-Lurid Crime Tales-
Jesse Jr. tells The Daily he's 'not well'
His constituents haven't seen him in four months. His staff insists he is too depressed for public appearances. But The Daily found Jesse Jackson Jr. smoking a cigar on the stoop of his $1.3 million home yesterday, the same day he was accused of bilking his campaign funds and drinking away his nights with women who aren't his wife.

In his first interview since taking a leave of absence in early June, the Illinois congressman -- sitting with his father, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson Sr. -- talked about his health and how he is spending his time with Election Day less than a month away and his job on the line. In late summer, Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson announced that her husband had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was being treated at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Jackson told The Daily that he is "not well" and has doctor's appointments twice a day at George Washington University Hospital, not far from his home in the trendy DuPont Circle neighborhood: "I go over there ... at 10 [a.m.] and 1 p.m."

When The Daily's photographer took his picture earlier in the day, Jackson explained he had been "picking up my kids." He didn't elaborate on whether he was headed to the school or had just returned when he decided to take a cigar break on the steps, resting his lit Monte Cristo on a wall leading up to the front entrance of his red-brick Victorian. On the driveway were a cigar butt, a cigar band, a half-foot pile of ashes and a nearly full box of matches.
Man needs to step down and focus on life, health and family. The Chicago Tribune has a longer story that incorporates this one and provides a fair bit of background on JJJ's legal and personal troubles.

#2  If he's spending most of each day at the hospital they must believe they've got his body clean and on the right meds, and his mind stabilized enough that he no longer needs to lbe confined to the residential psych ward. Now he's working on dealing with his issues and getting ready to face his world again. I imagine they won't take his name off the ballot in order to give him hope that his world will be there when he is ready to rejoin it, beyond the politicl issues pointed out in Dr. Steve's article.

"I go over there ... at 10 [a.m.] and 1 p.m."

Do the math -- there's only three hours between 10am and 1pm. Take an hour away for lunch, and that leaves two hours.

Just WTF are we supposed to believe is being done for those two hours?

I frankly don't care that he's "in trouble and needs help". He's a corrupt son of a bitch and should be being treated in a prison hospital. His continued presence in Congress is an insult to the entire country.

Home Front: WoT
The McCain/Graham/Ayotte Statement on Benghazi
Senators McCain, Graham and Ayotte released the following statement yesterday evening on Hillary Clinton's comments regarding the 9/11 terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi:

We have just learned that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has claimed full responsibility for any failure to secure our people and our Consulate in Benghazi prior to the attack of September 11, 2012. This is a laudable gesture, especially when the White House is trying to avoid any responsibility whatsoever.

However, we must remember that the events of September 11 were preceded by an escalating pattern of attacks this year in Benghazi, including a bomb that was thrown into our Consulate in April, another explosive device that was detonated outside of our Consulate in June, and an assassination attempt on the British Ambassador. If the President was truly not aware of this rising threat level in Benghazi, then we have lost confidence in his national security team, whose responsibility it is to keep the President informed. But if the President was aware of these earlier attacks in Benghazi prior to the events of September 11, 2012, then he bears full responsibility for any security failures that occurred. The security of Americans serving our nation everywhere in the world is ultimately the job of the Commander-in-Chief. The buck stops there.

Furthermore, there is the separate issue of the insistence by members of the Administration, including the President himself, that the attack in Benghazi was the result of a spontaneous demonstration triggered by a hateful video, long after it had become clear that the real cause was a terrorist attack. The President also bears responsibility for this portrayal of the attack, and we continue to believe that the American people deserve to know why the Administration acted as it did.

#3  You're just saying that because whenever Barry went over-time, they would change camera angles off the stop clock. Money shot zoom-ins were a nice touch. Still could tell how much taller Romney is, even though Barry was tutored in camera angle tricks a la Tom Cruise.

#4  When you have nothing to say, use as much time as possible to say it. When they ask about guns, talk about education. Then when your opponent tries to speak, interrupt him. You don't have to be as obnoxious as Smirkin' Joe Biden but do not hesitate to butt in even if it's not your turn to speak. You DO NOT want those undecided voters to hear what Mitt has to say. Oh, call him a liar too and don't worry about the facts. Nobody's checking.

Do I need a /sarc tag for this?

Yes, it does matter because they're denying the Republican the opportunity to speak. They can't hide it any longer. This is their strategy. There is nothing they can say to defend their record because their record sucks. That leaves them with two options: paint the Republicans as right-wing whackos and deny them the opportunity to speak.

And its how bad teams beat good teams in football, deny them possession, so the good team has to prove its good by scoring with the limited possessions available. Its why a question about jobs ends up with the killing of bin laden.

Barry did that in '08 as well. Russia was kicking Georgia and the candidates were asked about it, and Barry ended up someplace bizarre, like education.

#9  From this past Sunday Morning Coffee Pot:

Biden's refusal to allow a real debate isn't an accident. The left has no intention to allow policy discussion or debate by the citizenry. They have embraced the heckler's veto on a key activity of a constitutional republic.

And they have done so because they do not share the core values or presuppositions on which this country was built.

#13  Bizarre Coincidence II:

a. Moderator selects the question; "Mr. President, when did you know the event in Benghazi was a terrorist act?"

b. Champ: "I said it was a terrorist act in the Rose Garden". (Slipping back to his chair and out of the blast radius)

c. An obviously gobsmacked Willard attempts to confirm Champ's statement, gets no confirming, but rather a "proceed governor" statement from the Champ.

d. Champ: Comfortably seated and smiling shouts out "get the transcript". And then again, "get the transcript".

d. Willard attempts to digest and process the revelation only to have the moderator, actually holding a copy of the "transcript" confirm the Rose Garden statement with stuttering caveats.

e. Champ: "Thank you Candy, would you say that again please".

f. Applause from the crowd to include FLOTUS.

g. The following day the moderator walks back her confirmation of the Rose Garden terrorixsm statement.

Tell me what you see taking place here.

O Answers Each Question Twice
Twice?
For most every question asked on Tuesday night, President Obama had two answers: the one about him, and the one about Mitt Romney. From the outset of their spirited 90-minute debate, Obama replied to each query both by spelling out his own policies and attacking Romney's record or ideas.

After losing his first debate with Romney, Obama had no choice but to pull double-duty. He sought to undercut building support for his opponent among undecided voters, while allaying concerns about his own commitment within his own political base.

At the end, his staff and supporters felt relieved both on style and substance points, while Romney was quick off the stage and out of the debate hall. Romney's aides, though, felt in the long run that fact-checkers would declare their candidate the winner in the night's war of words.
Obama had a common theme -
After Romney was given a chance to rebut, Obama replied, bluntly: "What Governor Romney said just isn't true."

At points, the candidates spoke over each other and trailed one another across the floor, as they sought to have their opponent acknowledge their answer. One in particular drew gasps, when Romney cut off the president of the United States by saying, "You'll get your chance in a moment; I'm still speaking."
He was polite, but firm, after several Presidential interruptions and drew not gasps, but cheers, from my seat.
Nonetheless, Romney did not yield any quarter to Obama. "The president's statement of my policy is completely and totally wrong," he said as he defended his contraception views in an answer typical of several he gave during the night.

Romney also seized the challenger's prerogative, aiming to hold the incumbent accountable for the promises he issued during his first campaign. "The president has tried, but his policies haven't worked," the former Massachusetts governor said. "He's great as a speaker and describing his plans and his vision. That's wonderful, except we have a record to look at," added Romney. "And that record shows he just hasn't been able to cut the deficit, to put in place reforms for Medicare and Social Security to preserve them, to get us the rising incomes we need."

Romney also prospered as Obama avoided direct answers to two consecutive questions. One man asked simply and succinctly, Who was it that denied enhanced security for the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and why?

The president began, "Well, let me first of all talk about our diplomats..."
Two minutes, Champ.
He then incorrectly called them 'his' diplomats. He was right the first time...
After paying homage to the late Ambassador and three other Americans killed in a Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the facility, Obama turned away from the answer to another attack on Romney. "While we were still dealing with our diplomats being threatened, Governor Romney put out a press release, trying to make political points, and that's not how a commander in chief operates," said Obama.

When it was his turn to answer, Romney said: "It was a terrorist attack, and it took a long time for that to be told to the American people. Whether there was some misleading, or instead whether we just didn't know what happened, you have to ask yourself why didn't we know five days later, when the ambassador to the United Nations went on TV to say that this was a demonstration. How could we have not known?"
We knew. And the President knew. Ambassador Rice knew. Hillary knew. So how do you answer Romney's question?

#3  We knew. And the President knew. Ambassador Rice knew. Hillary knew. So how do you answer Romney's question?

That's easy. He didn't answer. He pouted about having to meet the caskets. He talked about the Foreign Service as if they are all his personal slaves. He claimed to be offended by Romney having the impertinence to even ask such a question. But he did not answer the question.

Same thing when Romney brought up Fast&Furious. He ignored it. This issue was guns and Obummer started talking about education. Of course, he could blither on all night about education and at that point that's exactly what he was trying to do. He wanted to run out the clock.

The pundits can talk all they want about how their Anointed One came out swinging, how passionate he was, how aggressive he was and blah, blah, blah. But what did he really say? Absolutely nothing and he took over three more minutes than Romney to say it. Oh, he did criticize Romney for his policies on Planned Parenthood, Sesame Street and immigration. But I like Romney's policies on those issues.

Store Owners Say Political Signs Bad for Business
The second floor of the shopping center is home to campaign headquarters for General John Douglass, the Democrat running for the fifth district Congressional seat. His campaign had this to say about the sign complaints:

"It must be a slow news days to do a story on Douglass's Help Virginia Families signs that have attracted our supporters to surrounding businesses. We encourage others to appeal to all voters by allowing signs on both sides."

But small business owners say it's not about politics, it's about their bottom line. And contrary to Douglass' campaign message, Crews says those signs are definitely not attracting new customers.

"Customers have said they will not shop here as long as the signs are out there and they wont shop here in the future knowing that we, as a shopping center, are supporting that political candidate-even though it's not 'we' as a shopping center, it's one tenant," Crews said.

The landlord of the shopping center has heard similar complaints from other store owners, so a new rule is in place for the building tenants. The Douglass campaign can only put up signs for Douglass, not his party running mates.

The campaign has already taken down large signs in front of the building, with President Barack Obama's name, but say they plan to replace it with a similar size sign with Douglass' name.

If he is defeated, and the election gets certified for Romney, he'll have no choice. While it has never happened, Obama can be removed by force if necessary once Romney is sworn in.

If he does try any nonsense, D.C. will likely burn, the people will not have much more of this creature.

#5  If through some alleged vote counting or procedural misdead, the certification is delayed through legal means, what then ?

First check with the county boards of elections wherever you have lived to make sure you and yours are no longer registered in the old places, and are registered where you live currently -- it can be done on-line for most jurisdictions. Here in Ohio nearly half a million names have been cleaned from the rolls as duplicates and deceased, which seems to have the Democrats concerned. I actually got a phone call last week from a pollster who wanted to know if I intended to vote, was I sure, and what time did I plan in getting to the polls. Which leads me to the nest point, which is vote early in the day, and vote in person. It's harder for votes to go astray when they don't start out in a loseable mailbag. Finally, volunteer as a poll watcher, so you can control attempts at hanky panky in your polling place at least.

i haven't met you in person, Besoeker, but I suspect you can be formidable when you choose to be, and ditto for quite a few of our Rantburgers.

I do not trust them either, not for a second. But I don't worry about Vote Fraud too much here in Texas. I do worry about it elsewhere though. TW offers sage advice on the getting involved side.

And Broadhead6 makes a solid point, if the Left even try to steal this election they will be making a grave mistake. I don't think it is going to be possible though, all of the direct and anecdotal evidence I've seen and heard shows this is going to be a Repub wave, possibly even bigger than 2010.

Lots of Joe & Jane Democrats in the street have had the scales ripped from their eyes and have finally seen what their Party has become. The Marxists have cast aside their mask too soon, and the jig is up. Hence their desperation.

All Barky had to do was play it cool for his first term and just get the stage set for a second term and the whole enchilada could have been theirs, but they over reached due to their excitement of having their decades long goal in reach.

#8  I doubt that the debate changed anyone's feelings ... but speaking objectively it was a "win" for Obama. He bounced back from the first debate.

That was Chicago politics at its "finest". Hillary took the sword for the Libya cock-up, Obama stands up with majesty and says "But I'm the President and the buck stops here". And the whole thing is defused ... Romney has nothing to come back with. This was exactly why Hillary had to come out with her early statement this week.

Since when has the policies and behavior and any president been off-limits. No, a million times no, whoever is in that office.

#8  I wonder if Michelle could entice these guys from West Virginia into voting for Barry ?

Above, the mayor and a couple of the city councilmen anxiously await our (The Rambler and his posse's) arrival later this evening.

Michelle could steal the Rambler's line:

"How'd you boys like some possum stew and a swag of some 'shine?"

Yup, that'll win'em over.

#9  Can you believe that racist presidential candidate said Smart as a Whip? What nerve, conjuring up the treatment of African Americans backinthebadtimes. Right to her face, unbelievable.

BTW, isn't knucklehead a person so dumb they end up getting in more fights than they should. Charming.

#10  A kucklehead is someone who doesn't duck enough in a fight? Someone who falls for a feint everytime? Someone who sees the right coming but not the left? I'm just saying, I don't know.

#11  I have always understood it as someone so dumb they needs a beating; gets knuckles to head.

#12  Go ahead and waste your time, Moochelle.

You've already got the knucklehead (and the idiot, and the lackey, and the minion, and the lefty, and the moocher) vote sewn up.

Home Front: Culture Wars
In state tuition considered for illegals but not veterans
Its well past time that state institutions justify their existence on the public purse. Many originated as A&Ms, agricultural and mechanical, over a century ago to provide practical skills to the state and community. Today that would be Application and Medical, and leave the esoteric stuff and functional professional athletic farm teams for the private colleges.

#1  Just as they provided educational pathways and benefits based on race, gendor, and diversity, the GOVERNMENT will select winners and losers also extend educational venues for illegals non-documented American citizens. Nothing new here, it is a natural extension of established 9/11 infiltrator foreign student programs.

#2  Hopefully, the public attention will make this right for this vet.
Posted by: JohnQC || 10/17/2012 10:43 Comments || Top||

#3  The political class prefers illegals to actual citizens -- the illegals are captive to the political class's goodwill, and come from countries where corruption is an accepted norm.

#4  As per FREEREPUBLIC, illegals in Los Angeles, CA may be given formal IDS as "illegals".

The concept has the support of the pro-Reconquista AZTLAN Movement.

A123 Files For Bankruptcy
A123 Systems has filed for bankruptcy protection in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, Bloomberg reports. Late yesterday, the battery company had warned that it was about to default on several loan issues, noting that a bankruptcy filing was a possibility; but it still seems startling to see them file just hours later.

A123 makes rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for electric cars. The company has been hurt by the slow development of the electric car market.

Don’t be surprised to see this turn into a Solyndra-style political football; A123 had received $249 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Energy.

A123 this morning is down 14 cents, or 57.9%, to 10 cents.

#1  Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

How do you think I'm going to get along,
without you, when you're gone
You took me for everything that I had,
and kicked me out on my own
Are you happy, are you satisfied
How long can you stand the heat

#3  A123 Electric Car Battery Plants Saved From Bankruptcy By Auto-Parts Maker

Despite filing for bankruptcy protection yesterday(Oct 17 2012), lithium-ion battery firm A123 Systems has said the factories where it makes electric car battery cells will be saved, thanks to a $125 million deal with automotive parts maker Johnson Controls.

Already a huge Tier One global automotive parts supplier, Johnson Controls sells around 120 million lead-acid starter batteries a year to the automotive industry, as well as everything from instrument panels and information displays to headliners and floor consoles.

The purchase of A123 Systems’ automotive business by Johnson Controls will not only give the auto-parts maker the chance to build and sell lithium-ion batteries to automakers, but hopes to safeguard two of A123 System’s battery facilities in the U.S.

#4  That doesn't get back any of the taxpayer's money though.

Unless a total economic miscalculation, bankruptcy only destroys debt. The assets merely change ownership.
