Afghanistan
Nearly 7,400 Afghan Civilians Killed, Wounded Last Year: MoI
[ToloNews] Nearly 7,400 Afghan non-combatants were killed and maimed as a result of suicide kabooms and explosions last year, the Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Friday.

The MoI released a report saying 2,219 non-combatants were killed another 5,170 were maimed in 2019.

The Interior Ministry in the report blamed the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
for the fatalities; however, two days ago the Taliban said that the Afghan government forces and their foreign counterparts were responsible for the casualties.

According to the report, August, September and October 2019 were the most deadly months for the Afghan civilians during last year.

"The majority of the casualties occurred as a result of terrorist attacks and roadside mine explosions (IEDs)," said Nusrat Rahimi, a front man for the Ministry of Interior.

But the Taliban said that 94 percent of the casualties were carried out by the Afghan cops and their foreign colleagues.

"They must work on the grinding of the peace processor so that we can have a nationwide ceasefire in place in Afghanistan and reduce the number of casualties among the civilians," said Sayed Hassan Paktiawal, a member of the Afghan parliament.

"The warring sides of the conflict have been responsible for the casualties, but, overall, there is a reduction in civilian casualties from the government side," said Shukrullah Mashkoor, a front man for the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).

"They must try to reach to some sort of conclusion with this group (Taliban) to decrease the toll on civilians," said Ramish, a resident in Kabul.

"Casualties are increasing day by day, the ministry of interior is responsible to prevent casualties," said Tamim, a resident in Kabul.

the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in a an earlier report said that over 8,000 Afghan non-combatants were killed and maimed in the first three quarters of 2019.

#1  The entire war is founded on lies. The US government and military (cry) have been lying about this war for 18 years now. Time to get out. Stop the killing of *everyone*. Goat herder or not.

All of Afghanistan isn't worth a single American soldier's life.

#4  There was a big hole in NYC that sort of physically contradicted your charge of 'lies' Herb. The perps and the people who protected them were based in Afghanistan. The lie was 'nation building' instead of the classic search and destroy mission which should have included the Taliban's own sponsors in Pakistan.

#5  I partly agree with Herb Macro. The entire war was not founded on lies, but a lot of lying has gone on - it's what politicians do to improve/defend their position, and top military officers are also politicians. And indeed, all of Afghanistan isn't worth a single American soldier's life. But destroying threats to Americans is why soldiers exist, and some of those threats are in A'stan - gotta get 'em where you can.
Posted by: Glenmore || 01/04/2020 9:32 Comments || Top||

#6  Iran is the major threat. Pakistan is a major nuisance. Afghanistan is not our concern.
Posted by: Lex || 01/04/2020 9:56 Comments || Top||

#7  If I read history correctly, most wars don't have clean resolutions like WWII. Generally nobody wins overwhelmingly, and another war starts up a generation or two later. Last time I checked, the USA not only isn't omnipotent, our military and civilian leaders tend to take their eyes off the ball a lot.

Afghanistan was never a good candidate for nation-building. It was going to be an "exterminate them all" or a "go back and do it all again 30 years later." I'm not going for option A. That leaves option B: my grandson may have to go to war there one day. I'm not looking forward to that, but that's life in a fallen world.

Psychologist behind Britain’s terrorist deradicalisation scheme says there is NO guarantee offenders can ever be ‘CURED’ or pose no threat to society
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Christopher Dean said we must be 'careful' about saying extremism is 'cured'

  • Mr Dean is the psychologist behind the Healthy Identity Intervention scheme

  • He said some offenders who take part regress afterwards due who they mix with

  • London Bridge killer Usman Khan attended a deradicalisation programme while on licence

  • Lee Rigby's killer Michael Adebolajo is now reportedly an unofficial mentor in such a programme

One possible cure, Pirmus, "Can of Pork Soda".

Odd that a "doctor" should admit trying to cure a muslim without naming the disease. Islam.

Signs? An innate drive to,

1. please a child rapist
2. worship a pagan pig moon god
3. while attempting both, to live (die) for the promises of endless
a. child rape
b. rape of virgins
c . rivers of wine and honey, "young boys fine as pearls". 52:24

#3  Woodrow is right. The problem is not a behavioral condition, it is the very civilization the muslim psyche belongs to.

Dr. Dean worked for more than a decade in prisons with violent offenders, sociopaths and pathological aggressive types before he started looking into terrorism. He was working with UK's Offender Management Services, under their home depts. I think they later diversified into containing extremism too. He now works with their PREVENT program. One of the more optimistic people, so his saying this means something.

The UK began their anti-radicalization effort immediately after 9/11 happened. Under PM Blair's watch they made great headway pun intended in research and analyses of the muslim extremist. The Home office was not concerned then about sensibilities, or criticizing islamic texts or calling for reform in how masjids and imaams operate. But successive administrations diluted the study, scope and efficacy of the approach. They turned to psychiatry and new age solutions, school programs and covert surveillance-based supervision of citizens. The new approach became, 'extremist radicalism is just brainwashing of innocent youth', it can therefore be 'reversed by proper mental care and counseling'.

Their experts visited our eggheads too in Benaras in 2015, to more accurately understand the Paki mindset - because most of their offenders were turning out to be Pakis. It was only because we had insisted and our lobbies had urged Britain to send their radicalism researchers. You'll agree that an exchange of ideas was surely needed with the country that had successfully handled millions of sasquatches and kept them in line for five decades. A Dr. Sameer Lalwani and Dr Balachandran even visted UK universities, and tried to convince the experts there of the truth, that jihadis are not mentally ill. That radicalization is not an add-on to an otherwise normal psyche. That there is no cure if there's no illness. They just wouldn't listen.
My own paper was laughed at in Vauxhall because my technique proposed to induce dysfunction into the muslim extremist brain to render him useless to the jihad. But never mind...
They won't acknowledge the islamic and predatory culture angle, because the truth is not consonant with western urbanity and deference to muslims. It is enough they are acknowledging that it cannot be cured by their psychiatry.

China has shown the way to the world. The Xinjiang province has recently been upgraded to the biggest manufacturing community in the world. Hundreds of thousands of hands stitching shoes, weaving and stamping and assembling stuff happily singing songs about Mao or whatever.

The world shall have to realize that civilization has paused. It has paused is the desert kingdoms, it has entered a time warp in the shitholes where islam exists. It has been crippled in otherwise healthy progressive societies which welcomed muslims into their midst and gave space to masjids and funny beards. Islam will resist your civilization, and it will resist your efforts to reform it's adherents. The one approach the west haven't tried yet is reforming islam itself. Hacking away at it's ungainly protuberances into your civilization by outlawing practice after practice, until all they have left is a faith.

The least we can do is acknowledge that these are two civilizations at war. Modern psychiatry is a sham that has failed its own civilization, how in hell is it going to help here ?

I've come to find (about 7 years ago) that a leftist's mind (such that it is) works in the same manner. That's why they a) it is futile to argue with them, b) they will never change their minds and c) they will never admit when they are wrong.

#11  They say you can't cure a pedophile, they will always have urges. I suspect the pull of radical Islam is even stranger because it had a culture behind it for ones lifetime and even has 1/2 of the enemy agreeing as well. If they truly are cured they'll understand the new explosive neck collars that keep them in certain jurisdictions.

Iraq’s Sadr reactivates famous anti-US ‘Mahdi Army’ after strike

Taking to Twitter, Sadr orders "fighters, particularly those from the Mahdi Army, to be ready" following the strike, reactivating the notoriously anti-American force nearly a decade after he dissolved it.

American oil field workers evacuating Iraq, Germans button up tight, Brits up security across MidEast, Chabad ditto worldwide
[AlAhram] American nationals working at Iraqi oil fields were evacuating the country on Friday after a US strike killed top Iranian and Iraqi commanders in Baghdad, an oil ministry front man said.

Several had already left on Friday morning and others were preparing to fly out, Assem Jihad told AFP, adding that there was "no impact" on Iraq's oil production.

The number of American staff at fields in OPEC's second-biggest crude producer had already dwindled in recent months as tensions between the US and Iran

Germany orders troops in Iraq to stay in their bases

[IsraelTimes] Germany’s defense ministry says its soldiers who help train local forces in Iraq have been ordered not to leave their bases following the US killing of a top Iranian general in Baghdad.

Germany currently has 130 soldiers in Iraq. Defense ministry spokeswoman Christina Routsi says the troops “will have a restriction… no movement outside military facilities in Taji and Baghdad.”

Routsi says the training of Iraqi troops will continue.

Germany has a longstanding warning against travel to most of Iraq. Now it says the situation in the Middle East has reached “a dangerous escalation point” with the killing of elite Quds Force chief Gen. Qassem Soleimani and vows of retaliation from Iran.

#5  The last time Iran stepped out of line it lost half its Navy. This time it will see its petroleum infrastructure destroyed. With that, Iran, as now governed, will have an economy that will take a decade or more to recover.

#6  Spengler/David P Goldman doesn't expect war but notes that the Israelis hold the high cards:

Two dozen Israeli missiles or bomber sorties could wipe out Iran’s economy in a matter of hours, and that makes a war unlikely for the time being. Fewer than a dozen power plants generate 60% of Iran’s electricity, and eight refineries produce 80% of its distillates.

A single missile strike could disable each of these facilities, and bunker-buster bombs of the kind that Israel used last month in Lebanon would entirely destroy them. And as Hillel Frisch points out in the Jerusalem Post, with a bit more effort Israel could eliminate the Port of Kharg from which Iran exports 90% of its hydrocarbons.
