste," Sehnaoui said.

"Hunger is stalking the vast majority of our people and the fate of our country is at stake."

Lebanon's President Says New Maritime Claim Needs Government Approval
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
’s president said on Tuesday a draft decree expanding its maritime claims in a dispute with Israel must be approved by the caretaker government, rejecting a request to grant it swift presidential approval.

The dispute with Israel over the maritime boundary has held up hydrocarbon exploration in a potentially gas-rich area of the eastern Mediterranean.

The decree, approved by Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister, defense minister and minister of public work on Monday, would add around 1,400 square km (540 square miles) to an exclusive economic zone in the eastern Mediterranean claimed by Lebanon.

Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab’s office said the decree should be approved by President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
so that the new maritime coordinates setting out Lebanon’s claim could be submitted to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
But the presidency said it should be approved by Diab’s full cabinet, even though the government resigned eight months ago following a devastating explosion in Beirut, because of the gravity of the issue.

The draft decree "needs a collective decision from the council of ministers..., even under a caretaker government, due to its importance and the consequences," a statement from Aoun’s office said.

Aoun’s decision could significantly delay the process. Since the government resigned in August it has referred all issues for exceptional approval by the president, leaving them to get formal endorsement when a new government is finally agreed.

Negotiations were launched in October to try to resolve the dispute with Israel yet the talks, a culmination of three years of diplomacy by the United States, have since stalled.

Israel already pumps gas from offshore fields but Lebanon has yet to find commercial gas reserves in its own waters.

Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said on Monday Lebanon’s expanded claim would derail the talks rather than help work towards a common solution, warning that Israel would implement "parallel measures".

Lebanon, in the throes of a deep financial meltdown that is threatening its stability, is desperate for cash as it faces the worst economic crisis since its 1975-1990 civil war. But politicians have failed to bridge their differences and form a new government.

Syrian FM demands US pay compensation for 'heavy damage' to the country
“Uncle Sugar’ll pay. He loves to give away money.”
[ALMASDARNEWS] Damascus demanded that the American administration "compensate for the heavy damage and heavy losses inflicted by the American aggression and occupation against the Syrian people."

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said that Syria "bears the US administration’s consequences for its criminal policies against the Syrian people," adding that "the United States and its tools in the world and the region are involved in sponsoring an unprecedented terrorist war" against Syria.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry reviewed the US administration’s positions regarding Syria from recognizing Israel’s annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan to the new method represented by "direct American intervention in northeastern Syria by supporting terrorist separatist militias in that region, not to mention its control of terrorist ISIS elements and assigning them to terrorist tasks inside Syria and outside it, and the direct American military intervention in bombing the infrastructure that the Syrian people built with their efforts and capabilities."

They continued that the American administration "added to their crimes the theft of Syrian oil and Syrian wheat and their use to serve their coffers and snuffies at the expense of starving the Syrian people, impoverishing them and depriving them of their national wealth in an attempt to complete their inhuman measures represented by the notorious Caesar Act and their pressures on the countries of the world with the aim of stopping their economic dealings with Syria. and the Syrian people were suffocated by their daily power."

The Syrian Foreign Ministry described the US practices in Syria as "behavior outside international law that deserves condemnation and accountability on the part of the international community."
