PHOTOS: Texas National Guard Blocks Border Crossing as Wall Construction Continues
[Breitbart] Texas Army National Guard troops and equipment deployed by Governor Greg Abbott moved in to block a portion of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas. The troops began arriving on Friday and positioned themselves along a one-mile stretch of the river near the downtown area of the city.

The troops are stationed in Humvee vehicles carefully placed along the riverbank to serve as a deterrent to illegal crossings near the city. Nearly 30 vehicles are parked less than 150 feet from each other facing Mexico. Border Patrol agents in the area tell Breitbart Texas that more troops were scheduled to arrive later in the day.

As reported by Breitbart Texas, the area surrounding the ports of entry in Eagle Pass are known as high traffic areas for illegal crossings and are problematic for the Border Patrol due to the proximity to private residences in the city. Although many migrants choose to surrender hoping for quick release into the United States, many others, usually single adults, attempt to elude apprehension. Deterring migrants from crossing in the area prevents a quick escape into the populated areas within the city.

Governor Abbott utilized a similar tactic during the Haitian migrant crisis in Del Rio in September. Texas Highway Patrol troopers strategically placed vehicles along the river bank to prevent additional migrants from reaching the camp near a common crossing point in the area.

A short distance away, construction crews are working to build Abbott’s border wall where the guard troops’ blockade ends. For two miles, the Texas border wall will stand 18’ tall and stretch along one of the busiest migrant crossing areas in Eagle Pass. A source involved in the construction tells Breitbart the project is progressing quickly. The source expects a state delegation to visit the construction site soon to observe the progress firsthand.

The National Guard deployment is part of Governor Abbott’s Operation Lone Star that has been in effect since March. The operation involves the deployment of more than 1,000 Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Troopers and 2,500 Texas Army National Guard soldiers to the border region across the state.

As of October 7, the operation has resulted in 6,799 criminal arrests, 1,195 migrant prosecution cases for criminal trespass, and more than 71,000 migrant apprehensions. The highway patrol has been involved in more than 800 pursuits since the inception of the operation.

Recent Operational Activities of note include:

  • On October 5 in Jeff Davis County a traffic stop yielded six firearms, ammunition, several magazines, cocaine, THC, and $5,600 in cash. A migrant in the vehicle was referred to U.S. Border Patrol.

  • On Oct. 5 in Hidalgo County, Special Agents and Troopers seized 218 pounds of cocaine.

  • On Oct. 6, a vehicle pursuit in Edwards County involved the female driver and passenger live streaming it on Facebook. The pursuit ended when a tire deflation device was deployed, and the vehicle crashed. Five migrants in the vehicle were injured. Law enforcement found a handgun in the vehicle, as well as a small quantity of marijuana.

  • On Oct. 11 the Texas Army National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers collaborated in spotting and monitoring seven armed men in body armor on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande River near Starr County.

Then I will email this comment to other Rantburg mods that I have so they will clean up the supporting cast and maybe others will finally return to Rantburg.

1) I may post a story too close to end of day (unless breaking news) and delete my own comment. posting the story for next day;
2) I may regret my own comment (more often) and spamcop it.
3) Multiple stories/repetitive links are submitted on same news (very often) and TW or other diligent UNPAID FUCKING MODS miss attribution in necklacing them

I would respectfully submit: we are doing the best we can (I retired, then unretired for an aggressively-scheduled project of a Stadium/site). If you base your self-esteem on who gets credit on a breaking story - you will be disappointed. Give us a break, OK?

Recently, IS has shown signs of expansion in Afghanistan, with attacks in the north, the south and the capital of Kabul. The group's ability to launch frequent attacks has cast doubt over the Taliban's ability to maintain security and stability in the embattled country.

Last week, IS grabbed credit for a deadly suicide kaboom on a Shiite mosque in southern Afghanistan that killed 47 people and maimed scores more. It was the deadliest since the dramatic U.S. exit from the country, which allowed the Taliban to seize control of the Afghan capital.

ISIL claims responsibility for detonating power pylon in northern Kabul
[KhaamaPress] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Iraq and the Levant officially grabbed credit for detonating a power pylon that cut the main power line to Kabul and left the Afghan capital in complete darkness since Thursday.

In a statement released on the Telegram channel, the group said that the soldiers of the caliphate detonated a bomb on an electricity pylon in Kabul, to damage the electricity sector.

The power pylon exploded in the northern Shakardara district of Kabul that cut Kabul’s and other provinces’ electricity that is yet to be reconnected.

Sources have told Khaama Press that the power to be reconnected by the Saturday evening, October 23.

Afghanistan’s ministry of interior affairs on the other hand said that they have arrested three people accused of detonating the power pylon but did not say if the people were ISIS fighters.

Afghanistan’s electricity sector is largely dependent upon imported power as the country imports 80% of its electricity from Iran, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Detonating power pylons, especially in the north of Kabul is not a new story, the pylons would be detonating during the previous government that inflicted millions of Afghani financial loss to DABS- de Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (Electricity body of Afghanistan).

At least 12 people were killed in central Somalia as pro-government forces recaptured a strategic town from Sufi militants
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

At least 12 people were killed on Saturday in central Somalia as pro-government forces recaptured a strategic town from Sufi murderous Moslems seeking greater regional control, security officials and witnesses said.

Fighters loyal to Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa (ASWJ)
...a moderate Muslim Sufi paramilitary supported by Ethiopia that’s been fighting jihadi groups since the early 1990s. Al Shabaab is only their most recent opponent. From time to time ASWJ and the Somali National Army take opposite sides in local political disagreements...
were driven out of Guricel by national forces and paramilitaries in Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
, a region that has long faced an armed struggle by the Sufi militia.

"We have so far confirmed that 12 people, four of them civilians, were killed during heavy fighting in Guricel this morning," Mohammed Bile, a military commander in Galmudug, told AFP by phone.

"That toll could rise, but the situation is now calm and government forces are in control of most neighborhoods."

ASWJ fighters occupied Guricel earlier this month, taking control of Galmudug's second-largest town after a brief skirmish with local forces.

The Sufi group has controlled many of the major cities in Galmudug over the past decade, and efforts to broker a military and political settlement to their feud with regional authorities have not succeeded.

Galmudug information minister Ahmed Shire blamed ASWJ for provoking the latest festivities.

"Government forces kept their positions for a month, and called on the invading parties to vacate the town peacefully, to avoid armed confrontation and inflicting civilian casualties," he told news hounds.

"Unfortunately, they attacked military bases belonging to government forces, who fiercely repelled their advance. The government has taken back control of their positions, and driven the remnants of the militia into the bush."

Witnesses reported seeing casualties on both sides.

"There is still sporadic gunfire in pockets of town, but I can see military vehicles belonging to the national government in the streets," said Abdirahman Ali, a local resident.

The Sufi group's recent military advances in Galmudug coincide with upper house elections in the region, which is the last of Somalia's five federal member states to complete the long-overdue process.

Elections in Somalia follow a complex indirect model, whereby state legislatures and clan delegates pick politicians for the upper and lower houses of parliament, who in turn choose the president.

The presidential election is nearly a year overdue, the process dogged by political infighting at the highest level of government, and feuds between Mogadishu and some states.

#1  The Secret to the Northern Mozambique Insurgency’s Success, November 2, 2020
This commentary was originally published in War on the Rocks on October 8, 2020. This has been a banner year for Ahlu-Sunnah Wa-Jama (ASWJ)—or al-Shabaab [!!], as locals call it—operating in northern Mozambique. Between January and September, the insurgent group launched an estimated 357 attacks, which is double the attacks it conducted during the same period last year.
Note: This ASWJ is a very curioous outfit. Most Sufi (especially in the Mahgrib) are peaceable folk who just want to practice their religion. The fact that in Mozambique it has been called Al Shabsab may be close to the truth.

#3  Sufis have from time to time been as keen on the jihad of the sword as the non-mystic varieties of Islam. Andrew Bostum wrote an informative piece on the subject back in 2005, which sadly is halfway to link rot now. In summary, when Sufis ruled, in Turkey and elsewhere, they were just as violently expansionist, and just as fond of mistreating the unbelievers in their midst, as non-mystic versions of Sunni and Shiite Islam.

Dozens break out of jail in southwest Nigeria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gunmen have attacked a prison in southwest Nigeria, freeing dozens of inmates, an official told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Saturday.

The third jailbreak in Africa’s most populous country this year raises more concerns about how safe detention facilities are in the West African nation where authorities have struggled to stem rising violence. A handful of security facilities, especially cop shoppes, have been attacked in a similar manner in the past year.

Olanrewaju Anjorin, a front man of the Oyo correctional center in Oyo state, told the AP that the button men attacked the facility late Friday night and an investigation into the incident which will reveal the extent of damage has begun.

"I can’t ascertain the number of people that escaped or that were recaptured but I am telling you that the security has been beefed up around the custodial center and the town," he told AP in a phone interview.

Francis Enobore of the Nigerian Prisons Service also confirmed the incident and said he was on his way to the attacked facility.

Friday’s attack is the third this year in Nigeria, where jailbreaks are becoming more frequent and police only capture a fraction of those who escape. Lagos-based online newspaper TheCable reported in July this year that at least 4,307 inmates had beat feet from prisons since 2017, based on compiled media reports.

In 2021 alone, more than 2,000 inmates were freed in two earlier jailbreaks: on Sept. 13 when 240 inmates were freed after button men attacked a detention facility in north-central Kogi state with explosives and on April 5 when at least 1,800 were freed in the southeast Imo state when another facility was also blown up.

Most of the recent jailbreaks in Nigeria seem not to be connected although the attacks are carried out in a similar manner with the use of explosives.

Authorities have managed to rearrest some escaped inmates, sometimes in neighboring states, while others return willingly.

A good number of those who have escaped in such attacks are yet to be convicted and still awaiting trial. Nigerian prisons hold 70,000 inmates but only about 20,000, or 27 percent, have been convicted, according to government data.
Deutsche Welle adds:
During the attack more than 800 inmates were freed.

Its understood more than 200 escapees had been rearrested.

Around 575 prisoners who had been awaiting trial have been reported as missing while 262 had been recaptured.

"While all the awaiting trial detainees were forced out of custody, the cells housing the convicts and the female inmates were not vandalised," the prison service said in a statement.

Britain
Battalion of bankers will wage 'economic war' on jihadis and rogue states including China and Russia in a secretive taskforce
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • An army of City execs will join a secret taskforce to protect British financial infrastructures

  • It is being commandeered to wage economic warfare against China and Russia

  • The taskforce is already working with Special Forces and intelligence agencies

An army of City executives is being commandeered to wage economic warfare against China and Russia.

The battalion of bankers will join a secretive taskforce focusing on protecting British financial infrastructures from foreign attack.

They will also target international revenue streams for terror groups, Russian billionaires with links to president Vladimir Putin and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is believed to fund Middle Eastern terror groups.

The taskforce, mainly made up of reservists with City experience, is already working with Special Forces, intelligence agencies and the Army’s 77th Brigade, which specialises in online operations.

The unit is expanding after being used to shut down Islamic State’s financial support networks – a crucial part of the campaign to remove jihadis from Iraq and Syria.

The unit’s present activities are classified but are understood to involve targeting Kremlin-linked militias such as the Wagner group which is seeking to control mineral resources in Africa and threatening pro-Western governments.

Financial technology is also an area of growing importance with crypto-currencies used to support terrorist activities and militant groups such as the Taliban.

Tom Keatinge, of the Royal United Services Institute think-tank, said the UK avoided pressuring these areas ‘when we’re trying to negotiate with the Taliban but, if you need to, you can come down on them like a hammer and put them out of business.’

When IS jihadis captured huge swathes of Iraq and Syria, including oil reserves, in 2014 it was the richest terrorist organisation in the world.

But gradually the financial infrastructure which protected its ‘caliphate’ was undermined by a sophisticated intelligence-gathering operation by the UK and the US.

Eventually key revenue streams were identified and shut down. IS money ran out and it was prevented from procuring products such as chemical additives needed to turn crude oil into fuel for vehicles.

IS fundraising via the Iraqi central bank was also targeted, but such operations required a high degree of financial expertise not readily available in mainstream military units.

Caribbean-Latin America
Colombia captures its most wanted drug lord 'Otoniel'
[DW] Dairo Antonio Usuga was captured in a jungle raid involving 500 police personnel and 22 helicopters. President Ivan Duque compared it to the fall of Pablo Escobar.

Colombian authorities said on Saturday they captured Dairo Antonio Usuga, the country's biggest narco.

Usuga, better known by his alias "Otoniel," is the alleged leader of the violent mostly peaceful Clan Del Golfo cartel, which had control of major cocaine smuggling routes through thick jungles.

COMPARED TO CAPTURE OF ESCOBAR
Colombia's President Ivan Duque compared Saturday's arrest to the fall of Pablo Escobar, the Colombian drug lord killed in a police shootout in 1993.

"This the hardest blow... to drug trafficking this century in our country," Duque said.

"Alias Otoniel was the most feared drug lord in the world, a murderer of police, soldiers, local activists," he added.

The arrest was "the biggest penetration of the jungle ever seen in the military history of our country," Duque said.

Duque urged other members of the cartel to turn themselves in or "feel the full weight of the law."

Usuga stands accused of various crimes, including drug trafficking, murder, extortion, kidnapping, conspiracy and illegal recruiting of minors. He was on the US Drug Enforcement Administration's most wanted list.

The US State Department had offered up to $5 million (€4.29 million) for information leading to his arrest or conviction in 2009. US and British authorities were also informed about the details of the arrest.

WHO IS 'OTONIEL' USUGA?
The 50-year-old was born in Necocli and was the seventh of nine children to a rural family. At age 18, he joined a Marxist guerilla group that was later disbanded.

In the 90s, he aligned himself with the Peasant Self-Defenders of Cordoba and Uraba (ACCU), which worked to protect farmers against guerillas, and was also linked to drug trafficking. Some of these paramilitary groups then became the Gulf clan.

Usuga took over the leadership of the clan from his brother, who was killed by the police in 2012.

He evaded arrest for many years. During this operation, about 500 coppers and 22 helicopters were deployed.

[FoxNews] A massive and organized migrant caravan is on its way from southern Mexico toward the U.S., and has already surged past a blockade by Mexican forces attempting to stop it from getting to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Organizers tell Fox News that there are more than 2,000 migrants colonists in the caravan, setting off from Tapachula, Mexico — some carrying American flags and signs with President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S., father of Hunter. He blames Trump for losing Afghanistan.......
’s name. Tapachula is in the south of the country on the border with Guatemala.

The caravan is not merely a group of migrants colonists congregating together, organizers made migrants colonists who wished to participate in the caravan to register with a QR code on their phones or a web link to participate.

Within hours, the flood of migrants colonists encountered a wall of Mexican interior police wearing protective gear and wielding shields. But the security did not hold, as migrants colonists forced their way through the blockade and continued on their way to try and seek entry into the U.S. interior.
An act of war, if someone wants to get technical about it.
Customs and Border Protection announced Friday that there had been more than 1.7 million migrant encounters in Fiscal Year 2021, breaking records. Additionally, there were more than 192,000 encounters in September alone — a slight decrease from the more than 200,000 encountered in July and August, but a sign that the border crisis that has dogged the Biden administration (aka the Wilmington comorra)
...the collection of boodlers, grifters, hangers-on, and self-proclaimed experts affiliated with the Biden Crime Family. Entrusted with an entire nation as the result of a suspicious election, they set about happily implementing stuff they absorbed in college, all of which blew up and splattered the rest of us...
is far from over. The administration also had to deal with a massive Haitian migrant surge in September, and fears that more surges could be on the way.

IDF, police foil gun, drug smuggling operation; Hezbollah involvement suspected
[IsraelTimes] 2 pistols and 9kg of hashish worth $110,000 seized near northern border, believed to have been brought into Israel from Lebanon.

Israeli security forces on Saturday said they thwarted an operation to smuggle drugs and weapons from Leb

, potentially on behalf of the Hezbollah terrorist organization.

Israel Police and Israel Defense Forces said two pistols and 21 packages containing around 9 kg of hashish with a value of around NIS 350,000 (approximately $109,000) were seized in the operation.

The IDF said that suspects were observed close to the northern border town of Metula, at which point troops were dispatched to the scene where they seized the contraband.

Police said they opened an investigation into the incident. There were no reports of arrests.

"The possibility that the [smuggling] attempt was made with the help of the terrorist organization Hezbollah is being examined," the IDF said in a statement.

Hezbollah has long maintained control over the area adjacent to the border with Israel and is unlikely to be unaware of smuggling operations. The terror group is known to fund its activities through drug sales around the world, including producing large amounts of hashish in eastern Lebanon.

In June, the IDF said it arrested an Arab Israeli father and son suspected of smuggling a large amount of hashish and firearms into Israel from Lebanon, also potentially on behalf of Hezbollah. The suspects were found in possession of 15 handguns, dozens of ammunition magazines and some 36 kilograms (80 pounds) of hashish. In total, the IDF said the contraband was worth roughly NIS 2 million ($616,000).

Though most illegal firearms in Israel are used for criminal purposes, not necessarily for terrorism, Israeli security services believed that at least some of the pistols from the June haul were meant to be used in terror attacks orchestrated by Hezbollah. Israeli officials refused to elaborate on how they reached this conclusion.
