-Lurid Crime Tales-
Today's Idiot(s)
Mods: per your request yesterday, I will only submit 1 entery per day. Hopefully they won't be dupes.
No probs. We just don't need more videos. If the Burg devoted itself to stupidity (er, let me re-phrase that) we wouldn't have any room for the WoT.
Video helps cops nab class clowns
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - A sticky situation at a school has come unglued. Police on Wednesday arrested two teenagers who they believe broke into their school last week and put glue in all the door locks. The teens, whose names are being withheld because of their age, were charged with burglary and criminal mischief, police spokesman Capt. Tony Rode said.

The damage cost McArthur High School nearly $30,000, Rode said.

Police and school officials were able to break into most of the classrooms before students arrived, but witnesses said some students were still stranded outside classrooms, according to The Miami Herald. Investigators used surveillance video to help catch the pair.

Traveller ejected for smell loses legal suit
BERLIN: A court in Germany rejected a man's compensation claim against an airline after a cabin crew ordered him off a plane because other passengers were offended by his smell, authorities said.

An appeals court in the western city of Duesseldorf upheld an earlier ruling that British Airways had acted within its rights by removing the man from the aircraft after a female passenger sitting next to him complained about his smell. "The stewardess took him to one side and asked him if he could put on a fresh shirt, but they were all in the hold," a court spokesman said. "So then he was asked to leave the plane – about two minutes before take off." BA said other passengers were upset by the smell, he added.

The corporate lawyer and his wife were scheduled to return home from Hawaii via Los Angeles on a BA flight sub-contracted to American Airlines last year, and missed their connection to Germany when the incident forced them to take the next plane.

#2  Gawd, let's hope this starts a trend. How about rejecting people who take up two seats due to their blubber oozing over into others personal areas? I think airlines are missing a real revenue boon by not enforcing weight restrictions. The amount of fuel burn at takeoff is directly related to weight. They would have a good basis for insisting on premiums for anyone grossly overweight. Help them recover some revenue and perhaps keep some of these whales off the planes.

#4  SecOp35. Current lawsuits are aimed at getting the obese 2 seats for the price of one. True slippages on some flights are required to pay for the two seats it takes to hold them. The disability crowd feels this is unfair and the second seat should be free.

As long as I don't have to squish between overlaps on both sides with me in the middle seat anymore, I'm happy.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
OSU vs. Michigan
Written in 2002, but still relevant today.

I have been trying to talk politics with people in Ohio for the last week, and they will not have it. They just want to talk about the war and all of Ohio is on fire! They mean a tumultuous war, a war with kith and kin and kind with kind confound, a war of quartering steel and climbing fire. The talk is only of the war with Michigan. After all, it has been going on since 1890’s. The story is filled with great captains (Woody Hayes) and the ministers and instruments of war, hearty and valiant troops (too many great ones to name), and even has a Benedict Arnold (except his name is Bo Schembechler in Ohio). It is a tale full of noble victories and unjust losses, of soothsayers in Columbus predicting a fourth quarter win in Michigan, of the hard knowledge that Ohio State has only won two out of the last fourteen games. This is no idle tale, it is close to the heart and mind of my fellow citizens. Identity and happiness is at stake. Tickets are being traded for first born sons, men are known to have given up their Helens to get to the game. Honor and the nobility of life are at stake. The Trojan War was nothing compared to this contest between giants. There is nothing else. The optimists argue that virtue is bold and that none by virtue fall. The pious pray that the God of battles steel our soldiers’ heart. And the pessimists hope that God will sort things out. Yet, we think we know that God is just.

These Buckeyes are people who know the disciplines of war. These bloody, bold, and resolute men are ready to try their fortunes, to the last. The state will effectively shut down on Saturday. Newborns on that day will be named Buck and Tressel, gender being irrelevant. Everything is at stake.

I was born and raised in Atlanta metro and thought the Univ. of GA/GA Tech rivalry was big. That is, until I went to Auburn for school, lol! I literally think that there's a checkbox on Birth Certificates in Alabama hospitals which tells which school you'll be destined to cheer for. No one cares about the gender, just which side of the fence you sit on during the Iron Bowl, lol!

#11  These Buckeyes are people who know the disciplines of war.

When my son was three years old I was watching a football game. He asked who the guys in the orange and white helmets were, and I told him the Tennessee Volunteers. He then asked who the guys in the silver helmets were, and I told him the Ohio State Buckeyes. He looked at me oddly, but went on about his business.

Later he was running around the house and I asked him what he was doing. He answered, "I'm one of the Ohio State Butt Guys." Good thing I wasn't drinking anything at the time.

#17  That was John Cooper (OSU) I believe. He coached in the early to mid-nineties. Couldn't beat Michigan.
It happened to an Alabama head coach in the eighties as well. Three seasons, three losses to Auburn.

Testy sea lion chomping on swimmers in SF park
SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- A California sea lion has bitten at least 14 people and chased 10 others out of the water this week at a public park's lagoon, prompting the city to temporarily close the area to swimmers. No serious injuries have been reported, but officials decided to ban swimming at the Aquatic Park Lagoon on Wednesday until the testy marine mammal has moved on.

Experts say the rogue sea lion could be protecting his harem of mates or might have brain damage from toxic algae.
Or he might be in a gang.
Celeste McMullin, who was bitten Monday, said she saw the animal lurking nearby but didn't think much of it. "I was swimming along minding my own business, and I felt a brush under my feet. And I thought, 'These feel like whiskers.' So I stopped, and the animal popped up. He/she looked at me."

McMullin then tried to swim away, but the sea lion followed, biting and bumping her continuously until she made it back to shore. She ended up with six bites: two puncture wounds and four cuts.

Marine Mammal Center veterinarian Frances Gulland said the animal may soon leave the area and advised swimmers to avoid the lagoon in the meantime. "The migration has started, and the animals are moving north to Washington state and Oregon," she said.

City health officials aren't recommending rabies shots, but victims were advised by the Marine Mammal Center to take antibiotics to ward off infection.

Aquatic Park Lagoon is part of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and not far from Fisherman's Wharf, where dozens of sea lions bask year-round on rocks below the pier and are a major tourist attraction.

President reduces Tahir's sentence
President Pervez Musharraf has commuted the death sentence against a British man who has spent 18 years behind bars disputing his conviction on charges of shooting dead a taxi driver, the interior minister said on Thursday. British and European officials, human rights activists and relatives of the inmate praised the decision to spare the life of Mirza Tahir Hussain, 36, who was convicted of killing Jamshed Khan shortly after arriving in Pakistan in 1988.

Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said President Musharraf on Wednesday converted Hussain’s death sentence to life in prison. A British High Commission official in Islamabad praised Musharraf for commuting Hussain’s sentence on “humanitarian grounds”.

Beauty queen downs arms to save legs
JERUSALEM: Miss Israel has been given permission not to carry her assault rifle during service in the Israeli army because she says it bruises her legs.

Reigning beauty queen Yael Nezri, a private who recently completed basic training, said the bruises were making it difficult for her to model in photo shoots.

The Jerusalem Post reported that Nezri, 18, had been granted an exemption by her commanders during her two-year army stint.

Indonesian black magic practitioner casts hex on Bush
A prominent Indonesian “black magic” practitioner on Thursday joined protests against US President George W Bush’s visit, slaughtering animals as he cast a spell aimed at disrupting the stay. The ritual by Ki Gendeng Pamungkas took place at a busy roundabout in this hill town which will host talks between Bush and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday.

Pamungkas said the ritual, which involved killing a snake, a black crow and a goat, deployed “Haitian-style voodoo” because “Indonesian black magic does not work on foreigners”. Smearing his face with a mixture of his own blood and that from the slaughtered animals into which broccoli and sugar cane was also cast, Pamungkas offered prayers to “Satan, who will bring disasters on Bush’s visit”. “My curse will make him bloat like broccoli. Bush will feel unease during the visit,” he said. Asked if he was confident the hex would work, Pamungkas said: “I’ve put voodoo curses on white men in Indonesia before, and they all died.”

Deep-Fried American Flags Art Tossed From Tennessee Museum
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A museum director in this military town removed an art exhibit featuring several deep-fried American flags.
Ohhh, major pretentious!
Art student William Gentry said his piece, "The Fat Is in the Fire," was a commentary on obesity in America. "I deep-fried the flag because I'm
... a dipshit?
concerned about America and about America's health," Gentry said.
"I got this memo from somebody, telling me I'm in charge of the nation's health, so the first thing I did was get out the old Presto Fry Baby..."
Customs House Museum executive director Ned Crouch took down the artwork Wednesday less than 18 hours after it went up in this community next to the Fort Campbell. "It's about what the community values," Crouch said.
"We hain't real big on deep-fried flags around these here parts. We hain't real big on pretentious, neither. Want a chaw of this here terbacky?"
"I'm representing 99 percent of our membership — educators, doctors, lawyers, military families."
"But not art students. I checked the list twice."
He also said the timing of the piece could cause
... people to roll their eyes?
"incendiary reactions."
People say "wotta dipshit" when they have "incendiary reactions," do they?
No one got beheaded, did they?
"Never in the history of the country has the flag been more hated or more loved," Crouch said.
Oh, shuddup. Who the hell told you that?
The exhibit featured three U.S. flags imprinted with such phrases as "Poor people are obese because they eat poorly" and dozens of smaller flags fried in peanut oil, egg batter, flour and black pepper.
Okay. I'll admit, they've never done that before that I know of. Maybe the UN should give me large dollars to investigate global stoopid? I'm willing to give Kofi a commission.

#1  "Poor people are obese because they eat poorly"

A statement the "artist" no doubt finds horribly offensive.

Whudda pity it happens to be true. Yes, it does cost a bit more to eat healthy. But not a whole lot more, and, frankly, dropping things like soda and sweets from your diet will save you money. The most expensive things I buy are the specifically diet foods; fresh fruits and vegetables are more expensive than junk food, but their food value is extremely high.

#2  "Poor people are obese because they eat poorly" . It's their own decision. It costs more to eat the fat-filled, pre-packaged, pre-cooked stuff than it does to buy fresh or frozen stuff and prepare it yourself. If poor people are fat it's because of genetics or lazyness.

#3  Been to Clarkesville once - car problem. Nice folks. Didn't impress me as the flag frying type - USA or CSA. Where'd they find this Gentry character.

#6  That's crap want to know why people are fat because they will not exercise. I am fat and my doctor told me he didn't care what I ate as long as I walked and exercise everyday to burn the calories that I consumed.

#7  And that is djohn66's revelation.
No kidding, am not being flippant, it IS the truth.

BTW, consuming fats does not make you fat (I "drink" olive oil by quarts), it's the excess of carbs and sugars.
