Shep Smith's CNBC Show - Now With Even Worse Ratings!
[Mediaite] - Shepard Smith, once a star anchor at Fox News, made headlines last year when he abruptly left the network. Now, his highly anticipated — and heavily promoted — new show at CNBC is falling behind repeats of Fox Business show Lou Dobbs Tonight.

Since its launch on September 30, CNBC’s The News with Shepard Smith has presented a sleek hard news program with big name guests like Dr. Anthony Fauci — all while facing a continued decline in viewership.

Bringing in an average of 343,000 total viewers in its first week according to Nielsen, the show dropped to 268,000 in its second week, 254,000 in its third, and is set to continue to decline for week four (ratings for last Friday will be in later today).

The 25-54 age demo ratings have been significantly lower, going from a meager 58,000 average viewers in the show’s debut week to just 48,000 the week later.

Between September 30 and October 22, The News with Shepard Smith was at the bottom of 7 p.m. cable news ratings — behind MSNBC’s Joy Reid, CNN’s Erin Burnett and Fox News’ Martha MacCallum — with an average of 272,000 viewers.

As far as the business network competition goes, Smith’s show placed behind the 7 p.m. repeat of Fox Business show Lou Dobbs Tonight, which pulled in 305,000 viewers (Dobbs initially airs at 5 p.m.)

At Fox News, Smith’s 3 p.m. show Shepard Smith Reporting consistently averaged more than a million viewers, with 25-54 age demo ratings sometimes higher than The News with Shepard Smith’s current total average viewership. During his last month at Fox News — September 2019 — Smith’s show averaged 1.3 million viewers and 195,000 in the demo.
An 80% drop in ratings from the high of his old show to his new show. Well done, Shep 'ol boy!

Texas Governor Orders 1000 Troops To Cities During Election
[MySanAntonio.com] Election Day security update: Maj. Gen. James K. "Red" Brown, chief of staff for the Texas National Guard commander, said the activation of troops would be for "post election" support of local law enforcement and the Texas Department of Public Safety, "as we did previously to deter any civil disturbance at sites in various cities within Texas."

Guard troops ordered to S.A.: The Texas Army National Guard said Monday it had been ordered to dispatch 1,000 troops to five major cities around the state in conjunction with the Nov. 3 election, including San Antonio. The guard in recent weeks had told the San Antonio Express-News that its commander, Maj. Gen. Tracy Norris, had been asked to draft contingency plans in case of trouble at polling places in major cities around the state.

Virtual profanity filter bans the word "Bone" at a paleontology conference
he, he, he, he said bone
[TechSpot] Facepalm: An eminent paleontology society was plagued this week by an over-eager profanity filter during their socially distanced industry conference. Other banned words included "stream," "beaver," "iffy," and "stroke."

The Society of Vertebrate Paleontology gathered for its annual meeting this week. In true 2020 fashion, this conference was held virtually, containing daily presentations and follow-up, written Q&A sessions.

The conference's virtual meeting platform was provided by Convey Services, who include a profanity filter pre-built into their communication systems. It was made clear in an r/askreddit page about the event that this filter was tuned a bit too strong.

Words like "Bone," "sexual," and "Hell" were censored to users, the latter often used in discussions of an important site at Hell Creek. Stephanie Drumheller, a paleontologist from the University of Tennessee, in the subreddit Q&A, explained that most of the censorship was quite amusing, and the attendees managed to find workarounds to continue their discussions. "My personal favorite was Heck Creek for Hell Creek," said Drumheller.

The system was evidently designed for business and industry events rather than science gatherings, and attendees were feeding back unfortunate censorships to Convey Services for correction as the week continued. Attendees made a list on Google Docs of all the banned words they encountered.

Words like 'bone,' 'pubic,' and 'stream' are frankly ridiculous to ban in a field where we regularly find pubic bones in streams," said Brigid Christison, a biology Master's student attending the event.

Other unexpected restrictions were less funny, as discovered by an assistant professor in biology at UC Berkeley, Z. Jack Tseng. "At first, when fellow conference attendees noted on Twitter that 'Hell' and 'bone' were banned, I was very amused by it," Tseng said in an email to Vice. "I became disturbed when I saw that the crowd-sourced list of banned words included 'Wang.' I personally know of several vertebrate paleontologists by that surname."

Tseng later put out a tweet, frustrated that "Wang," the surname of over 90 million Chinese, was banned, while the common Western surname Johnson, equally phallically synonymous, was not.

Even half a year into this new existence of Zoom calls, pre-recorded release events, and online conferences, we can still expect some pretty funny and unfortunate mishaps.

Wave of new COVID-19 cases crashes across U.S. and Europe as winter looms
[YNet] - The United States, Russia, France and many other countries are setting records for coronavirus infections as a tidal wave of cases washes over parts of the Northern Hemisphere, forcing some countries to impose new curbs.
Note: there is no such things as American coronavirus, Russian coronavirus, or EUropean coronavirus - the minor differences between strains do not affect function.

...Nor is it a consequence of more testing
The number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States last week rose 24% while the number of tests performed rose 5.5%, according to a Reuters analysis.

In Europe the picture was unrelentingly grim as a string of countries reported record increases, led by France, which posted more than 50,000 daily cases for the first time on Sunday, while the continent passed the threshold of 250,000 deaths.

...Governments have been desperate to avoid the lockdowns which curbed the disease earlier in the year at the cost of shutting down their entire economies.
You don't like lockdowns, enforce mask wearing: it's sad, but some people (all over the World) are not amendable to reason.

New cases in the last week are up 17% of the active cases, but only 6.5% of the total, while new tests in the same period were up by 5.7%.

Serious/critical cases are up to 16,611, compared to 15,380 a week ago, but less than July 24, when 19,175 were in the ICU.

Rooters new math.

#5  Thirty years ago the UK was gripped by another terrifying health crisis – BSE (Mad Cow Disease). The suggestion that one teaspoon of beef from an infected cow could pass the disease to humans as CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease), a neurodegenerative disease with no cure, caused mass hysteria both in the media and then the general public. We were all doomed.

Both the BSE crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic needed a group of experts. For the BSE crisis, epidemiologists, computer modellers, microbiologists and others were assembled on the committee known as SEAC (the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee). For the COVID-19 pandemic, a similar but larger committee, SAGE, was assembled for the task.

Both committees suggested huge numbers of deaths would occur in the absence of intervention. With COVID-19, the estimate by the computer modelling team at Imperial College London was 500,000 deaths, whereas for BSE/CJD the figure was up to 50,000 deaths. Both sets of predictions led to a media-fuelled frenzy and spurred the sitting Governments into action.

ACTUAL CDC NUMBERS AS OF 10-27-20 @ 8:15am

Since Jan, 14th, 2020 (287 days since of 1st US death) we have had 8,617,022 claimed infections. So out of a US Population of about 342 Million, 334 Million or 97.66% of the US Population has NOT been infected in 287 days.

Since Jan, 14th, 2020 (287 days) we have had 224,601 claimed deaths. So out of a US Population of about 342 Million, 341,775,399 have NOT died.

OR Better stated 99.93% of the Population DID NOT DIE from the C-19.

Today the CDC data shows 63,195 possible new infections for 3 days.

Today the CDC data indicate for 380 New claimed deaths for 3 days.

LAST 3 CDC Full DATA WEEKS REPORTED
09/26/2020 Infected 99,950 Deaths 3,701
10/03/2020 Infected 98,338 Deaths 3,371
10/10/2020 Infected 141,317 Deaths 3,114

So if Infections are UP,and Death counts are DOWN every week since Mid-April 2020. Then it is also clear the C-19 virus has either mutated and no longer as deadly as it was initially predicted. Or, US Agencies, medical Institutions and The Media grossly over estimated the C-19 Viruses spread and mortality and caused a needless Panic.

Because simply put. We are nowhere near the predicted 81% of U.S. population infected, causing 2.2 million deaths widely stated back in late March of 2020.

#12  #11 Groovy. Now use the same method to prove that DUI has nothing to do with car accidents.

#13  Bright Pebbles

My IT Team and I were in London/Hanger Lane area during the middle of the Mad Cow media panic.

We ate Steaks at Adams Rib around the corner from the Bag of nails, Victoria Station and our hotel at least 4 times in 2 weeks.

The local personnel (SAM-UK) though we were daffy.
But the restaurant staff was happy for the business and the meat was brought in from Argentina. ☺

Plus the price and the service was fantastic.

#15  ...Nor is it a consequence of more testing

Ima calling Bullshit

When literally the next line addresses increased testing.

And the actual numbers are omitted. An increase of 25% of 10,000 cases ups to 12,500 that is 2,500. An increase of 5.5% of 2,000,000 tests is 2,110,000 that is 110,000.

When YNet gives worse information than the dinky morning news weatherman, and then that information is cited as, "Voluntarily lock yourself in your bedroom and wrap your face, or else."

#16  Mandate bungalows...

Stairs are the biggest danger at home..

How many falls result in deaths within 28 days?

We need to know the Stairs related deaths? LongStairs from slow injury recovery are a concern.

#17  #14 No. But you shouldn't do calculations like there are 38,800 deaths (2019) in vehicular accidents. There are 330,000,000 people in USA. Therefore your chance of being killed in road accident is 38800/330000000. That's, lumping different groups together in statistical calculations is called "The Fallacy Of The Average".

#18  Per the CDC :

The Facts About Global Road Traffic Injuries and Deaths
Each year, 1.35 million people are killed on roadways around the world.4
Every day, almost 3,700 people are killed globally in road traffic crashes involving cars, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, trucks, or pedestrians. More than half of those killed are pedestrians, motorcyclists, and cyclists.4
Road traffic injuries are estimated to be the eighth leading cause of death globally for all age groups and the leading cause of death for children and young people 5–29 years of age. More people now die in road traffic crashes than from HIV/AIDS.4

Low- and Middle-Income Countries Are Most Affected:
Low- and middle-income countries only account for 60 percent of the world’s registered vehicles but more than 90 percent of the world’s road traffic deaths.4
The road traffic crash death rate is over three times higher in low-income countries than in high-income countries.4
There were no reductions in the number of road traffic deaths in any low-income country from 2013 to 2016.4
Road traffic injuries place a huge economic burden on low- and middle-income countries. Each year, according to the latest available cost estimate (1998), road traffic injuries cost $518 billion USD worldwide and $65 billion USD in low- and middle-income countries, which exceeds the total amount that these countries receive in development assistance.5,6

#23  I think a simple rule of thumb is:
* if they take about number of infections they are scaremongering liars or fools
* If they talk about hospitalizations, deaths, or excess deaths caused by Covid they are trying to get at the truth of the pandemic

Study: Coronavirus antibodies fade rapidly after infection
[Arutz 7] - A new study by a team of researchers at the Imperial College London has found that antibodies developed following coronavirus infections disappear within a matter of weeks.

According to the REACT-2 study, antibody positivity fell by 26% between June and September.

While about 6% of those tested in July had detectable levels of coronavirus antibodies, only 4.4% had detectable levels of antibodies in September.

One of the researchers, Professor Helen Ward, said the study suggests that immunity "is waning quite rapidly."
Wrong, persistent production of specific antibodies in NOT part of immune memory. Antibodies are supposed to disappear after the antigen is cleared cf. Fishman, M. A., & Perelson, A. S. (1995). Lymphocyte memory and affinity selection. Journal of theoretical biology, 173(3), 241-262.

On the other hand, a few days ago, y'all ("covid sceptics") celebrated a paper by some little a$$hole brilliant immunological researcher that claimed to find lots & lots of anti-covid antibodies in all his (thousands) covid recovered test subjects months later: Hindu name, Stanford, I think. And I've predicted that it's total fake. Stanford strikes (out) again 😜
