11 Police Killed/Wounded In Balkh, Police Under Siege in Jawzjan
[ToloNews] Reinforcements have arrived in Shor Tepa, Balkh, but Jawzjan’s police standoff with the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
is ongoing and they are still waiting for assistance.

At least 11 security forces were killed or maimed on Monday night during a clash with the Taliban in Balkh province, local officials said Tuesday.

Monir Ahmad Farhad, front man for the Balkh police, said the incident occurred on Monday night in Shor Tepa district after Taliban fighters attacked the district police headquarters.

According to Farhad, during the clash the Taliban also suffered casualties, but numbers have not been confirmed.

Reinforcements have arrived in the area, and the district is currently under the control of Afghan forces, Farhad said.

The Taliban confirmed the attack and claimed that dozens of Afghan soldiers were killed in the clash.

In Jawzjan province, 30 local police and armed locals‐including the district governor and the district police chief‐have been held under siege by the Taliban for the past two days in the Darzab district of the province, officials say.

Lotfullah Azizi, Jawzjan provincial governor, said that the district capital is under the Taliban’s control and that the Afghan forces are pinned down close to the district bazaar.

Azizi said that so far no reinforcements have arrived to the area.

Hafizullah Nadrat, a member of the Jawzjan provincial council, said that if reinforcements are not deployed, the government forces will be captured by the Taliban.
An Nahar’s version of events in Shortepa district must have been posted earlier in the day:
At least 11 policemen were killed and over a dozen captured Tuesday when Taliban fighters stormed their headquarters in northern Afghanistan, officials said.

A column of more than 400 Taliban fighters on motorbikes attacked Shortepa district police headquarters in Balkh province in the early hours, triggering a lengthy gunfight, provincial spokesman Munir Farhad told AFP.

"Eleven policemen were killed in the attack. The Taliban also suffered heavy losses," he said.

Karim Khan, the Shortepa district chief, told AFP the Taliban had captured 13 other policemen and set the headquarters' buildings on fire before leaving the area.

In a statement, the Taliban claimed responsibility, saying their fighters had overrun the district.

Africa North
Mali Army in Major Clash with Jihadists
[AnNahar] A large contingent of Malian troops, backed by air support, fought Tuesday with jihadist fighters who made an incursion into a military camp in the country's fragile central region, sources said.

Two military posts came under attack at dawn on Monday at Boulkessy and Mondoro, towns near by the border with Burkino Faso.

The assailants at Boulkessy are "suspected members of Ansarul Islam",
...which emerged near the Mali border in December 2016...
said G5 Sahel, a five-nation joint taskforce created in 2014 to try to tackle jihadist violence in the region.

The Malian army has not yet reported an official corpse count, but a local official told AFP that two civilians were rubbed out in Boulkessy.

A military source said that Malian special forces had been active around Boulkessy.

"The fighting continues," the source told AFP.

The source said that air support was bolstering troops in Boulkessy, while reinforcements had left Mondoro.

"We currently have deployed a large amount of resources to take back two positions... in Boulkessy fallen into the hands of terrorists," said another military source.

A local official in a nearby town confirmed that he saw a Malian army helicopter headed towards Boulkessy.

The fate of numerous soldiers caught in the fighting remained uncertain on Tuesday, according to several military sources.

Northern Mali fell into the hands of jihadists in 2012 before the murderous Moslems were forced out by a French-led military intervention.

But much of the region remains chronically unstable and jihadist-led violence has spread to the center of the country, often sparking bloodshed between ethnic groups.

and Niger have also been infiltrated by bad boys, at the cost of hundreds of lives.

Ansarul Islam has been accused of numerous attacks in Burkina Faso since emerging in the border region in 2016.

Migrant, refugee death toll in Mediterranean tops 1,000 for 6th year: UN
[AlAhram] More than 1,000 migrants colonists and refugees have died in the Mediterranean Sea this year, the sixth year in a row that this "bleak milestone" has been reached, the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
said on Tuesday.

The U.N. refugee agency UNHCR called for Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Union (EU) member states to reactivate search and rescue operations and acknowledge the crucial role of aid groups' vessels in saving lives at sea.

"The tragedy of the Mediterranean cannot be allowed to continue," Charlie Yaxley, front man of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said in a statement.

The bodies of five migrants colonists were found on Morocco's Atlantic coast near Casablanca on Monday, bringing to 12 the number killed when their boat capsized on Saturday, the state news agency reported.

The EU struck a deal with Ankara in 2016 to cut off refugee and migrant flows to Greece from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
. Departures, now also diverted largely via Libya and other parts of North Africa, have fallen sharply from a peak of more than 1 million in 2015 to some 78,000 so far this year, UNHCR figures show.

"Of course the number of people attempting to cross the Mediterranean are much lower. So, that points to the fact that the journeys themselves are much more dangerous," UNHCR spokeswoman Liz Throssell told Rooters Television.

"It is also worth highlighting that 70 percent of the deaths actually occur on the central Mediterranean, namely people attempting to get from Libya across to Italia or Malta."

More than 18,000 people have bit the dust in Mediterranean crossings since 2014, according to figures from both the UNHCR and the website of the U.N.'s International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Iraq
One killed, 200 wounded in Iraq’s anti-government protests
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ An Iraqi person was killed and 200 others were maimed Tuesday in festivities between protesters and security forces in different Iraqi cities, the Ministry of Health said.

The festivities with demonstrators also left 40 coppers maimed, the ministry said in a press statement.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella grabbed the cocoanut cream...
a government security body blamed rioters for the fall of victims, saying that some of them sough to stir up violence among peaceful protesters.

The Security Media Cell, in its statement, called on the demonstrators to exercise restraint and respect the right to demonstrate, which is guaranteed by the constitution.

Several Iraqi provinces have seen mass protests in response to online campaigns to express anger about the deteriorating situation in the country, topped by the lack of services, rampant corruption and high unemployment rates.

Some protesters rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud in favor of Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, who was fired from his post as commander of the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Services (ICTS) last week.

The decision to dismiss al-Saadi and transfer him to work under the command of the Defense Ministry made a stir among observers, given that Saidi was a starring name in the three-year battles and subsequent victory against Islamic State

Lions of Islam in late 2017.
Rudaw adds:
Riot police used water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition to disperse the crowd of mostly young men, who covered their faces with scarves and flags.

Medics at Sheikh Zaid Hospital who spoke to Rudaw put the figure at three dead..

Firebrand Shiite cleric and Sayirun alliance chief Muqtada al-Sadr tweeted on Tuesday evening calling on the president, prime minister, and speaker of the parliament to launch an inquiry into what happened.

Among the protesters Rudaw met a unit of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), known in Arabic as Hashd al-Shaabi. Unlike other factions of the PMF which operate independently of the government, theirs was under the command of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense (MoD).

The faction complained of “marginalization” within the security apparatus, saying they do not get paid a government salary like their Iraqi Army counterparts and lack sufficient logistical support.

“For how long will the state turn its back on them [MoD PMF]?” one demanded.

Iraq’s second city of Basra also saw protests on Tuesday, according to the city’s Tribal Council secretary general Sheikh Raid al-Firieji. Security forces responded with “excessive force” and arrested protestors, he told Rudaw.

In the summer of 2018, protests over unemployment and inadequate water and electricity supply in Basra soon spread across the country. They were met with violent state suppression, killing at least 14 protesters.

A member of Iraqi parliament’s biggest political bloc warned Monday against the politicization of the protests by opportunists.

“We warn against the politicization of protests or its deviation from its legitimate goals and demands,” Rami al-Sikeini, a Sayirun Alliance MP from Basra, told Rudaw.

Last year’s protests dashed the hopes of former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi of gaining a second term in office.

Current Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi was elected as an independent candidate who does not belong to a particular parliamentary bloc, making him vulnerable to pressure from both the public and parliamentary forces.
An Nahar adds:
More than 1,000 protesters had descended on the capital before security forces dispersed the crowds with a volley of gunfire and tear gas.

According to medical and police sources, most of the wounded needed treatment for tear gas inhalation and some were injured by rubber bullets.

A health official in Dhi Qar later said that one protester was killed and two others were wounded in the southern province.

- Police block bridge to Green Zone -
Demonstrators were cleared from Tahrir Square a first time but then regrouped, facing a steady volley of live shots, water cannons and tear gas from security forces.

More shots were fire even after the crowds had dispersed into adjacent neighborhoods.

Some protesters made their way towards Al-Jumhuriyah Bridge, which leads into the high-security Green Zone that houses government offices and foreign embassies.

Police had set up metal barricades and stationed trucks at the mouth of the bridge to prevent protesters from crossing, and a security source inside the zone told AFP that reinforcements were requested.

The gathering was the biggest demonstration against Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi since he came to power in late October 2018, just months after demonstrations that engulfed the southern city of Basra last summer.

According to the World Bank, youth unemployment in Iraq is running at around 25 percent, double the national average.

Other protests in Nasiriyah and Najaf, south of Baghdad, on Tuesday saw hundreds gather in anger at poor services before also being dispersed by tear gas, AFP correspondents there said.

Since 2004, a year after the US-led invasion that ousted dictator Saddam Hussein, almost $450 billion of public funds has vanished into the pockets of shady politicians and businessmen, according to official figures.

terrorist during a military operation in Anbar province.

The arrest of the IS bad boy was based on intelligence information, added the directorate.

The bad boy took part in the fight against security forces during the group’s three-year capture of vast swathes of Iraqi territories, the statement.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Deir Ezzor: Bomb kills three oil employees in east Syria: Monitor
[AlAhram] A kaboom Tuesday near a key oil field in eastern Syria targeted US-backed fighters but killed three workers instead, a war monitor said Tuesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the earth-shattering kaboom occurred on the road outside the al-Omar oilfield, the country's largest in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

Al-Omar is under the control of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces who have been fighting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group.

Part of the oil field is used as an SDF base, while workers have resumed production in another.

Tuesday's blast struck on the nearby road "as a vehicle transporting oil field employees drove by, killing three workers," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

"The bomb exploded at a distance just after an SDF patrol had passed by," the head of the Britannia-based monitoring group said.

There was no immediate claim for the blast, but IS often says it is responsible for deadly attacks in the area.

The Kurdish-led SDF expelled IS from its last patch of territory in the village of Baghouz south of al-Omar in March, but has continued to sweep for jihadist sleeper cells.

IS overran large parts of Syria and neighbouring Iraq in 2014, declaring a "caliphate" and implementing its brutal interpretation of Islam on millions.

The jihadists seized al-Omar that same year, before the SDF retook control a little more than a year later with backing from air strikes by a US-led coalition.

The air raids in 2015 destroyed the field, after the jihadists had reaped estimated oil revenues from it of between $1.7 million and $5.1 million a month, according to the coalition.

Iran Issues Death Sentence for Accused U.S. Spy
Queerly enough, none of the names in the article appear in Rantburg’s archive, unusual for American spies captured in Iran.
[FreeBeacon] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has issued a death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
for an individual it has accused of spying for the United States, according to the Islamic Theocratic Republic's judiciary.

Iranian courts also issued jail terms of up to 10 years for individuals Tehran accuses of spying for the United States and the United Kingdom.

Iranian prosecutors in the country's notoriously corrupt legal system have requested that the accused U.S. spies be killed for their alleged crimes.

One accused spy, Ali Nafariyeh, "has been sentenced to 10 years of prison and fined with the payment of $55,000 for spying for the CIA benefit," Gholamhossein Esmayeeli, a front man for Iran's judiciary, announced on Tuesday in Tehran, according to the country's state-controlled press.

Another accused spy, Mohammad Babapour, is set to receive a similar sentence.

"Another individual, namely Amir Nasab, has also been sentenced to 10 years in prison for spying for Britannia," Esmayeeli said.

The individual sentenced to death has appealed the decision to Iran's court, though it remains unclear if Tehran will stay the execution.

"Members of the [spy] team were identified last year with strenuous efforts of the Iranian security forces and its agents were identified in Iran's sensitive centers, including the nuclear and defense centers and the country's public infrastructures and most of them were arrested," Esmayeeli said when the alleged spy operations were first announced in July.

Iraq suspends consulate activities in Iran as two Iraqi diplomats arrested
It appears that the Mullahs have decided the seduction phase of their relationship with Iraq is over.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Iraq decided Tuesday to suspend activities at its consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad after two Iraqi diplomats were beaten and arrested there earlier this week.

"It was decided to suspend operations at the Iraqi consulate in Mashhad after two Iraqi employees were beaten," Spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry Ahmad al-Sahaf told Sky News TV channel.

"Baghdad is awaiting an Iranian explanation on the incident," Sahaf added.

The two diplomats were arrested on Saturday in Mashhad after being placed under observation by the Iranian security forces, according to a written statement issued by the Iraqi Consulate General in Mashhad.

It was not immediately clear why the pair had been arrested or why their diplomatic immunity had not been recognized.

The diplomats were later released without bail.
