DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A police chief says three people were shot and wounded Friday during an apparent fight between two groups at a North Carolina mall crowded with shoppers on the day after Thanksgiving.
Authorities said in the late afternoon that one person was detained and there was no further threat to the public.
Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews told reporters the shooting happened around 3:20 p.m. inside The Streets at Southpoint mall during a fight between two groups who knew each other.
She said one of the victims was a 10-year-old child hit when a bullet ricocheted. She said the child’s wounds did not appear life-threatening.
Police didn’t immediately release further information on the conditions of the other two who were shot.

[BREITBART] The string of high-end store robberies continued in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Wednesday with a last-minute smash-and-grab operation at Apple and Nordstrom stores while shopping continued for the holidays.
"Thieves rushed into a Southern California Nordstrom store the night before Thanksgiving and ran off with pricey goods in the latest in a string of organized retail thefts," the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.
The AP report noted that five people, one of whom was wearing an orange wig, entered the Nordstrom store located in the Westfield Topanga Mall in the Canoga Park area of Los Angeles.
The group entered the open store shortly before 7:00 p.m. local time. Law enforcement said the group took "seven to eight high-end purses before fleeing in a grey Ford Mustang."
"It’s unfortunate because these people that are here are just trying to shop for the holidays [and] for their families," said LAPD Deputy Chief Alen Hamilton, according to KCAL. "We’ve deployed extra officers here. It just so happened that this was one part of the mall where they were able to get in and get out, even with our officers being deployed here."
The LAPD reportedly started a special task force composed of veteran robbery-homicide detectives, who were on patrol at the mall; however, the suspects had picked a moment when law enforcement was not around.
KCAL reported that a security guard at the store confronted the thieves but was attacked and sprayed in the face with chemical spray. While law enforcement is still trying to determine what type of chemical was sprayed on the security guard, he was treated at the scene and later transported to a local hospital.

[NYPOST] A Florida man has been charged with 1,200 counts of sexual assault and incest involving a minor.Robert Cota, 31, of Pensacola, was charged with 600 counts of sexual assault on a victim between the ages of 12 and 18 and 600 counts of incest that allegedly took place over the last six years.
Cota was reported to police by a local pastor, who told deputies that Cota had approached him last Sunday saying he "had issues with one of the beliefs" outlined in the church guideline book. He specifically pointed to the word "incest," according to arresting documents obtained by WEAR-TV.
After further conversation, the pastor told Cota that he needed to report himself to authorities. The pastor later provided Cota’s information to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the arrest report, the victim told authorities that she had sexual encounters with Cota since she was 7 years old. The girl said Cota told her that the sexual acts were how to show affection.
In September 2020, the victim’s mother confronted Cota about having a sexual relationship with the girl, according to the arrest report. In response, Cota pointed a gun at the girl and was arrested for aggravated assault and domestic violence while authorities began investigating the sexual assault and incest allegations.
Both Cota and the victim reportedly told the mother of the sexual relationship before taking back their statements after the incident, police said.
When deputies arrived to arrest Cota for sexual assault and incest, he reportedly told them he was not surprised about the accusations.
He was booked at the Escambia County Jail, where his bond has been set at $3,000,000.

[Just The News] The dangers of hunting are not what many may think, said Curt Sinclair, hunting safety instructor for Illinois 4-H.
"It’s not the discharge of a firearm in a dangerous way," Sinclair said. "The No. 1 accident that happens in hunting in Illinois is falls. Falls are the primary way that people get hurt and seriously hurt."
Fourteen hunters died during hunting season in Illinois last year. Between 2015 and 2019, 90% of the hunting accidents were from falls, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said. Many of the falls involve homemade tree stands.
"The homemade deer stands are one of the primary problems," Sinclair said.
Sinclair recommends buying a manufactured tree stand, rather than building one.
"It’s not going to be safe to build it in the first place: Hanging on with one hand and trying to build something with your free hand is very risky. And then to leave something like that up there, even if it’s safe when you build it, it deteriorates pretty quickly. Next year it won’t be safe," he said.
In association with The University of Illinois Extension, Sinclair has produced three short YouTube videos — one video for each of the three different types of tree stands — that show how to install deer stands safely.
Once hunters have a tree stand, they need a good harness, Sinclair said. Every tree stand comes with a free harness, but some of them can be clumsy to use, he warned.

If you grew up in hunting country where tree stands are used, you heard the stories. One hunter sabotaged another guy's tree stand. The guy who climbed into his tree stand, got comfortable and quietly died of a heart attack. The guy who was not too drunk to climb the tree, but definitely too drunk to avoid falling out of it. There are plenty more and I'm sure every reader here from hunting country has a couple.

Officers were first alerted to firearm fiasco after receiving an "accidental gunshot wound" call from the residence, according to the police report. Upon arriving at the scene, a sheriff’s deputy encountered EMS Rivers, who was holding the unloaded handgun and a spent bullet casing in her hands.
She told the officer that Daman had blasted herself in the nether regions.
Police then conducted interviews with Daman’s three housemates, two of whom were present during the accident, to try and shed light on the alleged boudoir backfire.
Jordan Allen, the reported owner of the firearm, told officers that he was "in the kitchen walking back to the bedroom when he heard the gun go off." Upon reaching the bedroom, Allen discovered Daman with "a small amount of blood" on her leg, at which point she reportedly informed him "that she shot herself accidentally" and apologized.
Meanwhile, ...back at the comedy club, Boogie ducked another tomato... a second witness named Cody Starnes told deputies that his mother Addie Ruth Johnson came into his bedroom and reported that "Daman had been shot."
