Has Qatar groomed a terrorist to be a Somali district's president?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Abu Mansoor Mukhtar Robow, a deputy leader and former front man of the Somali bad boy group al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
, became the first official candidate for the presidential elections in Somalia's Baidoa, that are set to take place Nov. 17.

Al-Shabaab, a political Islamist group in Somalia with ideological ties to al-Qaeda, is classified internationally as a terrorist group by countries including the United States.

The group carried out multiple suicide kabooms that targeted diplomatic headquarters of foreign countries and left dozens of civilians dead.

In 2012, the US administration allocated $5 million to any informant who discloses information that could help lead to Robow’s arrest. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
in July 2017, the State Department issued a decision to cancel the reward after they confirmed that he was secretly negotiating with the Somali government.

According to local Somali news reports, the committee overseeing the presidential elections confirmed that Robow was the first candidate to announce he was running for a presidential campaign in southwestern Somalia.

In august 2017, the Somali army formally declared Robow had left al-Shabaab and had joined the ranks of the government.

A picture of Robow with the British Ambassador to Somalia David Concar circulated on social media that showed the ambassador with a suspicious look on his face as he talked to the former terrorist.

Head of international think tank calls for Haftar’s dismissal
[Libya Observer] The President of Quilliam Foundation, a London-based think tank, has urged Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Aqailah Saleh to immediately sack warlord Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
from his "General Commander" position and to replace him with Abdul-Razaq Nadouri, Chief of Staff of HoR forces.

In a string of tweets, Noman Ben Othman called for "the salvation of Cyrene from the adventures of Wadi Doum", an apparent reference to the battle which Libyan forces staged against Chadian forces in Wadi Doum in 1987. Around 1269 Libyan soldiers were killed and 438 others taken as war prisoners including Khalifa Haftar who commanded the battle.

Ben Othman described Haftar’s rejection to recognize Aqailah Saleh as "the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army" as "rebellion."

In a video posted by his own TV channel Libya Alhadat, Khalifa Haftar told Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Presidential Council Chairman Fayez Sarraj, presidents of Tunisia and Egypt, and representatives of Russia, La Belle France and EU to the Palermo Conference that the post of "Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army" - Aqailah Saleh - should only be granted to an elected president of the country and that it should currently be passed to the "the General Commander" - Haftar - until elections are held.

"Rajma camp ‐ Haftar’s HQ ‐ is acting now without legitimacy or supervision from control authorities, thus, from now on, Haftar has become an outlaw rebel." Ben Othman tweeted.

"After the rebellion against all legitimate and political authorities and all civil institutions in the country, the stances of Egypt and the UAE will become very embarrassing if they continue to support the rebel, which could slide the country into a civil war and thus chaos in which terrorism prevails." He said.

CIA says Saudi crown prince ordered Khashoggi's murder
[Aljazeera] The CIA has concluded that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, US media reported on Friday, a finding that contradicts Saudi government assertions that he was not involved.

According to the Washington Post, who first reported the CIA conclusion, US officials expressed high confidence in the CIA assessment, which is the most definitive to date linking bin Salman to the killing and complicates President Donald Trump's efforts to preserve ties with one of the closest US allies in the region.

Both the Washington Post and the Associated Press cited unnamed officials familiar with the CIA conclusion.

The accuracy of the reports could not be immediately verified.

The White House declined to comment on the Post report, saying it was an intelligence matter. The State Department and the CIA also declined to comment.

Khashoggi, a contributing columnist for the Washington Post, was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 when he went there to pick up documents he needed for his planned marriage.

A critic of the Saudi government, Khashoggi had resisted pressure from Riyadh for him to return home.

#7  So the NYT also says so, my confidence meter is pegged left. Bottom line is why? Why would bin Salman have ordered it (if he did?) Why would CIA say so? The latter is easy - to discredit Trump Admin's ability to support bin Salman. But why would they do that (besides Deep State hatred of all things Trump?) Is there something worse about bin Salman than I know of? - he seems no worse than those before or the alternatives (and better than most.

Houthis indulge in widespread cultural vandalism of Yemen’s most historic sites
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] It seems that Houthis in Yemen

are following in the footsteps of ISIS when it comes to destroying historical artifacts and important archaeological sites.

Recently, a Yemeni human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
organization revealed a collection of testimonies from archeologists who said the Houthis were responsible for the damage and destruction caused to multiple culturally significant sites.

Houthis themselves have also grabbed credit for deliberately targeting Yemen’s historical sites and often converting them into military barracks.

Misusing archaeological sites
According to Mwatna, a human rights organization, the most damage inflicted on the archaeological sites in Yemen have been at the hands of Houthis who have turned these areas into military quarters for their weapons.

The organization called on international communities to help preserve Yemen’s historical and cultural sites.

In what can only be considered as cultural vandalism, the organization reported that archaeological sites in nine governorates including Sanaa, Aden and Marib were destroyed.

Along with significant monuments, old cities, mosques, tombs, and museums were also destroyed.

Pause in Saudi raids on Hudaydah aimed at buying time: Houthi

"In every round of aggression against Yemen, the escalation begins and then dies down, mostly without declaring a truce," Houthi front man Mohammed Abdulsalam wrote in a tweet on Thursday night.

"Given the recent developments in the battle on the ground, the aggressive coalition is trying to pretend that it has halted its attacks [on Hudaydah] in response to global pressure or to allow the dispatch of humanitarian aid, but that’s a big lie," he said.

Yemen warring parties close to prisoner swap deal, vow to attend Sweden peace talks: UN

The United Nations

Griffiths said the UN intends to convene the Sweden talks very soon given the two sides’ "renewed commitment" to work on a political solution to end the war waged by the Saudi-led coalition in 2015 in a bid to push back the Houthi

"With this in mind, I intend to reconvene the parties shortly and to do so in Sweden. I believe we are close to resolving issues to make this happen," Griffiths said.

"I have received firm assurances from the leadership of the Yemeni parties... that they are committed to attending these consultations. I believe they are genuine."

Griffiths plans to travel to the Yemeni capital of Sana’a next week to finalize arrangements and offered to travel with the Houthi delegation to Sweden after the Saudi-led coalition prevented the Ansarullah delegation from attending the peace talks.

According to the UN envoy, the Saudi-led coalition invading Yemen has agreed to "logistical arrangements" to pave the way for talks including medical evacuations out of Sana’a.

Griffiths announced he was close to reaching a deal on an exchange of prisoners and detainees, in a further confidence-building measure ahead of planned talks.

CIA concludes Saudi crown prince ordered Khashoggi assassination: Washington Post

In a report published on Friday, The Washington Post, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, said that the American spy agency had reached the conclusion that the Saudi de facto ruler had ordered the liquidation, contradicting Riyadh’s claims that he was not involved in the killing.

According to the American daily newspaper, to which Khashoggi was a contributing columnist, in conducting its assessment, the CIA examined multiple sources of intelligence, including a phone call that the prince’s brother Khalid bin Salman, the Saudi ambassador to the US, had with the ill-fated journo, telling him to go to the Saudi diplomatic mission and giving him assurances that it would be safe to do so.

But shortly after the report was published, the Saudi ambassador to the US denied in a tweet he had spoken to the slain journalist by phone or had suggested he go to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Syrian stabber shot by Dutch police was seeking Jewish and Christian victims
[IsraelTimes] A Syrian asylum seeker shot by coppers in The Hague after stabbing three people was looking for Jewish or Christian victims, prosecutors said.

On Wednesday, prosecutors said the officers lawfully and justifiably discharged their weapons in the May 5 shooting of the man who has been identified in the Dutch media as Malek F., the De Telegraaf daily reported.

Detectives found that Malek F., 31, who was initially declared insane but then charged with a terrorist assault, was on the lookout for "Christian and Jewish kuffars," the Arabic word for non-believer in Allah. He had said that kuffars were akin to "animals or retarded people," the prosecution’s report quoted him as saying.

He was shot while stabbing people in the Schilderswijk, one of the most heavily Moslem neighborhoods in the Netherlands. One of his victims, whom he seriously injured, was Moslem.

Malek F. was moderately injured in the incident and faces three counts of attempted murder.

Two days earlier, Malek F. told detectives, he had brought a knife to a church in The Hague but left after no one opened the door when he knocked.

German gov’t may deport Syrian refugees that commit crimes
[ALMASDARNEWS] The German government is currently looking at whether or not they can deport Syrian refugees that have committed crimes inside their country, the Daily Mail reported on Friday.

According to the Daily Mail report, the German government may choose to deport the refugees back to war-torn Syria if they are legally able to.

Since the restriction on expelling refugees back to Syria ends this year, the German government could choose to deport Syrian refugees that are found guilty of domestic crimes.

Germany is currently assessing the situation on the ground in Syria and determining whether or not this is a possibility.

Three absconders surrender in Naqeeb murder case
[DAWN] An antiterrorism court on Thursday granted interim pre-arrest bail to three former coppers, who were absconding in a case pertaining to killing of an aspiring Wazoo model Naqeebullah Mehsud and three others in an alleged ’staged’ encounter in January.

The suspects ‐ former assistant sub-inspectors (SI) Mohammad Anar and Khair Mohammad and former head constable (HC) Faisal Mehmood ‐ surrendered before the trial court after obtaining protective bail from the Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad circuit bench.

Defence counsel Abid Zaman argued that his clients wanted to join the trial, but the court had issued non-bailable warrants for their arrest. Therefore, they apprehended their arrest in the case and pleaded to admit their interim bail.

Allowing the request, the ATC-III, which is hearing the matter in the judicial complex inside the central prison, granted them interim bail against a surety bond of Rs200,000 each and issued a notice to the prosecutor for Nov 19.

Then SSP Malir Rao Anwar and then DSP Qamar Ahmed Sheikh along with their around 10 detained and 14 absconding subordinates have been booked in the cases of allegedly killing four men in a fake shoot-out in Shah Latif Town on Jan 13 and foisting fake recoveries of illicit arms and explosives on the victims.

Aasia released to please the West, says Fazl
[DAWN] It is not the legality of arrest or release of Aasia Bibi that is bothering the nation, but the fact that she has been released under a deal with the West, says Maulana Fazlur Rehman, president of the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal (MMA).

“I have been arguing since long that Imran Khan is a Jew representative and has been anointed by the West to play its proxy. Now he has been brought to power only to play games of his masters and hurt the Ummah. The government is guilty of conspiring to alter the blasphemy law, setting blasphemers free and playing to Western tunes”
Addressing the “million march,” which was very thinly attended when compared to the ‘figure’ mentioned in its title, he said the way the West had been celebrating the release of Aasia Bibi “showed the reality of the issue”.

“If Aasia Bibi’s release is only a legal decision, why is there flood of personal praises directed at the CJP and Imran Khan? It only proves that the decision was taken under a deal, which is now being praised in the West. What kind of legal decision is this which is being celebrated by the West and has caused anxiety in the Ummah?,”the Maulana thundered.

The call for the march was given by the All (religious) Parties Tahafuz-i-Namoos-i-Risalat.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F head alleged that an EU delegation that visited Pakistan in run-up to the decision, offered the country membership of international financial clubs and linked the offer to the Aasia Bibi’s release.

“Misquoting the Islamic history of Misaq-i-Madina, the PTI parliamentarians are trying to justify the diplomatic recognition of Isreal as well,” Maulana told the small but emotionally charged gathering on The Mall.

“I have been arguing since long that Imran Khan is a Jew representative and has been anointed by the West to play its proxy. Now he has been brought to power only to play games of his masters and hurt the Ummah. The government is guilty of conspiring to alter the blasphemy law, setting blasphemers free and playing to Western tunes,”. he said, adding that the movement would continue till the PTI mended its ways.

SC censures intelligence agency for failing to provide financial details of Faizabad sit-in leaders
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Friday criticised the country's premier intelligence agency for failing to provide the financial details of leaders of the Faizabad sit-in, rejecting a report submitted by the agency in this regard.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam had resumed hearing a suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
case regarding the 20-day sit-in held at the Faizabad interchange in Islamabad/Rawalpindi by the Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain's (TLP) in November 2017. Justice Qazi Faez Isa was the other member of the bench.

"Does the ISI [Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
] function under the law?" Justice Isa asked during the hearing, observing that the agency had said in a report it was not its job to obtain certain details of the Faizabad sit-in leaders' finances.

He said the protest sit-in had caused losses of billions and that the court wanted to know whether the persons "who can bring thousands of people" to the sit-in pay taxes.

"Can the ISI not even find out about the bank account of a person?" the judge wondered. He said the agency had said in response to the court's query that it could not furnish income tax details of the protest leaders and that it could be provided by the Federal Board of Revenue.

Justice Isa said if these things did not fall in the purview of the agency "then when [in the future] ISI interferes in other matters, we will ask: 'is this ISI's job?'."

The bench then wondered if it should summon the director general of the ISI or the defence secretary for an explanation.

Brigadier Falak Naz, the director of Ministry of Defence's law branch, said the agency could be asked to obtain the requisite details if the court so orders. "ISI looks after the national security [of the country]," he added.

"Is the sit-in not a matter of national security?" Justice Isa retorted, observing that the ISI was subservient to the country's law and Constitution.

The bench subsequently rejected the third report on the sit-in submitted by the ISI, and two other reports by the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) and the Pakistain Electronic Media Regularity Authority (Pemra).

The intelligence agency, ECP and Pemra were directed to submit new reports as the hearing was adjourned until next Thursday.

The court also directed the attorney general and information secretary to appear at the next hearing.

In November 2017, TLP workers demanding the resignation of then law minister Zahid Hamid had staged a weeks-long sit-in at the Faizabad interchange that had virtually paralysed the federal capital and led to several people losing their lives.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Netanyahu becomes Israel military affairs minister after Lieberman’s resignation
[PRESSTV] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has become his own minister of military affairs, failing to fill the position with anyone else after Avigdor Lieberman’s resignation, according to a Likud Party front man.
The proper terminology is to say he took over defense portfolio, but not bad for a non-native English speaker working to propagandise the situation.
The decision was announced on Friday after Netanyahu's meeting with a key far-right coalition partner, Jewish Home Party leader Naftali Bennett, failed to determine Israel's next military affairs minister.

Bennett, who is currently Israel's Education Minister, had sought to replace Lieberman. The Education Minister had called for Israel to "start winning again", expressing frustration at Netanyahu's compliance with an Egypt-brokered ceasefire with the Gazoo Strip.

Israel was quick to accept a truce after a botched Israeli operation in Gazoo was met with a strong reaction from the Paleostinian resistance in Gazoo, killing an Israeli special operations officer and firing a record number of nearly 500 rockets into Israel in a single day.

Bibi has expert power in this, and we now have new partners we had not before. Testing Our Alliance with other Arab Nations using Gaza is a common thing. Bibi is the one of the whole lot that was chosen for this time. He will stay.

In first, US endorses Israeli occupation of Golan, votes against 9 anti-Israel resolutions
[PRESSTV] The US has, for the first time, endorsed the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights by voting against an annual UN resolution that condemned the occupation and was unanimously approved along with several other resolutions against Tel Aviv.

The resolution titled "The occupied Syrian Golan," adopted on Friday with 151 votes in favor, two against (Israel and the US), and 14 abstentions, condemns Israel for "repressive measures" against Syrian citizens in the Golan Heights.

The resolution, which was adopted during the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee), expresses deep concern that the Syrian Golan, occupied since 1967, has been under continued Israeli military occupation.

The non-binding annual resolution takes issue with the "illegality of the decision" taken by Israel "to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan," which is illegal under international law.
The Times of Israel adds:
The non-binding resolution, which is voted on by a UN General Assembly committee each year, takes issue with the "illegality of the decision" taken by Israel "to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan," which it says is illegal under international law.

Despite American support, world body overwhelmingly condemns Israel, and no one else, in 9 separate resolutions.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S. Envoy Warns: Iran May Create Islamic State-Like Terror Group
[Breitbart] Iran may help give birth to a "maligned" Shiite terrorist group that mirrors the Sunni Islamic State’s (ISIS/ISIL) savagery, the U.S. State Department’s special envoy to Syria cautioned on Thursday.

While speaking at the Sixth Annual Defense One Summit, U.S. envoy James Jeffrey argued that, in Iraq and Syria, where U.S.-led coalition and Tehran-allied fighters have together taken on ISIS, "It requires stability ops to break Iran’s meddling influence."

Jeffrey cautioned that Iran "will create a new Daesh if we don’t get at the underlying problem," using an Arabic acronym for ISIS. Although American troops and Iran-backed militias fought against ISIS, Shiite fighters have vocally opposed America’s presence in Iraq.

"Direct military action would not be enough to defeat Iran and its expanding network of armed allies, many of which were comprised of Shiite Muslim militias. Like the Pentagon and its own local partners, these fighters have fought jihadi groups like ISIS in Iraq and Syria, but they oppose U.S. influence there," Newsweek notes.

To counter pressure from the West, Iran "will create a new Daesh if we don’t get at the underlying problem," referring to an Arabic acronym for ISIS, the American envoy predicted.

In coordination with Russia, Iranian terrorist proxies Hezbollah, the IRGC, and other Tehra-hired Shiite fighters from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and other countries are already fighting on behalf of dictator Bashar al-Assad, ultimately allowing the Syrian regime to control more territory in Syrian than any other warring party.

UN passes resolution condemning Iran’s human rights record
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution on Thursday, condemning Iran’s human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
record, with 83 votes against 30 while 68 countries abstained.

The resolution is due to be voted next December at the UN General Assembly.

The resolution relied on the reports on the human rights situation in Iran presented by both the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, Javid Rehman, and Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General."

"The reports of the UN Secretary-General and his Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran indicate that the human rights situation in Iran has worsened since last year and the systematic repression of demonstrators, journalists and users of social networks has increased," it said.
