Venezuela opposition fumes about deaths of party activists
Venezuelan opposition leader Henrique Capriles demanded justice on Sunday for the shooting of three of his activists, while His Excellency President-for-Life, Caudillo of the Bolivarians Hugo Chavez promised to expand his socialist agenda if he wins next weekend's election.

With a week to go, Venezuela's presidential race looks close and tensions are rising. On Saturday, gunnies killed three pro-Capriles activists in Barinas state - the worst violence of the campaign.

"Yesterday, sadly, violence took three lives, something that should never have happened," Capriles told hundreds of thousands of exuberant supporters at a rally in Caracas that appeared to be the largest of his campaign.

"I want to tell their families, and those angels in heaven, that we are going to defeat violence on the 7th of October."

Capriles' Primero Justicia (Justice First) party said the assailants had fired from a van that witnesses identified as belonging to a state agency, after Chavez supporters had blocked an opposition motorcade.

The government did not admit fault in the shooting, but promised an investigation into what it said was an isolated incident in the South American nation of 29 million people.

"Anything that harms peace and stability must be condemned," Chavez's campaign chief Jorge Rodriguez said.

Illegals to get Caliphornia Driver's Licenses
Young undocumented immigrants will be able to receive California driver's licenses under legislation Gov. Jerry Brown signed on Sunday.
Then they've got an ID to vote. Coincidence?
As many as 350,000 undocumented immigrants in California may be eligible for the Obama administration program, which waives the threat of deportation for two years for those who have no criminal record.
What's that got to do with illegal driver's licenses?
Young people would qualify if they are accepted by a federal program giving work permits to those who came to this country before they were 16 and are now 30 or younger.

A Brown front sman said that by issuing the driver's licenses, the state will merely be adhering to the new federal rules imposed by the White House.

"Gov. Brown believes the federal government should pursue comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship," Duran said.
Thereby getting around all that old-fashioned rigamarole and handily subverting the existing immigration laws.
"President Obama has created recognized the unique status of these students, and making them eligible to apply for driver's licenses is an obvious next step."

#1  Let them vote on succession then join Mexico. Better deal would be to get money from Mexico for the purchase of California to apply to our debt.
Hurry before the earthquake. Now thats what I would call a fire sale.:)

A pedantic nerd would note that being in the country illegally is a criminal act.

Not a bad deal, actually. I'm almost tempted to sign up. Do you need papers to prove you're an undocumented immigrant?

India-Pakistan
Another KP child tests positive for polio
[Dawn] Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
has reported another polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
case, taking this year's tally of the fresh sufferers of the crippling disease to 15.

The relevant provincial health officials told Dawn on Saturday that 15 months old Bilal Khan, a resident of Sangao village in Achini Union Council of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, had tested positive for polio.

They said the child received only two doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) and that, too, in July when vaccination campaign began in his area, which couldn't be accessed by health workers previously due to lawlessness in the nearby Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency.

After the surfacing of the fresh polio case, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has strengthened the union council polio eradication committees (UCPECs) across the province to ensure vaccination of all children under five, according to an official.

"The cope with the situation, the government has made a programme for strengthening the campaign at UC level to ensure that all children of immunisable age receive OPV," he said.

When contacted, provincial health secretary Ishfaq Khan said polio eradication had been declared a national emergency by the federal government and therefore, special measures had been taken to reach all children under five for immunisation.

"We've fully implemented the Augmented National Emergency Action Plan to ensure our children's immunisation. We're fully committed to the eradication of polio from the province, as we want to protect children against disabilities," he said.

The secretary said the government had allocated Rs35.15 million for strengthening UCPECs to create demand for vaccination in collaboration with local authorities.

He said the chief minister and chief secretary had taken keen interest in efforts meant to spread immunisation activities across the province.

Mr Ishfaq said the health officials had pushed WHO officials, who came in from Geneva last week, for more anti-polio support in the province.

He said the government had planned two immunisation campaigns every month to cover more and more children and that besides national immunisation days, more immunisation efforts would get underway next month.

He said district polio control rooms had been set up in every district to monitor the anti-polio situation.

"We, in collaboration with district governments, have been trying to increase public awareness of the vaccines' importance.

We've made district coordination officers accountable for anti-polio drives in their respective districts," he said.

The secretary said the government had an unshaken resolve to eradicate polio from the province at all costs and that it's that commitment, which had reduced polio incidence.

Mr Ishfaq said support of other partner organization like WHO and Unicef against polio had been vital.

"Their support has brought the country closer to the polio elimination stage. Our polio eradication initiative has been quite successful and we are hopeful that the country will be polio-free in near future," he said.

Attack on Hindus prompts blasphemy case in Pakistan
[Dawn] A group of Mohammedans suspected of ransacking a Hindu temple in southern Pakistain may be charged with blasphemy, police said Sunday.

The case is a rare twist on the use of the country's blasphemy laws, which are more often invoked against supposed offenses to Islam as opposed to minority faiths.

The laws, sections of which carry the death penalty or life imprisonment, have drawn renewed international scrutiny this year after a young Christian girl in Islamabad was alleged to have desecrated the Mohammedan holy book, the Koran.

A Mohammedan holy man Qari Mohammad Khalid Jadoon now stands accused of fabricating evidence against the girl, who has been sprung on bail and whose mental capacity has been questioned.

Police officer Mohammad Hanif said the anti-Hindu attack took place Sept. 21.

The government had declared that day a national holiday --a "Day of Love for the Prophet"-- and called on people to demonstrate peacefully against a US-made anti-Islam film that has sparked protests throughout the Mohammedan world.

Those rallies took a violent turn in Pakistain, and more than 20 people were killed.

Hanif said dozens of Mohammedans led by a holy man converged on the outskirts of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
in a Hindu neighborhood commonly known as Hindu Goth.

The protesters attacked the Sri Krishna Ram temple, broke religious statues, tore up a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu scripture, and beat up the temple's caretaker, Sindha Maharaj.

"The attackers broke the statues of (Hindu deities) Radha, Hanuman, Parwati and Krishna, and took away the decorative gold ornaments," Maharaj said. "They also stormed my home and snatched the gold jewelry of my family, my daughters."

Maharaj and other Hindu leaders turned to the police, who started the paperwork but haven't done much else against the holy man and eight other Mohammedans.

But none of the suspects had been found as of Sunday, Hanif said.

The police officer said the case against the attackers was registered under Section 295-A of the blasphemy laws, which covers the "outraging of religious feelings."

That section of the law can carry a fine or up to 10 years imprisonment, but, if the case were to proceed, it's unclear exactly what punishment would be imposed.

Court decisions in the past have often confused what penalties should be applied in blasphemy cases in Pakistain. And although many blasphemous acts are said to require the death penalty, Pakistain is not known to have executed anyone under the law. Still, many of the accused have been killed by gun-hung tough guys outside the courts.

Human rights activists say the blasphemy laws are too broad and vague, and that they often are used by people seeking to settle scores with rivals, or as a means of targeting Christians, Hindus and other members of minority religions.

Islamic conservatism, as well as extremism, is on the rise here, and even speaking out against the blasphemy laws can put people in danger.

Two prominent politicians, Salman Taseer and the sole Christian member of the federal Cabinet Shahbaz Bhatti, were assassinated in 2011 for urging reform of the law.
