Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief September 21, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • CIVILIAN ARRESTS — 25 non-combatants have reportedly been arrested in Ghazni and Panjshir provinces over the previous 24 hours.

    • 5 people in Ghazni were arrested after being accused of involvement with Hizb-ut-Tahrir. Their current disposition is unknown.

    • 20 non-combatants in Dara Abdullah Khel village in Panjshir were arrested after convening a meeting to discuss a recent Taliban proclamation that ordered the departure of all residents of the town. The residents were ordered to leave since they were believed to support the NRF, and the Taliban are attempting to eradicate the NRF’s support among the civilian population. The whereabouts of the 20 prisoners are unknown.

  • TALIBAN SOCIAL MEDIA CHIEF INSULTS PAKISTAN — In a recent press briefing, General Mubeen Khan, the director of the Taliban’s social media, delivered several insults aimed at Pakistan and called for closer ties to India in order to expose Pakistan’s hypocrisy. He spoke pointedly of a recent deal that the Taliban signed with Iran that will allow them to use the port of Chabahar as a primary export-import point and claimed that traffic through Pakistan will decline significantly over the next year.

  • TRICOLOR FLAG INVESTIGATIONS — Taliban officials are investigating reports that several towns in Nangahar province have raised the tricolor flag of the previous regime in their town squares. Apparently, the Ministry of the Interior is dispatching agents to question the leadership in the towns where this has reputedly occurred.

  • IRAN CALLS FOR INCLUSIVE GOV’T — During a recent press conference, the Iranian Foreign Minister commented on reports that Taliban forces summarily executed prisoners of war in Panjshir. The Minister stressed that Iran does not support any military forces in Afghanistan. He emphasized the need for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, but said he believes that this will be impossible while active armed opposition continues in the country.

CONFLICT TRACKER
No reports of fighting have been received over the previous 24 hours. It appears both sides in the conflict are taking time to reconsolidate their forces.

NEXT 24 HOURS
FORMER GOV’T TO REPRESENT AFGHANISTAN AT UN — A representative of the former democratic government, Chargé d'Affaires Naseer Ahmad Faiq, will continue to represent Afghanistan during a major upcoming UN session. The Taliban have been pushing for recognition at the UN for the past year and are furious at the decision, but the former representative has continued to operate in the role with no foreseeable signs of change.

Daily Evacuation Brief | September 20, 2022

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • HOUSE-TO-HOUSE SEARCH SURGE — Increased house searches have been occurring from Kabul to Kandahar, mostly at night. It is not clear what the Taliban are looking for other than their openly stated purpose of recovering government assets and weapons. Several sources have indicated that men have been arrested during searches in both Kabul and Kandahar, but we have not been supplied with the justification and/or details behind who has been detained. In a potentially related move, the governor of Balkh announced that houses/apartments that have been rented to ISIS militants will be seized.

  • AFGHANS FIGHTING IN TAJ-KYRG BORDER CLASHES — The Secretary of the Kyrgyz Security Council recently claimed that Afghan nationals have been fighting on behalf of Tajik security forces during the recent border clashes between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The Secretary called the Afghans members of an international terrorist organization, leading to a diplomatic row. The Afghans are believed to be working for pay and recruited to supplement Tajik forces. Kyrgyz intelligence services claim that the Taliban have identified at least one man as Afghan in a video of the fighting. However, the Taliban have not publicly acknowledged the accusations. A tenuous ceasefire between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan seems to be holding, but international observers estimate that both sides have suffered over 100 killed and a further 200-300 injured, primarily civilians. Security forces of both countries are currently arrayed in force on both sides of the border, and the situation remains tense.

  • SHOOTING IN CAPITAL — Gunfire broke out during a meeting at the Kabul Chamber of Mines and Industries on Monday. It is not clear what happened. We have reports of some injuries sustained from the shooting, but no loss of life is thought to have taken place.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Takhar: NRF forces executed a late night hit-and-run attack on the Taliban outpost in Chaman Khusda of Farkhar district. There were an unknown number of casualties in the brief encounter. The Chaman Khusda area was the main operating base for Ahmad Shah Massoud’s forces in the 1990s.
Kandahar: CORRECTION: Yesterday we reported an attack in Kandahar that killed 3 Talibs. We incorrectly attributed the action to the National Liberation Front (NLF). It seems the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan planned and executed the operation.

NEXT 24 HOURS
A common tactic we have seen from the Resistance forces this year is a hit-and-run attack on a fixed objective, which is then followed by a larger attack. It is likely that the Resistance employs this method in order to:

  • Probe the Taliban’s defenses

  • Gauge how long any potential relief forces take to arrive and where they come from

  • Identify potential ambush points along the road networks that reinforcements use

These tactics have been used successfully in Badakhshan, Balkh, Panjshir, Baghlan, and Takhar. With this in mind, we may witness a larger attack on the Chaman Khusda base in Takhar province soon.

US military's role in ongoing gains against Al-Shabaab in Somalia
[Garowe] The US military has been critical in the recent gains against al-Shabaab

hard boyz in southern and central Somalia, the federal government of Somalia has confirmed, further confirming President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. The guy who lost Afghanistan, aka Biden's Bungle...
's commitment to helping the country fight violent mostly peaceful extremism.

In a statement, Somalia's Ministry of Information and Culture confirmed the involvement of the US Africa Command in the operation against al-Shabaab within the Hiiraan region which has significantly yielded fruits based on the numbers of hard boyz who have been killed.

Over 100 al-Shabaab hard boyz have been killed, the statement noted, with Yasoman and Aborey villages being the battlegrounds in the last 22 hours according to the government. Those killed were mainly the group's infantry team which commands huge swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.

"The Somali National Army [SNA] has conducted operations at Yasoman and Aborey villages in the Hiiraan region in the last 72 hours. The SNA soldiers have killed more than 100 al-Shabaab who were terrorizing local people," the statement noted.

Although the US influence is rarely cited, the ministry noted that the Command was providing aerial surveillance throughout the exercise through the sophisticated drones which America has been using against your hard boys, who are fighting the federal government since 2006.

"Air support by the US Africa Command has assisted this operation," the ministry stated. "The federal government of Somalia appreciates the support by that US in the fight against terrorism and violent mostly peaceful extremism, " added the statement which comes amid heightened al-Shabaab activities.

The Somalia government has pledged a full-blown war against al-Shabaab with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently affirming financial movement strategy and the infantry battles in the bid to completely eliminate the holy warriors who are disrupting activities in the country.

The government has accused al-Shabaab of targeting water wells, communication masts, and food trucks among other essential things as a strategy to suffocate an already struggling human population in the country. Already, most locals have taken arms against the hard boys.

Supreme Council of German Muslims drops membership of Brotherhood-linked entities
Well done, Germany! Perhaps the next American president will do the same.
[AlAhram] The Supreme Council of German Moslems has denied all entities linked to the Moslem Brüderbund membership of the council, including the Islamic Centre in Munich and the Student Union affiliated to the Brotherhood.

The council also stripped Ibrahim El-Zayat, one of the Brotherhood leaders based in Germany, of all his positions, according to sources.

El-Zayat, who is of Egyptian origin, held several positions in Germany, including the presidency of the Islamic Society in Germany in 2001, according to media reports.

The Council of German Moslems held its elections on Sunday amid major challenges facing Moslems in Germany. Foremost of these is taking advantage of their legitimate platforms that represent them by the Brotherhood group.

Egypt designated the Brotherhood a terrorist organization in 2013, months after the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi following mass protests. Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
and the UAE followed suit in 2020.

Almost all leading Moslem Brüderbund figures in Egypt have been arrested and face trial following Morsi's ouster.

Al-Khazali calls for an investigation into the killing of an Iraqi child by US troops in Baghdad
[SHAFAQ] The leader of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement, Qais al-Khazali, on Tuesday called for an immediate investigation into the killing of a 15 years old Iraqi girl by US troops near Baghdad's international airport.

A statement by the Shiite clergyman demanded "the security and intelligence bodies to present a detailed report that explains to the Iraqis the consequences of this cowardly deed, how does a US military base exist on Iraq's soil against the provisions of its constitution in a flagrant violation of its illusory sovereignty, how do they use live bullets, under the pretext of training, inside the neighborhoods?"

Earlier today, media outlets close to the Iran-backed movement reported the death of Zeinab Isam Majed al-Khazali, 15, due to a "random shooting" by US troops in a training field near the Baghdad Airport.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian killed in protests after PA security forces nab Hamas members in Nablus
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrations against PA break out following operation, which terror group claims was carried out at Israel’s behest; arrested men suspected of involvement in shooting attacks

A Paleostinian bystander was killed early Tuesday when protestors clashed with Paleostinian security services over the arrest of two members of the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, terror group, allegedly at Israel’s request, in the West Bank city of Nablus.

The man was named as 53-year-old Firas Yaish. According to Paleostinian reports he was a bystander and was shot in the head.

A statement from the PA security forces confirmed the death of Yaish and said they were "waiting for a medical report," on the circumstances of his killing.

He was killed "in a place where no security personnel were present," forces front man Talal Dweikat claimed in a statement.

Paleostinian reports said PA security forces opened fire toward protesters demonstrating against the arrest operation.

Some of the protesters had reportedly set fire to tires and had gun sex.

Unrest persisted through the morning, with hundreds of youths hurling rocks at PA armored vehicles and the sound of gunfire ringing out across the Nablus city center.

The two men detained by Paleostinian security services were named as Musab Shtayyeh and Ameed Tbaileh — members of Hamas wanted by Israel.

The two were said to have been top targets in the wake of the killing of al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades commander Ibrahim Nabulsi by Israeli troops during an operation last month.

A photo circulating on social media showed Shtayyeh and Nabulsi smiling together.

Shtayyeh was part of an armed squad called the Nablus Battalion or Nablus Lions, the Haaretz daily reported.

The report said he was suspected of involvement in recent shooting attacks against Israeli forces and Jewish worshipers at Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus.

In the wake of the arrests, terror groups warned the Paleostinian Authority of the consequences of the operation, and demanded the immediate release of the men.

Hamas issued a statement warning the PA security services against carrying out actions on behalf of Israel.

"This is a new stain on the [Paleostinian] Authority and the black record of its security coordination," the terror group said in a statement.

"The authority has positioned itself as an exclusive agent of the occupation (Israel) in the face of our Paleostinian people," the statement said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity given the unpopularity of such operations among Paleostinians, a PA official told The Times of Israel that the chances Ramallah’s security forces will be able to continue carrying them out without the advancement of a diplomatic initiative to end the conflict with Israel "get smaller by the day."

The operation was carried out as PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....

...an idea whose time has gone...
General Assembly.

Israeli security officials have warned in recent months that the PA is losing control of the northern West Bank, including Nablus.

Earlier this month, military chief Aviv Kohavi slammed the PA for its inability to govern areas in the northern West Bank, where troops have repeatedly come under gunfire during nightly raids, amid a months-long operation aimed at preventing Paleostinian bandidos holy warriors from committing attacks.

The Israel Defense Forces launched the operation, dubbed Breakwater, after a series of deadly terror attacks that killed 19 people between mid-March and the beginning of May.

Shots fired at military post, troops along northern West Bank barrier; no injuries
[IsraelTimes] Manhunt launched for button men in two separate shooting incidents, one near checkpoint shuttered after last week’s deadly shooting near Paleostinian village of Jalamah

Shots were fired Tuesday morning at a military position along the security barrier in the northern West Bank, the Border Police said.

According to police, a number of bullet impact points were spotted on a dirt road inside the Salem base, close to the Arab Israeli town of the same name along the security barrier.

Police said officers and Israel Defense Forces troops launched a manhunt for the alleged Paleostinian button men.

Then, on Tuesday afternoon, the IDF said shots were fired at troops operating along the northern West Bank security barrier, near the town of Faqqua.

No officers or soldiers were hurt in either incident.

In Israeli raids across the West Bank early Tuesday, troops detained eight wanted Paleostinians, the IDF said.

Palestinian gets 9-year sentence for years of terror activity in several Gazan groups
[IsraelTimes] The Beersheba District Court sentences a Paleostinian man to nine years in prison after convicting him of harming national security by being a member of multiple Gazook terror groups for several years.

The court says Salem Abu Daher served in several roles over the years in the groups, from minor roles to being an instructor and even initiating and carrying out terror attacks.

The ruling says Abu Daher’s activity "escalated" after he joined Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

Police say ‘terror’ behind murder of 84-year-old woman in Holon, suspect at large
[IsraelTimes] Cops release photo of Paleostinian Mousa Sarsour, ask for public’s help in locating him; Lapid: ’Despicable terrorist attacked an elderly woman who couldn’t fight back’

An 84-year-old woman was killed on a street in the Tel Aviv suburb of Holon Tuesday evening, in what police described as "a terror attack," as they sought the public’s help in finding the suspected killer.

The suspect was identified by authorities as Mousa Sarsour, a 28-year-old Paleostinian from Qalqilya. Police issued a photo of Sarsour and asked for the public’s help in locating him.

"It was a suspect whose identity is known to us," police chief Kobi Shabtai told news hounds. "We are currently searching close by and further away to locate him."

Anyone with knowledge of Sarsour’s whereabouts was asked to dial 100 and provide the information to police.

The woman was attacked with a blunt object to the head in the central city’s HaHashmonaim Street in broad daylight sometime before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene after a neighbor heard the woman’s screams, arriving to find her seriously maimed after being attacked.

In the following hours, officials said the Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, was involved in the investigation amid growing suspicions that the woman was attacked for nationalistic reasons.

Reports said CCTV footage showed a man wearing dark clothes trailing the elderly woman as she walked toward her house, before attacking her from behind, striking multiple blows using a "heavy object" before fleeing the scene. Nothing was stolen from the woman.

The victim’s son-in-law told Channel 13: "We have no idea what happened, we are in shock. She was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Authorities questioned a Paleostinian worker as he left a construction site near the scene of the attack, Channel 12 news reported. It is unclear if the worker was connected to the incident.

The killing came less than two weeks after police said they thwarted a terror attack planned by a Paleostinian man found in Jaffa carrying a gun and improvised explosives, with tensions running high in recent months.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid, in New York for the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly, was updated on the attack and the search for the suspect.

"This is a shocking attack by a despicable and cowardly terrorist who murdered an elderly woman who could not fight back," he said through a spokesperson.

US court awards millions to 'victims of Hezbollah rockets'
[An Nahar] A U.S. court has ordered Hezbollah to pay millions of dollars in damages to a group of Americans who sued saying they were maimed by the group's rockets during the 2006 war with Israel.

The case was brought under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act and alleged that Hezbollah caused the plaintiffs physical and emotional injury and damaged their property. The judge ordered Hezbollah to pay damages of $111 million to the plaintiffs.

Such civil lawsuits brought against bully boy groups are difficult to enforce but Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, one of the lawyers representing the plaintiffs, said it was an important legal victory against the Iran-backed Lebanese group.

"Only by exacting a heavy price from those who engage in the business of terrorism can we prevent the suffering and loss of additional victims to their violence," Darshan-Leitner said in a statement.

, killing around 1,200 civilians, while Hezbollah launched thousands of rockets at cities and towns in Israel's north. Israel still considers the heavily gang a major threat.

In Friday's ruling, Judge Steven L. Tiscione of federal court in Brooklyn, New York, said the plaintiffs had successfully established that Hezbollah's actions were a violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act and held the group liable.

Cyprus helps rescue 477 migrants from 2 boats that came from Lebanon
[An Nahar] Cyprus has assisted in rescue of a small wooden boat crammed with more than 300 migrants colonists that was floating adrift 203 kilometers west of the island nation, a Cypriot official said Tuesday.

Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Commander Andreas Charalambides told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the captain of the 18-meter (60 foot) boat sent out a distress call Monday afternoon after experiencing engine trouble.

A helicopter and three naval and police patrol vessels were scrambled to offer assistance to the boat that Charalambides said had departed from Leb

three days ago and was trying to reach Italia with many women and kiddies aboard.

Authorities couldn't immediately determine the nationality of the migrants colonists aboard the boat but there was no indication that any had experienced any health issues, Charalambides said. All the migrants colonists were safely transferred aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged fat merchantman Paolo Topic which was in the vicinity.

Charalambides said authorities had asked the captain of the 250-meter (820-foot) Paolo Topic to set sail for the Cypriot port of Limassol so that the migrants colonists could disembark. But he said the captain opted, under the directions of the company that owns the ship, to head to his original destination of Istanbul.

In a separate rescue mission Tuesday, JRCC front man Andreas Zachariou said two patrol boats intercepted a boat with 177 migrants colonists aboard about 56 kilometers off the southern coastal town of Larnaca. The boat, which included 67 women and kiddies, had departed from Lebanon.

Zachariou said all the migrants colonists are in good health and are in the process of being transferred to a migrants colonists' reception facility on the island.

Once a country that received refugees, Lebanon has become a launching pad for dangerous migration by sea to Europe. As the country's economic crisis deepened, more Lebanese, as well as Syrian and Paleostinian refugees have set off to sea, with security agencies reporting foiled migration attempts almost weekly.
