Sudan Sets 'Deadlines' to Resolve North-South Issues
[An Nahar] Sudan has set deadlines to resolve outstanding disputes with the south, President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
said Sunday, as a top-level southern delegation wrapped up its first visit to Khartoum since independence.

"We have agreed to have committees and have given them deadlines to reach a solution on all the pending issues," Bashir told a news conference, standing alongside South Sudan's President Salva Kiir.

The failure of the two parties to resolve certain key issues, including oil and borders, and the ongoing conflict in Sudan's border region, where the army is battling rebels with historic ties to the south, have badly strained north-south relations.

No breakthrough deals were announced before Kiir's team departed for Juba.

But the two presidents on Sunday reaffirmed their intention to work together for peace and stability, and to put the years of conflict behind them, during a cordial visit that seems to have set the stage for future negotiations.

"My government is ready to discuss any final solutions on all outstanding issues, being on the economy, security, borders and Abyei's status," Kiir told news hounds.

"My brother al-Bashir and I myself are committed to ensure that none of these issues will take us back to war.

"There might be some elements on both sides that would like to take us back... to war. But I repeat, we left the war station behind in 2005."

South Sudan proclaimed independence from the north on July 9, after 22 years of devastating civil war, in which some two million people died.

The conflict, which was fuelled by religion, ethnicity, ideology and resources such as oil, ended with a 2005 peace agreement but left the south in ruins.

Efforts to regulate Sudan's political and economic division, both prior to and since partition, have made only limited progress.

Khartoum has insisted that future talks should take place directly between the two parties, without external mediation.

Libyan Islamist calls for 'moderate' Islam
An influential Libyan Islamist cleric, returning to his native land after the revolution, has demanded a role for "moderate" Islam in politics.

"We call for a moderate Islam. But you all have to understand that Islam is not just about punishment, cutting hands and beheading with swords," Ali Al-Sallabi said at a meeting late on Sunday that included supporters and opponents.

Without a formal political role, Sallabi has become a significant voice in Libyan affairs because he is close to the government of Qatar, an influential backer of the National Transitional Council.

Christians fear Islamist pressure in Egypt
[Dawn] On her first day to school, 15-year-old Christian student Ferial Habib was stopped at the doorstep of her new high school with clear instructions: either put on a headscarf or no school this year.

Habib refused. While most Mohammedan women in Egypt wear the headscarf, Christians do not, and the move by administrators to force a Christian student to don it was unprecedented. For the next two weeks, Habib reported to school in the southern Egyptian village of Sheik Fadl every day in her uniform, without the head covering, only to be turned back by teachers.

One day, Habib heard the school loudspeakers echoing her name and teachers with megaphones leading a number of students in chants of "We don't want Ferial here," the teenager told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Habib's was allowed last week to attend without the scarf, and civil rights advocates say her case is a rare one. But it stokes the fears of Egypt's significant Christian minority that they will become the victims as Islamists grow more assertive after the Feb. 11 toppling of President Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
. It also illustrates how amid the country's political turmoil, with little sense of who is in charge and government control weakened, Islamic conservatives in low-level posts can step in and try to unilaterally enforce their own decisions.

Wagdi Halfa, one of Habib's lawyers, said the root problem is a lack of the rule of law.

"We don't want more laws but we want to activate the laws already in place," he said. "We are in a dark tunnel in terms of sectarian tension. Even if you have the majority who are moderate Mohammedans, a minority of cut-throats can make big impact on them and poison their minds."

In the past weeks, riots have broken out at two churches in southern Egypt, prompted by Mohammedan crowds angered by church construction. One riot broke out, near the city of Aswan, even after church officials agreed to a demand by local ultraconservative Mohammedans, called Salafis, that a cross and bells be removed from the building.

The violence is particularly frustrating for Christians because soon after Mubarak's fall the new government promised to review and lift heavy Mubarak-era restrictions on building or renovating churches. The promise raised hopes among Christians that the government would establish a clear legal right to build, resolving an issue that in recent years has increasingly sparked riots. But the review never came, and Salafi holy mans have increased their rhetoric against Christians, including accusing them of seeking to spread their faith with new churches.

Habib's experience was startling because in general, Egypt's Christians, who make up at least 10 percent of the population of 80 million, have enjoyed relative freedom in terms of dress and worship. The vast majority of Mohammedan women in Egypt put on the headscarf, known as the higab, either for religious or social reasons, but there's little expectation that Christians wear it.

The demand that all students wear the hijab was a decision by administrators and teachers at the high school in Sheik Fadl, 110 miles (180 kilometers) south of Cairo in Minya province. They said the headscarf was part of the school uniform, necessary to protect girls from sexual harassment.

A top provincial Education Ministry official, Abdel-Gawad Abdullah, said in an interview with CTV, a private Egyptian Christian television network, that the ministry gives schools the right to decide on school uniforms, and that parents during screening and application can either accept or refuse.

"And if the father wants to move his daughter to another school, it is OK," he said. "All the girls, including the Christians, put on the head cover and they have no problem," he added.

Habib's father Sorial complained to officials, demanding his daughter be allowed to attend without a scarf.

"After the revolution, there are no administration and no officials to go to. The system is lax and there is no supervision from the ministry," he told AP. "If things were under control, cut-throats would not have a free hand to act as they wish."

Habib was finally allowed to attend last Tuesday.

"I am happy I did what I want and that no one can force something on me. But I am afraid of the students and the teachers," she told AP. "The teachers are not normal with me and I am sure they will give me low grades at the end of the year."

Hossam Bahgat, head of the Cairo-based Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, which tracks religious discrimination and other civil rights issues, said he had not seen a case like Habib's before. "We know that there is pressure on Mohammedan girls to put on the higab, especially in secondary school, not from the administration but from the girls."

He said some Mohammedan girls in general put on the veil to distinguish themselves from Christians.
That's because only Christian girls are kidnapped, forced to convert, and married off to Muslim friends of the kidnappers.

Egypt PM Appeals for Calm
[An Nahar] Prime Minister Essam Sharaf appealed to Egypt's Mohammedans and Christians not to give in to sectarian strife after almost 20 people died in festivities on Sunday between Coptic Christians and security forces.

"What is taking place are not festivities between Mohammedans and Christians but attempts to provoke chaos and dissent," he said on his Facebook page.

"This is not befitting the children of the homeland who remain and will remain a single hand against the forces of vandalism... and extremism," the premier said.

Sharaf called on Egyptians "not to give in to sedition because it is a fire which burns up everybody and does not distinguish between us."

Code Pink Protests Injured Veterans At Army 'Wounded Warrior' Run
30,000 people were expected to compete in the 27th annual Army Ten-Miler on Sunday.

This year saw the introduction of a new start and finish line for the runners. The race began on route 110 and finish in the Pentagon North Parking Lot. In between, runners crossed into Washington, D.C. via the Memorial Bridge, circled around the Watergate complex and skirted the south side of the National Mall before doubling back and recrossing the Potomac via the George Mason Memorial Bridge.

According to Representative (Col.) Allen West (R-FL):

...However, what struck me as shameful was Code Pink being out on the run course protesting. There were many Wounded Warriors doing the wheelchair race and running with their prosthetic devices.

Perhaps Code Pink does not realize that those "Army Strong" men and women make it possible for them to stand on Independence Ave and demean their service, sacrifice, and commitment...
Too bad nobody was offering free axe handles to military spouses.

Project Gunwalker: Issa to Subpoena Holder in 'Fast and Furious' Probe
In following this story -- from gathering info..... let Issa do the job.... Special Counsel? Everything then goes underground. Any administration personal ask about "Fast and Furious" has the rehearsed answer, "There is an on-going investigation etc, etc,, etc...." and can push that answer all the way to Nov 2012.

Question is: The House can impeach.... will Issa do that? He's on both the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee..... and is chosing his words wisely.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is planning to subpoena Attorney General Eric Holder this week to determine who in the Justice Department knew about "Operation Fast and Furious" -- the plan to let thousands of guns sold in the U.S. get into Mexican drug cartel hands -- and when they knew it.

The subpoena targeting Holder aims to get at the heart of the authorization for the program, and when the people in charge decided the program was a problem.

"When did they know it wasn't the right way to do it and why (did) they keep doing it?" asked committee chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif.

Issa, who is also a member of the House Judiciary Committee where Holder testified in May that he'd only learned of the program a few weeks earlier, told "Fox News Sunday" that "people in the top" of the Justice Department knew about the operation, were "well-briefed about it, and seemed to be the command and control and funding for this program."

Issa said those officials, who may or may not include Holder, would have known that the program was facing objections from law enforcement personnel in the field, but appeared to continue to let guns "walk" across the border.

"We didn't just have a few (guns) not be tracked. The whole program was about not tracking them until they were found in the scene of crimes. And they didn't just allow. They facilitated just one guy buy, one straw buy, over 700 weapons," Issa said.

On Friday, Holder issued a stern response to calls for a special counsel to probe the matter, saying he told the truth when he informed Congress he only heard about the program for the first time in April 2011. He added that earlier mentions of the program listed in at least five memos dated to 2010 did not indicate on first blush any problems with the program.

"I do not and cannot read them cover to cover," Issa wrote. "Here, no issues concerning 'Fast and Furious' were brought to my attention because the information presented in the report did not suggest a problem."

Freshman Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, said he can understand someone at Holder's level not reviewing every document that reaches his desk, but that when Holder knew he was going to testify about "Fast and Furious" to a House panel, he should have gotten brushed up on the program and its impact, including the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Guns linked to Fast and Furious were found at Terry's crime scene.
This is the heart of the cover-up.... Holder is gonna testify, under oath, before Congress. And he doesn't get a full briefer? Rehearse answers to possible questions? All Cabinet members are ready for a Congressional hearing, under oath. Why not Holder?
Labrador told Fox News that the response from Holder leaves him with no option but to conclude dishonesty or incompetence.

"By the time Officer Terry had been killed, there were other crimes linked to these guns. Why did he not do the research and find out how much his office knew? He was either lying or willfully neglecting to do his due diligence before he came before Congress," Labrador said.

"If, in fact, a border patrol agent has been murdered, 2,000 weapons have gone, this program has completely gone off of the rails, why didn't he know?" Issa asked.

In his response to House Republicans, Holder said that his critics have political motivations and added that he takes issue with the allegation that federal agents were "accessories to murder."

"Such irresponsible and inflammatory rhetoric must be repudiated in the strongest possible terms," Holder wrote. "Those who serve in the ranks of law enforcement are our nation's heroes and deserve our nation's thanks, not the disrespect that is being heaped on them by those who seek political advantage."

But Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff Paul Babeu said his state's elected sheriffs, of whom nine out of 15 are Democrats, support a special counsel.

"My deputies and officers across the southwest could face the barrel of a gun that our own government, Eric Holder and the president, put into the hands of these criminals," Babeu told Fox News. "Whoever approved this should be criminally held to account for this."

Issa said a special counsel should be appointed because "Eric Holder cannot investigate himself," but he said he's not going to let that get in the way of his investigation, which has been conducted in conjunction with Senate Judiciary Committee ranking Republican Charles Grassley of Iowa.

"Our investigation, along with Senator Grassley, has to get to the bottom of this sooner, not later, because the American people and people in Mexico don't trust their government right now," he said.
Labrador said whoever came up with the Fast and Furious program "needs to be fired."

"Anybody who failed to do their duty, because of this program, needs to be fired as well," he said.

#3  If you are talking about Wide Receiver? No comparison.... Agents had some methods to tracked the weapons.... using tracking devices in the guns, over head planes circling......

Walkers knew airplanes had to go into refuel.. others? well some of the trackers when implanted, just didn't work. The plan was good, the execution didn't work.

Years later, the same ATF agent in charge of Wide Receiver, begins F & F knowing that Wide Receiver was a disaster.

So, to make it better, let's just NOT attempt to track the guns. Yea... good one.... See where they turn up. We look good. Last time, the buyers tricked our trackers, we looked bad. This time? Oh.... just let them go.

And even better, let's have some of our ATF agents purchase the guns! WOW...

With Wide Receiver, there was focus to track the guns, as inapt as it was ..... In F & F, agents have testified.... there was no "tracking" of the guns..... and even were told to "stand down" when wanting to move in.

Now, pass some more of that escargot since it's on your bill...

Project Gunwalker: Issa To Holder on Fast and Furious: You Own It
Last week, Holder sent a letter to Issa. Today, Issa responses.

As one commenter stated: This is a call-out. Main Street at high noon, Holder.

Go forth and read!

Issa ends with:
Mr. Attorney General, you have made numerous statements about Fast and Furious that have eventually been proven to be untrue. Your lack of trustworthiness while speaking about Fast and Furious has called into question your overall credibility as Attorney General. The time for deflecting blame and obstructing our investigation is over. The time has come for you to come clean to the American public about what you knew about Fast and Furious, when you knew it, and who is going to be held accountable for failing to shut down a program that has already had deadly consequences, and will likely cause more casualties for years to come.

Operation Fast and Furious was the Department’s most significant gun trafficking case. It related to two of your major initiatives – destroying the Mexican cartels and reducing gun violence on both sides of the border. On your watch, it went spectacularly wrong. Whether you realize yet or not, you own Fast and Furious. It is your responsibility.

Project Gunwalker: Just Who is Holder's Inspector General?
Typical of any government cover up -- words are, "There is an on-going investigation..... etc... etc......"

Holder, etc.... have often referred to the investigation being conducted by the Instpecter General. Unknown, till now, is who is this Inspector General?

This article is entitled, "Fast and Furious in a Rotten Nutshell" -- it's worth the read cause it knits together lots of dangling ends.

But, let's explore, the parts from this article, who is this Inspector General?

Cynthia A. Schnedar is the acting inspector general, and just this past month, in yet another stunning revelation, it was discovered that she had released secret audio tapes of candid conversations from last March between Hope McAllister, an ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) agent in the Phoenix office, and Andre Howard, owner of a Phoenix-area gun shop, who had been authorized by the ATF to sell weapons to known Mexican cartel members in the botched sting operation.
We knew of this tape being released -- only that it had been release by the IG office.... no name given. Could this be a little "tainting the testimony?
On one of the tapes, they discuss a third Fast and Furious rifle that was found at the scene of the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in a remote area of southern Arizona last December. It had been widely reported that only two rifles were found at the scene, but recent reports tell of a cover-up. The third rifle would have led to an FBI informant.

As for the tapes, it was discovered by congressional investigators that Schnedar had inexplicably given a copy to the U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix before she had even reviewed them. The tapes then ended up being shared with the ATF office there. Both those agencies are among the many entities under investigation in the ever-expanding scandal.

So just who, one may wonder, is Acting Inspector General Cynthia Schnedar?

Until last January, she was deputy inspector general at the Justice Department, having served in that post since June of 2010. When longtime Inspector General Glenn Fine retired from his post in January of this year, Schnedar, as had been expected, was named as acting inspector general on January 29.

On March 10, Attorney General Eric Holder made his first of many comments about the internal investigation, telling Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison that he had "asked the Inspector General to try to get to the bottom of it."

"An investigation, an inquiry, is now underway," Holder added.
But should Cynthia Schnedar be the person to conduct the investigation?

It turns out that Ms. Schnedar has long and close ties to Mr. Holder. According to her biography on the Justice Department website, she became assistant U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. in 1994. Eric Holder had become the U.S. attorney in Washington the previous year, so he in effect was Schnedar's boss from 1994 until 1997, when he left to become President Clinton's deputy attorney general. Holder would become a key player in the scandalous pardons of fugitive billionaire Marc Rich and members of the Puerto Rican nationalist terrorist group known as FALN.

But during Ms. Schnedar's tenure before Holder had departed, it happened that they had ended up working a number of cases together. According to the LexisNexis website, there were at least fourteen of them, usually at the appellate level. For Holder, it was more than just "in name only"; in some of those cases, they apparently co-filed legal briefs.

In one case, they had represented the ATF. In another, they represented both the ATF and DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), an agency that has now also been linked to Fast and Furious.

Whenever either Eric Holder or President Obama is pressed on Fast and Furious, both refer to the Justice Department's internal investigation that happens to be headed by Ms. Schnedar.

President Obama has also noted the internal investigation. In his first known public comments about the scandal on March 22, he told Jorge Ramos of Univision that neither he nor Holder had authorized the operation. Obama then stated, "[S]o what he [Holder]'s done is he's assigned an I.G., an inspector general, to investigate what exactly happened[.]"

At that point, Ramos interrupted and asked, "So who authorized it?" Obama answered that, "[w]ell, we don't have all the facts. That's why the I.G. is in business. To collect the facts."

In a recently released letter to Schnedar, Issa and Senator Grassley noted that the investigator's actions had "undermined and obstructed" their investigation (the Oversight Committee had also obtained copies of the tapes), and they demanded answers concerning her behavior.

After the first tape was made public by CBS News as a result of Schnedar's actions, her office released a highly dubious explanation: that the U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix needed them for the pending prosecution of drug traffickers.

There are several questions about Ms. Schnedar that beg to be answered.

First, as she well knew, the U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix was also a target of the investigation. Both the U.S. attorney and the assistant U.S. attorney have since left because of the scandal.

Second, should Ms. Schnedar have immediately recused herself from the Fast and Furious investigation because of her long and deep ties to Mr. Holder?

Third, when Ms. Schnedar began her employment as assistant U.S. attorney in Washington in 1994, was it Mr. Holder (then the U.S. attorney) who hired her?

Lastly, Federal Election Commission records show that Schnedar donated to the Democratic National Committee in 2005. Does she now think that was proper?

Altaf sees conspiracy against PPP govt
[Dawn] In an obvious reference to Pakistain Mohammedan League president Nawaz Sharif

, Muttahida Qaumi Movement
...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead...
chief Altaf Hussain has said that "a leader from Punjab in connivance with some other people" is conspiring against the democratic government of the Pakistain People`s Party but his conspiracy will not succeed.

In a telephonic speech from London to party workers and leaders at the offices of the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation here on Saturday, the MQM leader criticised Mr Sharif and said he had visited Sindh just to fool the people.

He did not name Mr Sharif but said `a leader from Punjab` had gathered poor haris from different parts of Sindh to hold public meetings.

He went on to say that that those who had visited Nawabshah should tell who Ayesha Ahad was and why she had been put in a prison.

He urged the chief justice of Pakistain to take suo motu notice of alleged injustices carried out with the woman, who claims to be married to a son of the Punjab chief minister and was booked in a kidnapping case in Lahore.

Mr Hussain wondered how a leader who failed to provide justice to "his daughters and daughters-in-law" in his own house could provide justice to the people of Sindh.

He said an influential political family of the country which had carried out injustices with Ayesha Ahad was conspiring along with some other people to table a no-confidence motion against the government. "The PPP and the MQM know about this conspiracy and very soon this conspiracy will be unearthed and foiled."

Mr Hussain said that people of Punjab were giving an impression that the MQM was an anti-state party. "The MQM is a patriotic party. The MQM does not send looted money abroad."

He said if anyone had any proof against him, he was welcome to present it in courts.

He asked the law-enforcement agencies to take stern action against extortionists and faceless myrmidons irrespective of their party affiliations.

Hamas official pays symbolic visit to south Lebanon village
A touching politeness, but are they horning in on Hizb'allah territory?
Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Zahar paid a symbolic visit Sunday to the village of Marj Zuhour in south Lebanon, where he and 415 Hamas and Islamic Jihad activists camped for one year after they were expelled by Israel in December 1992 for their role in igniting the Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.

Zahar called on the Palestinians living in Lebanon not to take sides in internal Lebanese politics, promising to help alleviate their suffering in the camps.

Zahar and other Islamist deportees from Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials lived for one year in harsh conditions in tents in Marj Zuhour, a rocky and rugged area, where they had to do daily chores like cooking and washing their laundry and in some cases protect against mosquitoes and snakes. Their deportation gained unprecedented coverage by the local, Arab and foreign media.

Zahar was welcomed Sunday by residents and political parties in Marj Zuhour, where he began his tour of the village by kissing the soil of a monument of the spokesman for the deportees at the time, the late Hamas Gaza leader Abdel-Aziz Rantisi, who was assassinated by Israel on April 17, 2004.

Carrying a plough he used during the deportation period, Zahar said: “We have knelt for God several times. Each time, we prayed to return from this road through the Zoumaraya crossing to Palestine. God responded to our wish. After returning to Palestine, we implored God to grant us such a visit so that the will and dependence on God can be instilled in our minds.”

Zahar recalled that he and the other deportees lived one whole year in “harsh conditions, when [Israeli] shells crashed in the area and in the surrounding villages.”

He said out of the 416 deportees, 37 have been killed by Israeli air raids in Palestinian areas, at the forefront of them Rantisi.

“Despite all the losses, we have won,” he said, apparently referring to Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip which is now controlled by Hamas.

He thanked the Lebanese and the residents of Marj Zuhour, calling them “the most honorable and most sincere people we have ever known.”

Addressing the Palestinians in Lebanon from Marj Zuhour, the Hamas official said: “Learn from this experience of the deportees and do what we have done. You will get what we got. Don’t tamper with Lebanon’s security and don’t take sides in this country’s issues. Try to keep Palestine your target. Don’t give any chance to those fishing in murky waters. You are here the closest people to the homeland [Palestine].”

He warned Palestinians against giving priority to issues other than that of Palestine. “When Palestine was our political priority, we returned to it. If your political priority turned to partisan or sectarian purposes, you will not return [to Palestine],” Zahar said.

Referring to the miserable conditions in the refugee camps in Lebanon, Zahar said: “We will make all efforts either with the Arab League or with Arab states to help lift this injustice inflicted on you in the camps. It’s injustice that cannot be tolerated by any man and cannot be accepted by God Almighty.” He urged the Palestinians to respect the Lebanese people and their laws.

#3  The Taliban of Afghanistan did that once, back when they were running the country. How are they doing now, as they look ahead to the years when they should be enjoying a comfortable retirement without Predators hunting them?

#4  TW:

The Taliban strategy across the entire Regional Command spetrum is reported to be one of waiting us out, while at the same time, saving Zakat (money) and resources, and continuing an aggressive assassination program against the wobbly GIRoA government. The rainy season has just begun. In fact we've had showers on and off all day. These buggers are fair weather fighters. Ever see a man in a wet manjam and soggy Kandahari hat?

'Waiting us out' is precisely what I would do. It is a sound, long-term strategy. Why poke the beast with a stick, he's trying to find the door! Besides, it's difficult to transport explosives and weapons through the border mountain passes in bad weather. Takes a lot of work and effort, which are not generally acceptalbe traits here in these parts, except for wymin folk.

Meanwhile back in the safety of the Mosques and Madrassas of Pakistan, life goes on in a tone quite celebration. Taliban seeded, birthing incubators continue to turn out a fresh crop of future suicide bombers (it's a 12-15 year process... including schooling, weapons training, and Jihadi indoctrination) but it has to start somewhere eh? Short of total thremo-nuclear iniolations, does anyone really believe we can alter this process?

And so it goes in the Stans.

Lebanon Bans Screening of Documentary on Iran Vote
[An Nahar] The director of an Iranian film documenting violence in the run-up to the 2009 presidential vote has been banned from travel to Leb, where his film was set to be screened, an organizer said on Sunday.

"Today we found out that Iranian director Nader Davoodi will not be allowed to travel to Leb," said Colette Naufal, director of the Beirut International Film Festival which runs from October 5 to 13.

"Lebanese censorship authorities on Friday requested they see Davoodi's film 'Red, White and the Green' prior to its screening. We informed them that we decided to pull it from our program," Naufal said in a statement.

The 2010 film, to be screened as part of the festival's "Middle East Documentary Film Competition," focuses on the violent events of the last three weeks leading up to the June 2009 re-election of President Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad.

The Shiite Mohammedan movement Hezbullies, a major ally of Iran, leads the governing coalition in Leb, where authorities were not immediately available for comment on the film.

The news comes four months after the banning of "Green Days" by Iranian filmmaker Hana Makhamalbaf that shows raw footage of security forces cracking down on protests after the disputed election.

Makhamalbaf is a daughter of Mohsen Makhamalbaf, who is close to leading Iranian opposition leader Mir Hussein Moussawi, one of Ahmadinejad's challengers in the 2009 election who cried fraud when official results gave him victory.

Hizbullah's Rejection to Fund STL Not Subject to Bargaining
[An Nahar] Hizbullah has reiterated that it would not bargain on its decision to reject the funding of the Special Tribunal for Leb, An Nahar newspaper reported on Sunday.

Hizbullah "rejects any bargaining between the funding and other issues such as false witnesses or security appointments," sources close to the Shiite party told the daily.

The group will confirm its point of view when the funding issue is put up for discussion during cabinet sessions, they said.

They told An Nahar that the stance of Hizbullah ministers in the government will be based on an announcement made by Secretary-General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
in July 2010 and other statements and remarks that have set the party's viewpoint from the court ahead of the indictment that charged four of its members.

In July last year, Nasrallah said that all information that Hizbullah has show that the indictment in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri's Feb. 2005 liquidation was written in 2008 but it had been postponed for political reasons.

A political source close to the parliamentary majority warned that the funding of the tribunal would lead to a clash between Premier Najib Miqati and Hizbullah in the next few days.

Miqati "rejects a confrontation with the international community through a government that he heads," the source told pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat.

"Both sides will lose if such a confrontation takes place inside the ruling party," he said, adding that Miqati would either quit or go along with Hizbullah in rejecting the funding, putting himself on the international blacklist.

The premier reiterated during his visit to New York last month that Leb would pay its share of funds to the STL. On Thursday, he said paying Leb's share to the court will serve the country and the resistance.

If Leb paid its dues, it will spare itself harm because there are many who harbor ill-will against Leb and the resistance, he added.

#1  I for one will not be holding my breath for Hezbollah to fund any investigation unless some type of investigation that blames Jews for something.

Silly AD - everyone knows they don't need an investigation for that.
