Wali Mohammad Ibrimiki, wanted narco trafficker and bomb cell mastermind, was shot dead by ISAF forces with support from Afghan police as he resisted arrest in Stin village, Balkh province on Wednesday.
ISAF troops and Afghan security forces, enroute to checking on a local police station attacked the night before, identified Ibrimiki in the street and immediately improvised a plan for his arrest. During the course of the attempted arrest, Ibrimiki tried to reach the cover of his armed compound by using an innocent bystander as a human shield.
ISAF personnel acted decisively and within rules of engagement to protect the life of the civilian and to eliminate the imminent threat posed by Ibrimiki and his armed compound.
Troops and police have a moral duty to take decisive action on the spot against known enemies of the people, thats what happened here, said Maj. Luke Knittig, the ISAF Spokesman.

A man reported to be a senior member of al-Qaeda who escaped from a U.S. prison last year has been arrested in southeastern Afghanistan by U.S. and Afghan forces, an Afghan provincial police chief said on Monday. U.S. and Afghan forces arrested six people on Thursday in the city of Khost, said Mohammad Ayub, the provincial police chief. He said the four Afghans, an Arab and a Pakistani are being held by U.S. forces.
In a report by Pakistan's daily The News, one of those arrested was Abu Nasir al-Qahtani. He is one of four Arab al-Qaeda members to have escaped from a U.S. prison in July 2005 in Bagram, about 60 kilometres northwest of Kabul. "I'm not sure if this Arab is the one of the four Arabs who escaped from Bagram last year, but what I can tell you is that he is an important al-Qaeda member," Ayub said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press. U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick declined to identify the arrested al-Qaeda operative.
Last week, coalition forces said a "known al-Qaeda terrorist" and five other extremists had been arrested on Nov. 6 near Khost. Officials said the detainee has "known ties to al-Qaeda leadership," and was detained with Saudi and Pakistani nationals.

(KUNA) -- The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Sunday that the allied troops had killed 10 suspected terrorists in one of Afghanistan's remote provinces in an air strike on Saturday. The militants, the NATO said, were killed in the mountainous Kunar province, which is bordering Pakistan's troubled Bajaur Agency. Kunar province is considered the stronghold of anti-US former warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and a hotbed of al-Qaeda members.
NATO officer Colonel Shul in Kunar told journalists on Sunday that the allied forces had launched the attack on the basis of intelligence reports the military had received regarding the presence of the "terrorists" in a compound. He said they were holding meeting at a compound in Watapur district. The dead were members of al-Qaeda network and were operating under the command of Arab fighter Abu Ikhlas, who is said to be heading the network in Kunar and Nuristan provinces. Although, the officer did not say anything about commander Abu Ikhlas, he informed 10 of his men had been killed in the strike.
NATO's claim was also confirmed by Afghan officials. Governor of the province Didar Shalizai said 10 persons were killed in the attack. But the governor said the dead were Taliban fighters. The anti-government Taliban have also presence in Kunar and Nuristan provinces but members of al-Qaeda and men loyal to Gulbudding Hekmary are believed to be enjoying a sway in majority areas of the two provinces.

(SomaliNet) The authorities of semi-autonomous region of Puntland in northeast Somalia said on Sunday that their troops have repelled an attack launched by Islamic Courts and recaptured positions. Adde Muse Hersi, the president of Puntland state accompanied by large number of troops reached Galkaayo city to prevent the advancing Islamic Courts.
Abdirahman Bangax, Puntland minister of information speaking with the reporters accused the Islamists of attacking places stationed by their troops. "Our forces drove Islamic militants back to their barracks and retook positions," he said.
Meanwhile, there have been preparations of demonstrations in Garowe, Bosaso and Galkaayo of Puntland relating to the strategy of the defending Puntland regions. The most outspoken matter in Puntland regions is the war tension looming in Mudug region, central Somalia between Puntland and Islamic Courts.

There are 1400 US "advisers" in Djibouti, on the western border of Somaliland. They've been training troops in Somaliland and Puntland for the last three years. I don't think the Islamic Courts are going to have the easy time against Puntland they had against the warlords in Mogadischu. I really, really long to see an arclight strike on Mogadischu - about 12 BUFFS in four three-ship cells. It'll take the IC another 20 years just to dig out.

Yes, the US has been quietly supporting Somaliland, Puntland, and Ethiopia for the past few years. And Ethiopia has several thousand "advisors" embedded in both the Puntland and Somaliland armies. Also, Ethiopia has been getting shipments of spare parts for ex-Soviet hardware from a variety of Eastern European countries, often for free. That is one of the reasons I have supported the US providing much more surplus US hardware to the East Europeans : they can then ship ex-Soviet spares stores to countries we need to support, with deniability.
Plus, I would not discount the Israeli aid that has been going into Ethiopia since the overthrow of the Marxist junta several years ago.
Joint security forces managed last weekend to arrest 6 terrorists, among whom a student, belonging to a terrorist supporting group in the suburb of Bejaia. The terrorist group was living normally in Al Maghra Village, 10 Km far from Bejaia, sources told El Khabar.
Other terrorists are supposed to have fled from the security forces and joined the fiefdom in the mountain. Thats why the joint security forces have intensified their combing in the area, according to the area sources. Reliable security sources confirmed that the main fiefdom of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) in Kessila Mountains are still under siege and hundreds of military and resistance elements have closed all exits to isolate the terrorist supporting group.
In other news, a terrorist group destroyed a garbage truck of Chekfa commune services of the Wilaya of Jijel. Reliable sources said the terrorists stole the truck at 9.30 am near the garbage pile of the commune when on duty. The terrorists compelled the driver to leave the truck, took it to El Adjarda, tens of meters far from the garbage pile, and threw it from an altitude of 100 meters. The truck was so entirely destroyed and the terrorists fled towards the forests of the area.

Islamic extremists have infiltrated at least four British universities to radicalise Muslim students, says a troubleshooting imam who sends teams to campuses to tackle indoctrination, The Sunday Times reported. Sheikh Musa Admani believes fundamentalists are bypassing campus bans on groups with radical links by presenting themselves as ordinary Muslims to fellow students or forming societies with alternative names. Some students, says Admani, have been so deeply indoctrinated that they are close to travelling to Afghanistan and Iraq to engage in jihad, the report said.
Admani, a Muslim chaplain at London Metropolitan University, runs a charity that helps to rehabilitate young men who have fallen prey to extremism. He is also an adviser on Muslim affairs to Bill Rammell, the higher education minister. We are dealing with people filled with hatred, said Admani. Its hatred for the white man and the West in particular, because they have read the works of Qutb and Maududi (Islamist ideologues followed by Al Qaeda) who set Muslims apart from everyone else.
Admanis charity, the Luqman Institute of Education and Development, has been tackling the effects of this indoctrination by sending volunteers to campuses to challenge the warped view of Islam spread by extremists. The charity has received reports from students about fundamentalists operating in at least four UK institutions: Brunel University, west London, Bedfordshire University, Luton, Sheffield Hallam University and Manchester Metropolitan University. Up to 10 students at Brunel are being deradicalised by a caseworker from the institute, the newspaper said.
Jawad Syed, who nearly succumbed to extremism himself when he was a Brunel student, said: Some of the students are watching jihadi videos and might be listening to different sheikhs encouraging jihad.
Earlier this year the Islamic society at Sheffield Hallam University hosted a lecture by Sheikh Khalid Yasin, an American preacher who favours the death penalty for homosexuals. Shakeel Begg, another radical cleric, recently urged students at Kingston University, southwest London, to wage jihad in Palestine. British-born Asif Hanif, who killed three people in a suicide attack on a bar in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 2003, had attended Kingston.
Admani said some extremists win their peers trust in university prayer rooms before inviting them to off-campus lectures. In other cases, groups banned by the National Union of Students are thought to be operating under alternative names. Last month students at Staffordshire University were invited to attend a discussion entitled The true word of God: the Quran or the Bible. The event was addressed by a former member of Al-Muhajiroun, a proscribed organisation.
A further twist on extremism and campus life emerged in court last week when it was revealed that Dhiren Barot, the most senior Al-Qaeda plotter to be captured in Britain, had used a forged pass to carry out research at Brunel.

ALLEGED French terrorist Willie Brigitte, suspected of planning a jihadist bomb attack in Sydney, will face a Paris court in February on charges of associating with terrorist organisations.
In what promises to be a sensational three-day trial, which Australian authorities are hoping will cast light on the web of alleged terrorist rings in Australia, Mr Brigitte will face an open court in Paris. His lawyer, Jean-Claude Durimel, told The Australian that Mr Brigitte, who has been held in a Paris jail for three years since Australian authorities delivered him into French hands, will appear before a tribunal on February 7, 8 and 9.
Mr Durimel said his client would deny the charges, claiming the dossier prepared by leading French investigating magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguiere was hopelessly inadequate. "There is no proof," Mr Durimel said from Paris. "It's an empty dossier."
Mr Brigitte will appear before three judges, with no jury. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years' jail. The trial will be the culmination of an extraordinary joint investigation by Australian and French secret services, led by the once revolver-packing judge Mr Bruguiere, known as "Le Cowboy" and responsible for arresting Carlos the Jackal.
Mr Brigitte's wife, Melanie Brown, a former Australian soldier, is believed to be a friend of Rabiyah Hutchison, a fellow convert to radical Islam.
Ms Hutchison was once married to the head of Jemaah Islamiah's terror cell in Australia, Abdul Rahim Ayub. Her two sons by that marriage, Mohammed and Abdullah, were recently arrested in Yemen on suspicion of being part of an al-Qa'ida plot to smuggle arms to Somalia.
Ms Brown caused a media sensation when, soon after her husband was thrown into prison in France, she visited him wearing Islamic dress. Mr Durimel said Ms Brown had not seen Mr Brigitte since then.
She revealed two years ago that her marriage was over and has been busy rebuilding her life in Sydney, studying full-time at the University of Sydney and learning Indonesian.
She is still living in the Lakemba area, in Sydney's southwest, and has kept a tight network of female Muslim friends.
Mr Brigitte was expelled from Australia on visa irregularities and delivered into Mr Bruguiere's authority. Australia is believed to have moved to arrest him after a tip-off from the French.
The charges against Mr Brigitte are understood to be based on allegations he trained in Pakistan with a group linked to al-Qa'ida, Lashkar-e-Toiba, in 2001, and was preparing to go war in Afghanistan. Mr Durimel has denied his client fought in Afghanistan, but has been vague on whether he was in Pakistan, saying "he travelled a lot".
Mr Brigitte grew up in France's Caribbean colonies. He has been linked to the same alleged plot as one of his associates in Sydney, Australian-born architect Faheem Lodhi, accused of planning to blow up the Sydney electricity grid and several defence sites.
Federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock declined yesterday to say whether Australian officials would give evidence at the trial, attend as observers, or take action against Mr Brigitte after the French case is complete.

Hizbul Mujahideen on Sunday denied Indian military allegations that it had financed a weekend grenade attack on a mosque in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) that left five people dead and 50 injured. The Indian army claimed that the Islamist militant group had paid $20 dollars to labourer Ghulam Nabi Mir, 22, to hurl the grenade at leading south Kashmir cleric Abdul Rashid Dawoodi during Friday prayers.Mir was arrested after villagers identified him as a suspect. But the groups spokesman, Ehsan Illahi, issued a statement to local media, saying: Hizbul has never allowed lobbing of grenades on Indian troops in markets, streets or densely populated areas, so that civilians may not be harmed. Hizbul condemns the incident and is contemplating ways to punish the culprits.

Meanwhile, lawyers from the Kashmir Bar Association have called for a probe into the attack.The attack has to be looked into seriously and needs a probe by an independent agency, it said in a statement.

Law-enforcement agencies have released Maulana Abdul Jabbar, chief of the banned Khudamul Furqan, after almost three years in detention. Jabbar was arrested with his close aides on charges of attacking President Musharraf on December 14, 2003 in Rawalpindi. Jabbar was released recently after a long detention, sources told Daily Times here on Sunday. The sources said that Khudamul Furqan militants were suspected to be behind terrorist attacks on churches in Pakistan. Maulana Jabbar started his militant activities by joining Harkatul Ansar, headed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil, in the early 1980s and stayed in Afghanistan till the fall of the Taliban government there. He later joined the Jaish-e-Muhammad formed by Maulana Masood Azhar, but after developing differences with Azhar, Jabbar formed the Khudamul Furqan. The sources said Jabbar was an expert in Afghan affairs, heading the Afghan cell of each militant group he was in, and maintained close contacts with Taliban and Al Qaeda leaders.

(KUNA) -- Iraqi police said on Sunday that a force from the Iraqi military was able to rescue police personnel who were responsible for guarding one of the offices of ex-premier Iyad Allawi in Al-A'thmiah area. Police added, the force retreated after gunmen attacked and traded gunfire with policemen and security personnel guarding the building. Police also said, the army force arrived at the scene after ammunitions with the security personnel ran out amid an ongoing exchange of fire, adding that the force were able to rescue the guards and took them to a safe place.
The office of Iraqi National Reconciliation Movement headed by Allawi has warned earlier in the day of a rise in sectarian violence, killings on identity, and assassinations. Earlier, gunmen planted explosives around a building housing the office of Allawi and set them off causing a blast that echoed across the densely-populated Iraqi capital.

(KUNA) -- Sixty-four Iraqis were killed and 138 others were wounded Saturday as violence continued in Baghdad. The most recent of these hostile acts resulted in the killing of five Iraqis and severely wounding another 11 when a bobby-trapped vehicle exploded in the poor neighborhood of al-Fanahra in the area of Bab al-Sheikh downtown Baghdad. Earlier today, a sequential blast of two bombs that took place near the Iraqi Interior Ministry's entrance resulted in killing six civilians and injuring ten others, in addition to damaging civilian and police cars around the blast scene.
An hour later, a suicide bomber blew himself up among a group of volunteers for the Iraqi National Police force. The blast that took place in al-Nussour court near the police command headquarters resulted in the killing of 35 people and the injury of 65. Two bombs rocked the place beforehand, making it one of the most blood-spattered unrests to hit Iraq in a long period of time.
Meanwhile, three Iraqi civilians were killed and 10 others were injured as a result of a roadside bomb that exploded near the highway linking the areas of al-Sayedya and Um al-Ma'alif. Two civic cars were damaged while passing by the explosion site, eyewitnesses said. One civilian was killed and six others were injured due to a bobby-trapped car blast in al-Karrada neighborhood. The blast also resulted in damaging cars and markets in the premises. Another civilian was killed and four others injured; two of which were policemen due to an explosion in al-Mustansiria neighborhood, eastern Baghdad.
Moreover, three civilians were killed and 13 others were wounded as a result of a roadside bomb explosion in the area of al-Radhwania southeastern Baghdad. Not far away and in the area of al-Mahmoudia a bobby-trapped car, parked at a school's lot detonated and resulted in killing five Iraqis and injuring 25 others. Five Iraqis were slaughtered by terrorists, who also injured another, while one person was abducted, in an operation that took place near Dyala provincial building.

Paris demanded Israel stop the raids after French peacekeepers came within days seconds of shooting down Israeli warplanes two weeks ago.
Alliot-Marie said Israeli overflights of Lebanon were continuing in defiance of the UN, but said they were no longer taking a threatening approach to the peacekeepers. She repeated French forces could have launched an "automatic defense reaction" after Israeli planes failed to identify themselves while flying mock bombing runs at peacekeepers.
The commander of the French-led UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon said last week that such a scenario was avoided only because of restraint by French forces.

The French and the rest of the UNIFIL forces or whatever they call them are active or tacit allies of Hizb'Allah, who are rebuilding their position in Lebanon. The French are going to be in the way when the war starts again. When the rockets start firing south, Israel will have to tell the French to leave or be willing to accept collateral damage to French positions. The French are playing a big game of chicken. The Israelis are in this position because of the terrible mistakes of the Olmert government. Israel has some serious issues to ponder.

IDF troops arrested a Fatah fugitive in Bethlehem on Sunday night. During the arrest, Palestinians threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at the soldiers, who stopped their attackers with riot dispersal methods. No one was wounded and no damage was caused during the operation.

"Iranian officials and experts are seeking to do this," the ministry's spokesman, Mohammad Ali Hosseini said, responding to a question as to whether Tehran remains determined to install the centrifuges by the end of the Iranian year in March, 2007. Iran so far has built two cascades of 164 centrifuges for uranium enrichment, which is the process used to make nuclear fuel and, in much higher grades, the core of a weapon.

3000 P1 centrifuges at 3 SWU each gives enough HEU to produce 3 15kg bombs/year or 2 larger, more conservative bombs per year.
The Iranians will be producing 1 per month before we stop arguing among ourselves.
